Itinerary
We meet up by the artwork of the two stone pillars that are supposed to signify how Reykjavik was discovered and settled by the first Viking.
Our next stop is the oldest graveyard in Reykjavik which is in front of the Settlement Museum. There we learn how to summon a Zombie or ghost to do your bidding
Our 3d stop is a secret Elf-stone or Elf home close to the Settlement museum. There we visit the Elves of Iceland and some of their stories
Next stop is the Cathedral of Catholicism in Reykjavik where we talk a little about religion in Iceland and the influence of that on our mythical beings. The Trolls of Iceland did not like the church very much.
This Cemetary is beautiful and haunting so a perfect setting for tales of ghosts and the undead.
The pond or lake of Reykjavik is beautiful to visit. There is the possibility of aquatic monsters or other mythical beings visiting.
We pass by the Reykjavik City Hall on our way back and sometimes we peek inside if there is something interesting going on.
Our Final stop is in front of the Parliament building of Iceland and there we discuss the Guardian Spirits of Iceland and maybe we teach you some Icelandic Magic

Arno was awesome!! Learned much, saw fantastic sites, and had a great time. We highly recommend him!
Stefan was wonderful. He was very kind, knowledgeable, funny and patient. My daughter and I had a delightful time hearing folklore stories and learning about the culture of Norway. 100% recommend!
We thoroughly enjoyed our private walking tour with Stefan Ivarsson - he brought the folkloric tales alive and even sang some (very dark) traditional Icelandic lullabies. A great way to see the less obvious sights of Reykjavik.
We had a great time learning about the folklore stories of Iceland. It was a good mix of ghost stories, elves, trolls, and other folklore beings. Robin was a great guide!
Magical and macabre stories from Iceland. Really enjoyable tour where we heard about elves and trolls, Yule Lads and their bloodthirsty mum, Grýla along with the founding of Reykjavik by the Vikings. Mathias was our guide- very personable and knowledgeable. Can't recommend this enough- a great way to spend a couple of hours in this great city.
Fun to hear the local tales - good way to get history and stories from the country. Enjoy the mini sagas.
This is a very good tour of Reykjavik spiced up with dark tales of elves, trolls and hidden Icelanders. You even get taught how to set up a spell.
Stefan I. was our guide and was very knowledgeable about Icelandic lore. We were glad that he sang us an Icelandic lullaby, as we later saw a piano duo play it with new context.
It was really cold, windy and raining and i am the only one who showed up ! came and the guide ! He was really nice and I could ask all the questions i needed as a child would ask ! About the islandic culture, people, about Elves and Troll, about fishing and the fishermen etc etc.....thank you for this great sharing.... !
We really enjoyed our walking tour. It was so interesting. The tour guide was early which was fantastic. He was enthusiastic and we highly recommend this booking
It was a cold and windy day when our guide, Bardi, led us around Reykjavik and told us some Icelandic folklore. I especially liked the sorcerers spells and visiting the graveyard. Sometimes we rested in a less windy spot and then moved to a more windy spot for another story, but there wasn't anything new to see there. I think on a chilly day like that, it would be best to take advantage of the more sheltered areas. All and all a lovely time and I would recommend it.
This was a fun tour! The guide was very entertaining and his stories were interesting. I totally believe in Elves now. The tour included a walk thru a cemetery and some of the "regular" residential areas of Reykjavik. We were 3 adults, this is not a kids tour.
Great tour and tour guide! Pace was slow enough that our older group felt comfortable. The stories and history provided were wonderful. I would highly recommend this tour.
This was a wonderful walking tour. We met at a central location in town. The walk itself was paced well for our slower going group. Our guide was well versed in Icelandic mythology and folk tales. He was a great story teller; acting out parts of the story and keeping us in stitches. Highly recommended.
We had so much fun, and learned so much about the history and folklore of Reykjavic and Iceland. Our guide was knowledgeable and she kept us entertained during our snowy walk. My husband and I highly recommend taking one of their city tours! Be sure to where comfortable footwear and warm clothing!
We had a brilliant tour around the town, being told some fantastic, eerie ghost, troll and elf stories, snippers if history and local insight. Haider was lovely, and made us feel great about everything, seeming to go out of his way to make sure we enjoyed the tour, and got what we wanted. Thank you.
Einar was a very entertaining and informative guide. If you're interested in a 'tour with a difference', then I recommend this tour to learn about the elves (hidden people), ghosts and trolls of Iceland.
We had a great trip and our guide was a wonderful storyteller. My favorite story was about the elves who negotiated a move to make way for a highway project. Their rock home now has a prime spot in the center of Reykjavik!
Stefan was marvelous! Aside from the expected (but nonetheless entertaining) traditional tales and beliefs, he inserted fascinating facts ranging linguistics in Nordic languages to Icelandic history and naming practices to his own perspective on being Icelandic. After spending just short of two hours with him, we felt we knew not just traditional but contemporary Iceland, its challenges, and its unique opportunities. A totally worthwhile experience.
Stefan was our guide, and he brought the folklore alive with his dialogue. He also has the most beautiful voice, he sang us a lullaby. It was a most enjoyable walking tour.
Loved our experience with Your Friends in Reykjavik! My family and I celebrated Xmas in Iceland this years and worked with Your Friends in Reykjavik to setup several different tours. We had a private folklore and food tour, a private golden circle + snorkeling tour, northern lights tour, and a semi-private Katla Ice cave tour. Everything was excellent and I can't say enough good things about this group. From the communication and setup before the trip, to the last minute changes we had with travel delays, to the kindness of the tour guides we spent time with and shared local foods with over the holiday season. We had so much fun taking pictures with them and loved the photo album we received from Your Friends in Reykjavik at the end of each tour. We appreciated the semi-private and private tour options and the fact that many of their group tours were smaller sized. It was a great way to explore the city and experience the culture and we would highly recommend this group to anyone looking for an authentic and intimate experience in Iceland.
We had an incredible and very interesting time during our Folkore walking tour. The tour guide knew very much about the history of the city and told us all about the beginning of the city/country.
Booked this tour as a last minute addition to our trip. Our guide was Styrmir. It was something a little bit different and took us to parts of the city we would not have seen otherwise. Learnt some interesting facts & folklore including why you cannot now plant a tree on a grave!
We had the best tour guide! He was such an enthusiastic story teller and I can’t recommend him enough!
We had a great tour with Ester. She told us a lot about the vikings, elves and trolls. Her own ghost story was amazing. We enjoyed it and had a lot of fun. Ester is a really great guide and with six people it was a perfect size for the group. We can absolutely recommend this tour😊👍🏻
Loved the Icelandic Folklore walking tour. Interesting & fun. Did the Blue Lagoon and the geysers/waterfall tour which was spectacular. People in Iceland are very nice & many speak English. Absolutely enjoyed the other-worldly scenery & the people. Reykjavik Excursions made my trip a great vacation.
This was a fun way to learn a little about Iceland, see some of the city, and meet a local. Our guide Stefan was hilarious. Each of us in our group of three loved him. He was knowledgable, fun, and kept our small group engaged and entertained. There was never a dull moment. Highly recommend.
We enjoyed an interesting walking tour learning a bit of history, but more importantly, gain lots of knowledge about elves, trolls, hidden people and the Norse gods. Our guide, Bardi was great fun and a wonderful storyteller. Keeping everyone from grandma and grandpa to two teenagers engaged is a job and Bardi was superb. Our lunch of traditional lamb soup and a sampler of Beer for the adults was the perfect end to a lovely morning.
This tour is both fun and informative. Fantastic stories about elves, trolls, and ghosts. You'll even learn icelandic magic: How to wake a zombie or how to get filthy rich. Along the way, you'll also hear about the rich history of Iceland and the city of Reykjavik. The guide Bardi does a great job being very knowledgeable and entertaining at the same time. Truly "your friend in Reykjavik".
We enjoyed the numerous folk tales that Snaedis shared. She was knowledgeable, engaging, and kept the experience interactive. She even took extra measures by sending us local info on restaurants, etc. , after the walk. Well done!
Amazing tour by snaedis !! So fun and informative ! She was awesome! If you book this tour, make sure to ask for her ! Loved this tour and the guide would definitely reccommnd !!
We had a wonderful time on the walk. We got to see a lot of the city, and the guide (Bardi) was fantastic. It was interesting to hear about the Elves and Hidden People, and seeing the cemetery alone was worth the price of the tour. Our daughter has been reading Norse Mythology so she had a particularly good time. One bit of advice: dress warmly!
We arrived in Iceland from the US at 6:30 in the morning and with the time change we didn't want to end up sleeping the day away so we made sure to book some things for the day we arrived but didn't want anything too strenuous. After a little nap we got ready for our tour! We booked through Viator and there was a weird mix up with the time, we thought it was later than it actually was. Thankfully, our guide, Snaedis called to check on us and we were able to meet up with her and start our tour without any trouble. The tour was wonderful!! The stories we were given were charming, fun, and informative! The walk through the city was lovely! It was a great way to get a lay of the land on our first day, it was exactly what we needed! We really enjoyed ourselves and highly recommend the tour. We got good recommendations from Snaedis on places to eat and things to do during our visit as well!
We went on our first day in Iceland and it really was very enjoyable. The young tour guide told wonderful stories and pointed out interesting sites. This allows you to see the different side of the city and places you wouldn’t normally go to. Great tour in a great place. Plus who doesn’t love a fairy rock.
How to start! Bardi was an amazing guide he was knowledgeable and even told us how to raise a zombie ! His enthusiasm was infectious!. We learnt a lot about trolls ,zombies and elves I would definitely recommend this tour if your after something a little diffrent.
Our evening was entertaining, we learnt new things and got great views of Reykjavik we wouldn't have seen before!
This was a great way to see some of the city and learn about Icelanders. We had a great time and loved the tales of old
I thoroughly enjoyed my walking tour learning about trolls, elves, and other tidbits. I'm ready to jump in to being an elf whisperer as soon as they'll take me. Seriously, Snaedis was awesome! I really couldn't help some remarks, they slipped out, and she just rolled with myself and others who did the same. She explained everything well, easy enough to hear even with noise around us, and was sweet to offer other insights in to local stops. The tour wasn't exactly what I imagined, but worth the time and money.
The tour was excellent! Our guide was great, and he shared so many fun, interesting stories with us. And, as we walked, we got to see many beautiful parts of the city that we hadn't seen before. Overall, our trip to Iceland was fabulous, and this tour was definitely a highlight! We are still talking about what we learned, and sharing the stories with our friends and family back home. We would definitely recommend this tour!
We had an excellent time and learned a lot. Five star rating. Learned about myths and ghost stories that made us want to research more.
