A must experience for anyone visiting Iceland. Probably one of the best excursions I did. It will not disappoint.

Perlan is well worth a visit if you are in Reykjavík. It is quite a walk out of the city but you can take the local number 18 bus which takes stops a short 2-3 minute walk away uphill. It's an amazing museum, more of an experience really. There are some fantastic exhibitions where you learn about the history of Iceland, the culture, environmental impacts, volcanic activity and there is a fabulous experience of the aurora too. It is an incredible place.
We enjoyed this museum so much...so much to do! The 3 shows are wroth the price of admission! Viator was the best price around too! Do not miss this place! Highly recommended!!
We purchased tickets directly from Perlan.is website about 7 months prior to visiting Iceland. The building and the various floors are an experience in themselves. It is not as large as some of the major natural science museums in the United States, but what Perlan has established are phenomenal. The volcano experience is CGI immersive experience, like what you may experience at a Disney theme park, but I believe was higher quality. The ice cave is more physical, like walking into a large industrial freezer. The aurora show in the planetarium was spot on, and I enjoyed the pre-show showing the various natural sites throughout Iceland. The restaurant on the 5th floor rotates, like the Seattle Space Needle. So make it a point to spend at least half a day experiencing Perlan.
I loved this museum with a combination of self learning and virtual experiences. It was crowded, but the guides organized the groups well to keep them moving. Some of the guides were very soft spoken as they explained the information and I had trouble hearing. The theatre experiences and ice cave were awesome.
An amazing place to spend a day. All the shows are included in the entry price. The lava experience is just out of this world and ice cave is stunning. The viewing deck has amazing views. They even have an indoor geyser. Fun and informative.
Petur was an awesome guide very informative and friendly- always had answers to our questions and made sure we had a good time! I’d say for the hike you need to have a fair fitness level because climbing up the elevation and super uneven paths/ lava fields we walked on.
What a great museum! The volcano, Ice Cave and Northern Lights experience were well worth it. You need about 3 hours to get the most out of the visit. I would say it's a must do while in Reykjavik.
Fantastic experience. Staff are unbelievably knowledgeable as well as kind and incredibly helpful around the attraction. Highly recommended
This is an exceptional museum that truly shares the Iceland fire and ice. I was never rushed and loved the movies, music and displays.
Very nice exhibit. Each one is a unique experience. We loved it
We ended up with one more afternoon on a messy day- Happened upon the Perlan Museum, purchased discounted tickets from TripAdvisor and had one of the best afternoons of my LIFE! This may be my favorite museum ever.
Wonderful experience. The Volcano and Ice Cave Experience was fabulous. The Aurora planetarium presentation is mesmerizing. Staff very knowledgeable and helpful.
Very impressive films, ice cave experience, explanations about Iceland 's nature. A must seen!
Such a brilliant and informative place taking you through the natural wonders and history of Iceland. Real value for money and besides the timed exhibitions you can spend as long as you want wandering round reading up on the geological history and about what climate change is doing to the glaciers around the world. We topped it off with coffee and cake up in the revolving restaurant in the glass dome at the top, just a shame the weather was horrendous and we couldn't appreciate the scenic views I'm sure it offers on a clear day. All in all a really good day out for people of any age.
Interactive and informative volcanic, ice cave, & northern lights exhibits. Fantastic puffer wall! Allow at least 2 hours. Fun for adults & children. Can appreciate a 360° view of Reykjavík from the top level. Great way to end my vacation, but also could be a nice introduction to your holiday.
We had a wonderful time, a lot to see and to experience, definitely worth your time and money ! Visit highly recommended !
The experience was magnificent! We went there for the second time and we just loved it. Some movies are improved or even added. And some exhibitions were extended. We highly recommend it! It wasn't crowded, the staff was very helpful.
Perhaps the best nature museum we've ever experienced. The staff were all extremely helpful and friendly. The exhibits were well done and informative. The use of interactive technologies was a very clever was to make the overall experience immersive. The Northern Lights show was impressive as was the ice cave. Perhaps the very best activity was the volcano show - so realistic! We spent nearly three hours there and could have stayed longer if not for another commitment. Highly recommended!
Save your money and do something else. We bought the all inclusive tickets at the museum for $60 per person which entitled us to all exhibits. The ice cave was like stepping into a freezer and walking along a 100 foot path to the other end. Boring. The volcano experience was cool.but so far fetched. There were two experiences. The first experience was similar to flying over the volcano with pictures of before and after the eruption. The second experience was sitting in an overly hot room and going down into the volcano. Sure, the special effects were good but, seriously, who would know what it's really like to be inside a volcano?!?! The northern lights experience was sitting in an auditorium for about 20 minutes listening to a female voice, supposed to be Aurora, talking about myths of the northern lights. During that time, we saw the lights for like 2 minutes. I looked over at my husband and he had fallen asleep. Need I say more? The best thing we enjoyed was going to the observation platform at the top of the museum. For those who don't know, the museum sits on several old water tanks and is shaped like a glass dome. The platform offered a 360 degree view of the area which was really beautiful. Getting there via taxi wasn't cheap. There are no Ubers in Iceland. We spent about 2 hours at the museum which was enough with the crowds. We didn't find the museum worth the money.
The excellent Perlan Museum is an immersive experience in Icelandic nature. The land of ice and fire is on full display. The Perlan is located high on a forested hill, with the observation deck allowing an amazing 360° view of Reykjavik and the surrounding area. The exhibits all showcase the history and 'Wonders of Iceland'. But for me, beyond the exhibits, the Perlan took me on a journey deep into the volcanic and tectonic forces that formed, and is still beneath, the Island of Iceland. The journey continued in to chilly Ice Cave, and then to a fabulous display of the Northern Lights. We were totally captivated by the amazing Perlan Museum experience and it was definitely worth the price of admission!!
Perlan is fun and informative. You will need to spend 2-3 hours here to enjoy and experience all that Perlan has to offer. Booking through their website is easy and I think it’s cheaper than booking through a third party… We enjoyed the ice caves, volcano and the Northern Lights show! Be sure to bring warm clothings to see the ice caves!
We enjoyed the Perlan museum very much. The Volcano and Ice Cave experiences were awesome. I had a walker with me and the staff were very helpful so I wouldn’t miss anything. We had a delicious dinner on the top floor and the pastries were great too! HIghly recommend!
Such an amazing museum! The ice cave was so much fun and the volcano section was incredible. The staff were amazing and incredibly helpful and friendly. It's open quite late, so it was a great way to spend an evening.
Great Museum. We had a lovely lunch in the restaurant with a view of the city. Really enjoyed the observation deck. Exhibits were excellent, especially the videos of the volcano and the aurora. We walked in a man-made ice cave. There’s even a geyser in the middle of the building. The Perlan gave us a great introduction to Iceland’s natural environment. It was the perfect way to start a fabulous trip to Iceland. Suitable for all ages.
This was a really good museum to visit and very interactive. Enjoy the lava show the northern light show and the ice cave. Is a great place to spend a couple hours and learn more about Iceland.
Excellent museum with three different special exhibits northern lights, lava The museum itself is very comfortable and easy to navigate as a wonderful restaurant that revolves around the city on the top, outstanding views, one of our favorite places in the museum category in Iceland
We needed to fill in time before our flight home and so pleased we came. Had a great time, wished stayed longer.
Great tour. Many interactive things to do and several hours can easily be spent in this venue. I definitely recommend.
Cool experience. The volcano was extremely cool and the ice cave was a lot of fun. I also enjoyed the northern light experience.
Parts of Perlan are typically for a museum and the views from the museum are impressive. The volcano show is impressive and well done, the ice cave I could have done without. Their displays are great and interactive. It is definitely worth doing and it will take a couple of hours. I would do it on a rainy day or if tours are canceled.
A must do experience while on Iceland. The Lava immersion experience was the best.
Wow. We had no idea what this place was all about until arrived. We were told we should visit Perlan but were given no idea what was offered here. We did the Volcano and Ice Cave Experience and were amazed how well done it was. The Volcano show is incredibly well done and worth the price of admission itself. The Ice Cave was fun, a little cramped but well done. The glacier exhibition was really informative and well done. After the shows we went up to the 360 observation deck and enjoyed a refreshment and a dessert.
Such an amazing immersive experience, that is high above from normal museum tours Views are spectacular.
The volcano show was great, as was the ice cave, though if you're tall like me, it can get a little tight with the head room in spots. You can see all of Reykjavik from the observation deck, The northen lights show in the observatory was both beautiful and educational, just like you'd expect from a quality museum..
Great science museum with an actual ice cave so dress warmly. Many of the exhibits are interactive. This is an excellent resource to understand the special geological and environmental characteristics of Iceland. AS someone that taught science, I was really impressed at the way the material and experiences are presented. The museum is very well designed and you can easily spend 2.5 hours or more exploring. They have a nice shop and restaurant on the top level.
Amazing! we learned so much about Iceland and was really impressed with the shows! The volcano show felt like ride at universal studio … was also well organized. We weren’t able to catch a great view of the northern lights but at least we got to see in the northern lights experience at the museum !
The Perlan Museum was exceptional. The exhibits they had were very real like. The indoor ice cave was of course cold. Seeing how volcanoes actually develop from the seabed to the top of the hill and how the lava flows was spectacular. It felt like a Disney ride The staff was very competent, knowledgeable and helpful. It was a nice visit
Our flight was delayed unable to assist, request by email 4 times if was possible received admission for different day, didn't received any answer
This is a really neat place to get a good historical lesson of Iceland. I actually would recommend this before heading out to see the rest of the country. It would give you a great overview of what you are about to see. We did the full country in 15 days and it was also neat to see the sites we had just experienced again at the end of our trip.
The ice cave was great. Both videos about the eruptions were informative as well as a phenomenonal 4D experience .
This was one of the best experiences I have had in Iceland
This museum is fantastic! Staff were friendly. I still don’t understand how it was done, but the volcano experience was amazing! The ice caves were fabulous and we enjoyed the Aurora experience as well. There were many exhibitions to see but unfortunately I had prebooked an afternoon tour elsewhere so had to cut short our visit to 2 hours. There is a cafe upstairs with a view overlooking Reykjavik, but sadly did not get up there. Suitable for all ages!
Perlan is a wonderful museum with a number of well curated and interactive exhibits. We watched the Aurora show as well as experienced the Volcano immersive exhibit and toured the ice cave. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We appreciate that there is significant information about how climate change is impacting the natural environment of Iceland. The lunch at the restaurant was also delicious—excellent soup!
Excellent experience and absolutely loved the volcano and ice cave - what amazing exhibitions. The museum was very well set out and very informative. Would highly recommend everybody to go
Wonderful museum. The volcano is experience and the ice caves were fantastic. The northern lights show was unreal. Marvelous! Jack was a great host and helped us personally to find the best time and place to see real northern lights.
Loved my time in Perlan watching volcano show and northern light show. It was a rainy day forecast so I decided to stay indoors and this was perfect exploring indoors. Had lunch in the doome enjoying the city view and not getting wet.
Perlan is like an inmersive concept that takes you to some experiences of Iceland. The best of all is the volcano experience where you can see magma, converting into lava and then erupts, all from inside a volcano! Of course is like a 4D inmersive experience, but you feel that you are inside the volcano and it's worth it. Then you have an ice tunnel, auroras, and other interesting things about Iceland. When finish, you can go to a terrific terrace that have an incredible view of Reykjavik. Also there is a restaurant. I recommend it if you have time.
What an eye-popping way to kill an hour or two on an otherwise dull, grey, rainy day. The views from the observation deck are stunning. The Volcano video was mind boggling. The Ice Cave was super cool -- both literally and figuratively. And the exhibits were both interesting and informative. Who knew that the indoor spectacles at Perlan could be just as interesting, entertaining and otherworldly as Iceland's great outdoors! By all means, check it out!
This is a fantastic museum! We spent many hours here. The volcano show was incredible. You actually felt like you were inside the volcano. The ice cave was fun and the planetarium show very beautiful and informative. There were many displays about nature and water and the beginnings of Iceland. The observation deck wraps around the whole museum and the restaurant/coffee shop revolves. It’s a wonderful way to spend a day in Iceland.
