An unforgettable night chasing the Northern Lights with Emerald Skies! From the moment we set out, our guide Christian made the entire experience seamless and captivating. Before we even reached our viewing spot, he walked us through a fascinating briefing on Icelandic weather dynamics, the science behind the aurora, and his data-driven method for tracking clear skies. It was immediately clear how deeply knowledgeable and passionate he is about what he does—trading a long corporate banking career to follow his calling in Iceland and master the art of aurora hunting. That scientific approach paid off brilliantly. Christian navigated us right to the perfect vantage point, and the celestial display that followed was nothing short of magic. Standing beneath vibrant ribbons of green dancing across the Icelandic night sky truly felt like a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle. It was freezing cold outside, but Christian kept everyone warm and in great spirits with delicious hot chocolate, cookies, and genuine enthusiasm. To top it all off, he captured fantastic photos and videos of the event so we could simply stand back, take in the wonder, and live in the moment. If you are looking for an expertly guided, deeply memorable aurora adventure, go with Christian and Emerald Skies. A night we will cherish forever!

We had an amazing time. Christian , our guide, is absolutely wonderful. He made the tour so enjoyable. It took a while for the Aurora to come out but Christian encouraged the group to wait and he did not disappoint. The Aurora was magnificent. We saw it dancing in the sky. Thank you Christian. We highly recommend this tour and the company.
This trip was a truly amazing experience of the Northern Lights. Our guide was friendly, enthusiastic, very well informed and a great communicator. He created the Emeraldskies.ie aurora activity tracking site (embarrassingly his name has escaped me - so sorry!) and his expertise combined with favourable weather conditions resulted in us seeing the most incredible aurora display with our bare eyes. With his in-depth knowledge, our guide was able to keep the group informed about what stage the aurora build-up was at and what the progressive indicators to look out for were. He kept people engaged and interested despite the very cold conditions. The hot chocolate and blankets were a lifesaver. You definitely need to dress warm for this trip but my goodness, the wait was worth it. The David the Guide team really know their stuff. I totally recommend this trip. Very efficient, well organised and fun. This was our first visit to Iceland and we hope to be back for more exploring with this local tourguide company. Thanks a million guys.
We had an absolutely amazing experience on our tour! We lucked out with perfect conditions and saw some amazing lights. Our tour guide Anna-Maria was so amazing and made the trip even better! She was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and she took amazing pictures of us with the aurora. If you're looking for a way to see the northern lights during your trip to Iceland, this tour is a great choice!
We had the most extraordinary experience with David the Guide, and especially with our guide Christian. Seeing the Northern Lights was already a dream for us, but Christian made the entire evening something truly unforgettable. His knowledge about the science behind the aurora, why it happens, how solar activity affects it, and what conditions allow it to appear, was fascinating. It wasn’t just a tour where you drive somewhere and wait. He helped us really understand what we were witnessing, which made it all the more magical and meaningful. Christian is also a professional photographer, and that added such a special dimension to the experience. He took beautiful photos of us with the Northern Lights dancing behind us, images we will treasure forever. Being able to simply enjoy the moment while knowing it was being captured so expertly made all the difference. On top of that, we were treated to delicious hot chocolate and cookies under the Arctic sky. Standing there together, warm drinks in hand, watching the lights move above us, felt incredibly intimate and special. We left not only amazed by the beauty of the Northern Lights, but genuinely touched by the care, knowledge, and warmth Christian brought to the evening. It was more than a tour. It was a memory we will carry with us for a very long time.
Our tour guide was amazing! She was so friendly and knowledgeable. We were so lucky to see the lights on our first day in Iceland. And boy did the lights put on a show! They were dancing that night. Our guide was sure we didn’t miss anything. Amazing night! Our tour guide was so excited for us. My husband is disabled and she ensured we got a photo of us with the lights which is more important than anyone realizes. This is his bucket list item. So thank you for making a dream come true.
We had such a good experience and lovely memory. We were in a small group and while driving, Christian, our guide, explained us different facts about auroras and how to hunt them; what we learnt allowed us on other days to find our way to get great pictures of the auroras. We were very lucky on our first aurora and the location was beautiful, we got some personal pics taken and offered hot chocolate with cookies to enjoy the few hours we were hunting them. I would repeat again with David the guide and specially with Christian.
The company sent an email a couple of hours before the tour was to start and cancelled it. Not a call or text. They sent an email. We rescheduled and they didn't show up the following day. No email or notification. Very unreliable. They do not answer calls. Terrible communication. Be sure to have an alternative option if you book anything with this shady organization. Attached is a photo of where we waited for the ride that never showed up.
The tour was incredible! Christian was very knowledgeable and talked us through the whole process of how auroras form. It was incredible to see everything from start to finish!
We went on David The Guides Spirit of the Aurora tour and it was great! The guides were knowledgeable and felt like home. We felt as if we had known them since high shcool. The hot chocolate was yummy and the pictures were sent promptly and were quite good. Would go next time, plus they give you a rerun if you don’t see the lights. May the spirit be with you!!!
Our Northern Lights tour with David the Guide was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience! From start to finish, everything was perfectly organized, and our guide, Ania, went above and beyond to make sure we had an incredible night. Beyond just chasing the aurora, Ania created a warm and welcoming atmosphere. She shared fascinating stories, provided hot drinks to keep us warm, and even helped us with photography tips to capture the moment perfectly. Her passion and enthusiasm were contagious, making the experience even more special.
It was really cold so dress accordingly - it was cool that we got to see the aurora lights - but it is a natural occurrence so don’t expect to see the craziest of them.
Christian was an amazing guide and incredibly knowledgeable. Amazing views. He knew exactly where to take us to see the Northern Lights. Can’t wait to get his photos.
This was my first time witnessing the majesty and breathtaking magnitude of the Northern Lights, and I cannot recommend this experience enough. Our guides, Christian and Ania were fantastic! Christian was so knowledgeable about the Lights and shared valuable insights! We also appreciated his stellar photography skills. I recommend this experience through and through! :)
I took a northern lights tour with David the guide company. The weather conditions were not ideal for seeing aurora as we knew the storm was coming soon however due to Ania’s (our guide) expertise and intuition we managed to see amazing dancing Aurora boréalis and get great photos. It was magical expérience! Highly recommended;) Bus was very nice and comfortable, we got hot chocolaté and cookies which was a Nice touch after being outside in the cold windy weather;) Ania was very helpful and gave a lot of information on northern lights during whole tour. I had fun and am very happy with the expérience:)
I had a great time chasing the Northern Lights with our tour guide David aka Christian (not David the Guide haha)! He was very knowledgeable about the lights and taught us about the importance of checking both the KSP of the lights as well as the magnetometer, satellite, and oval circle readings to make sure all the right variables were coming into play. You could tell that he was very passionate about the Northern Lights and seeing and photographing them. Although the Northern Lights weren't super strong the night I went, they did show up on the camera pretty well when David took our photos, which was very cool! We drove to two different places to try and see the lights better which I appreciated, and the hot chocolate and cookies were very warm and comforting since it's very cold when you're outside. On that note, I'd definitely recommend wearing at least 2 pairs of socks and at least 3 layers of pants and tops under your jacket to stay warm! (something I didn't do haha) I also ran into a couple on a trip who told me that this was their third time trying to see the Northern Lights with their booking since their other 2 nights weren't as good so they were allowed to reschedule/rebook additional days for free. I appreciate that David the Guide gives you the option to rebook/reschedule additional nights for free if you're not able to see the lights on your scheduled night. I'm pretty sure seeing the Northern Lights is definitely at the top of everyone's wish list while they're in Iceland so I appreciate that they're so helpful in helping you get to see it! Overall, I'd definitely recommend David the Guide for trying to chase or see the Northern Lights!
The northern lights hunt bus tour with “David the Guide company” was worthwhile. Our guide was Swedish but living in Iceland for 7 years. He was knowledgeable, fun and a die hard photographer, being outside in the cold the whole time in freezing cold & hard winds to take numerous pictures of all of us and the northern lights. The sad part was that we travelled a lot to see some northern lights and although we saw them we saw them through the clouds. Nevertheless, they were so strong that the pictures look amazing. Thank you and the bus driver! Memorable photos
This trip was a complete disappointment. The weather was terrible, with rain pouring down and thick clouds obscuring any chance of seeing the elusive Aurora Borealis. Despite the awful conditions, the tour continued, and we were out until the early hours of the morning, fruitlessly chasing nonexistent gaps in the clouds. I can't help but feel like the tour operators should have cancelled the trip and saved us all the trouble. It was a huge waste of money and time, and I was left feeling cheated and frustrated.
Wow! What an experience! We experienced how an aurora slowly builds up, shines, dances, slowly collapses, gathers new strength, and shines again. Great! The weather cooperated perfectly. Our guide, Chris, was super and provided us with exciting information. There was Wi-Fi, blankets, and hot chocolate in the minibus. Top!
It was a really exciting experience! The weather conditions were very favorable and allowed us to enjoy a simply unforgettable Northern Lights. Great credit goes also to the guide Annamaria, who took us to an isolated fjord not far from Reykjavik from which to observe, in total darkness, the aurora. She was very good at illustrating the phenomenon; moreover she took wonderful photos with the aurora in the background, an incredible memory! Much appreciated the fact of being in a small group, which allowed everyone to have their own time and space to take a few more photos with their own equipment. Tasty hot chocolate offered by Annamaria. Highly recommended!
Excursion booked by Guide to Iceland. Pick up in front of the hotel is pretty cool. But 40 minutes late, it would've been nice to let us know the minibus was coming, by text, rather than waiting for you in the blizzard. Two-hour drive, where the driver ate the side of the roads, while talking... sorry, sorry... Well, no, you've got 18 people in charge. In short, we have seen aurora, splendid, connect to the aurora.is site that will give better information. Well, that's it, but it's not organized in the timing.
It was a very cool tour, the Christian guide told us a lot of things about the formation of auroras and how to hunt them on the way. You can tell he loves it and transmits it. We made a stop where he considered it most appropriate to see them and effectively just getting off the bus we saw them. We waited a while to see more and while, we had hot chocolate and cookies. He also took pictures of us all with his camera.
The tour was very well prepared. Small group. What can I say, our guide Ania chose the right place and we had a great Northern Lights experience. We had hot chocolate to warm up afterwards. Completely satisfied and highly recommended!
