As a former national park guide, this was one of the most magical experiences I've ever had; far exceeding our expectations. Our guide, Clemmy (Clemmons) was so friendly, relatable and shared valuable information that helped us understand what we were seeing. He was diligent in searching for the aurora and helped us understand the importance of patience while waiting for the northern lights to reveal itself . We can't say enough about his knowledge, experience and his willingness to give his personal perspective and show his pride for Iceland. We felt so welcome and it's the highlight of our visit.

Itinerary
Your Northern Lights adventure begins the moment our experienced guide collects you from your chosen pickup spot in Reykjavík, driving a specially equipped 4×4 super jeep designed for the journey ahead. Once everyone is aboard, we’ll leave the glow of the city behind and venture into the vast, quiet darkness of Iceland’s countryside. As we search the skies for the Aurora Borealis, the route may take us past some of the country’s breathtaking natural landmarks—hidden in shadow but revealed by your guide’s keen eye and knowledge. By traveling along less-traveled rural roads, we escape the crowds and enjoy a better chance of witnessing the Northern Lights in all their brilliance, along with the serene beauty of Iceland’s night sky.
When the conditions look right, your guide will choose the perfect viewing spot based on the evening’s weather forecasts. Then, it’s time to settle in and wait for nature’s show to unfold. The Northern Lights usually dance about 100 kilometers (60 miles) above the Earth’s surface—an otherworldly display born near the north magnetic pole. Watching ribbons of color sweep across the sky feels almost unearthly, as if the cosmos itself were painting over the night. Be sure to dress warmly, as the Icelandic night air can be brisk. A fleece sweater or one of our cozy blankets will help keep the chill away while you wait. To make the moment even more comforting, we’ll serve you a steaming cup of cocoa paired with a sweet chocolate bite. And when the aurora appears, you won’t just see it—you’ll have the memory captured forever. Our guides take photographs each time the Northern Lights reveal themselves, ensuring you’ll go home with your very own picture under the glowing sky.
We will end the adventure with a drop off in Reykjavík from your original pick up location. Kindly note that the Northern Lights are natural phenomena that are difficult to predict, but our guides do everything in their power to ensure the best chances of seeing them.

When you book a tour to see the Aurora Borealis, you hope the weather gods will be kind, while knowing there are no guarantees. After all, the elements don’t perform on command. Since it was very cloudy when I went on my Northern Lights Super Jeep tour, I had low expectations. But thanks to Hjörtur’s expertise, persistence, plus a dash of good luck, my group ultimately was able to see the Northern Lights. He knows how to track and chase open spots in the cloud cover, what locations would give us the best chance, and what to watch for in the skies. As it was, it took us multiple attempts at different locations to find a clear spot. The lights were faint, and an amateur like me would definitely have missed the signals. Hjörtur’s dry wit and upbeat banter made the whole experience fun and enjoyable, even without the Aurora. Seeing the Northern Lights has been on my bucket list for a long time, and it is thanks to Hjörtur that this dream has been fulfilled. If you book with Arctic Adventures, do whatever you can to get on his Jeep.
Freeman was great!!! From the useful information to excellent hot chocolate. We loved our experience. And. We saw some auroras.
The best tour I’ve ever taken. I had an emergency that prevented me from arriving on the scheduled date, and they were incredibly understanding and empathetic about the situation. Our guide, Hjörtur, was punctual, extremely friendly, and fun. He did everything possible to make sure we saw the Northern Lights, and his experience in chasing them really shows. Hjörtur is, without a doubt, the best tour guide I’ve had in Iceland. I couldn’t recommend this tour enough.
Although we didn’t see much activity due to cloud coverage, we had fun. Our guide and driver was outstanding and alot of fun. It was cool to off road in the lava fields and on the beach. We enjoyed seeing Iceland at night and connecting with Mother Nature. The hot chocolate was nice on a cold night.
Our driver was great and took us straight to see the northern lights. It was wonderful.
Fantastic night chasing the northern.lights ...and finding them !! Our guide H, was very informative and entertaining and did a great job in finding a spot for us to view. Would definitely recommend.
This was a great. Our guide (H) really made the experience. He was adept at handling the vehicle confidently off-road through the snow, was passionate and knowledgeable about the science of northern lights, took great photos of the group and even told funny jokes. We saw an amazing show of northern lights and would definitely recommend.
We chose Arctic Adventures’ Northern Lights Super Jeep Tour largely because they advertised photos would be taken and provided. During the tour, the guide clearly took many photos (he set up his camera and tripod at multiple stops, he reviewed his own images as he took them and he even directed people for shots based on the images he was seeing in his camera). The first problem - the photos were never posted and/or made available as promised by the guide. The second (and bigger problem) - after multiple follow-ups, we were told photography wasn’t possible due to weather and wind - which is simply not true. Not only did we see photos being taken by the guide with his 35mm camera and tripod, we were also able to capture images on our own phones that night. Because we relied on their advertised photos, we didn’t take our own family pictures — something we now regret. Very disappointing experience, and even more disappointing was the lack of transparency afterward. Unfortunately, based on our experience that night, I cannot and would not recommend Arctic Adventures.
The super jeep experience is totally worth it. The tour guide Mr H was great and very knowledgeable of the best spots and timing. He took us high on the mountains where there was a cloud opening and got some of the best lights of the season even when cloud coverage was very bad and snowy. During the same week we had booked a small tour with a different company on a small bus and it didn’t had the versatility that this tour had.
Guide very professional and kind. Very beautiful tour. Great experience!
Tour guide was creative and honest about conditions. He found a spot for us to see lights even w bad conditions. Courteous and funny. Highly recommend
We were cancelled the original night due to weather, which happens, so booked on the following night, timings was advised to be at pick up 15 minutes early, the arrival was within this but you MUST be early. We were taken out the city and were told to be patient, it does not just happen and knew it was not guaranteed, went to a couple of different spots, but the driver felt where we stopped finally we had a high chance, he served Hot chocolate, biscuits and Vodka if you wanted it whilst we waited, we saw the Northern lights, had plenty of time to explore and watch and was never rushed, had some pictures taken which we had to look online to obtain but these were free also. The guide explained everything, advised it was not guaranteed, was patient and gave us some explanations on what we were looking for. Very succesful and enjoyable evening.
H was a legend on 2/8. Found the lights insanely fast and they were beyond extraordinary. Super chill vibes, took some great photos of us. 100% convinced he’ll stop at nothing to give his guests the best possible experience.
This is a great tour. Hjortur is a pro, he knows how to find the lights if the are happening. I would highly recommend. Plus, it's a cool ride.
I did this tour 2 nights in a row. First the day I landed (27/1/26) with tour guide ‘Buck’. He was brilliant. It was a very cloudy night, so he went off roading to try and find us some lights. This is why I booked this tour, over the big bus. We were lucky that we saw the lights, but it wasn’t the dancing experience I was hoping for. That’s why I booked another tour. I was given 10% off from the company due to being a returner. The next night I was with tour guide Klemmi. Klemmi was lovely and very informative. We saw the lights within a few minutes. He then drove us to a spot to wait. Around 23:10, Aurora chose to dance. It was incredible!!. Seeing the lights dance was something I dreamed off! Thank you to both guides. They were both great in their own ways.
Had a great experience with this company! Driver arrived within 10 minutes of the scheduled departure time and took us to 2 different locations. He was funny and informative and we got yummy cocoa and local biscuits as promised. He also took the time to take as many pictures as we wanted on the dslr camera and shared them the next day. We did get to experience a record breaking solar storm so can’t guarantee the same results for everyone but if it’s a clear night in season you will see something.
Freeman was amazing very knowledgeable and made the night. Highly recommend Was our first day and started the trip off on the best way possible
The tour guide was amazing , he knew the spots to go to! If you’re trying to go see the northern lights this is the place to book with
What an stunning and amazing experience! The tour was great! And our guide made sure that we enjoyed the ride and the total experience from the moment we got in the jeep! Seeing the northern lights was a dream come true! Would definitely do it again! It is totally worth it!
Awesome, excellent saw NL first try 🙏🙏🥳🥳🥳 it was a once in a life time experience.. a real bucket list ..checked off😱😱.We got to see beautiful lights&very cool .Altho we can appreciate it with naked eye our nice dricer captured them in his camera we got the pictures to prove it
Excellent experience, please make this a priority if you are here in the winter!! Palli was an amazing tour guide with a true passion for the northern lights. He really put in the work to make sure we had the full experience. This was our first day in Iceland and it set such high expectations for the rest of our trip. I can’t promise you’ll see the lights but I’m sure they will do everything in their power to make it happen.
WE WERE LUCKY. Seeing the Northern Lights on a set date is pure luck, and boy, were we. While waiting for the Super Jeep we already saw the lights in downtown Reykjavik, so I was like, bucket list already crossed, I don't know how it's going to be better than this. But our guide (starts with an H) was not only charming and good looking, he was so warm and friendly. He brought us to a really far place away from the city lights, off road and all, and parked in the middle of a field. And he made sure that we stayed so that we don't miss any peak moments. We saw so many peak northern lights! He was right! Great tour guide, great company, great experience.
We were lucky to book last minute and so glad we did. Hjortir Was an amazing tour guide and knew exactly what spots to take. He made the trip, fun and enjoyable for all ages. His off Roading skills and hot chocolate were excellent. Hands-down best trip!
Hjortur made the experience really wonderful. He was funny and passionate about giving us a great experience. I cannot recommend this tour enough. We had a great time.
Excellent experience for the great photo with northern lights. The tour guide was so professional. He knew every secret spot for the northern light.
Fantastic tour with H on November 25th. He ensure we had a great time, saw the lights and took plenty of photos. Loved the small group experience!
This has been an absolutely miserable experience. We are currently still on the tour, and it’s been so bad that I had to submit my review prematurely. Our instructions said to meet at a bus stop near our hotel, but the bus was about 10 minutes late. Not a big issue, but definitely could have been a red flag. After we and all of the other guests on the tour were picked up, our tour guide stood at the front of the bus and essentially informed us that he believed the tours should have been canceled due to the poor viewing conditions with cloud cover in the sky. However, the company was not willing to cancel since there was a small chance of some windows in the cloud cover, so the tour continued. What followed was one of the most frustrating 2.5 hours I have had in a long time, just a bunch of aimlessly driving around with no communication whatsoever on what we were doing or where we were going. This tour truly began at about 8:50, and we did not stop to allow for everyone to stretch their legs or use the restroom until just before 11:30. The cherry on top is that when we stopped, it was revealed that the vehicle we were riding in was having issues with one of the rear tires. It is currently 12:30 AM, exactly four hours since we were supposed to be picked up originally, and we are just now getting to go back to our hotel (we are almost 30 minutes away from the city). We did not get to see the lights on this tour, but that is not what made us upset about the experience at all. It was the absolute lack of communication on behalf of the company. If we had been informed about the long trip ahead of time, we would have no ill will for the company. However, given that we were seemingly just driving around in random directions on a night where the guide basically admitted that the odds of us seeing the lights were going to be low, I am extremely upset with this experience.
We had an amazing time. The jeep was able to get off road to give us the best chance of seeing the aurora. Frimann was knowledgeable about the science and the best places, and eager for us to get a good view. We had hot chocolate and Frimann took our pictures in front of the aurora. Altogether a fabulous experience!
We were delighted to see the Northern Lights upon our arrival on November 3. We received an email a few hours prior confirming that conditions were right. Our guide, Beeman, was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about making sure we saw Aurora activity, and used the super jeep to get us to secluded spots where there was indeed activity. We were amazed at what he could see and predict when it just looked like a dark sky with a few cloud whisps. He took photos of us with some of the displays and we are eagerly awaiting their posting! The hot chocolate was a nice touch. Although there wasn’t a lot of color other than green, it was really fun to see the streaks and movement through our camera lenses.
Both guides, Klemmi and Bjarni were incredibly knowledgeable and dedicated a lot of energy and effort to make this an amazing experience. We were anle to see some light in 2 nights and amazing lights in one of the nights. This was due to the quaity of these professiinals. Thank you!
The tour guide's energy was incredible, riding the huge jeep through nature hunting for northern lights was also a very unique and incredible experience, BUT the main event; "seeing" the northern lights was anything but incredible..... The fact that you barely to not see any Northern lights is very disappointing. And i know that there are a lot of factors involved and it cant be 100% promised BUT if the people don't get to see them, we should get a promised second try, instead of selling us the idea that what looks like a very faint white cloud that can only be see if you have perfect eyesight, is in fact the northern lights and can only be seen by a special camera that doesn't really capture it well at all. We didn't really see crap, and gaslighting us into believing thats the best you can do to show us non visual northern lights instead of a refund is just unacceptable. There are better tour agencies in my experience.
Definitely worth the upgrade to the Super Jeep! We were able to “off-road” to areas where others couldn’t go in the vans. Great way to spend an evening.
Was outstanding and amazing! H was very knowledgeable and helpful with understanding and seeing the northern lights.
H (Buck) was the best guide ever! Loved the super Jeep experience and he pulled out all of the stops to give us the best experience possible.
We were so lucky to get a good evening for the tour. More amazing than I ever imagined. Tour guide was great, very entertaining and informative.
H and James did a great job finding the breaks in the clouds and hunting down the lights. Fun guys who also took some fantastic photos!
Amazing experience! Seeing the lights was on my bucket list of life and got to see them the first night being in Iceland! Our guides educated us on the science behind the lights and made the evening incredible!
H was funny and knowledgeable about the northern lights. We went to a couple of different locations and got a spectacular show!
Our 1st night in Iceland there were no auroras. We were offered to call and reshedule another night for free. (Luckily we had time and did) This time we had Palli who drove us to a perfect spot, he narrated and answered questions as we waited. Its almost like he knew when they would appear and how vivid they would be! Palli was awesome.. my opinion he is a northern lights guro! It was amazing!!! Ontime pick up and the cocoa and choc sweets were delish!!!!
We went out on a night in late March, when the aurora activity was at a 6 but there was a lot of cloud cover. We actually hoped that our tour would get canceled, knowing there was little chance for a good viewing experience with the cloud cover and having only 2 nights in Iceland with no option for a "re-do." Our guide, Hjörtur, was funny and reallly worked hard to get us to locations where there was a break in the clouds. Overall, not a great viewing experience. On the plus side, we had a nearly private tour since only 4 people showed up total. And the super jeep was super cool! I'm giving 3 stars because it seems this company has a reputation for not canceling on low visibility nights (every other company canceled their tours that night) and we would have much rather had a refund when it was obvious we would not be seeing much.
Amazing! Rudolph is the greatest guide ever! He took so many great pictures, always had a great attitude and I even forgot how cold it was out there!
Excelente tour! Amazing guide Rudolf! The jeep can take you anywhere even offroad. The guide takes a lot of incredible pictures.
The lights were tough to find but H never gave up. He was an awesome tour guide and made the tour amazing. He was the perfect mix of funny and informative
This experience was amazing! Hjortur (I hope I spelled his name right) was an amazing guide who did not give up on finding the Northern Lights for us. He was funny, personable, and very knowledgeable about the Northern Lights. His tenacity paid off, and just when we'd all but given up and headed back toward Reykjavik, he spotted the signs, and we were blessed with a beautiful display. Hot chocolate and treats made the experience even better! Highly recommended!
We had a fantastic Northern Lights experience with Buck! He worked hard to find us the beautiful lights and they did not disappoint!!
H did an amazing job explaining the science behind the Northern Lights. The adventure off the beaten path was worth it!! H’s charisma and hospitality made the freezing night warmer! Great trip and worth coming again.
Freiman (apologies for the spelling) was great. Knowledgeable and interesting . Small minibus means you can chase them Helped by communication between other tour guides Well worth it
I expected to see the photos with my naked eye, so i was a bit disapointed but the photos didnt let me down. They were spectular. 10/10. The hot chocy slapped. Guide was da goat
