Northern Lights Small-group Tour With Photos, Snacks & Snowsuits

Really great experience. The tour was insightful and we were lucky enough to get some great photos. The guide was fun, informative and very helpful. Definitely a must do item in your Iceland Visit.

The guide cum photographer was very friendly and approachable. He was more than happy to take as many pictures of you as you want. The quality of professional photos was good and acceptable. He took us to a decent spot without too much light pollution and we could enjoy the beautiful night sky with successful aurora sightings albeit a very cold night. Our moods were uplifted with various Icelandic snacks and hot drinks. I will recommend this to anyone despite the hefty tour price. The group size is decent but we did not had any troubles. Everyone was polite to one another.

Thomas was our guide. He was friendly, funny, informative, and passionate about Iceland and the Northern lights. It was a magical experience we will never forget!

AMAZING! We left the city and because our guide did his homework he had us looking up at the Northern Lights within 45 minutes! This was such a treat. He may have been more excited than us at first. The snacks and hot chocolate were right on time.

The guide was very helpful and did his best to make sure that we had a good experience. We REALLY appreciated the snowsuits because it was terribly cold. We did get to see the lights and the guide shared his photos from the night with us so we knew we would get good photos. The trip is worth it but be prepared - the lights are wonderful but if you expect lots of colors that take over the whole sky then you will likely be disappointed. We appreciated the hot chocolate and snacks.

This was an excellent tour and overall experience. Guide was friendly, very knowledgeable and professional. Pickup was easy. The snowsuits proved very necessary and cozy. Would definitely repeat (some of my group did later in the trip).

Heimir was excellent; patient and knowledgeable and went out of his way to keep everyone happy and comfortable. The bus was warm and we used the snowsuits so we could stay warm and sit on the chairs provided and enjoy the fabulous lights in a remote location away from other tours. The snacks and hot chocolate were so welcome at the end. Would totally recommend.

We cannot say enough good things about Heimir. He was the ultimate guide and host. He communicated with us regarding seeing the northern lights and helped to reschedule us to another night where the lights would be more favorable. Heimir gave us frequent updates and was helpful during the pick up process. The bus is comfortable and heated. It was about a 30-45 minute drive to the viewing location. Heimir was consistently providing the group with fun facts, information, and personal stories all about the northern lights. His photography skills are amazing! He offered to take as many pictures as each guest wanted and would excitedly announce the best moments to snap shots as the lights brightened. Heimir provided the group with foldable camp chairs for seating, heavy and warm snow suits to wear over your clothes for extra warmth, and of course, traditional Icelandic snacks and treats with hot chocolate. At the end of our trip, Heimir made a complete effort to bring you back to our respective hotels and lodgings as close as possible. My husband joked and said Heimir would’ve probably driven us back to America if he could’ve! Just shows how thoughtful and considerate he was. Again, we cannot stress how amazing our experience was. Highly, highly recommend if you’re considering. We read through several different companies and offerings for the Northern Lights tours, and we are sooo happy we chose Heimir with Aurora Experts!!

Heimer was so wonderful, and the entire experience was incredible! He was flexible with rescheduling to a new day and with the pick-up timing, which I appreciated so much. He also went above and beyond to show us the lights and make sure we had the best time. I have nothing but good things to say about this tour and highly recommend to anyone wanting to see the lights!

Amazing evening! Heimir was a fantastic knowledgable guide. We had our 5year old with us and he kept us up to date on collection time so we weren’t stood in the cold. The sprinter was lovely and comfortable. We got to location and luckily they were out and got stronger. We had loads of lovely pictures taken that get emailed after. He then got out chairs, snacks, hot chocolate etc. Our little boy enjoyed the crispy chocolate and my partner the fish. Plenty of time spent at location and my little boy could go on and off the bus to keep warm. I would 1000% recommend this tour.

We didn’t see the lights on our first trip out so we got to come again. Both times our guide was amazing! Helped people learn about their cameras. Had chairs, snow suits, and refreshments. Even let me borrow a tripod since I could bring one in my luggage due to size. Highly recommend!

We had such an amazing trip with our tour guide Snow! Snow is incredibly patient, warm and super professional the whole time. No matter how many questions we asked, even the small and trivial ones, Snow always answered us in detail with a nice smile, never showing any impatience. Snow’s enthusiasm is really contagious—every introduction was full of energy, which made our trip so much more fun and engaging. What impressed us most is Snow’s professional knowledge. All the explanations about the scenic spots were clear and informative, helping us understand the local culture and history deeply. And Snow’s English is excellent, speaking fluently and clearly with no communication barriers at all, which made our whole travel experience smooth and comfortable. Snow took great care of our group, making sure everyone was on track and had a good time. We truly appreciate Snow’s hard work and dedication. If you’re planning a trip here, Snow is definitely the best tour guide choice! We highly recommend Snow and will remember this wonderful trip forever.

We booked a tour through Airbnb and it was cancelled last minute because not enough other people booked the tour. I understand cancelling a tour due to safety reasons, but this felt like mismanagement and misleading information. Worst of all, we were only notified a few hours before the tour was set to start, making us have to scramble for other options. We planned our entire trip around this experience. I am incredibly frustrated and disappointed by the way things turned out. If you are coming to Iceland in January, do not book with this group.

In a word, wow! We chose this company because of the small group size, the extra attention, and the great reviews 😊 Well, Heimir, you delivered. What enthusiasm and expertise. He really takes the time for you, for everyone in the group. He's very mindful of your safety. And then you can just enjoy the beauty around you. The details make it so worth it. The snacks, warm clothes, the seats, and the black bus are simply fantastic. Without being disturbed by other groups. And the pictures, the best memory. One of the most memorable moments of my life. WOW! This exceeded all expectations! I chose the company primarily for the available snowsuits and small group size. However, our guide/owner was such an enthusiastic and knowledgeable individual, he made an amazing viewing even better. I did take some of my own photos but when it was clear how much better his were going to be, we were able to just be in the moment and enjoy the movement of the lights. Pretty confident that having this excursion with three times or more people would have sucked.

Nature did not cooperate with our quest to see the northern lights during our visit to Iceland. However, Heimir -- our tour guide -- went above and beyond in trying to make it happen! We trekked out with Heimir our first full night in Iceland and visited several spots trying to see the lights. Heimir kept us warm and comfortable, allowing us to stay in the van while he observed the skies, constantly keeping up with the latest data coupled with his knowledge of key viewing spots. He also had full snow suits on hand for those of us who wished to venture out with him along with extra tripods for cameras and pastries. Because we didn't see the lights on our first attempt, we were offered a second chance. Nature again was not cooperative: we had a long streak of clouds during our stay. However, Heimir was very communicative via text messaging to keep us in the loop. Heimir did his absolute best to find the lights, kept in constant contact about the chances of seeing the aurora each day of our stay, and knows his stuff. Even though we didn't get to see the northern lights, I still highly recommend this tour.

This experience was amazing, we received communication the day we arrived saying that the northern lights were going to have better possibilities on the day before our scheduled day and so we were given the opportunity to switch our days which we did. The overall experience was great, having the snow suits were a must being out in the cold environment for so many hours. Our guide was amazing and very knowledgeable. First, I will say that it is very difficult to communicate with Heimer through viatour messaging. They don’t come through for him and he is trying to get viatour to fix it. I was a bit frustrated when he would not respond and then I got a message explaining the situation. He gave me alternative methods of communicating with him and I appreciate that. However, this tour was amazing and he did a great job explaining the lights. He has such a detailed way of determining the weather and best location for viewing. He sets the best environment for viewing for hours. He has a nice spread of snacks and drinks to share with guests. This is the only tour I could find with snowsuits and I have no idea how you could do it without one (esp in December). We did not see a tremendous display but we did see some and we came away with a better understanding of the lights.

We had an amazing time. We saw great Northern Lights. Our guide was so excited and his enthusiasm was contagious and added to our enjoyment. A definite bucket list item for us! We got such great photos. Snacks and snow suits were awesome as well as it was cold. Even with out the Northern Lights, we would have enjoyed the night. So many stars were visible in the sky and the company was great.

Simply incredible. Our guide, Heimir, was really passionate and clearly knew what he was doing. We were able to find a great spot to see the Northern Lights without any disturbance from other groups and got amazing photos. The chairs and snowsuits were great, since it was really cold that night. Totally recommended.

This tour was the best thing I done while in Iceland. Heimir Was outstanding from the get go. He was in communication with me in relation to the tour and even moved us to the following day as our original day was very cloudy and we may not of seen the lights. His enthusiasm for his job was outstanding and he was as excited as we were to finally see the lights. He kept us all informed throughout and explained how the lights become visible. We had to wait until after midnight to see them but because of Heimir explanation it made so much sense and I came away with a better understanding of aurora. As I said we were waiting a while but Heimir kept our spirits up the whole time so we didn’t lose hope. When the lights finally became visible it was breathtaking to say the least and I’m so grateful I got to experience this bucket list moment! It was so clear that night I even seen a shooting star! Having the snow suits was a major plus as it was extremely cold when we went out ( my phone said it was -10 in the location) so they kept us warm. We had hot chocolate and some Icelandic snacks too. Being able to sit on the camping chairs provided and just looking up at the sky was breathtaking too as there were so many stars. If I could give this review 10 stars I would. It was honestly the best part of my trip to Iceland and it was all down to Heimir and his knowledge and genuine love for his job.

The trip was cancelled due to poor cloud cover and no alternative was offered. Had to book with a different more expensive company the following night be able To see the Northern Lights before we went home.

Heimir is truly impressive; he knows the best places to admire the Northern Lights, and it's clear he has a lot of experience. The fact that it's a small group makes it more enjoyable and interesting. He also provided unlimited photos and a tripod for my camera. I would definitely take this tour again.

Felt like we were just a number on a conveyor belt. The authentic village was just a series of shops pushing overpriced junk. Rushed through every activity. The included lunch was cold rice and a tiny piece of chicken. Would not recommend to anyone.

This was one of the best nights of our lives! Heimir was the best guide. He cancelled the trip we had initially scheduled because he knew the lights weren’t going to be as strong, so he rescheduled our excursion for later in the week for free. When we did get to go out, his excitement and passion were evident the entire night. He took the time to explain everything to us. He was able to make science cool! And he did everything possible to make sure that we not only had the best view of the northern lights, but that we also had the greatest experience. The photos he took of us are astounding and he helped instruct each of us on how to set up our cameras to take the best pictures as well. He also provided snowsuits, chairs, hot chocolate and snacks that let us stay out in the cold so we could appreciate the lights longer and not be on the bus the whole time. My wife and I had the most incredible time and we highly recommend this trip to anyone who wants to see the best display of the northern lights!

Wonderful experience. Excellent guides - fun and good attitudes. Good crowd management with very minor hiccups that occurred (larger group than usual, and other people from outside the group interrupting us). These guys were great. And Mother Nature cooperated with an incredible display of lights. We were out until well after midnight - these guides were in no rush to get us home. It was perfect. Great snacks and drinks, and warm snowsuits too. Thanks - very highly recommended

The tour guide was phenomenal! He was above and beyond and made this experience the best! We cannot recommend using this excursion to see the northern lights enough!

The weather didn’t cooperate for us but Heimir went above and beyond with detailed communication and offered alternatives. I am sorry we are missing the experience because the customer service for not being able to go is so fantastic, the experience itself must be top notch. If we ever come back to Iceland, I will be rebooking with these folks!

While we were excited to go, I didn’t get any responses to my tour operator chats for days. I had one daughter stuck due to Heathrow fire so wanted to move her reservation with no reply for days. Then they canceled due to clouds anyway. Since they offer a rebook, we expected any night in the next week. We called when no response to chat for 2 days. They said the would respond in an hour. Then they said they were full so no rebook option. Only option was refund in a few weeks. We went to another tour operator - East west who were amazing.

Seeing someone who genuinely cares for you and want you to have the best experience possible warms my heart. Heimir did way more then it is expected, he was running around with a camera, literally asking us to pose a little more so we can have these beautiful shots! We got lucky with the weather conditions, that’s true, but as for someone who is coming back to Iceland every year, I feel lucky that I have finally found such a brilliant and passionate tour guide :) Don’t think twice, you will not regret choosing this trip.

What a wonderful adventure! We appreciated the care and effort that was extended in making this tour the highlight of our trip!

I can’t speak highly enough about this excursion. Obviously it’s a lottery whether you will actually see the NL’s but Heimir went over and beyond to give us an experience that will stay in the memory for a long, long, time. We had booked for the Wednesday, however Heimir messaged Tuesday morning to see if we could make that evening. The forecast for Weds was poor, but he thought there was a good chance of seeing the NL’s on Tuesday. Fortunately we could make the change - it was partially cloudy but Heimir‘s knowledge and persistence meant we were treated to an amazing celestial light show! On top of this the hot drinks and snacks were a great addition, as was the link shared the next day to all the professionally taken photos he’d taken. Thoroughly recommended and thanks again for going that extra bit further to provide a wonderful experience.

The best decision you can make when visiting Iceland is taking a northern lights tour with Ultimate Iceland Aurora Experts. Heimir communicated with us throughout the day, suggested pick up locations that were easier for us to get to, and truly chased the northern lights to get us the best possible experience. You can tell he’s so passionate about what he does, committed to making it the best possible experience for his guests. When we asked about how he got started in this, he said he saw so many companies just doing this badly, tour guides parking and locking people out of the bus and heading back at a set time even if the lights weren’t yet peaking, not really caring about whether people got the best out of this once in a lifetime experience. He’s committed to the opposite- tracking the forecast and getting you to the best spot, chasing down the best experience, photographing everyone and pointing out to us when it was moving or changing so we could track it. Cherry on top was Icelandic snacks and hot chocolate, . truly 10/10 experience and I’ll recommend Heimir and his company to everyone I know looking for a truly stand out northern lights experience.

Wasn't sure we would get to see the northern lights due weather conditions. We had a few nights in Reykjavik and the tour worked with us to take us on the next good night for veiwing if we were still available. And what a fabulous night it was. The northern lights were spectacular. Heimir, our guide, found the perfect spot to see them. I took so many photos. Heimir took photos of each of us with the northern lights and sent them to remind us of this spectacular event. He had hot chocolate, tea and snacks for us to enjoy. The experience was amazing.

Heimir was transparent in communications, responsive and on time for pick up. So incredibly knowledgeable about the aurora borealis and was more educator than tour guide- although he was a fantastic host with hot chocolate and snacks. So dedicated to having our group see the lights on what appeared to be a low chance night for viewing. It was a long night and we are grateful that he stuck it out with our group instead of calling it a night at the estimated “end time.” Thank you so much!!!

We had a great time with Heimir, who is super passionate and knowledgeable about auroras, and his enthusiasm and energy really made the tour really fun on top of seeing beautiful auroras. He answered our questions and gave us some great advice for future aurora hunting. He found the best possible places for us see them, places with low light pollution and possible areas to view. We went when there was heavy snow and not everywhere was plowed, so finding a safe place to park and without trespassing in the dark, I'm happy to have a guide take care of all of that for us. Heimir took fantastic photos which we will cherish forever, and also helped us take our own photos with our phones which became a fun challenge, taking a great photo of the aurora. We were given traditional Icelandic snacks including some festive season ones which were delicious. And even hot chocolate, perfect for the freezing temperatures we had that night. Aurora Experts are a little pricier than the average northern lights tours but I think they were worth the expense.

Where should I begin??? EVERYTHING was perfect - the weather as the skies were clear; the small group tour vs the large group buses; our knowledgeable guide; serene desolate location where Lady Aurora danced for us; the copious amounts of snacks; and the beautiful photos we received post adventure! I enjoyed ALL of it!

Excellent property with great ambiance. Staff is extremely sincere, dedicated and Good quality vegetarian food was also available.

Hugely disappointed in this tour operator. I understand that trips may change due to weather. But we booked this tour the first night we were on a 6 day trip. Hoping if we booked the first night and did not see the nothern lights, we could see them another night. So first night - trip was cancelled due to weather, which was fine. But no offer AT ALL to try another night. Just they were fully booked. So NOT what they are advertising - of ''we offer unlimited re-runs until you see the lights'' A refund was issued - though this was $30 less, due to exchange rate. We were there over new year so this may have impacted what they were doing, but when I asked if we could book another night - I simply got no response. We did end up paying for another trip with a different operator - costing us more money, as it was last minute - and we did end up seeing the Northern lights, on new years day, which was a once in a lifetime experience. Just not with this tour operator.

Our trip was cancelled on the day due to not enough people booked on. These things happen so fair enough. I did contact them to see if the trip was operating the next day but I didn’t receive a reply. Communication could have been better. In fact it was very difficult to contact the company directly without using the Tripadvisor app.

Everyone enjoyed this tour deeply. We appreciated our guides knowledge of the technical aspects behind the northern lights.

I would highly recommend this Tour! Our Tour guide was so nice and friendly and so knowledgeable about the northern lights..and thankfully we were lucky enough on our night to see them and they were spectacular we got our photo taken with them and he had sent them to us in no time aswell.. also the hot chocolate was roasting and delicious as were the pastries,chocolates and dried fish,an easy 5 stars for this one I'd give more if possible!

Heimer is an incredible person who cares so deeply in making sure everyone has the best possible time on his tour. It is evident in everything he does. This was by far the best tour we did while in Iceland and would do it again in a heartbeat.

This evening excursion, guided by the delightful Heimir, was the biggest highlight of our week-long trip to Iceland over Thanksgiving week of 2024. Heimir was a fantastic guide. He's knowledgeable, friendly, accommodating, and he knows exactly how to find the elusive Northern Lights and maximize the groups experience. He also takes excellent photos, which he touches up and shares with the group, including taking photos of the participants. It was a pure joy to see these mystical lights dancing over our heads. Our photos came out great, but the ones that Heimir took of us were absolutely spectacular. The setup of Icelandic snacks and hot chocolate was a nice touch as well. Heimir was also great about communication prior and after the trip. We would unequivocally recommend Heimir and Aurora Experts for your Northern Lights tour.

Very accommodating for young and old. Very thoughtful. Small group experience with personalized attention. Highly recommend
