Iskrem was a perfect guide! Had a lot of fun with the norhern lights
Haffi was amazing! Despite the clouds and rain, we chased and caught the lights at 2 great spots. He moved the tripod as the lights moved so everyone got good photos. We have gorgeous shots and we may have to frame more than one.
Seeing the Northern Lights was the main reason I came to Iceland, but the wind, rain, and storms had other plans! My tour was canceled twice, which was disappointing, but the communication was excellent. They let us know early each afternoon and explained that safety came first. Luckily, missing my flight meant I stayed longer and Tuesday night brought clear skies! They messaged to confirm we were going, and it was absolutely worth the wait. Our guide was so friendly and kept driving farther to find the best spot. What we finally saw was the most magical thing I’ve ever witnessed. Watching the lights dance across the sky was a dream come true. The small group made it feel personal. We had hot chocolate, plenty of time to enjoy the moment, and our guide patiently took so many photos of everyone. I never felt rushed, even in the freezing cold! One of the most beautiful experiences of my life. I couldn’t recommend more! 💚
Amazing experience with the driver idk his name kps.com is all I know he was awesome
It was cloudy and rainy. Our guide tried to find a spot and time to see the lights, but it was impossible.
Our original Northern Lights tour was canceled by this company due to bad weather, and we were rescheduled for another night. Despite the unfavorable weather conditions and poor Northern Lights forecast, the company still proceeded with the rescheduled tour. We drove for longer than the actual Northern Lights hunt lasted, and ultimately, we didn’t get to see anything. What makes this even more frustrating is that we couldn’t rebook again before leaving Iceland. When we requested a refund, they refused because the tour technically operated. I understand that sightings depend on weather and solar activity, but they knew the conditions were poor and chose to proceed anyway. The lack of flexibility and customer consideration was extremely disappointing. I would not recommend booking this tour in advance.
Trip was great, we we're just unlucky that there was to much cloud cover to see the northern lights.
This Aurora phenomenon is all about Patience and Luck! Our guide/driver Yoseph shared his skills in searching out the Northern Lights with patience in multiple locations and stops with limited luck due to the other natural phenomenon, Clouds. Unfortunately, our limited luck clouded out to expertise photo tips from Yoseph, hot chocolate and chocolate bars. Thank goodness we were offered retries and will repost once experienced, with luck and patience. Thank you Viator and Yoseph, this tour is highly recommended as its staffed with professionals. Looking for a second experience soon.
A joke. I understand you might not always see the northern lights but it’s hard to find if you are driving away from the spots shown on the live maps into the middle off no where. We spent an hour driving to end up at a petrol station 45 minutes away from Reykjavík where the driver just spoke to his mates. No photos off us were taken and we were late back because the stops he was taking us too lasted 30 minutes at a time where he would leave the bus door open and we would freeze. Once again like other reviews suggested the guide lied to us. I actually told him about the apps that you could use to see it, he didn’t understand me, then proceeded to tell the group as his idea to use the app. (Which said we were 30km away from the nearest sighting anyway) told us a faint white light in the horizon was the lights. No it wasn’t it was so random car park lights on the other side off the road. And once again nothing was offered in return off this trip. Also instead off a sighting spot took us to this cliff where you could see the city from above because the tour guide quote “brings his kids here to see the view” that’s great, it’s not what we paid for. Overall the mixed reviews annoyed me maybe if I had a different tour guide like the reviews say it might be different but in my opinion don’t waste your money to sit in what is essentially a large, over crowded, cold and slow taxi that just takes your round in circles.
Too cloudy however our guide drove us everywhere trying just was not to happen. Found a bathroom for us.
Very nice experience. Our guide Joseph was knowledgeable and helpful. He took us to two different locations.
Amazing experience, friendly driver and tasty hot choclate. We were really lucky and got fantastic views, the guide took multiple photos off us as well.
My husband and I had a great experience on this trip. Hotel pickup and drop off is a big plus. Our driver/guide Iosif (Joseph) was informative and worked very hard to get us to a great spot to see the beautiful Northern Lights. He took numerous great photos of all of us with the lights as the backdrop. The yummy hot chocolate and snacks were a welcome treat during this late night adventure. I highly recommend this Bucket List experience!
I cannot say enough good things about our Northern Lights hunt with Troll Expeditions! We were so ridiculously lucky to catch an incredible show in the sky, and the whole experience was magical from start to finish. The pickup and drop-off process was seamless and totally stress-free. A huge reason the trip went so well was our guide, Nelu. He was so well-organized and extremely patient with everyone. He took tons of photos, made sure everyone got a great shot, and kept offering extra photos to anyone who wanted more—and the final pictures turned out amazing! Also, standing under the night sky with a cup of super delicious hot cocoa was such a cozy, wonderful touch. My only small suggestion for the team is to bring a small waste basket along so people have a place to throw away their empty hot cocoa cups instead of leaving litter in the parking lot. Overall, an unforgettable night! Thank you Nelu and Troll Expeditions for such a great experience.
Never took us out, charged us anyway. First night they cancelled due to bad weather, second night they went ahead despite weather (combined weather & northern light forecsat) being worse. I'd book a trip on the day with your hotel when there's a good forecast.
Our driver/tourguide Josef was fantastic! Even though Mother Nature didn't cooperate and we weren't able to clearly see the Northern Lights during our tour, it certainly wasn't' due to a lack of effort of Josef's behalf. He took us to multiple sites, shared lots of interesting facts about Iceland during the drive, and warmed us up with piping hot cocoa as well. Our thanks to him for all that he did to provide a great experience.
Mother nature does dictate your experience, but we got lucky the sky was clear for us able to see some aurora light. The guide was very knowledgeable and nice. We were very pleased with the whole trip.
Amazing night for the Aurora!! Iosef provided great photos and the night was amazing!! Made sure we had plenty of time for Aurora watching and nature did not disappoint!
Our guide Nelu promptly drove us to a nice secluded spot to view the lights! He was an amazing photographer and made sure we got all the shots we wanted. I’m extremely satisfied with this once in a lifetime experience! And the hot chocolate was a lovely touch :)
Nelu is the man! Driver/tour guide/ photographer in one! Pick up was smooth, cool ride, nice playlist and amazing photos. I was traveling solo, this tour is excellent since it is just a small group, luxury of space and comfort, with hot chocolate and sweets and lastly photos are free! Isn’t that amazing? Sent us the photos even before we drove back to Reykjavic. I can’t thank you enought Nelu 👍👌🤗
Dreadful! Tour company cancelled the Tour because of cloud cover 8mins before our pick-up time. We were still stood waiting at the bus stop 20mins after pick-up time. Only found out about the email after calling them. Managed to rebook for the next day. Confirmation email states decisions to cancel are made at 3pm, so why weren’t we informed earlier?! Completely understand complications due to weather. Our time in Iceland is limited to a few days. Our time is precious & we could have made alternative arrangements.
Nelu our driver was great, picking us up on time and taking us to our first spot. We saw some incredible lights but we were then taken to a 2nd spot that was arguably better! The evening was cold so hot chocolate and treat were really appreciated. Highly recommended!
Hawk - our guide was superb. At first, we thought we would not see the northern lights because of the cloudy skies, but he took us to where there were clear skies. We saw the northern lights dancing above us, it was a dream come true. The photos taken by Hawk were also nice, but I personally prefer the photos my husband took 😂 The hot choco kept us warm and the chocolate wafers tasted soooo good, I even had to rush to the grocery store the next day to look for one 🤣
Iosif (pronounced Yosef) was a wonderfully enthusiastic guide. We started out in a snowstorm in Reykjavik with little hope of seeing the Northern Lights, but after driving out of town, the skies magically cleared and Iosif spotted the Northern Lights from the van. He pulled off the road and told us where to look in the sky. Sure enough, we saw the aurora, but it was relatively dim. We went back into the van to warm up but after a few minutes, Iosif excitedly told us to come back outside and the aurora was much brighter -- a magical and awesome sight. He then took many pictures of everyone with the Northern Lights in the background. We would not have been able to fulfill this lifelong dream without Iosif's persistence and keen awareness of where and when to look to the skies. An amazing experience!
Great trip to see the northern lights. Iosef was a very knowledgeable and great guide. The snow was bad but that didn’t deter him. Took us straight to a great spot and wow. Would highly recommend 😁
My first experience trying to catch the northern lights was boring but my second attempt with Troll.is was amazing…Iskren made it happen driving around without stopping until we got the perfect picture I highly recommend
Excellent northern light with professional guide.
Very good experience with Iskren!
iskren hit the jackpot. no more words needed.
The tour guide Iskren tried his best to hunt the northern lights. And at last we did see the light!!! Even though the probability was very low today!
Julianna is freaking bessstttt! Totally exceeded my expectations! Most amazing amazing amazing views of the northern lights!!!
Had a fantastic time, had a lovely clear night and beautiful lights, Juliana was a wonderful guide and got us to two fantastic locations
Great trip, couldn’t be better. Great northern lights trip — highly recommended
Really Perfect. Very fantastic.
We had the very best experience with Iskren! We found the lights 10 minutes outside of the city… wow! He took amazing photos of my family and was a really kind man - we loved the hot chocolate and candy. Perfect night. Perfect tour.
Great trip, our guide Egill was great. He explained the lights, took loads of pictures of us & was very good at letting us know when we could sit on the bus for a bit to warm up & when to get out as the lights were more active. We managed to see the lights (just about!), the hot chocolate is a nice touch as it was freezing (put on as may layers as possible 😂).
It always takes a bit of luck to see the Northern Lights. The best way to press your luck is with a guide who understands the variables that will impact your chances. Our tour guide did just that, and we got very lucky! The light show was spectacular! The guide was very friendly and took great photos of everyone - having a tripod helped to keep his camera steady and capture clear shots. The coach was warm and roomy. It made driving to find the lights comfortable.
Tatiana was an amazing guide, would highly recommend this tour to see the northern lights!
I joined the Northern Lights tour with Troll together with a friend, and overall it was a very satisfying experience. The tour lasted about three hours, which felt well paced and not rushed. We were also lucky with the weather — the sky was clear with almost no clouds, giving us great conditions to enjoy the lights. Our guide, Juliana, was professional and approachable. She explained in a clear way how the Northern Lights are formed and what influences their colours. She also shared helpful photography tips and assisted us with taking photos, which was especially useful for those of us using phones. The price of the tour was reasonable, and considering the organisation, guidance, and overall experience, it offered excellent value for money. I would happily recommend this tour to travellers who want a relaxed and informative Northern Lights experience.
I joined the Northern Lights tour with Troll together with a friend, and we had a really enjoyable experience. The tour lasted around three hours, which felt like a good length and was well organised from start to finish. The weather was very clear that night, with almost no clouds, which made the experience even better. Our guide, Juliana, was excellent. She explained clearly how the Northern Lights are formed, the different colours we might see, and what conditions are needed to spot them. She also gave very practical advice on photography and helped us take photos, especially for those using phones. Her positive attitude and patience made the whole tour relaxed and enjoyable. The price of the tour was reasonable, and considering the clear sky, professional guidance, and photo support, it offered great value for money. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area, especially if you are travelling with friends and want a well-paced Northern Lights experience.
Amazing tour for me. I cannot forget it. Thank guide! The northern lights are beautiful and leaves a lovely feeling of me.
JULIANA YOU ARE MY FAV PERSON EVER AMAZING TOUR GUIDE WHO TOOK CRAZY BREATHTAKING PICS💥💥❤️ really funny person who discussed a lot about The science behind the northern lights
Thanks to Jumary, we can view a beautiful northern light, Jumary made a few plans. Wen the first time we reached the spot, we found that we could see some lights but most of them were covered by the mountain, then Jumary had the Plan B, she took us to the next spot where we saw beautiful brilliant northern light, and she prepare lots of hot chocolate, and took photos for us really patiently. On the way, she also taught us lots of knowledge about the northern lights which really made me learn a lot.
Fantastic night hosted by the amazing Juliana. Enthusiasm, expertise and excellent guide to see the northern lights in all their glory! Hot chocolate, great photos and even shielded from the wind! Brilliant job. Thank you for making it such a memorable trip. Simon and Jacqui
The best day ever! Juliana is truly the best tour guide I’ve ever met! This was hands down the best day of our trip. She is so warm, enthusiastic, and has a great sense of humor that kept us smiling all day. What touched us most was her incredible patience in helping us take photos—she really went above and beyond! We feel so grateful to have met her. Thank you, Juliana, for such a wonderful and memorable experience!
We attended the Northern Lights tour on the New Year's Eve which was quite disappointing. People attending these tours fully understand that seeing the Northern Lights cannot be guaranteed, so not seeing them as desired is not the problem. However, if you pay 100 USD for a tour, you expect the tour company to know how to hunt for the lights in a structured and planned way to increase the chances. Our guide had very good intentions but he was extremely disorganised. The pick-up took longer than an hour for no reason, he wasn't capable of finding the locations or keeping a track of who was on the bus or not. Our guide took us to the small town he lives in and showed us his yoga studio when introducing himself etc for no reason. We wasted almost 1.5 hours before we started the Northern Lights hunt. When our first stop and attempt to see the lights was unsuccessful, he insisted we go and see the fireworks for the New Year although nobody was interested in this. The all tour took 5 hours and eventually we barely saw the lights but if we had not wasted so much time due to disorganisation and focus on the fireworks, we could have had better sights. Plus our guide had some sort of cold, he kept on sneezing so much into the microphone that he felt the need to explain to us he is a bit sick but it is only within his nose. My wife was sitting behind him and two days after the tour she now has the same, it was quite irresponsible to lead the tour even without wearing a mask to avoid making people on holidays sick. I do not recommend this tour at all.
At first I was disappointed as we waited 2 hours and nothing. But the drivers call each other and they drive to really Chase the Auroras. The driver was great trying to find then until we were able to see Auroras at the end. It was great!
Very enjoyable I would highly recommend it to others who would like to come to Iceland, and the experience is very delightful I had a wonderful time there.
What a joke! Our tour guide (costos? I think) stopped in 2 places, both with ground light and on the side of the road. He tried to convince us that we could see the northern lights and said we were ‘extremely lucky’ even though we could see NOTHING but clouds with our naked eye. Even with our cameras we couldn’t capture any lights. He took pics with his fancy camera with some green hue in the background which might as well have been photoshopped, and called it a ‘successful trip’. This meant we weren’t able to go on another trip according to the tour operators despite not seeing anything with our naked eye- which is the criteria for being allowed another trip on some other tours. He also spoke more about Greece than Iceland and kept coincidentally bumping into his girlfriend who was another guide on troll tours that night! Very disappointing and wouldn’t go with this operator again, at least not with this guide. Felt very unlucky compared to experiences from other people that very night.
