Reykjavik has high level of light pollution, making it difficult for good viewings of the aurora. To overcome this issue we go out into the darker countryside to hunt for the lights. You will be joined by one of our experienced northern lights guide who will have loads of information to share with you. With a little bit of luck you will find an amazing spot to view the Aurora borealis. When you reach the location that your guide has selected as being the best point for a sighting then you will have some time to get out of the bus to see the lights. You will have plenty of time to take some photographs, If you are struggling then your guide should be able to help you setup your camera.
Weather wasn't as cooperative as I'd like but the tour company was great. They reached out and made sure we had all the info. They were responsive and they let me do the 2nd chance tour. No complaints. Amazing company.
We did a tour with BusTravel Iceland on Tuesday the 13th and man it was awesome! Our guide Odyssey took us to a spot out of Reykjavik and although we saw some lights immediately he told us it's good that we wait because he sensed there is something better coming. About one hour and a half later, just when we thought the lights were done, they came back stronger than ever, just as he said! He gave us hot chocolate, and chatted with the whole group to keep the spirits high while waiting for them to reappear. Thank you so much for this great night!
Daniel was absolutely amazing. If the tour group doesn’t cancel go no matter what. It started to rain as we were going to head out but the tour was still going and we went. Danielle found clear spots in the sky at three different locations and the northern lights did not disappoint. His expertise and explanations were easy to understand and his technical ability and helping us all with our phones to get the best possible pictures was stellar.

Do NOT book this tour – or if you must – wait until the day of! And check the weather. Even if there is ZERO chance of seeing the Lights, they will not cancel the tour. The only reason I am giving this any stars at all is because the driver was nice and did his best — but that ended up being torture because he wouldn't give up, even though it was clearly impossible. The day before when we reached the cancellation window, it appeared the weather would be good. But by the time our tour departed, Iceland was completely socked in by clouds and it was raining. The responsible thing would have been for the company to cancel the tour. Instead, it insisted on driving us and 20 other fellow travelers around in the dark on bumpy roads for FIVE AND A HALF HOURS in search of a non-existent patch of open sky. The tour was only an hour longer than our flight to get to Iceland. And it was miserable. Unfortunately, we didn't check the weather before we boarded and trusted the company. However, there was wifi on the bus – so as it became clear something wasn't right, we looked at the weather and cloud cover apps. There was no open sky over anywhere closest enough to drive. The driver surely also knew that, because he was constantly checking his phone. I can. only surmise that the company makes the driver keep driving around to make a show of doing their best. In the end, our driver apologetically admitted defeat and took us for hot cocoa by a waterfall. It would have been better if he had done so hours earlier. It is without question the worst tour I have ever been on. A total waste of $500 that left us all exhausted. We ended up losing our money on the next day's tour as well, because no one wanted to get back on another bus. I understand that there is no guarantee that you will see the lights, but when the company knows for certain that you won't, it is dishonest and greedy. By the way, at the end of the tour, there was no offer for a repeat tour as promised by their promotional materials. Of course, they would have had to pay me to go on it.
The highlight of our trip to Iceland! Devin was an amazing tour guide, very knowledgeable & funny! Everything was brilliant - transport, commentry, location & hot chocolate. So glad we booked the small group tour and was lucky enough to see an amazing Northern Lights Display! Would highly recommend ⭐️
Svetlanna, our guide, was excellent. She really went all out for us, hunting the clear skies on a very rainy day (they will cancel if its going to be completely overcast). I strongly recommend this trip, it was rhe highlight of my week.
Michael was determined to find us the best spot for viewing the Northern Lights. Because we were in a van (vs a large bus), he could take us on smaller roads with less traffic and light pollution. We were lucky and saw the full display of lights. There were winds of 50 mph so dress warmly and bring a tripod because you need to keep your camera still to take the best pictures.
Be prepared for any kind of weather. We were lucky because we say the Northern lights right away and at all stops. Our tour guide JP was amazing with facts and helped everyone with taking the best pictures of the experience.
Well worth it! The knowledge and experience that our guide Daniel had paid off. We got to enjoy a sighting of lights and chocolate.
I booked this tour because of the positive reviews saying how the guides ensure you get the best possible view and if you don’t see lights you can rebook. I wasn’t happy with the little to no light we saw that night. My guide claimed it as valid and that I couldn’t rebook again.We also stayed that night waiting for less than a hour and in one spot. My guide made no effort to move to “chase the northern light”.
We are so glad to see the northern light in one of the clear sky of the week in late August. It was pretty faint but at least we get to catch the moment in person. Downside is driver didn’t even offer us a cup of hot chocolate when people were freezing returned to the van….
Jonas was a super host - he is passionate about his work and couldn’t have done more to make this enjoyable. The Northern Lights weren’t quite as obliging, but we did get a few glimpses-
Even though we didn’t see the Northern Lights (bummer, but nature does its thing), this was still a great experience. Our guide, JP, was fantastic—super knowledgeable about the Northern Lights and shared lots of interesting facts throughout the tour. He was a great driver, easy to talk to, and the hot chocolate and treats were such a nice touch. He really made the whole experience enjoyable and worth it, even without the lights. I’d definitely recommend this tour!
our driver Kuba was excellent , patience , courteous, helpful and was knowledgeable about his job. it was exciting for me bec it was my dream to come to iceland to see the northern lights i was blessed to see it and we have the perfect driver and guide his customer service is excellent and i would definitely recommend this company a to my relatives and friends when i go back to the US i had a wonderful experienced. I did this tour with Svetlanna, who was in communication with other people in order to get the best spots for us to see the Northern Lights. We were a group of about 20 people in a minibus. She took us to three different locations, one of which had hot beverages inside. The lights gave us a magnificent show that night, we could clearly see them with our bare eyes! Svetlanna gave us some information along the way and drove carefully through the night in Thingvellir National Park.
We were surprised and delighted. The expert knowledge and experience of our driver gave us the best chance to see the Northern Lights. The small tour allowed us to get on and off quickly and have space safely near the bus in the dark night to take photos. I wish I had worn more layers. Standing in the icy wind waiting for the Aurora to appear was tough.
Amazing experience!! We had a lot of cloud coverage but managed to find a spot in the National Park where there was a big clearing for a decent amount of time. Our guide was brilliant and very knowledgeable. He also gave us tips on the best way to photograph the Northern Lights. We booked the small group which was a perfect and we were able to go where the big 53-seater coaches couldn't. We arrived back at about 1am, it is a long evening but definitely worth it.

Michael from Bus Travel Iceland made our Northern Lights experience absolutely magical. Not only did he teach us about the Aurora, but also took us to places where no one else was. Having high hopes to see the lights, this trip became more than we could have ever imagined!
Great tour! Kristoff is a really good tour guide. He is nice and made sure that we all can see the aurora. He drove us to three spots, at the first spot, we could see the aurora but it was really weak. However, at the second and third spot, the aurora was strong and he also took pictures for us. Hot chocolate is also tasty.
Svetlava is a terrific guide and she took us to three spots where we witnessed northern lights. My wife and I just loved the experience.

Overall this was a good adventure our guide was willing to go the extra mile to keep us comfortable during the cold temperature. He was very knowledgeable on all things Iceland and the Northern Lights. Picture came out very good even in the cloudy weather.

We had a great tour and got lucky to see the lights as it was a relatively cloudy night. Pickup was seamless and very quick and our guide JP was very knowledgeable. The only hiccup we had was we had to change buses twice due to mechanical issues. Fortunately this did not cause us to miss any of the action as JP found us a great spot where the lights gave us a great show! Can now check seeing the northern lights off my bucket list!
Gulli did a great job giving facts and keeping everyone awake and enthusiastic when needed. Most importantly, we watched like 7 other tour buses leave but he had our group stay and we saw northern lights show a few minutes after. He really knows the lights!
Axel was simply a rockstar. He gave us sufficient information and took us to a couple of spots and we really lucky to see two instances. All this on our very first attempt.

We waited outside for 45 minutes in the freezing cold and the bus never came. They canceled trips for the day but never sent us a message.
Juliana was great and very interactive! Took photos, asked questions! Hot chocolate was delicious and warm! She even stayed out in the cold and called us out when the glow happened. We had little visibility but that’s not on her, she was great!

The tour lady may have lots of knowledge of northern lights but not experience. We got trapped in the snow and waited for more than one hour but nothing happened
Gulli, the guide, my apologies if I misspelled the name, was very good. He told us a lot about Northern Lights. He took us on 3 different locations. It was very cold, though my son managed to take lovely photos! Gulli was talking photos for members of group. We were treated to hot chocolate with delicious sweets. Great experience. Small group experience meant bus could stop anywhere to view the lights depending on the weather/visibility. We were Lucky to see the lights but it was cloudy so we were able to Rebook and try again. 2nd time we were in a Large coach tour that meant only could stop in set places . We were lucky and saw the lights again with no cloud! Both great experiences and lovely guides. Excellent customer service to allow repeat trip due to cloud.

JP was fantastic, no words to describe it, the pictures are incredible. He was very informative and went out of his way to chase them. I highly recommend (and this is someone who tends to find issues lol). My son’s ashes were spread under the lights several years ago elsewhere so this was something I’ll never forget

This was a superb choice of tour. Our guide, Ody, was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. He shared interesting information about the northern lights and the night sky, balancing time sharing information with giving us time to appreciate what we saw. We enjoyed this small (minibus) tour much more than a large bus tour we took on a previous trip.
