Overall we enjoyed this tour. The guide/drive to Vik and guide/driver to ice cave were very nice people and professional. The scenery from Vik to the ice cave is worth the trip. It is beautiful and unique with black sand, white ice and green mountains. We were given enough time at each of the stopping place. That being said, the glacier and ice cave are both underwhelming. Much smaller than I expected. Still if you think the journey there is the experience then it is worth it.

Itinerary
Switch from our bus to a super-jeep as you embark on this spectacular oddyssey to a natural blue ice cave on Kötlujökull glacier. Our expert glacier guides, with decades of experience, guide you safely through this extreme environment as we check out the beautiful blue ice cave and ice formations. We kit you out in crampons, harness and safety helmet for this unforgettable experience. The total experience takes around 3 hours. Please be advised: Due to the ever-changing nature of ice caves, we can't promise that the view during your tour will be identical to the images shown. Glaciers' and ice caves' appearance can differ based on factors such as the season, time of day, lighting conditions, and other variables.
Vík is one of Iceland´s most picturesque villages. It sits on the wild southern coastline, and is surrounded by magnificent scenery, including black sand beaches and basalt sea stacks. Overlooking the village sits Vikurkikja church, which boasts a studenous view.
We leave Vík and journey back west towards the capital, but not before two more essential South Coast hot-spots. First up is Skógafoss waterfall, a powerful natural wonder that leaves visitors awe-inspired. Cascading from a height of 60 meters and spanning a width of 25 meters, the powerful falls generate a constant mist, creating vibrant rainbows on sunny days. Framed by lush greenery and surrounded by dramatic cliffs, Skógafoss offers a breathtaking backdrop for nature enthusiasts and photographers alike. Accessible by a scenic staircase, the viewing platform at the top provides a stunning panorama of the waterfall and the surrounding landscapes, making Skógafoss a must-see destination for those exploring Iceland's spectacular scenery.
Seljalandsfoss waterfall is one of Iceland´s enduring icons. Famed for its wonderous walking trail that allows visitors to walk behind the falls, Seljalandsfoss is an essential stop on any south coast tour. After our 45 minute stop here, we continue on our way back to the city.

Prepare by dressing appropriately. Take a poncho. It is cold and wet. The transportation and driver were excellent.
Great experience! The pick up time listed in the Viator app wasn’t accurate. Everything was so fun and a great experience.
Our guide, Mr. Sultan arrived right on time to pick up, was very knowledgeable and friendly. He even walked upto one of the waterfalls and took everyone’s pictures from behind the waterfall with his own camera and later sent those pictures to everyone. It was a very nice gesture. I applaud his commitment to his clients. Katla ice cave portion was really adventurous and ice cave experience is worth all the bumps in the road to the cave. Highly recommend this tour to everyone other than the people with bad back.
Otto from gravel travel took us all around the south coast and was a great tour guide! in the van he played music by Icelandic artists and gave us lots of information about iceland and things to do. He was very knowledgeable about the ice cave and made sure we got a perfect picture there. We had a great time!
The cave itself is cool but getting there is the best part! The topography of Iceland is so beautiful.
I booked a tour with BusTravel Iceland, and it was truly an amazing experience. The trip was so enjoyable, well-organized, and full of unforgettable moments. A special thank you to our tour guide, Andrea, who was absolutely fantastic. She was professional, friendly, helpful, and made everything so easy and comfortable throughout the entire journey. This was honestly one of the best tours of my life, and an experience I will never forget. Thank you, Andrea, and BusTravel Iceland, for making it so special! ❤️ Mahdi KSA
They canceled it with about 12 hours notice the night before after transferring it to another company 2 days before the excursion.
The adventure was simply outstanding. The tour operator had a last minute issue with their vehicles, so they transferred our tickets to another company. It was very concerned at first, but the communication between the operator was outstanding, consistent, clear and professional. The transition to the other tour company was seamless. The driver of the shuttle was pleasant and engaging. We got to the drop off point to get on the giant Jeeps and worked our way to the ice caves. Our tour guide was excellent and informative. The ice caves were mind blowing and simply spectacular. Pictures can never do it justice.
Great way to spend the day out of Reykjavik! Axel our driver was very informative and clear about the days activities. The ice cave was spectacular though short and not a very difficult visit. Easy for all. The ride out to the cave was most time consuming but well worth it. Plenty of time to see black sand beach in Vik. We had a great day.
Very interesting ride in 4x4 followed by the visit of the ice cave… melting at a fast paste! Hurry up!
Our guides were so nice and personable which makes the day so much better. The ice cave was short but very neat to experience. The waterfalls are amazing!
Loved the small group experience. We had around 12 people and a great guide. I believe her name is Kate. She had a fun sense of humor which made the long day fun. I loved the "natural" ice cave vs. a man-made one. It was a shallow cave, just a few yards but very interesting. I also loved the waterfall that we were able to walk behind. Just a note of safety: getting up the rocks was steep at places and slippery because of the constant mist of the falls. You will need a raincoat of some sort as you will get wet. The experience, however, was awesome.
Pick up was on time at number 12-Foss Hotel. Alain was well versed in the history of Iceland and our stops for the day. He took pictures of our group of 8 too ! We had the best time today. Stopped for lunch and souvenirs too.
Incredible tour. Alain was a phenomenal tour guide, very informative, and knew everything from geophysics to folklore. The group and I were entertained the whole time. The waterfalls were beautiful, and the ice cave and landscape were something out of this world. Will definitely book another tour next time in Iceland!
The tour was absolutely fantastic with stunning views, fun experiences, and an amazing tour guide. Alain is very polite, easy to have a conversation with, and very educated about the geography, and political history of Iceland and was thrilled to share it with us. 10/10 would recommend.
This was a great day!!! Our tour guide Allain was fantastic!!! He kept us entertained the entire day with lots of information and fun stories. The waterfalls were great and the Ice Cave was so cool. The scenery was so unique it was worth the trip!
Alain very informative and was pretty funny as well. He was very helpful and accommodating to everyone . Highly recommend this tour as well as the guide. Every single stop was incredibly interesting
Alain was a great tour guide, had so many cool stories to tell and very kind
Excellent trip, worth the time and money. Little better planning needed as to pickup locations in the morning. We were an hour late getting picked up in the morning which was very frustrating. We did receive a full tour and driver John was great - very knowledgeable and friendly. Cave was amazing.
There were two guides on this tour, one who did the waterfalls and black sands in a mini bus and one who did the glacier and a beach in the 4x4. The best bit was the mini bus guide who picked me up showed me the waterfalls and drove us home. Although the glacier tour part was incredible and the driver was very capable, we drove on the beach at one point and I couldn’t see anything as I was on the side away from the shoreline so that was disappointing. I also felt like as a solo traveller I kind of got a bit ignored and out crowded by the larger groups I was with. However it did give me sometime to separate and sit outside the cave on glacier to just exist in the snow with the ravens and arctic fox tracks which was truly magical. I can’t say enough good things about the mini bus guide, he got me home in time to see the concert I was booked for and he was just smart, funny, intelligent and kind. It’s tough the over tourism in Iceland especially as a lot of people want to just check boxes and not exist and absorb the beauty quietly. I recommend this experience for sure, but wear proper shoes (one girl had trainers and no socks) and respect nature by being present and pausing.
Drivers were really friendly and safe. Beautiful experience. There is alot of time spent on the buses but the views are spectacular all throughout.
The super jeep ride, walk on the glaciers terrain and ice cave exploration was superb, thanks to Wilmer who made light stressful moments as he navigated difficult terrains.
Not only was this your fantastic, but our guide had some of the best time management skills I’ve seen! A different tour we took we only got 10-15 minutes each stop when we were supposed to get 30-45 for the golden circle. This tour we were a little worried it would be similar, though our guide was on top of every stop! We got like 40 minutes every stop and that gave us time for photos and to enjoy the scenery. I’ve cave was amazing! This was a 10/10 tour!
Kalman is a great tour guide. He knows so much about the country. We really had a great time with him.
We had an AMAZING trip to Iceland tour for 7 days with an amazing tour guide GULLI (BUS TRAVEL ICELAND), he is the BEST that we ever had in our travels history. The Iceland country is very beautiful the landscape, volcano craters, and falls are must to see . We went during winter time but we had a lot of fun specially with our tour guide Gulli he is so funny and he make sure we are all safe and satisfied during in our trip. Best experienced EVER!!
So good and the guider is so kind
It was an unforgettable tour with THOREY as our guide. The waterfalls were amazing. The ice cave exploration felt very safe, and the cave was smaller than I expected. I also enjoyed the journey to the ice cave — it felt like an adventure.
This experience was amazing. The waterfalls were absolutely breathtaking. Our guide, Carmen, was knowledgable about the south coast and answered any questions we had for him. He also made some bonus stops not on the tour, like the black sand beach and the church at Vik. The journey to the ice cave was unforgettable as well and so much fun. This is well worth the price and it was really a half day tour: we got picked up at 8:15 and came back to the capital at 8:45. Worth every penny.
Both of our tour drivers were fun, knowledgable and helpful. Axel and David were both great and I loved that there were only 7 people on our tour.
This tour was the best one i did on my visit to Iceland. It was absolutely fantastic from beginning to end and the tour guide named Mr Skuli Skulason was absolutely brilliant! His driving skills on the glacier were incredible and he got us safely to the entrance of the Katla Ice Cave which is an adventure in itself! Its a real adventure driving all the way to the other side of Iceland to see this incredible area which is covered in so much natural beauty. The landscape along the journey is out of this world and once you get to the ice cave to see the thick naturally formed ice it is a real treat as I had never visited a cave like it. All safety equipment is provided and the specially adapted Mercedes Sprinter van is amazing to experience in the snowy conditions as it behaves like a 4x4 Jeep ploughing through the thick snow on the glacier. The commentry on route was very interesting and the waterfalls were also awesome to see. The tour is well planned and you stop off for comfort breaks and food and the pick up was very convenient as well as the drop off. A special thanks to Skuli from 'Gravel Travel' who really made this tour fantastic! He's a great guy to talk to and I highly recommend this tour where you really get to see the hidden naturally formed treasures of Iceland -What an incredible country it truly is!
It wasn't really that bad except... we need more time to see the places. To me its like always on a rush.just to use the restroom it takes almost 25 min because of the line.then by that time we are going to see the scenery, its time to go back already.its very very short time. Also, while the tour guide was actually nice, he should at least tell the people about the rules of no changing seats.we had that problem today. Someone trying to take our seat. And that's not very pleasant. We should have enough time for every place we go to. Another suggestion is that the bus drop off should be a lot closer. It always takes 5-10 mins to walk to the place, vice versa, and then it doesn't leave us a lot of time left to actually explore the areas.
This was a wonderful experience. Working with David with Gravel Travel team was fantastic. He was considerate, helpful and extremely information.
Great tour! The sights are truly spectacular, and both drivers/guides are pros as well. The Katla ice cave is an amazing sight which should not be missed!
super fun trip! my guide was toby and he was an amazing host. he was full of great stories and conversation. the stops were clear and gave plenty of time!
The tour was magnificent. I would do it again !!! Add and David were awesome tour guides . Thanks for making the trip magical.
We had an amazing trip to the South Coast and Katla Ice Cave. Our guide from BusTravel, Alain, was a wealth of information and he kept us entertained and educated us on Iceland during the drive. I can’t believe how much he knows and so grateful he shared his knowledge with us. He gave us recommendations for Reykjavík and he even sang us a traditional Icelandic Saga song! When we stopped at the Waterfall, he took us to a different waterfall that we could climb under a cave and stand beside. It was an amazing extra to the tour. On top of that, the Katla Ice Caves was truly a once in a lifetime experience. It feels like you are on a different planet driving out there. Our guide for that portion was from Gravel Travel and he was great. The caves were incredible and on the way back to Vik, our guide drove us on the black sands beach right next to the tide. Wow!! Highly recommend.
Our guide, Alain, was wonderful! We learned so much about the southern coast and Icelandic history. The ice cave tour was so much fun.
It was incredible! Our tour guide Alain was amazing and so knowledgeable! He made a wonderful trip even better. The Katla cave was a blast and our Katla cave guide was incredible and ended the tour with an amazing drive along the coast of the black sand beach. The day was full of beautiful and exhilarating experiences. I couldn’t say enough about this tour. Thank you bus travel Iceland!
What a great tour! Our tour guide Alain was the best we have had- smart, funny and informative! I learned a lot about the history of the area and got some helpful tips. The tour itself had all the highlights- charming village, waterfalls, stunning views!
Josif and alli were an amazing tour guides, very knowledgeable and good blokes. Would highly recommend
Great tour! Snow pants, gloves recommended along with face covering. Unique experience - waterfalls were beautiful as well. Crampons provided and were needed.
Fantastic tour and I highly recommend the south coast tour with the ice caves. Toby was our driver and he was great and filled the drive time nicely and he was great about letting us know when to buy supplies and use the bathrooms at stops. Iceland in winter is unpredictable, be prepared for weather changes. The ice cave portion of the trip is about 3 hours - one hour out to the site, one hour there and one hour back. The terrain is incredible to get to the actual caves. You get crampons to hike to the opening and to walk inside. The inside portion is probably closer to 20-25 minutes, but it’s enough to capture great photos.
This was a must do! Katla Ice cave cool and so remote! The beach was beautiful, even though it had been massively washed away by the ocean right before we got there! Our guide was great and showed us so many sites! Great way to see a few more Iceland’s great waterfalls an landscape!
Ottar was amazing guide! Made the trip feel very personalized by stopping at photo spots (church where the famous eye test machine is used) and the black sand beach! full of knowledges and talked a lot about history of Iceland.
The guide Ottar was nice and super bc he is wz us to every single site. The Katla ice cave was smaller than that I thought but it’s still incredible.
This experience was even more amazing than I expected! Kudos to Gudjon for his commentary while driving and for his driving skills while navigating a snow storm and closed roads.
Kris was great and explained many interesting iceland facts! also made impromptu stops to see icelandic horses and northern lights.
We had an amazing day with beautiful views. Katla ice cave was an incredible experience, and the waterfalls were the perfect addition. Our tour guide for the south coast, Dooley, was lovely and told wonderful stories about his life and experiences in Iceland too. Would absolutely recommend!
We had such a wonderful day! Magical! The nature is so beautiful, and the ice cave felt surreal! Our guide, Dooley, was so sweet! Telling us tons of facts and sharing lovely stories along the way! A different guide took us to the cave (I can't remember his name, I'm so sorry) and he was so amazing as well! Only the best people here!
