Eliza was a great guide. She did her best to drop us off as close as possible and always stayed with the van so we could always get in. She was also funny and informative. I loved her talks. Once you get to the ice cave another company takes over. He wasn't nearly as fun to ge around but the caves were incredible. I loved the natural caves instead of the man made ones from other places.

Itinerary
Your adventure begins with a morning pick-up from select locations in Reykjavík. From Iceland’s vibrant capital, you’ll journey along the scenic South Coast, home to some of the country’s most breathtaking natural wonders. As you travel, enjoy views of charming villages and dramatic landscapes carved by glaciers and volcanoes. The route takes you to the picturesque town of Vík, where the final guests join the group before continuing east toward your glacier and ice cave experience.
Skógafoss is one of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls, cascading 60 meters (197 feet) down a towering cliff into a mist-filled pool below. Its raw power and stunning surroundings make it a must-see destination for photographers and nature enthusiasts. On sunny days, vibrant rainbows frequently appear in the spray, creating a magical and unforgettable experience.
You arrive in Vík and transfer from the minibus into a Super Jeep, which will take you off-road on an exciting journey to the glacier.
Now it’s time to gear up with crampons and step onto the glacier! Prepare to immerse yourself in a cinematic landscape as you explore the stunning blue ice and striking black volcanic ash of Mýrdalsjökull Glacier. Your certified glacier guide will share expert insights about this incredible natural wonder. Please note: Ice caves are dynamic natural formations that constantly change due to weather, temperature, sunlight, and precipitation. This means the cave’s appearance may differ from the photos you’ve seen. On each tour, you’ll visit the best accessible, naturally formed ice cave available—carefully selected based on current conditions and safety. Because nature is always shifting, every visit offers a truly unique experience.
Seljalandsfoss is one of Iceland’s most distinctive waterfalls, renowned for the footpath that lets you walk behind the cascading curtain of water. Plunging 60 meters (197 feet) from ancient sea cliffs, this breathtaking waterfall provides a unique vantage point and unforgettable photo moments. Get ready to feel the spray, and be amazed by the view!
You’ll arrive back in Reykjavík in the evening, concluding your unforgettable day of adventure.

I liked our driver for this tour. He did tell us some interesting facts about Iceland. The waterfalls were beautiful. I had never walked on a glacier before and it was amazing views. I thought the caves would be a bit deeper but still very neat to see. One of our favorite experiences during our week in Iceland
My best tour of the trip!! Our guide Peter that took us to the cave was outstanding. We had so much fun and he explained us so many things about the glacier. He took care, kept us safe & most importantly I had so much fun. No rush, we could take the time we wanted. Best experience!!!
This experience was awesome! Would highly recommend. Our tour guides were fun and made sure the entire group had a great experience. The tour is long so definitely eat and bring snacks but so worth it and we created lifetime memories with our family.
Does not go out on glacial ice. You go to side of a glacier, walk on old lava that is on top of ice and into a small ice cave.
Amazing experience with Katla Ice Cave! The ride with super jeep was so much fun and full of adrenaline, and the whole hike was absolutely breathtaking! Our guide, Peter, was fantastic — funny, kind and so lovely! He made the whole experience even more enjoyable. highly recommended! ❤️
For The price it’s a Bit overrated! You do get some nice views which is almost guaranteed once you come to Iceland, but the caves are underwhelming if you have any point of reference before going. Instagram will ruin it for you lol just the truth. We had an amazing guide though.
The day commenced slowly. Being instructed to arrive at the pick-up at 9 am “sharp” Trip notes indicate waits can be up to 30 minutes. Bus arrived at 09:50. I do understand schedules can change as the weather was exceptionally wet and windy even for Iceland standards. When the bus arrived, it was already exceeding the maximum small tour group of 12-14 guests. Our group consisted of 24 on the final pickup. Some group members were very chatty, which made it difficult to hear the guide’s instructions and explanations. The Katla cave tour was more of a hike to an opening with a brief walk in and out, completed in under a few minutes. This was not in line with the expectations conveyed in the photographs, which depict an upright walk through an ice cave. I understand that a cave may become inaccessible due to unpredictable conditions, but the trip notes should state this. The roof collapsed some time ago and water flows through the cave. The photographs are no longer representative of the experience. It would be appropriate if the tour organisers considered updating the expected tour ideals with current photographs and information to reflect the actual experience. The only person who saved the day was our guide, Lucky. She was passionate and highly knowledgeable of Icelandic history and culture, however I was unable to hear much due to the crowded bus. A 12 hour journey in this situation was not what I paid for. If the tour had been the maximum 12-14 guests it would have helped salvage the lack of “ice cave“ although the hike to the area was adventurous. Overall Lucky was a great guide and her chosen music fit for Icelandic scenery.
About 1.5 hrs travel in a VERY BUMPY jeep. Poor crampons..mine was broken but the guide said he couldn't do anything about it. I fell twice. You only go about 20 feet into the cave when you finally get there. The guide was not easy to understand. All in all a very bad experience.
EXTREMELY UNRELIABLE - they had cancelled our booking 4 days before. We had asked if we could do the time an hour earlier but they refused to make space and told us they could only support a more expensive private tour option for the time we had originally purchased. Their support was very unwilling to help, and their were no compromises on concessions they were willing to make after putting our group out.
Peter was an excellent and friendly guide. We appreciated that our Arctic Adventures transportation was on time for the pick up, unlike other tour companies at the same pick up spot. The tour was fun, informative, and safe. We were on the 8:30 am tour and enjoyed being there before all the other groups arrived.
We were lucky with the weather. It was warm enough to hike the glacier and enter the ice cave in shirt sleeves. Although the time in the cave itself seemed too short when we were told it would only be 10 minutes, it was perfect for the size of the group. We all felt we had good experience. The glacier guide, Martin, was terrific. Very good at watching the group and making sure that people who had any trouble at all were up front with him and placing a capable group member at the rear. The only downside of the trip was the bus driver who rushed people at rest stops, shortened the length of time at the waterfalls, and seemed focused on getting us back to Reykjavik an hour early. Fortunately for you all, he is leaving soon to return to Greece.
Excellent, long day. Ice caves and waterfalls were beautiful. Make sure to bring water and snacks for the road trip.
Incredible experience. Already have highly recommended it to friends. Our tour guide was educational, helpful and playful- it was such a wonderful experience.
Our glacier guide Rami was great but other than that the company was bad. No WiFi as advertised. The vehicle that brought us to the glacier was broken down( and they knew it) so we barely made it back inhaling fumes the whole way. Our driver to Vik did not say one word to us about anything the 2 hours going and 2 hours back. Go with another company, not Arctic Adventures
The transfer driver and guide were very professional and great value. Hiking up the face of the Katla Glacier and walking into the ice caves was an amazing experience.
Great experience. Both the transfer driver and the glacier guide were very professional and informative.
Overall the tour was great but expensive. It was a long day! Organising the groups in Vik was not well organised so our bus passengers were mixed with others. Apparently South Coast Adventure, who organised the Ice Cave part of the tour, did not know that 4 of us were on a cruise ship so the time we returned to Vik and hence Reykjavik was critical. One super jeep had a puncture which delayed our departure from Vik by 1 hour. Our driver was superb and got us back in time to the ship but we had to miss a waterfall stop. The other passengers may have felt unhappy about missing that stop.
We booked through get your guide and the process was very easy. Our guide was humorous, knowledge, friendly and kept us informed every step of the way. We had booked a couple of other cave tours on the island and Katla in our opinion was the best, so if you're deciding between just 1 to visit. We would highly recommend Katla. Absolutely stunning, you cannot imagine how beautiful the area is, especially in snow. The cave itself is awe-inspiring and magical. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend Artic Adventures and Katla caves
This was a very well organised tour which delivered what was promised in the description. It was an unique and exciting experience. The glacier guide was very knowledgeable. Unfortunately one of the other all-terrain vehicles had a puncture, which delayed our return from Vik. We were worried about getting back to our ship, but the driver did a great job to return us on time and safely. Vojtek was also very informative, making the two hour drive more interesting. I would recommend this company.
Lili our guide was fabulous. She was kind, informative, and kept us on track so we got the best use of our time/tickets. Our ice cave tour was a once in a life memory that will be a highlight of our trip to Iceland. The waterfalls we stopped at were breathtaking as well.
Lili was a wonderful tour guide and driver. She was very friendly and welcoming. Frikki was our guide at the ice cave itself, and he was also very friendly and easy to chat with. He made sure no one felt rushed and took the time they needed for the climb. He made multiple stops where he waited for everyone to catch up while telling those around him facts about the glacier and volcano. I wouldn't hesitate to book with Arctic Adventures again if I'm ever able to visit Iceland again.
Excellent adventure. Wear warm water wicking clothes. The climb was a little difficult , a little scary but the scenery was amazing and worth it. Ale provided the safety gear and instructions. The ride over the terrain to get to the cave was fun. Franklin was funny, personable and provided a lot of cultural information, shared his knowledge and made the long drive comfortable
We had a terrible day. Our pick up was to be between 8 and 8:30. At 8:50 I contacted your office to be informed we had been moved to the 9am tour . No contact to tell us this so we then had waited 1 /3/4 in the rain for our pickup. Then the guide didn’t tell the truth and tried to blow us off. We had hired boots from you that he told us he knew nothing about so we would like a refund for those please. At about 11:30 I got a call from your office demanding to know where we were for our 11:30 tour .I tried to explain that I had no idea what she was talking about and that our tour was at 8 am and was moved to 9am to which she told me there was no 8am tour . I had to hang up. Anyway would not book another tour with Artic Adventures and would not recommend the company to anyone
Brilliant tour, interesting & stunning. Teenage son absolutely loved it
The best trip our family has done in Iceland - bar none! Yes, it is a very long day, but the tour guides (particularly Ale) make it absolutely amazing. Can’t recommend this highly enough! (I’ve uploaded photos my kid took of our tour guide Ale!)
Horrible company to book through, no flexibility whatsoever! Please find a different company to book with :)
We had a wonderful experience on the Katla Ice Caves and South Coast tour. Both of our drivers were excellent, professional, and made the day enjoyable from start to finish. A special shout-out to our driver who took us to the ice caves. He was incredibly kind, considerate, and knowledgeable. He provided us with great information and fascinating details throughout the tour, while always making sure everyone was comfortable and safe. He was especially attentive as we made our way up and down into the caves and throughout the entire experience. The Katla Ice Caves were truly remarkable, and this was one of the highlights of our trip to Iceland. It was a beautiful, exciting, and memorable experience for our entire family. We highly recommend this tour and especially appreciate the wonderful guides who helped make it so special!
It was excellent. It was the best experience of my life. The guide, the transfers, the organization were perfect. I loved it.
It is an amazing tour however the ride in the super hero can be rough due to the terrain and the hike up to get to the ocean cave can be challenging for older people. Totally worth it though. It was spectacular and I highly recommend it.
Awesome trip… special kudos to our guide Mabhas Day. He was extremely informative and happy to answer all questions.
The ice caves and waterfalls were beautiful. The ice caves are likely once in a lifetime opportunity.
I was booked twice and charged twice. Can I get a refund for one? Caves were awesome. Get lunch in Vic before going to the caves.
We did excursions in every port, and this was by far our favorite. From the super jeep, to the changes in landscape, to the ice cave itself. Just breathtaking
Bruno was a great tour guide! Very friendly and insightful!
Our guide from Artic Adventures was very personable and gave a commentary during the journey, however, due to road noise in the vehicle it wasn't always easy to hear what she was saying on the microphone. We enjoyed the visit to Skogafoss Waterfall, I didn't do the climb to the top, but my husband did and said it wasn't worth the climb. The view from ground level works well although it's a popular stop and there were many people, but if you are clever you can photograph the falls with the people in the distance without being too much of a distraction or remove in post processing later. In Vik we could use the restrooms and purchase any food/drinks ahead of our trip to Katla Ice Cave. At Vik we changed vehicles. Here we were a group of 14 people squeezed into a really old vehicle which wasn't at all comfortable for the 40 minute bumpy journey to the Cave each way. The driver spent the whole time chatting to the female guest in the front seat, where he could perhaps have been talking to the whole group about the area or at least sharing his discussion with us all, however, we were basically ignored for the whole 40 minute journey. On arrival his attention did turn to the group and from this point on he was very good. Unfortunately, when we arrived it was raining, but we put on our helmets and crampons and started the ascent up the volcanic ash and ice. It made for some great photos - all the black lava ash and ice. The hike wasn't overly difficult a little steep in places (especially for those of us that live in a flat terrain!). Finally we arrived at the Ice cave, there was already a group ahead of us so we waited outside with the guide talking to us about the area. Then we went into the 'blue' ice tunnel (not a cave - open both ends - don't be decieved by the photos)! It is 'Wow' but it is a tunnel and you are in a queue of 14 people, with a further 14 waiting to come in behind, so time is fairly limited. The guide offered to take photos of each of us whilst we were in the tunnel and did an excellent job of the photographs. Very happy with ours. Then you exit the beautiful blue tunnel and continue into another tunnel which has water flowing through it and you exit into an open area, where you can try with a pick axe to break the ice. Another discussion by the guide takes place here and then you go back through the blue ice tunnel and head back down. There is little time to take photos in the tunnels as you have people behind you. My husband loved the Katla Ice Cave part of the trip, thought it was brilliant. I feel more reserved about it. I thought the volcanic ash and glacier area was very photogenic, the ice cave I felt disappointed with. It felt like it was a very small part of the trip and yet the Katla Ice Cave as they call it is supposed to be the main element. I did like the blue part of the tunnel and that was a wow - but not enough time between groups, feels like they are just churning in the people without a thought for 'customer experience'. Back at the vehicle, off with the crampons and helmet and then back in the vehicle for another 40 minutes return journey to Vik. In Vik we swapped back to the Arctic Adventures vehicle and had time to visit restrooms and grab drinks or food before heading to Seljalandsfoss Waterfall (which we had actually visited on another tour the day before so we walked along the walkway to the other smaller waterfalls.). We then headed back to Reykjavik. Total tour time 11 hours. It was a long day to see very little really. Was it worth the money we paid for it - I don't think so, it was by far the most expensive trip we did. Would I recommend it ... I think what I'd say is read this commentary and decide for yourself ... if you want a photo of you in a blue ice tunnel - then yes do it - if you want to have some photos of some black volcanic ash/ice landscape then maybe ... if you want a value for money experience then probably not!
The waterfalls were beautiful and impressive. The ice cave was a very unique experience and we will likely never see anything like it in the future as it is ever changing. I would highly recommend this tour. Alex was our guide and he was great. He was very knowledgeable about the area and very accommodating.
Amazing South Coast tour! The waterfalls, black sand beach, Icelandic horses and landscapes were unforgettable. Our guide/driver was very kind and helpful throughout the day. He even helped me with shoes when I needed them, which I really appreciated. The whole trip was well organized, comfortable and enjoyable. Highly recommended!
One of the coolest things I have done. Great trip. The ice cave guy named Sylvester was humorous , nice, took pictures for us, looked out for our safety and was extremely handsome, no wonder the glaciers are melting, hot looking guides. LoL.. he told us interesting things about the volcano, the glacier, the ice and black sand beach. So far best thing I have done the first 3 days here in Iceland.
Fantastic. Scenic, amazing. Not a difficult hike for people , but you should be in some semblance of shape. Martin was the best guide we had of any tour, by far. And our driver, Axel was great also
We were fortunate to have Sylwester as our guide, he was funny, gave us useful information and was always giving us safety tips and instructions. The whole experience was unique, with riding in those huge trucls, visiting the black volcano site and of course the glacier itself!! Truly a unique experience! The group was small and had good vibes. The lenght of visit was well rationed. I wouldn't recommend it for very young children. I do feel that the admission fee could be lower. The distance from the meeting point, the equipement used etc does not really explain the high price, even for Icelandic pricing.
Getting to the super jeeps and back to Reykjavík, was well organized. We got to experience two great waterfalls and a black sand beach. But it was the getting to the glacier and the ice caves was the spectacular part of the tour. The guide was so good and you could really tell he worked so hard for me and my wife to get the most out of the experience. His efforts are greatly appreciated.
The Ketla ice caves definitely lived up to the hype.Hiking up the glacier will be one of my most memorable moments.. Both the bus tour guide and the guide showing us around the caves were amazing and very knowledgable at what they do!
Great experience, Kalta Cave was the highlight. The Kalta Cave was better than expected. Recommend this tour.
Such an amazing experience! Our tour guide was the best and we recommend this tour to everyone we know going to Iceland.
Our guide, driver, Alex was wonderful. We enjoyed this tour very much and would highly recommend. Wear proper hiking boots.
MUST DO TOUR. Once in a lifetime experience. Beautiful scenery. Iceland 🇮🇸 is a special Country...do this tour
Vert nice trip The all road part was very nice, it snowed the night before. The guide was very nice and kind. He took family pictures of all the persons in the group. A nice experience.
Excellent excursion. The glaciers were amazing. The ice cave itself was beautiful. Such an amazing experience. The guide himself was very attentive.
Wow just wow! This was the second tour we took with Artic Adventures and it did not disappoint. Our pickup went smoothly with Hjalti. On the way to Vik, we stopped by our first waterfall, Seljalandsfoss. We had ample time to explore, take pictures and even go behind the waterfall. We were careful and wore rain gear so we didn’t get too wet. At Vik, we got a little time to explore the black sand beach and grab a bite to eat before Helgi picked us up with the super jeep. It was a bumpy ride as we went off road but the nice weather made conditions optimal for us as the ride to the glacier was only 40 mins. Helgi was so funny and knowledgeable. We had some snowball fights and he allowed us time to take all the pictures. At the time we went, groups were small and minimal. It made the experience feel more special, like you have the whole place to yourself. We were on the glacier and cave for about and hour. The trail up to the cave is a little steep and for us it was slushy but the crampons and rope help. Helgi also made steps out of the ice for when things were too steep. After the Katla Cave tour, Hjalti drove us to Reynisfjara Beach which was really cool to see since earlier this year, it had been heavily damaged by waves. Hjalti was very calm as he explained how dangerous the beach is and how to stay safe, we stayed about 30 mins which was plenty of time to walk around and grab some good shots of the basalt columns. Our last attraction stop was to Skógafoss where we got 40 mins to explore. At this point, my friends and I were exhausted but we gathered our energy and walked all the way up the stairs to view the waterfall from above which took a little time since we were tired. We did get a little time to check out the waterfall from below too and a short bathroom break but we were a little rushed to get back to the van in the 40 mins. Normally, it seems that some of these stops are not on the official tour but Hjalti added them on since we had time. On our way back though, Hjalti realized that he had the wrong ending time for the tour and we actually didn’t have the time to stop at some of those. Ooops! We ended up getting back at Reykjavik at 9pm instead of 8pm. Since we were getting back late, Hjalti took us to get hotdogs for dinner and those slapped so hard. Helgi also met us there to return a beanie someone had left in the super jeep. Even though we were late, no one complained. How could you when the consequences are that you get to see all the waterfalls and eats hot dogs in Iceland. Overall this tour was one of the most unique and laid back adventures you can have. My body hurts but my heart and mind are at peace and happy. Remember to drink water and apply sunscreen!
