Really good ride, thank you! I'm an experienced rider & like to go riding wherever we are in the world, my family less experienced so the Lava Tour suited us as after first 15 mins it split into a slower / faster group. Hubby and the kids felt safe and enjoyed a relaxed stroll enjoying the view on their horses. My group got to do lots of tolt - which is harder to get the horse into correctly than I'd expected, takes some practise! The guides were knowledgeable and organised, and I liked the fact they took photos on our own phones, not trying to charge extra for buying pictures. My horse, Hrafn ("Rapp" or Raven) was lovely - nice and soft in the mouth and moved forward without needing kicking; although he was tiny he was definitely one of the nicest rides I've had on these kind of holiday treks. On which note, I was a little worried at first when I saw the stables (very small, seemed a bit dirty and 2 horses per pen) but upon talking to the guides and reading about the protocols, it actually makes good sense and Icelandic horses get VERY well looked after with time off inbetween rides / whole seasons off on vacation and lots of free space to roam - it was clear the guides knew the horses well and my little horse certainly seemed a very happy chap. His tack fit nicely too (and the saddle was comfy to ride in), so that's great. I would definitely do a much longer ride with them if I didn't have non-riders with me!

i don't usually write reviews, but i had a great time on this excursion! i was wondering what i could do my final day (my flight was in the afternoon and i didn't want to waste the morning) - this was the perfect option! it was extremely helpful having pickup/drop-off right in front of my hotel (i got back with plenty of time to catch the airport shuttle). mainly, the staff were all so kind and helpful. they were so accommodating and it was cool to learn more about the horses/history. as the only solo traveler, i felt included, and i was even asked if i wanted to try trotting away from the group with guidance from one of the instructors! made my tour feel extra special. my horse was lovely as well. i'm very glad i decided to do this; a great memory~

An absolutely must-do when visiting Iceland! Tour guides are extremely nice, knowledgeable, and understanding of each persons experiences and desires. Will most certainly be doing this again on my next visit!

We had a great time. Everyone was so nice and helpful. They split us up into two groups. Those that wanted to go faster and those that wanted to walk. My wife and I had a great time!

Amazing experience! From pick up in town to drop off, everything was just great! They supplied helmets and overalls( if needed). The staff gave a great safety/information briefing beforehand, then paired us with our ponies, with some time each to get to know the other. There were two groups, one for novice and the other for experienced riders that moves a little quicker. We took the novice for a slow leisurely ride among the lava fields and woods. And the guides were amazing as well! Each one was warm, friendly and welcoming! We would highly recommend this experience!

It was an amazing ride with the best guides ever! The facilities were very clean and well organized. The Icelandic horses were well taken care of and you can tell they are loved by the staff. The staff were warm and friendly. The helpful hints they gave were very useful. Their knowledge of the horses and the sights we saw were very informative. We took the faster pace and it was great to get the horse into a full gallop. The horses responded easily and were ready to run in a safe manner for us. I highly recommend this Company! You will not be disappointed.

This is a must do excursion. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed riding horses on the lava fields. The guided were very helpful and the horses were terrific. One of the best things we did during our stay on Iceland.

Overall, I had a very nice experience on today’s riding tour. As an experienced rider, I would have personally preferred a bit more active riding and a slightly faster pace, but the tour was still very successful. The weather was great, and the autumn colors (ruska) in the scenery were absolutely beautiful. Even though there were some less experienced riders ahead of us in the group, my horse responded obediently and performed a smooth tölt whenever I asked. Considering the overall price level, the tour offered great value for money and was a really lovely experience. Highly recommended!

Lovely day, professional and kind guides, lovely horses. Obvious that this was horses that got good care and that the wellbeing of the horses and our safety came first.

I completed this tour with a group of 3 other friends and the experience was excellent! One of the girls is a true horse lover and rides multiple times and weeks a year. Even though this is a trail ride she enjoyed it very much. We also had one friends afraid of horses, she was assigned a gentle horse and did great. After the ride we got to spend time with the horses in their pens. Lots of photos and petting. My horse loving friend was emotional and had the best time! The transfer to and from the city was smoothe, I would advise to be at the pickup spot 15 minutes ahead of the time assigned. Communication was great and the staff was friendly and wonderful!! I highly recommend this if you have the time.

The tour of the lava fields was so much fun and stunning! Beautiful views and the staff were all friendly. We had time before and after the tour for free tea, coffee, and hot chocolate in the building by the stables and were shown a very thorough safety video. The staff asked each of us about our riding experience before starting the tour and matched us with a horse accordingly. The guides were kind and we were able to split into two groups for the tour, one going at a slower walking pace and the other speeding up to a trot. Occasionally during the tour it was a bit hard to hear the guide we were with if we were at the back of the group but everything went smoothly and they were very attentive during the trip! I felt safe and comfortable the whole time. We stopped at one point where the guides could take photos of us on the horses (just on our phones, not an additional paid service) if we wanted which made for nice memorabilia. The pickup and dropoff for the tour from Reykjavík were timely. Overall would highly recommend this activity and Íshestar!

Amazing experience. The horses are beautiful so sweet smart and calm. I was hesitant at first but loved every second of it. Highly recommend it, even if you are not experienced riding horses. The horses are super sweet and calm.

We had a great time. The tour guides were knowledgeable and attentive. They really made sure we were comfortable on the horses. The area was beautiful and the trail was the perfect length for a good, satisfying ride. Also, we got lucky with the weather and didn’t need a hat or gloves.

They match the rider with the horse. So experienced riders get a seasoned horse! Loved riding through lava fields. Really easy to book. We highly recommend and had a blast.

I did the Landmannalaugar Adventure Tour, and it was truly the most wonderful experience of my life. The horses, breathtaking landscape, incredible guides and chef, accommodations, and the people I met were all one of a kind. It’s hard to even put into words how amazing the entire experience was. Riding through the Icelandic Highlands alongside the herd was absolutely magical and something I will never forget. This was truly the adventure of a lifetime!

This tour gives you the opportunity to be in a slow group and a fast group which was really cool and hasn't been an option of horseback riding tours i've been on elsewhere. The fast group allows you to try the icelandic horse trot which I eventually managed to go with my horse on our last attempt. What I liked about it was I didn't feel discouraged from joining the fast group despite being a beginner, but they were also very clear that you must have excellent balance and control of your horse to do so. It was responsible customer service. It took a while to get our group situated with a horse. It could probably be a faster and more efficient system with more guides but I also think it's on purpose since total riding time is only 1 hour. That's really my only feedback, longer riding time. The place was great, the briefing was the perfect intersection of succinct but thorough, facilities and gear were in good shape, and the horses are well trained and well cared for.

The highlight of my amazing time in Iceland! This fantastic outfitter near Reykjavik has great horses, a beautiful facility, and access to miles and miles of trails. This would be the dream place to come as a first-time rider. They put emphasis on animal welfare and pair every rider with a complimentary horse that is expertly trained and well cared for. I grew up riding horses and went on a Viking tour, which had an exciting amount of galloping, an experience I will never, ever forget. I can't recommend this outfitter enough and can't wait to book with them again.

A fun activity and great way to experience amazing terrain. All the horses were so great to see and ride, the guides were hospitable and knowledgeable, the ranch itself was beautiful, and it was reasonably priced for what we got! In fact, we did the combination tour with taking a small boat to see the puffins. Both something you won't see or do elsewhere, so worth it! It was great to have timely pick up in town for both so we didn't have to rent a car, made it super easy.

The ride gives a chance to take in the older lava friends and other scenery.

I’m an experienced rider and my husband and two boys have very little riding experience. Our guided ride was absolutely perfect for all of us. I did opt to split off with a faster riding group to experience the Icelandic Horse tölt which was a really fun experience. Their focus on safety, basic riding instruction, pairing riders with horses who were a good fit, and having guides spread throughout the group to support riders when needed was really wonderful. I had no concerns leaving my boys and husband in the care of the guides for them to stay with the less experienced riding group and we all had a lot of fun riding through beautiful scenery. The trail guides clearly have a lovely system they have refined over many years of experience doing guided trail rides. And the Icelandic horses lived up to their great reputation of being steady, kind, generous horses for people of all riding levels.

The tour was excellent in so many different ways: - The staff and guides were extremely helpful and very friendly all the way from beginning to end: - The facilities were very well kept and the climate was very friendly with detailed explanations on how to guide the horses and how to stay safe. - The information given was really interesting and the landscape was gorgeous. Was literally my favorite part of my Europe trip so far, our first time on a horse and they were such sweet creatures, from the host helping us with our transportation troubles to the ladies helping us learn to guide the horses for the first time were just the sweetest and most helpful humans ever. Definitely 10/10 recommend!

There is a slow pace and fast pace, we were a family ranging in age 7 to 73 so most of us used the slow pace. It is somewhat uncomfortable sitting in the saddle which was the complaint from all ages but it was a beautiful day and the guides were great!

We absolutely LOVED this experience! Truly one of our favorite things we’ve done in Iceland. From the very beginning, everyone at Íshestar was wonderful. When I was making the reservation, they were so responsive and helpful with my questions, and that same warmth carried right through to the day of our ride. I especially have to give a huge shoutout to our guides. They were SO friendly, kind, funny, patient, and just genuinely lovely people to spend a few hours with. They immediately made us feel welcome and comfortable, and you could tell how much they cared about the horses and about making sure everyone had a great experience. And the horses! ❤️ Getting to ride these beautiful Icelandic horses through that incredible landscape, in the rain no less, was just magical. We were wet, muddy, smiling, and having the best time. It felt like we were actually experiencing Iceland rather than just sightseeing in Iceland. This is one of those experiences I know we’ll talk about long after the trip is over. It was fantastic! The five young ladies that rode with us were really knowledgeable about the history of the area and of course experts with the horses. The horses are wonderful.

We had a wonderful experience with Stormy and Fluga. We went with quite a large group and each rider was accommodated with a suitable pony for their level. The guides who went with us were friendly and knowledgeable. The weather held out for us so it was a beautiful day for a ride. At the conclusion of the ride we were able to hang out with the ponies for scratches and phot ops. This was the highlight of our trip!
