The horses are gorgeous and the guides were so kind. It was a very easy trek with two kids. The horses know exactly what to do. You can relax and enjoy the scenery. It was one of the highlights of our trip. Highly recommend!
The listing allowed me to select my hotel for pickup, but then they emailed me the day of my tour to tell me that they cannot pick me up from the hotel and I had to go to a bus stop for my pick up. Also, drop off refused to drop me off at the original bus stop where I was picked up. The tour itself was pretty good. The horses appeared to be well cared for and happy. The tour guide talked a lot but I was too far back to hear what he was saying. I appreciated the availability of rain gear.
Great staff, wonderful horses, extremely accommodating, very friendly vibes. Highly HIGHLY recommend!
The owner was great with communication. They picked us up at our hotel. He was very friendly as was the rest of staff at Laxnes. The horses were gorgeous, friendly and fun to ride. Our guide was a pleasure to talk to. We would book the ride again and highly recommend Laxnes Icelandic Horseback Tour to everyone.
We had a great day riding with Laxnes. The family that runs this place is wonderful. The guides were patient as our riding experience is very limited. The horses were very nice to us. This was a great way to see the Icelandic scenery.
Definitely book with them. I was later coming in to Iceland than anticipated and was going to miss my planned trip they were incredibly kind and offered to move my excursion to later in the day. Pick up and drop off was very smooth. Everyone was very kind and helpful. The horses were beautiful and a great ride. The views were beautiful.
Nice walk through beautiful countryside. Went through 2 rivers, saw mountains and fields. Horses knew their jobs. Some horses were a bit frisky but nothing even the beginners couldn’t handle. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or let the leaders know if you’re not comfortable with something. The two young women leaders clearly love the horses and their job. The horses and the tack could use a little scrub and polish.
Couldn’t have been happier! Went on the classic day ride. The pickup in Reykjavík was seamless in spite of city maintenance moving the bus stop. Had great email communication with Laxnes farm about the pickup changes. At the farm they took the time to fit helmets and chose appropriate horses based on experience and skill levels. The ride was wonderful and the scenery breathtaking! When we got back from the ride there were fresh pastries and coffee. The owners of the farm were warm and welcoming. Definitely would recommend !
This established family run business does not disappoint!. They are very accommodating and calm with newcomers to their farm. Their horses look healthy and happy! I loved my horse. He was so sweet and fun.
Absolutely wonderful experience! Fantastic guides and adorable majestic horses. Having the opportunity to ride the tölt was a once in a lifetime experience that I'm so grateful to have had. Greatly enjoyed chatting with the owner on the way back to my hotel. Highly recommend this well managed family farm!
Excellent 2-hour trek on horseback in stunning scenery in the countryside outside of Reykjavik. This is a family-run business since 1968 and even the founder who must be in his 70s is still involved in the daily business, greeting customers and finding suitable horses for each rider. Staff is friendly and there is one girl riding up front and another girl riding in the back, making sure everyone is doing OK on their horse. This is a place to go to instead of the two competing businesses closer to town. Today was my second time at the farm and groups are smaller, which means it is not as crowded when you go for a horse trek. The weather was not the best but it was still a great experience. After the ride, they serve you a cup of hot coffee or tea, which helps you warm up. They have some merchandise on sale (t-shirts, scarves, caps) so you have something to remind you of your trip. The horses are out in big fields that are fenced in, but they are roaming free in a large herd, very much according to natural horse behaviour. In the typical Icelandic way, they are pulled straight out of the field, given a quick brush, and then tacked up. They might look a bit rugged because of the weather, but are all in good shape and are all happy and eager to work. Great experience and would recommend this to anyone. Best for any horsey person out there who is looking for a nice and smooth ride and fantastic scenery with a flowing river, mountains and fields, a waterfall and safe four-legged companions.
I appreciated that they asked about our experience levels and comfortability with horses. Everyone was so kind and welcoming. Our guides were great about giving us opportunities to go faster, and I noticed that they were great at ensuring less experienced riders were supported. The views were stunning! You won’t regret booking with them.
This was an absolutely wonderful experience start to finish! We opted for transportation from/return to the city, and pick up was less than a block from our hotel and right on time in a clearly marked van. We arrived at the stables and were greeted cheerfully by the staff. They took care to match up guests with horses based on experience and comfort level, and then tacked up the horses once we were paired for our ride. The ride and views were beautiful. (I forgot to start /stop watch at beginning and end but my estimate was about 5 miles that we rode.) It ended up being what we've been told is typical Icelandic weather, sunny, then rainy, then sunny again. We had a beautiful rainbow with the mix of rain and sun. Our guides were attentive and shared with us about Laxnes farm and their horses, and other Iceland tidbits. The horses knew the routine and were so sweet. They seem well taken care of, and we got to reward them with soft, delicious looking fresh bread after the ride! The staff sat with us afterward and we chatted for a while, which felt nice that they weren't rushing us to leave right after our ride. I would definitely book this again if I return, and highly recommend this experience to others!
Such a great day! Beautiful, well-cared-for horses and a stunning, scenic route. 🐴✨
Wonderful trail ride...sweet Icelandic horses... excellent for any skill level. The views were awe inspiring.
Daniel was a great guide and very knowledgeable about hunting for Northern Lights. We were lucky and found one spot to see the lights. They are certainly more prevalent starting in late September.
Fabulous, well worth twice the money. Great service, views, horses ,and all well taken care of.
This was such an amazing experience! It was raining in Reykjavik when the van picked me up (super easy pickup, the van is well marked with their name and driver was on time) but by the time we got to the horse farm, got suited up in our thick, waterproof gear that was provided it had stopped raining and we had a wonderful experience! The young guy who was our guide had so much knowledge and a lot of fun stories about the horses and what it was like growing up in Iceland working with the horses. The Icelandic horses were so wonderful, very sure footed and knew what their job was! Be sure you are able to physically mount and dismount without a mounting block. I had only ever ridden western style but Icelandic riding is kind of a mix between English and western styles so was easy to adjust. One person in my group had never ridden before and a couple of times she needed help so if you aren’t experienced, make sure to stay relaxed in the saddle, keep your heels away from the sides of your horse as you ride (or they may think you want to go faster!) and pull the reins towards you with both hands to stop. About halfway through you will get a break where you dismount in a field, let the horses graze a bit and take lots of beautiful pictures. My first day in Iceland I took this tour and it was the perfect start to my trip! Highly recommend!
My wife and I did this tour came from pick up to drop off. Everything was seamless and our guide guides were amazing. The horses were calm and gentle, and the scenery was breathtaking.
The horses at Laxnes Farm are friendly, beautiful and very healthy. The staff is kind and took us on a beautiful trail. I rode in the advanced group which was fun because we spent most of the time at the Tolt, which is very comfortable! I felt very safe the entire time. Highly recommend!!
I really enjoyed this excursion. The operator picked me up from a downtown bus stop for the ride out to the farm. They did a nice job of matching horses with rider experience and I ended up with a sweetheart of a horse. I'm a novice and I thought I might struggle, but once they helped me up, it was a lot of fun. The ride was longer than I expected, and went through some beautiful countryside. The escorts checked on everyone regularly during the ride. It would have been nice to learn more about the Icelandic horse breed, but the group was about a dozen people, so there wasn't much of a chance for that. I would recommend this excursion to anyone looking for a fun outdoor experience.
The staff is very helpful with both beginners and experts. The two hours walk was comfortable and featured beautiful scenery with green rolling hills and a farm in the distance. The day I went was very cold, rainy, and windy (late Aug). I recommend wearing a warm woolen base layer underneath a rain jacket and water resilient gloves. The farm issues water proof pants. They served hot beverages afterwards. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience.
They provide pickup/dropoff. Horses are well mannered & look well cared for. Trail ride is through beautiful scenery to a waterfall & back - about 90 minutes. Geared to riders, non riders with excellent attention to safety & no need for riding gear. Helmet provided. It was such a treat to ride one of these extraordinary horses, & outfitters made sure we had the best possible experience.
Even though it takes 3 hours, the ride is much less time. Three hours is mostly pick up and drop off.
Absolute one of the best experiences you could do in Iceland. The staff here is wonderful and very accommodating. We had absolutely a blast. I would do it again for sure.
The family that runs it is wonderful. The horses are so beautiful and have interesting names and personalities. We were properly fitted for head gear and shown how to get on and off the horse. The guides made sure saddles, reins and stirrups were fitted correctly and taught us how to tell the horse where we want to go. The guides are all wonderful, helping us all through the ride. It was an amazing experience!
The Laxnes farm is very impressive! The pickup was convenient and the drive was not long. The farm is situated in a scenic area. The horses are lovely! Do go and see all the photos inside afterwards!
It was a family owned horse farm and the owners take great pride in the customers’ experience. It was my favorite tour in Iceland!
This was a great trip. We had a wide range of riding experience and they were able To accommodate us all! The normal ride is Was perfect for the inexperienced riders and if you have the skill, definitely do the advanced. It was very forward and you really get to experience Tolting!
The staff/family at the farm are super friendly and helpful! The ride does not include any discussion/tour guide type interaction. It was super quiet, with beautiful scenery.
My daughter and I had a fantastic time on this riding tour. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone riders or non-riders alike. All of the horses are so well cared for and kind, which always makes things better for the riders. The group was separated into a beginner and advanced group, which afforded everyone the chance to ride at the level they are comfortable with. We went with the advanced group and had a great time learning to Tolt and was given plenty of opportunity to practice that along paths with beautiful scenery. The pick up and drop off in Reykjavik was so easy and timely. And the communication with Laxnes was great - they responded to all of our pre trip questions quickly so we knew exactly what to expect. I would not hesitate to recommend Laxnes to anyone coming to Iceland who wants to experience the magnificent Icelandic horse.
Unbelievable landscape - family owned three generations the love and pride is palpable the horses were all so well behaved and easy to ride Would definitely book this again if I had the chance
I loved my horse and found riding the Icelandic horses to be really fun and easy, but I’ve ridden many times before. There was a woman in our group who had never been on a horse before and she wasn’t able to control her horse. Her horse was upset because his girlfriend was left back in the barn and he did not want to go anywhere and the woman was scared. We had to speak to the guides on her behalf to get them to take her reins and guide her along. I felt the guides should have taken her more seriously and helped her sooner without us intervening. If you’ve never been on a horse before, emphasize that you need a gentle, easy horse, otherwise it was a great experience.
Such a fun family experience! The staff was very friendly and the scenery is unmatched! Highly recommend
Easy for everyone Lovely people and Amazing horses It was a childhood dream that I realized and loved it
Very well organized and I liked that they picked us up at the hotel. Very low stress. I had not been on a horse in many years but I felt safe and well looked after. The scenery was beautiful. Very friendly staff that gave clear instructions.
The weather was perfect so that was a plus. The people were so nice and helpful. Our pickup was right on time. It was a very relaxing ride. I’m not an experienced rider and it wasn’t a problem
Great excursion on a cruise port day in Reykjavik! The farm was gracious enough to accommodate a last minute change on our pick up and drop. The staff at the farm were extremely helpful in determining each rider’s comfort and experience and paring horses accordingly. The horses were great and the trails were beautiful, we enjoyed the scenery. Would highly recommend.
Friendly & helpful staff. It was very windy so a jacket and windbreaker is recommended. Horses were well-behaved
We all really thought it was a very fine experience. At first I was kind of scared but once the guides told me a few basics it felt great. The horses were calm and usually listened, and it was a pretty nice ride with a great view of a lot of mountains.
A wonderful experience from beginning to end! This is a family-owned business that truly goes above and beyond for its guests. I was picked up directly from the cruise ship terminal and taken to the farm, where the entire staff welcomed us with genuine warmth and hospitality. The ride was fantastic, and it was clear they genuinely care about making sure everyone has a great time. After the tour, I needed transportation to my hotel instead of returning to the cruise ship. The owner drove me to my hotel without hesitation, which was incredibly accommodating. I highly recommend this excursion to anyone looking for a memorable experience with outstanding customer service. You won't be disappointed!
They are very concerned about safety. It was also great that they split the group up towards the end of the ride so that the more experienced riders could trot.
The countryside was beautiful, horses were amazing and the staff at Laxnes couldn’t be better. My horse Casper and my husband’s horse Gia were very sweet.
This was a must do on our trip and it didn't disappoint us. The pickup form Reykjavik was seamless. It's about a 20 min drive to the horse farm. The horses were well cared for and well mannered. The guides were friendly and informative about these special horses. The extra gaits and the genetic trait that creates them was fascinating. The trail was out and back and a small group of people who could ride got to trot back.
Friendly family and personalized experience. They try to match your experience to the horse. There were 7 people in my group and we got lucky with the weather and got about 2 full hours of riding time enjoying the beautiful Iceland landscape. I had hotel pick up and the process was very easy, good with communication.
All the staff was amazing! The horses were beautiful, the guides great and overall it is a great experience. Highly recommend this!
The gentlest horses I’ve ever seen. Assistance is provided in mounting should you need. Ride nose-to-tail through Icelandic meadows for what seemed like a couple of hours. The guides in attendance on my ride were always watching for anything amiss. The saddles are of a particular (Icelandic?) style which will keep you seated properly on your horse. A beautiful experience. You should know however that the experience does not include much more than a walk or a trot, just as with most horse breeds. There is no demonstration, or exercise in which you will get to experience either by exhibition or personally the renowned 5 gaits of the Icelandic horse. This is a simple, beautiful, calm and peaceful ride through the Icelandic countryside on beautiful, well mannered horses.
A great family owned farm where you can feel the love and care they have for their horses. The pickup and drop off was a helpful plus!
Horses were very safe. Staff was friendly. They picked us up at our hotel. We had a great time seeing all the beautiful landscape on horseback. Highly recommend this tour if you are a beginner rider as we only walked. They do offer more experienced riders a different ride.
