If pick up is needed, we need a pick up location in Reykjavik city, pick up is 30 min prior to the starting time of the tour, at the stable we give our guests helmets and have a short riding lesson, on how to communicate with our horses.. then we match each person with a horse suitable for their level, and then we go out for 1 hour riding in the saddle, after the ride we offer, tea, coffee, hot chocolate , and share photos from the tour, then we drop the guests off, total duration is about 3 hours from pick up to drop off.

Riding with Viking Horses was a highlight of our trip! We are experienced riders but were looking for a slow and easy ride with the opportunity to tolt. My preference was to book with a smaller family-feel stable. Viking Horses delivered on both! Kate was an excellent guide and happy to cater to whatever we wanted. She did a great job of taking pictures and videos along the ride so that we could just be in the moment. The horses were all very well behaved and people oriented. We were given multiple opportunities to tolt, and I was pleasantly surprised with how comfortable it was! I came away from the ride with a clear understanding of why these Icelandic horses are so well loved. The scenery during the ride was beautiful and we were given warm drinks and a snack when we returned back to the stable. I booked directly through email with Viggo and had the chance to meet him in person after our ride. He is just as friendly in person as he is to deal with over the computer. I highly recommend booking with them!
The host greeted me by name at my hotel. He was funny and kind. After arriving at the stables they were gracious enough to have some extra things, gloves / sweaters. Our guides were great, fun and informative conversation on the trail. It was such a joy to be able to ride such beautiful animals, and enjoy the nature. When we returned to barn we enjoyed coffee and hot cocoa. Pet the horses and gave them special treats. I’m so happy to be able to have experienced a little bit of the Icelandic wild. Great time and gracious hosts!
We had the perfect day thanks to Viking Horses. We were picked up at our hotel. The 3 of us were beginners with varying degrees of comfort around horses. The staff were all very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, and made everyone feel safe and relaxed. They took pictures of everyone with their group or alone, as appropriate, which they shared with us back at the barn. The scenery was fantastic, too!! After the ride, we were offered refreshments (hot cocoa and a snack for me!), and we were given a ride either back to the hotel or wherever our next adventure was. We were driven to Sky Lagoon (we purchased those tickets as a package with Viking Horses, but my friend made the reservation, so I don't have the details for that). I would highly recommend going riding with them. Our total group was small - maybe about 12 people. It was such a fun day!

Absolutely amazing experience! This was my first time horseback riding, and I had so much fun. Kate and Market were incredibly helpful, friendly, and made me feel comfortable the whole time. Riding the Icelandic horses in the rain actually made the experience even more fun and memorable. Definitely one of the highlights of our Iceland trip! Highly recommend Viking Horses! 🐴🇮🇸🌧️
We had a great time. Neither of us have much experience with horses, and we felt welcomed and taken care of. The staff is super friendly, and the horses are treated very well. We drove in our own rental car, and the location was easy to access from Reykjavik. The activities were adjusted for the skill level of the rider, with some riders having the option to go faster if they had enough experience and comfort. Would recommend Viking Horses to anyone looking to get the opportunity to spend time with these beautiful animals.
I had a private ride with Viking Horses employee, Marketa. I had an incredibly wonderful ride. Marketa picked me up at my hotel and the ride went by quickly as she is very friendly and easy to talk with. Marketa gave me the ride I have always dreamed of on an Icelandic horse. We both enjoyed the ride immensely and the Tolt was everything I'd hoped it would be!!! Marketa gave easy to follow instructions on what to expect and after a short amount of time in the walk, off we went doing the Tolt, and we even cantered. I have been riding horses for a long time so she based the ride on my riding ability. Marketa took many videos of me riding and shared them with me at the end of the ride. Before Marketa took me back to my hotel, I met the owner, Viggo, and he was also very friendly and welcoming. They take great care of the horses and give adequate time off and don't overwork the horses. I would highly recommend a private ride with Viking Horses if are an advanced rider. You will Not be disappointed. This was, by far, the best riding experience I've ever had. Julie H.

My daughters and I are riders, and we enjoyed a fabulous ride on well-trained, fun Iceland horses. Viggo and his staff run an excellent operation, and our guide was fun and knowledgeable. We learned to tölt, and got to gallop through the beautiful countryside. Highly recommend!
We had a great experience on our riding tour! I'm an experienced rider but my friend that I was traveling with is not. This tour was a great balance between our riding levels and we both had a great time. Additionally, the areas we rode through were absolutely stunning and offered landscapes we didn't see during the rest of our trip. I would absolutely book this tour again. I enjoyed the most amazing ride with Viking Horses! My horse was very gentle and surefooted. The guides were kind and supportive to all members of our small group, regardless of riding experience. The entire experience was safe, enabling me to enjoy the beauty of Iceland and the thrill of the tölt. I highly recommend.
My sister and I had a wonderful time one our Viking Iceland horse ride. My sister is not a rider and they matched her to a wonderful horse that took good care of her. I got a little mare with big personality. She was great! She came into frame when I asked, leg yielded around turns on the trail and had amazing gaits. She was eager to work and please me, which she did! This tour is great for experienced riders and non riders alike. And the red lava and forest scenery is gorgeous!
Great experience w/ Icelandic horses! The staff selected horses perfect for rider’s ability. They also allowed more experienced riders to canter at the end of the 2 hr ride. The leader took photos of each group & sent to us. They picked us up at our hotel which was really a bonus as I wouldn’t have been able to get out w/o renting a car. Highly recommend if you want a riding experience
An absolutely perfect experience from start to finish! The Icelandic horses were gorgeous, calm, and well-trained, making the ride feel completely safe and enjoyable. Riding through the breathtaking volcanic landscapes and lush forest areas was unforgettable, and experiencing their unique, smooth gait—the tölt—was a true highlight. Afterwards, the transfer to Sky Lagoon was seamless, and soaking there was the ultimate way to relax and wrap up the adventure. Highly recommended!
As a lifelong equine professional and someone who guided trail rides in their youth, I wanted an experience that fit my skill level! Viggo as kind and put up with my many inquiries beforehand. We settled on a one hour private ride with pickup from Reykjavík and added a Skye Lagoon package for myself & mother. My guide MH was excellent and fun to ride with!
Ania was a wonderful guide. The horses were beautiful and we had a great horse ride for our family of four. Two of us were done by end but the other two wanted to go faster so she took them out for some faster tolting. This was expensive but truly worth it!
What a great time. They picked us up at the hotel downtown which was nice and it was a short ride to the stables. The guides were great and made sure everyone was comfortable. Definitely something we would do again.
I didn't want to leave Iceland without riding an Icelandic horse, so this was a great 1.5 hour morning trail ride before my afternoon flight. The horses were well behaved and super affectionate. My horse, Nota, was so cool because she was always ready for a tolt. I liked that Viking was able to pick me up and drop me off from my specified location. That was very convenient because I didn't have to worry about finding the place, which was only 20 minutes from Reykjavik. The guides were very nice and they they took us to beautiful trails. They also, took photos and sent them to us through WhatsApp. I highly recommend this experience if you are in Iceland.
