We sadly couldn’t do the ice cave portion due to safety concerns but the snowmobile ride was FANTASTIC! the monster truck ride out to base camp went through moonscape. The tour was very full so my husband and I sat in the cab of the truck and had unobstructed views which felt very VIP! We did a tandem ride and he drove the first half and then I drove the second half. They have all the gear you need which is nice. I will say I would have struggled driving the whole time as I have small hands and it requiring constant pressure to engage the throttle and turning the snowmobile at low speeds can be difficult. 10/10 recommend.

Itinerary
Your adventure begins at Gullfoss Café, next to the iconic Gullfoss Waterfall—one of Iceland’s most breathtaking natural landmarks. This powerful two-tiered waterfall plunges 32 meters (105 feet) into a rugged canyon and serves as the perfect backdrop to start your glacier journey. Meet your guides at the Mountaineers of Iceland sign in the parking lot, where you’ll board a specially modified Super Truck for the ride into the highlands.
From Gullfoss, your Super Truck journey takes you deep into Iceland’s rugged interior, toward the Geldingafell mountain area. The ride lasts 35–60 minutes, depending on road and weather conditions, and offers stunning views of volcanic landscapes and snow-covered plains. This off-road trek is part of the adventure, an exciting preview of the glacier experience ahead.
At the Langjökull Glacier base camp, you'll gear up with warm snowsuits, helmets, gloves, and boots before receiving a full safety briefing and snowmobile instructions. Once you're ready, hop on your snowmobile and begin a thrilling one-hour ride across Iceland’s second-largest glacier. Depending on visibility and weather, you’ll stop for photos and take in views of icy plateaus and volcanic peaks. The highlight of the tour is a visit to a naturally formed ice cave, recently discovered and made safely accessible with a custom-built entrance. Step into a mesmerizing world of blue crystal ice and unique formations shaped over centuries by glacial forces. After exploring the cave, you'll return by snowmobile to the base camp, then ride back through the highlands to Gullfoss.

Thor was a great tour guide he was funny, friendly, and knowledgeable. Overall experience was also super fun!! Highly recommend!!!
What an amazing experience!! Easy to find at gulfoss waterfall parking lot - about 1 hour ride to place where you grab your gear - suit - mittens and helmet Beautiful day out on the glacier!! Thank you for so much fun!!
Good fun up on glacier. Cave part not open (usual apparently??) so do not book and pay for that part. Non involving guides, but still a great experience.
Amazing experience from start to finish! Everything was very well organized. The snowmobile activity was amazing! A big thank you to Thor, who was very friendly and explained everything clearly throughout the excursion. The view of the glacier as well as the ice cave were absolutely stunning and fascinating. The scenery is definitely worth seeing! I highly recommend this activity!
great experience! If you’ve never snowmobiled before, it’s a bit intense for a rookie. I quickly learned I wasn’t cut out to drive solo so ditched my snowmobile and rode on the back of our guides and still got to enjoy the views. Raymond was awesome!!!
There was no ice cave. We were charged extra for an experience we didn't get. We should have been charged for the regular snowmobiling tour. The other guests said the same thing.
Had a great time with Edgar. Tour was awesome
Our guide was fantastic! The walk to the caves took about 15 minutes. The cave in the pictures is no longer open (closed in December 2025), but they showed us others.
I packed a lot of unnecessary clothing for my trip to Iceland. They provided a very warm snow suit, helmet, gloves and boot covers. Half of what I packed was unnecessary for this adventure.
An extemely well organised tour. All relevant warm weather gear supplied. My partner had a slight issue with safety briefings not been adhered to but after letting our main guide Edgar know things were quickly and satisfactorily sorted. Would highly recommend.
Outstanding experience. Wish we got to ride more on the snowmobile. The snow was soft and powdery. You could def go fast up to 45km at one time, but you have to follow the line.
Edgar is good and friendly, helpful and accommodating. Definitely worth it. Would recommend to anyone. All gear is provided and good
It was an amazing experience. The entire tour was planned perfectly and the view on the mountain was stunning. I recommend everyone to book this tour if your visiting Iceland!
Loved the experience definitely rolled over the snowmobile multiple times and probably annoyed the guide overall 10/10
Amazing experience, I highly recommended doing this on your trip! Staff are friendly and Edgar was an excellent host! Our other host for the Ice cave was also very good! A young man with a red and black snow suit (didn’t get his name!) thanks so much!
Snowmobiling across a glacier is an awesome experience. It was beautiful and incredulous all at the same time. I was a little sad that we were notified a few days before that the ice cave portion of the adventure was not accessible. I was really looking forward to that. Either way…. Amazing adventure in the land of fire and ice!
Dope dope dope experience. And the drinks were really good. And the customer service was excellent!!
I don't usually write reviews, but now I think our experience is worth sharing to improve the offers! I took a family trip 2 adults + 2 children (16 y + 10 y) with snowmobiling and visiting the ice cave. You have to be very careful when booking, because it doesn't mention that you need at least 2 valid licenses! In addition, for those like me who have a more fearful wife, please ask her if she wants to drive, before making the reservation and don't get angry on the spot. The experience is sensational and the guides are very professional! But I'll be back, there were a few ladies who got scared and made it difficult to move or did it very slowly! For those who want speed and new experiences on glaciers, take a private tour! DO NOT drive the snowmobile alone, because if you have people who go slower....the whole group will go at their own pace!!!! Coming back, the experience is worth it!!! Unfortunately, the ice cave trip was canceled...they refunded us part of the money, but I think it was too little (out of 700 euros for the trip, only 100). Otherwise, the experience is worth it!!!
My daughter and I started out tipping the snowmobile over, then I started driving but was going too slowly. The guides were very kind though, and in the end my daughter and I each wound up getting taken to the ice cave by a guide. My son was doing it himself and had a fabulous time. It requires a surprising amount of upper body strength! Maybe because it was May and conditions were a bit slushy/icy, or with two of us too much weight. The ice cave was really incredible! Overall we had a great time despite our snowmobile ineptitude, and the guides were all very kind and helpful.
Learned to ride a snowmobile, Oliver made it fun, small group was great, life time memory, would recommend to a friend, warm gear was great
Amazing!!!! Highly recommend as a way to get to the glacier. The snowmobiles are great fun. The ice cave isn’t much (just a hallway cut into the side of the glacier) but the rest was awesome.
I purchased the ice cave and snowmobile and was not told the ice cave was not possible. I would appreciate a refund.
Ice cave tour was canceled way before we booked the tour but we were not informed about that. The snowmobile piece is super cool, but not easy at all. You need to be strong to hand it. The view from the top of the mountain is breathtaking!
This was an amazing trip for me and my family. Although the whether was pretty rough, it was still a great experience. We got around 30 minutes each driving (1 person on ride out, 1 on return) which felt like plenty of time. Ice cave wasn’t mentioned so if this is a massive selling point for you there may be other options, however we enjoyed so much we forgot this was part of it ahah. It’s a 45 minute drive to the bast camp in a super jeep which was a cool extra!
Unfortunately the ice cave was closed and so this tour only became the snowmobile portion. The big bus that takes you out got stuck a few times but finally we did make it up to the snowmobile area. It was very cold so if you are planning on doing this in the winter, definitely dress very warm, they also provided a snowsuit which also helps, but having your own balaclava would help as well.
Did not get to see the ice cave. Was disappointing but understandable. Did not seem that our time was extended since we didn’t get to do the ice cave. On the contrary we actually felt more rushed for time than anything. The ride itself and time for pictures was fun. The guides were helpful and nice
Great time. Kris was a great guide the entire staff was friendly and everything organized. We did the ice cave. It was amazing to be in the glacier.
Great staff, good coordination and phenomenal scenery. We had a blast. And would highly recommend this excursion for anyone looking for a once in a lifetime experience.
The drive to the glacier was very bumpy and took quite a bit of time. Once we were there we geared up and the snow gear (included) kept us super warm! They gave snowmobile instructions outdoors where it was cold and very breezy so it was hard to hear. Wish they did some of that indoors because we missed some very important details We had to follow the group when snowmobiling for safety reasons so we weren’t free to do our own thing, but still fun. It was a littler short though, and a little pricey for what we got. The ice cave was closed which was a bummer but they gave us a refund on that portion.
Staff was incredibly helpful and impressive! Snowmobiling was such an incredible experience; it made up for the ice cave. The ice cave is man-made and not exactly what I was expecting, but I still 100% recommend this tour!
This was an excellent adventure. Gorgeous scenery, the ice cave was good, not natural but man-made. But it was still super cool to see. My husband and I took our 4 boys. Ages 7-17 and they all absolutely loved it.
Unfortunately, the tour wasn't really what we expected and I wouldn't recommend it if you are expecting a natural ice cave. As many people have written before, it takes quite long to go to the basecamp (70-80min) one trip and the tour as such is quite short. In the tour description we got it wasn't clear that the ice cave is artifical / man-made - so that was underwhelming. However, our tour started and finished on time and the staff was really friendly and helpful. Due to the size of the group, everything took quite long, the overall Snowmobile driving experience was therefore quite short. We were lucky as our group to the ice cave was small and more agile. Overall, I think it is overpriced for what is offered.
We booked the tour with the timing 2pm-6pm. We did not depart the pick up area until 2:45pm and returned at 7:30pm! There are more than 50 people in a group! Everything takes forever. You snowmobile in a slow line and then go in an ice cave that is not worth seeing at all. DO NOT RECOMMEND!
No fuss, friendly staff, transported and kitted up then straight on the snowmobiles. There was no long winded safety brief, just to the point and let's go! The heated handle bar grips were an unexpected bonus. The ice cave was basic but interesting at the same time. We had our 10 year old with us and would highly recommend this trip.
1st, tour pick up was over 1 hour late after telling me someone would be there in 10 minutes. We could have explored the fall instead of waiting in the parking lot. 2nd, we were packed like cattle into a truck. It was over an hour ride to get to the ice cave and snowmobile excursion. 3rd, no ice cave tour and did a quick slow ride in a loop over old snowmobile tracks. Not the small group excursion we expected. I was told in their mind a small group was 60 people or so. If you have never experienced snow or snowmobiling then this may suit otherwise stay away from this place. Focus seems to be more on headcount to make money rather than a great customer experience.
After an hour long ride to the base camp with no guide explaining the surroundings, we finally arrived to get in our snowsuits and go snowmobiling. We were only given one snowmobile even though we thought we would each have one. The snowmobiling only lasted about 45 minutes. So expensive for such a short time and for sharing a snowmobile. My main reason for booking was to see the ice cave. No mention of the ice cave was given to us at any time. Once we returned to Gullfoss, I inquired and was told we didn’t have time to see it. Extremely disappointed!
Snow mobiling was fun itself but noticed the staff were really mardy and rude with people who made mistakes when learning how to snow mobile, I don’t know why you’d work in this job if you’re going to have such little patience for tourists who are obviously going to make these mistakes. Made the experience difficult to enjoy. Drove the snow mobiles for 30 min, 10 min break, 30 min drive back and then ushered back on the bus and back to the drop off. Absolutely no sign of an ‘ice cave’ which is 50% of the reason we booked, asked and was told not today..
Unbelievably expensive for what is essentially a 45 minute snowmobile experience. You’ll spend approx 15 minutes standing around a very small and underwhelming cave. You will need to share your snowmobile, which is completely outrageous given the price you pay AND that they just simply do not make that clear when booking. Personally, I do not think it was worth it and feel a little cheated.
The snow mobile was excellent but the ice cave was dreadful and the other group who didn’t pay to see the cave were able to drive around on the snow mobile instead.
Would I recommend the ice cave? No. We both agreed it would be nice to see the ice cave but it was more of a dark tunnel lit up by some torches on the outside. Quite underwhelming considering the price difference and if I were to turn back time I’d have definitely either just booked the snowmobiles and saved my money or have spent it on the secret lagoon. The snowmobiling itself had potential to be amazing but unfortunately our group spent a lot of time tipping over so we feel like the tour was cut short due to it getting dark and the amount of time we spent at a standstill picking people up. We both agreed it would’ve been better to have had smaller groups as our group seemed to just go to the cave which really wouldn’t have taken even a third of the time it took due to other people toppling their motors. The views and scenery made up for it but we felt it was a shame we couldnt get further than 300m without the group being stopped to pick someone up. It got to the point even the guide looked a bit pissed. I think overall, it is an amazing feeling to venture onto the Glacier and it’s something that I won’t be forgetting in a hurry but could’ve been made a lot better with something just as simple as smaller groups so you can get a better run out. We were fortunate to have nice weather and clear skies, even saw the northern lights on the way back. The sunset we saw up there on the glacier was just phenomenal
Was a great experience, trip up to base camp could have been better if bus windows were clean and you could see out off them. Equipment and overalls all in good shape, but when up getting snowmobile we were only given 1 per 2 adults, so we had to share. We both paid the full amount when others got 1 snowmobile to themselves which we feel was unfair. All staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Defo worth doing just very expensive when having to share.
First time snowmobiling. The scenery was insane beautiful. The snowmobile was easy to operate. We took our kids with us, they were so happy. You can bring your camera, but it’s best to have hand free since you will need your hands for the driving. Watch the puddles in the ice cave and bring warm shoes. They provide everything else.
Quite disappointed. The actual time spent driving of the snowmobile seemed very short, although you wouldn't really want any longer as it's really hard work, you are constantly fighting with the handle bars. Taken on a trail that was already well used and quite bumpy. I expected to zoom across virgin flat snow, so this was a huge disappointment. The snow cave is man made, but was still very interesting, clear see through ice and you can see the lines that make up each year of growth, like the circles in a tree trunk. I'm glad I have driven a snowmobile, but it's quite expensive and definitely wouldn't do it again or recommend.
Nov 2023- I was nervous bc of the mixed reviews. We went at 14:00 and it was the best time, roughly 3 hours roundtrip! I touched a glacier, went into a ice cave, and rode a snowmobile for the first time. There were about 18 people on 10 machines. I'm a 3XL and had no issues with the gloves or body suit. Call or message ahead to see how many people are going to be in your trip if you are concerned about the size of the group.
Had a great time!!! None of us had ever been on a snowmobile before and it was very simple to operate them! Gear was great and we felt really warm! Sniper was our guide and he was knowledgeable, informative, and patient.
This was a great experience. However the ice cave was small dirty and man made not anything like what I imagined. If you want to see the blue natural tunnels book a different tour. Would still recommend the snow mobiling but would have been more fun if we rode longer and we didn’t even see the cave. All around felt well taken care of and had a good time.
Fun experience. Short drive for the $$$. Well organized and equipment given is suitable for the temperature and ruggedness of the snow mobile. Ice cave isn’t ground breaking experience.
The trip overall was well run with nice people. Felt a bit cheated/underwhelmed at ice "cave", read man made tunnel. Very short and dark, was the 1st day open and had been subject to a collapse. I must remember that we were actually inside a glacier and that should be amazing enough but it wasn't pretty and my snowmobile broke down, but no great shakes as shared with Mrs C. The scenery on the ride up was amazing.
My honey and I really enjoyed this adventure. We didn't get to go to the cave since it was warm but got an extra 30 minutes snowmobiling which was awesome. Beautiful.
