Itinerary
We depart from Reykjavík and begin our scenic drive along the South Coast towards Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon.
Eyjafjallajökull is one of Iceland’s most famous volcanoes, best known for its 2010 eruption that disrupted air travel across Europe. This glacier-capped stratovolcano offers a striking view, with ice and fire coexisting in one dramatic landscape. Its name comes from the Icelandic words for “island mountain glacier,” perfectly describing its powerful presence.
Skógafoss is one of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls, cascading 60 meters from the cliffs of the southern coastline along the Skógá River. Its powerful mist often creates vivid rainbows, making it a favorite among photographers and travelers alike. According to local legend, a Viking treasure is hidden behind the falls, adding a touch of mystery to its breathtaking beauty.
Take a relaxing lunch break in the quiet village of Freysnes, surrounded by stunning views of Iceland’s southern mountains and glaciers. It’s the perfect spot to recharge before continuing your adventure.
Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, located near Skaftafell in southeastern Iceland, is a breathtaking sight where shimmering blue waters are filled with drifting icebergs from the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier. Spanning 18 square kilometers and reaching depths over 248 meters, this glacial lake offers a serene, otherworldly experience that captures the raw beauty of Icelandic nature.
Diamond Beach is a striking black-sand shoreline where glistening icebergs from Jökulsárlón Lagoon wash ashore, creating a dramatic contrast of sparkling ice against dark volcanic sand. This natural spectacle offers one of Iceland’s most photogenic and unforgettable coastal views.
Vík is a picturesque coastal village on Iceland’s south coast, renowned for its black sand beaches and striking basalt sea stacks. Enjoy a relaxing dinner break here, where you can savor a meal while soaking in the dramatic natural scenery and small-town charm.
Seljalandsfoss is one of Iceland’s most unique waterfalls, famous for the path that allows visitors to walk behind its cascading curtain of water. Framed by a natural cave-like alcove, this enchanting waterfall is especially magical during Iceland’s long summer days when it's bathed in golden light.
Take a short break in the charming town of Hvolsvöllur to stretch your legs and refresh before the journey continues to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon.
After a long and memorable day exploring the South Coast and Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, we return to Reykjavík. Hotel drop-off begins upon arrival, and your guide will provide further information during the drop-off process.

Great set of excursions with guide Mikki! Diamond beach and Glacier lagoon were the clear favorites. We would have preferred seeing Seljalandsfoss during the daytime - while there were some lights in front of the waterfall, there weren’t behind it, and it felt unsafe to walk behind the falls in the dark. The bus itself had some kinks with temperature control.
The Jökulsárlón and Diamond Beach tour was easily one of the highlights of my trip to Iceland. Seeing the glacier lagoon in person was breathtaking: huge icebergs in every shade of blue drifting quietly across the water, with the glacier stretching out behind them. Then just across the road, Diamond Beach was something else, with chunks of crystal-clear ice scattered across the black sand and sparkling as the waves rolled in. Photos honestly don't do either place justice. A big part of what made the day so special was our guide, Mikky. Mikky was knowledgeable, funny and genuinely passionate about Iceland, and shared great stories about the glaciers, the landscape and local life along the way. The drive flew by, and we always had plenty of time at each stop to explore and take photos. You could tell Mikky really cared that everyone had a great experience. If you're visiting Iceland, don't skip this tour, and if you can, ask for Mikky as your guide. Highly recommended!
One of the unforgettable experiences, Our tour guide Mikkel was so Friendly and helpful for all the journey
What an absolutely incredible experience! Our Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach Day Tour with Reykjavík Excursions was undoubtedly one of the highlights of our Iceland trip. From breathtaking waterfalls to floating icebergs and dramatic landscapes, this tour was worth every minute! 🌊 Breathtaking Waterfalls: Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss Two of the most spectacular stops were the magnificent Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls. Both were absolutely breathtaking! The sheer power, beauty, and scale of Skógafoss were awe-inspiring, while Seljalandsfoss offered a completely different but equally magical experience. These iconic waterfalls are truly must-see natural wonders of Iceland. 🧊 Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and the Amphibian Boat Ride The absolute highlight was visiting the spectacular Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and enjoying the Jökull amphibian boat ride amidst the floating icebergs. Cruising through the glacial waters, surrounded by enormous ice formations in stunning shades of blue and white, was an extraordinary, once-in-a-lifetime experience. Seeing the icebergs up close, appreciating their incredible shapes and colours, and witnessing the sheer beauty of this natural wonder was simply magical. This experience alone made the entire journey worthwhile! 💎 Diamond Beach: Nature at Its Finest Diamond Beach was another unforgettable stop. Seeing glistening chunks of glacial ice scattered across the dramatic black volcanic sand was absolutely surreal. The contrast between the crystal-clear ice and the dark shoreline created breathtaking scenery and fantastic photography opportunities. 👥 Comfortable Group Size: Around 20 People One of the things we particularly appreciated was the manageable group size of approximately 20 travellers. It was a wonderful balance between enjoying a sociable group atmosphere and having a comfortable, well-organised experience. The group never felt overwhelmingly large, making the journey more personal and enjoyable. 🎟️ Excellent Value: Admission and Activities Included Another major plus was that the admission fee was already covered in our tour package, including the glacier lagoon amphibian boat experience. Having these arrangements taken care of made the day convenient and hassle-free, allowing us to focus entirely on enjoying Iceland’s extraordinary natural beauty. 🌟 Outstanding Guide and Driver: Stefán A! A very special mention and heartfelt thank you to our fantastic guide and driver, Stefán A, who made this experience even more memorable! Stefán was friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely passionate about Iceland. His fascinating stories, interesting insights, and wonderful sense of humour kept everyone engaged and entertained throughout the journey. Considering the considerable distance travelled from Reykjavík, his excellent driving, thoughtful organisation, and warm personality made a tremendous difference. We felt comfortable and well looked after throughout the day. ❤️ Who Is This Tour Best For? I would highly recommend this tour for first-time visitors to Iceland, nature lovers, photographers, couples, families, and anyone wanting to experience Iceland’s most spectacular natural wonders in one well-organised day. It is especially ideal for travellers who have limited time in Iceland but want to see iconic waterfalls, magnificent glaciers, floating icebergs, and the famous Diamond Beach without the hassle of arranging their own transportation. Be prepared for a long day with plenty of driving, but the spectacular scenery and unforgettable experiences make it absolutely worthwhile. 🏆 Final Verdict: An Exceptional 5-Star Experience! From the breathtaking Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls to the magical amphibian boat ride through Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and the extraordinary Diamond Beach, every stop offered something truly special. The comfortable group size, included admission, excellent organisation, and outstanding guidance from Stefán A made this an exceptional experience from beginning to end. Would I recommend it? Absolutely, without hesitation! If you’re planning a trip to Iceland, put this excursion at the very top of your itinerary. And if you’re fortunate enough to have Stefán A as your guide, you’re in for a fantastic day! Thank you, Stefán and Reykjavík Excursions, for an unforgettable Icelandic adventure! 🇮🇸❄️💙
Great trip. Excellent driver and tour guide. Plenty of time to relax while being transported between main sites. Tour makes stops at convince stores or road side diners to stretch and get something to eat (not include, but reasonably priced). If you arrange pick up at a bus stop, the provider will return you to your pickup location, not just drop you at the BSI terminal. Plan to get wet at the waterfalls or from weather, water resistant clothing and some hiking boots will make it much more enjoyable.
It was a great and long day! The guide knew a lot and told us many interesting stories
Eric was very kind, patience and considerate. He shared good precised information. Even made a stop to see northern lights. One feedback that I would like to give is either stop at waterfalls in the beginning of tour or just skip it. No point of stopping there after dark.
I think we were all worried about such a long day, but we needn’t have worried. Our driver Thor and our tour guide Mikki were really attentive and gave us really clear information about our upcoming stops for food, the toilet and the sights. Mikki has so much info about the sights in Reykjavik and history of the country and settlers that you do learn so much throughout the day. The actual main attractions are stunning beyond words, especially the main event of Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. These sights are worth the duration on the tour bus (which was very comfortable and kept at a nice temperature) We had an hour to take in the natural wonder of the ice at glacier lagoon, it would be nice to stay for longer but as it is such a long way from Reykjavik you can understand why that cannot be the case. Absolutely recommend for anyone who really wants to experience nature at its most beautiful.
An absolutely amazing experience. Would definitely recommend and come again. 10/10
Tour guide Mikki was mazing and so knowledgeable. Thor was a great driver. the diamond beach was cut short as some people on the tour did a boat trip, this meant we only got to 20 mins at diamond beach and an hour, which was too long, at the Glacier to allow for the boat tour. The day is very long but doesn’t feel like it,
This experience was a great time. The bus took us to multiple stops saving me from driving on the road. We got to see two waterfalls, black sand beach, and I went on a boat tour to look at glaciers. I would definitely recommend this if you aren’t familiar with Iceland and don’t feel comfortable driving. The waterfalls were pretty wet so definitely dress in waterproof clothes!
Amazing day! Mickey was fabulous, very informative, good company, excellent timings, lots of opportunity to stop. Diamond beach is well worth the long bus journey. The boat trip was magical.Out of this world! Thanks again xxxx
This was a phenomenal tour! The sites were absolutely beautiful and our tour guide was great! Very knowledgeable and entertaining.
I waited for over an hour to be picked up at my hotel. I contacted the company who claimed I was a no show and refused to refund me or provide me with another tour.
Absolutely best experience on my entire trip. This is a must see in Iceland. Our guide, Gudjon Jes, was fun and very educational. I highly recommend.
Absolutely brilliant!!! Pick up was on time. Journey was excellent. Lots of opportunities to purchase food from supermarkets/petrol stations along the way. The sites visited were excellent. It was a long journey but worth it! The only downside was getting to the waterfall and Vik after dark which meant walking behind it was dangerous as we couldn’t actually see what we were doing and we couldn’t see the church in Vik as it was pitch black.
Great fun and fantastic guide Micky ....he also booked us on a boat on the lagoon through the glaciers and saw seals
Amazing views. Totally worth it!
Great excursion with a good cherry on top with the nothern lights at Vik and Seljalandsfoss. Eric was a nice guide
Eric did an amazing job during the whole day. Very informative, many stories, plenty of information. And he even made an extra stop so we can enjoy the northern lights!
Great driver and guide who was so knowledgeable. Loved all the stories and learned a lot about Iceland! Highly recommend using him as most guides I’ve had here don’t talk much about Iceland facts/ history.
There are great locations on the itinary everyone must see. However this company made such a terrible planning so that you can only enjoy glacier lagoon and skogafoss. Most of time spent on the way and for toilet breaks. Guide took us to Seljalandfoss at 8:30 pm where it was completely dark. We didnt have a chance to enjoy that amazing view and since the path was barely visible, we were unable to climb and see the view from behind the waterfall. Also, we went to the food hall in Vik twice but since the time given was so limited, we didnt have a chance to try skool beans and soup company. On the contrary, since there was only 3 groups wanted to take a boat tour at glacier lagoon, we were given a free time of 1 hour 45 mins and because of that we arrived to our hotel at 22:30 although it was confirmed the day before tour that we will arrive between 20:30-21:30 which ended up with missing our dinner reservation. In a nutshell, amazing route, incredible views if your tour allows you to enjoy them…
It’s a very long day but you get to see so much! I feel like I thoroughly saw the south coast! I didn’t feel rushed on this tour at the sites but they nicely asked to be aware of the time due to having a fun filled packed day. We drove a lot, but got to see two glaciers, multiple lava fields and so many beautiful waterfalls! I would 100% do it again.
It’s a SUPER long day, but wow!! The glacier lagoon is the ultimate “this is Iceland!” moment. 100% worth the trip and I’d highly recommend it!
Our guide was wonderful—very knowledgeable, friendly, and engaging—and overall we enjoyed spending the day with him. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the way the itinerary was structured. One of the places I was most excited to visit was Seljalandsfoss, especially because I had really hoped to walk behind the waterfall. Unfortunately, this was our final stop at around 8:00 p.m., when it was already very dark, and we were only given about 10 minutes there. Although the waterfall was illuminated, it was simply not the same experience as seeing and exploring it during daylight. I was extremely disappointed that such a beautiful and anticipated stop was left until the very end of the day. The itinerary also gives the impression that you will have an opportunity to explore some of the small towns along the route. That really was not our experience. Most stops in the towns were essentially at gas stations or roadside stops where we could use the restroom, grab a quick bite, and visit a souvenir shop. I was particularly excited about visiting Vik, but by the time we arrived it was already nighttime. We had about 45 minutes, primarily to use the restroom and eat, along with many other buses and tour groups. There really was no opportunity to explore or experience the town. This is a very long excursion, and I feel the order of the stops could have been planned much better so that the major scenic attractions were visited during daylight hours. With a better-organized itinerary, I think this could have been an excellent tour. Unfortunately, despite having a wonderful guide, the overall experience did not feel worth such a long day.
It is a long drive but the destination is worth it. Totally beautiful. That landscape was amazing during the drive. We were lucky that the rain stopped. If not bring water proof clothing. The only negative I would give is on the stops for lunch and dinner. Would of preferred just one stop and longer at the destinations.
Amazing tour glad i could see iceland this way without having to do the driving and navigating myself... the bus was comfortable the info along the way was interesting and this tour was well worth it....Enrico and Olivia neither native to iceland were passionate and gave interesting information and stories and we even did a quick stop because we could see the northern lights
An amazing day. There were a couple of extra quick stops too. Our tour guide Albert was very knowledgeable and helpful. Definitely add on the amphibian experience at the lagoon. Albert helped us book when we got there as at the time we booked our tour it said it wasn't available in October. Definitely pre book the tour itself well in advance of your visit to Iceland. It's a long day, but over way too quickly
Great trip and the glacier and black sand beach was once in a lifetime experience! Our guide Albert was great and kept us well informed and on schedule and made us laugh a lot. Would highly recommend doing the optional boat trip in the glacier as this was a highlight of the trip. Word of warning this trip is LONG, 16 hours and I would have preferred a less stops as sometimes it was just a toilet break at a service station. If you are doing this trip would recommend not having too much planned the next day as it was a very early start and late finish but overall would say it's a must do if you are visiting Iceland.
I just had a most wonderful experience in Iceland today. Elly was our guide and she was wonderful, knowledgeable and friendly, and joy to spend the day with. The sights were amazing. The travel was easy and gentle. I would recommend this tour to everyone!
We really liked the tour. The glacier lagoon was amazing! Mikki was a great tour guide. He was so knowledgeable at each of our stops and along the way. He was super friendly and a great communicator and safe driver for a long day!
We had an amazing trip! Mikki was very insightful and gave us a lot of history of Iceland that’s super interesting. He took us to nice places and we were blessed with the weather. Thanks again Mikki!
I came to Iceland with my cousin and we were both too nervous to drive, so we booked a tour instead! So glad we did— it allowed us to relax and take in the beautiful scenery. Our guide, Mikki was an excellent driver and provided the rich history behind all of the breathtaking stops along the way. Would recommend to a friend!
Excellent tour, Stefan was a great guide, extremely knowledgeable and a very safe driver. It is a long day travelling between the sights but Stefan make many comfort stops. The pictures of the beach and the lagoon don't really do it justice, you have to see it to appreciate the size and the colours. Well worth the day travelling. Pack plenty of snacks and drinks, and waterproof clothes if you want to walk under the waterfall.
It was a long journey, but well worth it! We had an amazing experience and saw some stunning scenery. My parents are elderly and were a little worried about the amount of walking and the toilet breaks, but there were plenty of stops, and the walks weren’t too long. We really enjoyed our guide Margaret’s stories. She was so knowledgeable, and it was lovely to learn about Icelandic Christmas traditions and folklore.
While the itinerary looked impressive on paper, it was simply impossible to comfortably fit everything into a single day. As a result, the entire trip felt incredibly rushed. The tour guide seemed visibly stressed throughout the day, which made them come across as unfriendly and approachable. Additionally, the scheduled meal stops were disappointing and poorly chosen. As for the main attractions, the glacier lagoon and Diamond Beach were nice, but not diamonds and honestly felt a bit overrated. I wouldn't recommend this tour in its current format
Elvar was a wonderful guide! I really enjoyed his stories along the way. He was excellent at pointing out sights along the way and very clear about what times to be back to the bus. I would highly recommend this day trip.
This is an amazing tour, but it is long. The glacier lagoon and diamond beach were amazing. Unfortunately, the side of diamond beach we were on didn't have a lot of ice compared to the other side. Not sure why we didn't get to go on the other side but maybe for bus parking?? Nonetheless, it was a great experience. Our guide threw in a couple of extra stops that were nice. The only thing I would suggest would be to only eat once. We preferred the brewery dinner over the buffet lunch. Buffet lunch was expensive. I think time would be better spent to with one meal so that travelers can get back to their accommodations sooner. Otherwise, this is a beautiful scenic drive and beautiful stops that we made. The south coast was my favorite tour.
We had so much fun in the Diamond Beach and Glacier Lagoon. We recommend doing the boat tour for a chance to see the seals and glacier up close. Eric is our tour guide and he kept the trip interesting. Highly recommended!
While Iceland put on a rainy and cloudy day Ritchie our guide made the whole day an informative and fun adventure. His knowledge of the history associated with both the natural environment and the original setters was incredible. He coordinated our time off the bus and stops to provide the maximum exposure to the various attractions. This was all made possible by our driver Bartik who negotiated the wet conditions and 15 hour marathon effortlessly and we felt safe and comfortable all the way. I can recommend this trip to anyone who visits this wonderful country.
My 14hr experience was an amazing experience for my boyfriend and I. Our tour director was very knowledgeable and he even went out of his way to show us the northern lights on the way back to Reykavik.
Fantastic tour guide and gorgeous views. The glacier lagoons were unforgettable, in addition to diamond beach. We stopped at amazing restaurants along the way as well. Highly recommend!
This tour was an incredible experience. We loved traveling virtually the entire south coast of Iceland in a day. The glaciers in the lagoon and on Diamond Beach were magnificent and once-in-a-lifetime experience for us (We did opt for going on a boat ride in the lagoon and, while we don't regret it, we wouldn't do it again. I thought we would be really up close to the glaciers, but we really were not. Plus, they packed the boats really full and people stand up to take pictures making it pretty impossible to see much and enjoy the surroundings). The black sand beach in Vik was insane! We stopped there for dinner and the sunset was glorious. Our driver, Jonas, was willing to answer questions and periodically gave us stories and facts about Iceland. On the way back in the evening, the northern lights were out and Jonas pulled over and showed us how to expertly capture them in photos. What a dream come true! My bucket list is pretty fulfilled after the sites on this trip!
Jonas was an amazing tour guide. he gave great, unique facts as we drove along but didn’t talk too much as to overwhelm the tour. he went out of his way to stop for the northern lights when we saw them on the tour and gave good tips on where to get pictures!
This is a long 15 hour tour but definitely worth it. Can't beat the scenery along the way. Alot of inbetween rest/bathroom breaks which is much needed for 20+ people on board GoodJohn was our awesome driver. He made us comfortable, made funny jokes, told floklore history, whats what along the way and a good conversational-ist. Would definitely do it again. Cheers!
Gudjon Jes was a wonderful driver and I Icelandic historian. While getting us to our destination safely he filled us with information of Icelands past and present. He made our first trip to Iceland enjoyable!
Glacier lagoon and Diamond Beach were beautiful. Our guide, Gudjon Jes, was really good. I enjoyed listening to the history of the land.
Gudjon Jes was amazing!! He was very knowledgeable and took great care of us during the entire 14-hour trip. The entire trip was phenomenal with a small group of approximately 22 people and it was well worth the money.
This was a very long tour and bus ride but it was totally worth it. Our guide Brian had good stories to tell and kept us engaged. Even if the tour was long but we got a lot of time to explore the sights. The small tour size was also relaxing!
