My husband and I did private Golden Circle and South Coast tours with Friends of Iceland, and it was fantastic. Hilmar was an exceptional guide. He was knowledgable, friendly, and fun to spend time with. He knew the best timing to avoid the biggest crowds and shared great stories and insights at every stop. Because it was a private tour, he could adjust the pace to us so we never felt rushed. We saw everything we wanted and more. He was easy to talk to in the vehicle. We learned a lot about Icelandic life and culture, and he answered every question we had - something the bigger bus tours just can't do. The personalized experience is worth every penny and we couldn't recommend Hilmar or Friends of Iceland Tours more highly!

Itinerary
The location of Althing, the old Parliament of Iceland. At Þingvellir the Eurasian and North American plate boundaries which run through Iceland are clearly visible - the plates are moving apart here and the land between them is subsiding.
From Þingvellir we head along the mountains to the world renowned geothermal hot spring area around Geysir. Although the original Geysir is not active at the moment, its neighbor, Strokkur, spouts every 5 or 10 minutes.
Gullfoss means the Golden waterfall and you will not be disappointed there. Gullfoss is actually two separate waterfalls of 11 and 22 meter height. On a sunny day a rainbow will be likely to show up and you can make wishes that might even come true!
It's a beautiful and dynamic waterfall. Just above the waterfall is a common sheep fold and right next to the waterfall you can find some cool salmon ladder.
It's a nicely shaped pseudo crater formed some 5,000 years ago, with a rather deep lake in the bottom.

Iceland was a very cool place to visit and there were lots of interesting places to see my favorites being the black sand beaches, the cave waterfall where you climbed up all the rocks, the glacier, the hot spring/ lagoons, and the fairy garden movie scene looking place it was all very beautiful thank you so much Gunnar, - Logan (bathroom boy)
If I could give Gunnar more than 5 stars, I would in a heartbeat. Our family took our very first trip to Iceland from July 6–14, and having Gunnar as our guide turned an already incredible destination into a truly magical, once-in-a-lifetime experience. Because it was our first visit, we wanted to see it all. Gunnar went above and beyond to make sure we saw every iconic landmark, but what made the trip extra special was his deep, personal connection to Iceland. Growing up there, he knew all the secret, breathtaking spots far away from the usual tourist crowds—hidden gems we never would have found on our own. Traveling with preteens and a teenager can sometimes be a balancing act, but Gunnar was an absolute natural. He kept the kids completely engaged and excited the entire time. From finding stunning waterfalls we could actually walk behind, to exploring hidden caves and taking us on unforgettable hikes, he made every day a new, thrilling adventure for them. Beyond his incredible skill as a guide, Gunnar is just a lovely human being. He was amazingly patient, accommodating, and a master storyteller. He answered our endless stream of questions with ease and warmth, sharing rich history and local insights that made us fall in love with the country. By the end of our trip, Gunnar didn't just feel like our guide—he felt like part of our family. We miss him already! If you are lucky enough to have Gunnar guide your journey through Iceland, know that you are in the absolute best hands. Thank you, Gunnar, for giving us memories our family will treasure forever! 💜
Our guide driver Jena what very accommodating and friendly. She was friendly and willing to make adjustments as the weather was y very good and we had some mobility restrictions in our private group.
The tour guide is nice. Very familiar with the local features. She was able spoke fluent Chinese and English.
The tour guide, Xiao Juan (筱娟), was very nice. She recommended good restaurants and photo spots for us and provided a thorough introduction to Iceland’s culture, landmarks, and even its small animals! When we were leaving, she kindly gave us some of her artworks as a gift. She was very nice and kind!
Our awesome guide and driver Hilly was very accommodating on adding or changing stops. He also gave great recommendations on where to shop and what to avoid. He was also very understanding of my aging parents' mobility issues. Highly recommended private tour for a drama-free, chill tour! Bonus he was a very skilled driver as well.
Fantastic trip. So great to see waterfalls, ice bergs, glaciers, mountains, black sand, huge rocks. Gunnar was a great guide. He knows the roads, the places to see. He was a careful driver and really packed our days with adventure. He had great places for us to stay, fixed some great breakfasts for us, and knew good places to eat.
My wife were scheduled to be in Reykjavik for two days, so my wife sorted a private tour for one day. Sage, our tour guide, met us at the hotel very promptly. Her tour schedule met our needs. Sage was very knowledgeable about the areas and knew the ins and outs of each location. We were able to venture to other places "normal" tourists could not. She also recommended great food to taste and even broke our schedule to visit a farm that had fantastic ice cream. My wife and I felt comfortable and safe while on this tour. Saga also assisted us on the walks to and from the waterfalls to ensure our safety. Without a doubt, I recommend this tour company and specifically our guide. The eight hours flew by.
We had a wonderful time. Jen was so helpful to me as a senior. I couldn't ask for any improvement. All I can say is she is a wonderful employee.
Very very nice. Tourist guide take care of everyone, and introduce every place in detail. We have been happy and good memories in Iceland.
We had an unforgettable trip! Gunnar is incredibly knowledgeable and was able to show us so many places in Iceland that we never would have seen if he was not our guide. By hiring Gunnar, we were able to just sit back and enjoy the breathtaking beauty of Iceland. This was the best trip that my family has ever taken and so much of that has to do with the fact that we hired Gunnar to be our guide.
We did a pre-cruise 2-day private tour at Reykjavik, followed by a 1.5 day tour at port stop Akureyri, amazing experience. The tour company is so knowledgeable & accommodating. Tour driver & guide Jane is super friendly and thoughtful. Iceland is beautiful, a must visit country, and 'Friends in Iceland Tours' is the one you should go with!!!
Today all the trips are very well arranged Apart from the beautiful Attractions you want to see National Parks, Golden Falls and Blue Lake Bubble Springs Also added to two Mystery Attractions Sharkscape Falls and Mount Lake Time and good control Too perfect.
In-person to see the natural landscape with a deep imprint in the mind, rare landscape, glacier volcano landscape to observe, luck is good, the weather in the trip is good, to appreciate the beautiful view is not better, there is a chance to hope that you come to the scene to watch, Blue Lake hot spring is very well known, comfortable body, driver and tourist guide, each to a tourist attraction detailed, more understanding, thank you
The professionalism, kindness and advice of Mrs. Elsa (Friend in Iceland) were very helpful and important to deal well with the trip and excursions.
