I cannot say enough positive things about our experience with Reykjavik Erupts, which we booked for two full-day tours—one to the Reykjanes Peninsula, and the other to the Golden Circle. Our guide provided us with a wealth of information about Iceland's history, culture, traditions, and more—we got a fascinating crash course in the sagas! Our group of 6 family members varied in age from 20-84, with different mobility levels, and somehow our guide managed to tailor our tour so that everyone had a fulfilling experience. One of the highlights included stopping at two excellent restaurants for lunch (we never would have found these on our own) and the insider knowledge of our guide was especially helpful for navigating significant crowds (we were there right around the eclipse). Will definitely book again when we return! Five stars!

One of Iceland's most famous places. This is where the Vikings assembled every summer to discuss the law, make convictions and of course practice politics of their time (something that really hasn't changed much in 1.000 years) The National Park is also a unique place in terms of geology for this is the place where you can clearly see how the Tectonic Plates are pulling apart in Iceland.
We visit the hot spring area in Haukadalur the home of Geysir - the geyser all geysers are named after. Though the old Geysir has been dormant for some time his little brother Strokkur is erupting beautifully every few minutes.
This magnificent waterfall is one of the highlights of the Golden Circle tour. It is hard to describe the experience of being there. There is something about seeing thousands of tons of glacial water rushing through every second. Truly amazing.
Kerið, a volcanic crater lake located in the Grímsnes area in south Iceland, is one of the most visually stunning geological wonders in the country. This vibrant blue gem, which is part of the Western Volcanic Zone that includes the Reykjanes peninsula and the Langjökull Glacier, is a mere 6,500 years old – making it one of the three most recognizable volcanic craters in Iceland. The caldera is approximately 55 m deep, 170 m wide, and 270 m across, and is made up of a unique red volcanic rock.
The Secret Lagoon, known locally as Gamla Laugin, is the oldest swimming pool in Iceland. It was made in 1891 at Hverahólmi, a geothermal area near Flúðir. It´s a natural, simple, and uniquely Icelandic experience.

Our second day-trip in July with Reykjavik Erupts was the Golden Circle. Jakob came to pick-up and brought us home. He personalised the Golden Circle using less travelled paths allowing Iceland "to do us" like Dofri, the owned of the business, told me when we spoke. The trip was adpated to the varying needs of 65 year old dad and of younger kids - taking the weather into account, so that we did much, but not too much. We left really satisfied - of our discoery of Iceland. And much of what we saw or heard made our further days in Iceland more fruitful.
Dofri was great, we had a great time. He taught so much about Icelandic history. I couldn't recommend him high enough.
After having travelled extensively and written all sorts of reviews, writing a review for this trip seems more difficult than an exam. Words fall short to describe the warm and luxurious manner with which Dofri treated us. Educated and literate, generous and considerate, intelligent and witty, fun loving with a flair for telling stories and all that you can imagine is what barely describes him. He was always ready to capture our best moments with the lens . Dofri has a unique way of dealing with children; even the most reserved children befriend him easily. Iceland means Reykjavik Erupts; Reykjavik Erupts means Dofri. Thank you for the everlasting memories.
Our tour of the Golden Circle was incredible! The our guide, Dagur, was very knowledgeable, friendly, and funny. He knew all the good spots to go, and always made sure we stayed safe with the weather. Would highly recommend!!
The golden circle was so beautiful! Wouldn't have had such a easy and fun time getting there without our tour guide.
Had an excellent time with our tour guides, they truly made the experience a unique and unforgettable time. Both in terms of convenience and experience with the area we had a great time with our whole group. The stories they told kept our attention and gave us great things to add to the experience.
This was one of the best experiences I've ever had. This was my first time in Iceland and I am glad to say that I it was everything I had imagined and more because of Reykjavik Erupts. Our tour guide, Dofri, was truly amazing and very knowledgeable. He would often grace us with many stories about the local culture, sites, and his own life, which made the whole experience feel a lot more personal compared to what you would get from one of those large tour companies. If you are planning a trip to Iceland and want an unforgettable experience, I would highly recommend booking with Reykjavik Erupts.
The tour was just as great as the views. The tour guide knew exactly where to stop for great pictures, and he was patient the entire time, even though our group wasn’t the most punctual. Another thing I loved about the tour was how knowledgeable he was—he shared stories about the island, along with some fun facts
Thank you to Dofri for being an amazing guide! He was very patient and we were able to get a beautiful view of the northern lights. He really put in a lot of effort to make sure we had a good experience and brought a lot of enthusiasm and humor even when it was taking a bit to find anything at first. Would definitely recommend! He had a lot of fun and historical stories and it was great having him as our guide for the Golden Circle as well. We had no regrets booking!
Dofiri was an amazing guide, with so much patience as we hunted the northern lights. He also brough up the energy by making us sing and not letting us lose our enthusiasm whenever we got too cold! Would definetely recommend him for a tour!
The trip was amazing! It was so cool to see the natural hot springs, I never would have guessed they were so big and extensive Our tour guide was truly awesome too, he told us stories the whole time about how Justin Bieber boiled his foot in these hot springs once, ect ect
Amazing beyond words. Dofri was the man of 1000 stories and provided such great insight about all the places we visited. His mix of historical information, mythology, and stories from his own life made the trip so unique and rewarding. Would recommend to anyone going to Iceland!
WOW!!! What an amazing couple of days exploring, we did the Golden Circle and South Coast Tour.. Dofri was amazing, from the very start his communication was brilliant, he was patient and advised us along the way when booking excursions. We would definitely recommend Dofri and Reykjavik Erupts he was so warm, friendly, knowledgeable, flexible and he even made us sing for the Northern Lights to appear!! He brought along his dog, she was quiet, friendly and kept my daughter entertained.. :) Do not hesitate to book your excursions through Reykjavik Erupts you will not be disappointed, it was effortless and easy. We will definetly book our future trips to Iceland through this company.
Great Job! Great with children. Very smooth, knows Iceland like the back of his hand. Would highly recommend and use him again.
I have been blessed to have traveled around the world in the past 60 years, but this was one of the best tours I ever experienced. The 5 of us enjoyed a wonderful day touring the golden circle, enjoying majestic stops with an informative and entertaining Dofri. He personalized the tour to our interests. Now I understand why he receives fantastic online reviews.
Dofri was the most amazing host on our family's trip to the Golden Circle. We had 3 generations on the trip with both sets of grandparents, my wife and I, and our 5 and 3 year olds. Dofri was amazing with our kids telling us all about the Sagas and troll stories. We truly felt part of his family as he showed us his Country and talked about his unique life experience across Iceland. We stopped at all of the normal Golden Circle spots and were given the perfect amount of time to pace it for the whole family. We stopped for lunch at a beautiful farm restaurant that was mostly locals and played on the playground there.
We had an amazing time with Dofri. He was super accommodating and even rearranged our agenda the night before when our daughter sprained her ankle. We saw beautiful landscapes and heard wonderful stories about the history of Iceland. First class all the way.
I cannot recommend this excursion enough. Our guides Dofri and Dagur were incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and enhanced our trip to a level I have never experienced before. It was genuinely the greatest vacation that I've ever been on, and they are a huge part of what made our experience so much fun. Hope to see you both again the next time I'm in Iceland!
Dagur was very friendly and knowledgeable about all the sites we went to. He made the bus ride very entertaining and memorable. Highly recomend Reykjavik Erupts for large groups visiting Iceland
Amazing tour! The sights were beautiful and the tour guides were awesome. They were very informative, kind, and funny. Highly recommend especially if you like taking pictures.
He was amazing, he made it super fun and also show us a lot of things. He stopped to buy the traditional fermented Shark for us to try, he got us local candy, and he was very good making jokes to keep us entertained while in the road.
I was able to join a tour on very short notice after other plans fell through and I was a bit lost, and thanks to Dofri I ended up having a great day with some very cool people! I saw a lot of beautiful places and we also went to get local food and talked about all kinds of interesting things. Thank you very much and I hope to visit again some day!
Our group thoroughly enjoyed our day with Reykjavik Erupts and our fantastic guide, Dofri! Dofri is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about all things Iceland. We enjoyed our comfortable van tour to the Golden Circle sights, and the local lunch spot food was delightful! While driving back to Reykjavik Dofri entertained us with Sagas of Viking and Icelandic lore! We are eager to return and revisit this unique and magical place. We highly recommend Reykjavik Erupts to all whom we speak to about our experiences in Iceland!
A full day with amazing views and an excellent tour guide. Our tour guide Dofri gave us a very unique experience with everything from a tour to the stables, great local food, great views of the waterfalls, geysers and the black beach. The enchanting Viking story’s took the experience to another level.
This trip was so wonderful that everything we did afterwards paled by comparison. Dofri helped me plan the tour and answered tons of questions. Then he coordinated with me the week prior to make sure we had the right clothes for the weather and that pick up would work smoothly. Steinhar was our guide. He meshed well with my family and graciously dealt with everyone's differing health and physical abilities. He was flexible about where we wanted to go, how much time we wanted to spend there, and where we wanted to get picked up and dropped off. We even got some hidden gems and extra views off the beaten path. With Steinhar, we learned a lot and laughed even more! (My family is still repeating Steinhar sayings a week later.) I wanted to learn about elves, drolls, and the hidden people and Steinhar's stories were excellent. If I could give this trip 6 stars out of 5, I would. Saying that it was excellent is underselling the experience.
We have been on a business trip for 4 days, 2 days we had activities. We visited the "Golden circle" and did river rafting one day. Day two we went on an ATV tour + Lava tunnel. We had our guide Dofri with us who made sure this trip was unforgettable! We couldn't have found a more fun guide! We are incredibly grateful for the wonderful time we got to spend with Dofri and we can warmly recommend him to everyone who is going on excursions in Iceland! We miss Dofri already!
The tour was amazing. We went to main places and activities were really well planed. We enjoyed the guide and company. :)
The Golden Circle tour was a great experience and Dofri was a very funny and interesting story teller about Icelands fantastic culture and history. The Goldern Circle Tour exceeded my expectations. The combination of breathtaking landscapes, rich culture, and expert guidance made for a fantastic experience. I can’t wait to return and explore more of this incredible country!
We were six seniors including one disabled person using a scooter and we had a blast. Dofri picked us up timely at our hotel and we set out with his telling us about the Iceland saga and his family. Dofri is a wonderful story teller. He tied the tales to the places we were viewing. He was kind, thoughtful and quite funny. We thoroughly enjoyed our day with him. It was a great tour of iconic Iceland sites.
Magnificent! Spectacular! And the scenery of Iceland was wonderful too. But I am referring to our travel guide, Dorfi H. Our group explored the Golden Circle, South to Vik and Thorsmork, and then North to Akureyri and Husavik. Dorfi helped me refine the plans to see the tourist spots, but also explore off the beaten path. Our group ranged in age from 9-84. He made everyone feel comfortable and important. Dofri has a vast knowledge of Iceland and its history. But his stories on folklore and Vikings kept us entertained for hours of travel. Dofri is one of the most interesting people I have met. He is educated and well spoken on a variety of topics. We were missing our dog and he brought his 2 border collies who were adored by all. I really can't recommend Dofri enough. He made our 7 days of travel with him so enjoyable and informative. Enjoy your time with the best!
We came all the way from Brazil, and such an amazing experience with our guide Dofri. Our guide was aways delivering much more then expected. Huge cultural level, filled with great stories and great interpretation (he's an actor as well). He took us to places beyond the ones we booked. Thank you for everything Dofri!
This was the second of three tours I did with Dofri and Reykjavik Erupts. I also wrote reviews of those tours. The Golden Circle tour with Reykjavik Erupts was fantastic! I thought the first tour we did with Dofri was great, but this one was even better. It was like spending a day with a long-lost cousin who knew all the ins and outs and fun things to do in his home turf. Dofri and his canine helpers, Hneta and Kvika (we asked if they could continue to tour with us), started the day by picking us up at our hotel and soon headed out to the Golden Circle. Our first stop was Thingvellir. On the way there, Dofri began telling us the saga of one of his ancestors, Egill. I won't spoil anything here, but I may now know where a horde of silver is buried in Iceland. I should also add that after hearing the saga from Dofri, I went out and bought a book on Egill's Saga. He is a credit to his skald ancestor and tells it better than reading it in a book, hands down. When we reached Thingvellir, Dofri was quick to help my mom in her wheelchair. She only needs it on long walks, and this was a long walk... downhill. Holding a wheelchair back while walking downhill is a lot harder for me than pushing it uphill. But Dofri stepped in and took care of it, keeping my mom safe and comfortable while we walked. As soon as the ground was flat, he allowed me and mom some private time to enjoy Thingvellir together. Later, he kept my mom occupied by playing fetch with the dogs while I took a hike up to a small but beautiful waterfall that was not accessible to her. We stopped briefly at a secret, off-the-beaten-path place near a lake. There, we saw how traditional Icelandic rye bread was cooked (fascinating). It was a beautiful area, and we were some of the only people there. No big buses of people. Dofri made us reservations at Friðheimar, the famous tomato farm. It was at the top of my mom's list as she used to grow a huge garden. We ate some of the best tomato soup there, and I even tried tomato ice cream (pretty good). We then visited Gullfoss (where again Dofri kept my mom company so I could explore more on foot) and then my favorite stop of the day, Geysir. He snapped the best photo of me and mom (I will share that with my photos). That's another great thing about having Dofri as a guide: his eye for a good photo! We headed for home after that, but not before Dofri took us to one of the best secret ice cream cafes in the area. We learned a lot more on the way back to the hotel about Iceland and its people... including some personal stories from our guide himself. I highly recommend Reykjavik Erupts and Dofri in particular to everyone who wants to book a private tour in Iceland. I booked a private guide because I brought my elderly mom with me on a short trip to Iceland, and I knew private tours would be best considering our limited time and her mobility issues. Dofri made sure our Iceland experience was priceless. Please see my other reviews (Visit the Volcanoes and South Coast) for more information about Reykjavik Erupts. I fully plan to go back to Iceland in the future, and I will be sure to book Reykjavik Erupts again when I do.
Great guide! Knew so much about Iceland from history, nature, wildlife, society and politics to the great sagas of the Icelandic culture and heritage. We met him as a guid but left him as a fried!
We had an amazing time in Iceland and the highlight was the day tour around the Golden Circle with our guide Dagur. He had so many wonderful stories and great recommendations. We learned a lot about the history of and life in Iceland. It was a last minute trip and we were lucky to have found Reykjavik Erupts. It was super easy to communicate with Dofri and set up all the details. I hope we will have the opportunity to visit again!
We are dyed in the wool travellers. But Dofri took guiding to a new level. Not only was he knowledgeable about Iceland he knows so much about the world. He has been a politician, a marketing Guru and a conservationist. You cannot get a better guide in Iceland or the Baltics... period. His Land Rover is comfortable and he offroads quite a bit which is a must in lovely Iceland. The Golden Circle is a must do. Some unbelievable waterfalls. Never seen terraced falls as in Iceland. Somewhat even beats the Niagara in how beautiful it is. But then there are so may falls each one as pretty as the previous one. Some inside a farm. We even went behind one and Dofri was our photographer.Wow.
Dofri was great in accommodating our schedule and we had a wonderful time touring with Finn. As my wife and I were traveling with our son (8), the private tour was perfect. Finn hit the key spots and supplemented (as time allowed) with spots your cookie-cutter tour companies couldn't accommodate. We learned a lot and had a great time seeing some of this beautiful country. Finn was gracious and personable and always ready to answer our questions. My family and I highly recommend Reykjavik Erupts!
It’s hard to not enjoy such a beautiful country with the natural wonders, but to learn the history along the way makes it that much more wonderful. Finn was an amazing guide! We were able to hit the big points and able to get to see additional hidden Gems along the way. The organic green house lunch was a homerun, we highly recommend. They also had gluten free bread! The vehicle was very comfortable!
We did this tour with Dofri. It was excellent. He Shows his guests not only the ordinary spots, also he shows some hidden sights, what we like very much. Also he can explain very well the mentality of Island People. We did this tour with our childreen (5 and 10), and they liked it very much too. So if we will go again to iceland, we will do again a tour with Dorfi for sure.
We only had a limited time frame, which motivated our tour guide to combine the most beautiful spots in a compact tour. With the LandRover it went cross-country and over stick and stone. Between the stations during the trip there were interesting and curious things about Iceland. An absolutely memorable trip and worth every minute.
