Here is where you will float through the aquatic world of Silfra, the meeting point of two continents. With the cool glacier filtered water the rift offers exceptional visibility that extends to such distances it feels that you are suspended in the air above the deep crack of Silfra. There are four main sections that you will pass through; Silfra Deep Crack, Silfra Hall, Silfra Cathedral and Silfra Lagoon. Experiencing these first hand is the only true way to witness the breathtaking beauty.
We make our way to Þingvellir National park, where the diving site Silfra is located. On UNESCO's world heritage list for its unique geological features you will be sure to be awed by the beauty of the place. The only place where the Atlantic oceanic rift is visible above water, the location of the world's oldest parliament and home to stunning natural wonders.
Gullfoss waterfall is one of Iceland's most iconic natural wonders. Located in the Hvítá River canyon, this magnificent cascade plunges in two dramatic tiers into a deep gorge. Often accompanied by ethereal mists and rainbows on sunny days, Gullfoss captivates visitors with its raw power and beauty—a must-see stop on any journey through Iceland’s breathtaking landscapes.
Geysir is the legendary geothermal area in Iceland's Haukadalur Valley that inspired the name for geysers around the world. Although the original Geysir now erupts less frequently, its dramatic past and the surrounding bubbling hot springs and steaming vents continue to showcase the raw power of nature’s geothermal forces.
Kerid is Iceland's most famous volcanic crater, situated conveniently along the Golden Circle route.
After your magical experience, you will be dropped off at your selected drop off spot in the Reykjavík capitol area.

Our snorkeling experience with Fernanda was incredible. She got us suited up efficiently to give us maximum opportunity to snorkel. Her guidance was clear and I felt safe. It was cold but absolutely worth it. An amazing experience to see so clearly into the depths of the crevasse.
Everything was fantastic & I'm very happy with the tour, the guides (Nail, Lucky) & drivers (Wojtek, Lucky)! I would absolutely recommend Arctic Adventures to anyone visiting Iceland.
Spectacular. Floating over the fault line was mesmerizing, like a dream. The equipment was new and very good, the guides were very knowledgeable and friendly. We felt welcomed and valued. The complimentary pictures were a really nice touch. Jampy was an excellent guide.
Awesome experience snorkeling Silfra fissure and touring golden circle. Isra was an amazing snorkeling guide!!!!
Amazing tour, well organized would highly recommend! Was worried about the cold in the water but the tour provides a warm suit, a wet suit, and a lot of good energy! Not sure if you can request a guide, but Hernan is the BEST!! 🇦🇷
My wife and I have dove and snorkeled all over the world. With Silfra, there’s zero fish to look at and two types of plants. So don’t expect much in that arena, but the water is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS! Super clear and clean. You are encouraged to actually drink the water. Plus you’re wearing a dry, you can’t even dive down because the air is not released. I would recommend it to our friends who are active because it breaks up the monotony of driving around in a bus or car all day with short walks to various sites. Pro-tip. The reason you are asked to bring thermal long underwear isn’t so much to keep you warm as to keep you feeling icky. You wear a thermal suit under your dry suit (think of it like using a rental sleeping bag that’s not cleaned regularly. You’ll be plenty warm, your undergarments are basically functioning as “sleep bag liner.”
This trip was just absolutely amazing. First we got in the bus with Niko, and he was just a fantastic driver/guide. He took us to Silfra and we went snorkeling. Our guide Nail, was just the most amazing. She was extremely knowledgeable and make sure our dry suits were sealed. We got in the water and the visibility was outstanding. No water inside the dry suit, and although we were in glacial water I did not get cold at all. Nail gave us clear instructions and set us up for success. After that we transferred to the golden circle tour with Maria. Maria was super kind and the best guide around, we can see how much knowledge she has regarding her homeland, and her willingness to share it with us. We saw the geysers, Golden waterfall, horses at a local farm, and the Crater. We also had enough time to explore Thingvellir.
Trip with Maria was great. Thank You. Neila in Sufra was very great guide. IT was great adventures!! Thank You for all for hospitality.
My wife and I had an excellent time visiting the golden circle and the Silfra fissure. Nico provided a great tour on the ride to Silfra, Valentina was very patient and helpful during our Silfra snorkeling, and Maria took us on a fun trip visiting the golden circle.
That’s amazing! The scenery is absolutely beautiful. Our dive guide Iliana was fantastic! Definitely worth coming!
Snorkeling Silfra was a very unique experience. Nico, our guide was great - very helpful and entertaining. I was a little nervous about snorkeling in the frigid water but it was surprisingly relaxing and enjoyable.
Went with Arctic Adventrues and cannot reccomend enough. Our guide was Nico and he was the best. Super funny and welcoming to our whole group and the best guide. He really made this the highlight of the trip. If you are good feeling a little constrained and cold it's definitely worth doing.
Experience was really good, especially the snorkeling. Epic sights and amazing scenery during the drive. The tour operators were very good waiting for missing English people, but it made the day very long. Better organised pickup points could partly avert this. We had two tour guides in the day. They were both good, Simon was especially personable 👍🏻
10/10 After arriving to Iceland, we decided we wanted to literally jump right into our adventures! And started with snorkeling. We arrived alittle early and got to explore the area! Everyone from this organization was amazing! Niko was our tour guide and he was amazing! He not only learned all of our names but took great care in making us feel comfortable! I really thought the water would still be freezing even with dry suits especially since we are from Florida but we stayed dry and the water was more than tolerated!! The views were absolutely breathtaking! Definitely recommend and look forward to our next adventures with this company! Also bonus after coming out of the water was a warm cup of hot chocolate and cookie!
Great combo tour if you’re short on time! The Silfra fissure dive is a very unique experience and the Golden Circle is a must see in Iceland
Had a great time snorkeling with Illiana. She is a very patient and knowledgeable guide. We all felt safe and that she cares for your enjoyment and comfort. I do have to say that it was very cold on my hands and feet, but my wife said she was fine. We are both happy that we snorkeled in Iceland and didn't chicken out. The Golden Circle tour was also worth it. What a gorgeous country and our driver was great, I'm sorry I don't remember her name, she is from Italy I remember that. She is a great driver and also very knowledgeable on Iceland geography and history. Didn't pass this tour up.
Had an amazing experience snorkelling the Silfra fissure. Our guide Valentina was great, took some great photos for us and made the whole experience really smooth. Totally unique experience!!
It was an amazing experiance. The organisation was good and the gear kept us nice and warm, but most of all the visibility and scenery was stunning. Hernan was a great guide.
We booked the combined Silfra Snorkelling and Golden Circle Tour with Arctic Adventures. Booking was easy, they gave very good instructions and arrived on schedule with a nice clean modern mini bus. First stop was Silfra for the snorkelling, we were in a small group of 6 , our instructor, Nico, was very nice and got us all booted and suited as quickly as was possible. As we were waiting to get into the water we were all feeling pretty cold and were wondering if this was a good idea or not, initially when you stick your face in the water the temperature is a bit of a shock but within a minute you heat up and stop feeling the cold. The water is crystal clear and it is spectacular swimming between two tectonic plates. Next up was a visit to Gullfoss waterfall, which was stunning covered in ice, then we went to see the geysers which are again quite spectacular, though you may have to hang around for 10 - 20 mins to see a big eruption. Lastly we visited an extinct volcano and went down onto the ice covering the lake at the bottom of the caldera. Both experiences were great, it all went well, there were enough toilet/ snack breaks. I would give both the tour and the tour company 5 stars.
just have to share how incredible the combined Golden Circle and snorkeling tour with Arctic Adventures in Iceland was — it honestly exceeded every expectation. Starting with the Golden Circle, the day was packed with stunning sights and perfectly paced exploration. From the erupting geysers at Geysir, to the thundering beauty of Gullfoss waterfall, and the breathtaking landscapes of Þingvellir National Park, every stop was awe-inspiring. The guides were phenomenal — sharing fascinating stories about Icelandic geology, history, and culture while making sure everyone could fully appreciate the scenery. The natural beauty, the crisp air, and the incredible vistas made the Golden Circle a truly unforgettable journey. Then came the snorkeling portion, which was unlike anything else. Suited up in drysuits, gloves, and hoods, we plunged into the crystal-clear waters of Þingvellir’s tectonic rift, floating effortlessly between the North American and Eurasian plates. The underwater visibility was unreal — jagged rocks, deep fissures, and glacial bubbles created a surreal, almost magical landscape. The guides were both professional and enthusiastic, ensuring safety while pointing out all the unique geological features. Swimming there felt like exploring an entirely different world, quiet, weightless, and absolutely mesmerizing. The combination of above-ground wonder and underwater adventure made for a perfectly balanced day — one moment marveling at thundering waterfalls and erupting geysers, the next drifting silently through a shimmering underwater canyon. Every element of the tour was expertly executed, from transport and timing to guidance and gear, making the experience seamless and completely immersive. For anyone wanting to see Iceland’s iconic landscapes and experience its unique underwater world in a single, unforgettable day, this Golden Circle and snorkeling tour with Arctic Adventures is unbeatable. Every detail, every sight, and every moment was unforgettable.
Incredible once in a lifetime experience to see a UNESCO world heritage site. Be prepared for cold weather with a wait between putting your gear on and getting in the water. Although the current carries you, you need to be in physical good health to swim in heavy gear in 34 degree water. The staff is super accommodating for participants who realize it may be a bit too much after some practice before heading down the fissure.
Had such an incredible time on this tour! It was a long day but enjoyed every moment. We were picked up at 8:30am and taken to snorkelling experience first, and then driven around 3 additional spots on the Golden Circle. For snorkelling, our group was split into 2 so that we were a nice small group of 5. Nico was a great guide - encouraging, fun and helpful, and the water at Silfra Fissure was (as promised) the clearest water ever. Dry suits kept us warm and dry (apart from hands as these are just wetsuit-style gloves. My husband found the suit quite tight around the neck. We brought a change of clothes but neither us needed to use them. Afterwards, we got to explore more of Þingvellir National Park, and were then taken to Geysir, Gullfoss and Kerið Crater. Thoroughly enjoyed all of these. The time to explore is a little limited, but we were able to see everything we wanted, get our photos and read the information posts. There are toilets & cafes at all the stops. We brought lunch and snacks with us which I'd definitely recommend so that you don't have to use up precious exploring time waiting for a sandwich. Got back to our hotel around 6pm ish, very tired but buzzing from the experience.
Hernán, the Argentinian diver, was incredible on our snorkelling tour. This Argentinian legend brought Argentinian skill, Argentinian confidence, and very Argentinian charm to every moment underwater. As an Argentinian guide, Hernán (yes, Argentinian Hernán) made us feel totally safe while showing off amazing sights only an Argentinian diver would find. And the hot chocolate—made by an Argentinian, obviously—was unreal. Rich, warming, and somehow perfect in a freshwater setting. Truly one outstanding, unforgettable, extremely Argentinian experience.
Amazing experience snorkelling in the Silfra fissure led by a brilliant team! Golden circle tour is also one you have to do and our guide was super knowledgeable and very funny!
A truly amazing day. The silfra snorkel is something I'll remember forever, a properly unique experience and Ernan (sorry if I mispelt that) our guide was the best. We had alot of nervous people in the group and his charm and professionalism put them at ease and made sure they got to experience it. The golden circle portion was stunning and our guide Urla was insanely knowledgable, funny and a very safe driver in some tough conditions.
The perfect way to experience Iceland. Fede, our guide for snorkelling was brilliant, helpful and friendly. A really fun experience, beautiful underwater sights and amazing to swim in between the tectonic plates. Don't worry about the dry suits. They really do keep you dry as long as you follow the guides rules! The national park is stunning. We were lucky to have lovely sunshine all day. Really nice to drive around so much of Iceland and take in the landscape. Gullfoss was stunning and as beautiful as you would hope, the highlight would have to be geysir. Taking in this natural phenomena at sunset was very special. Our guide Erla was a brilliant driver and guide and told us all about Icelandic history and all important folklore. Listen out for the elves and Christmas Cat! If you have time there will be stops at a lake crater and horse farm. Really good value for money and fantastic memories. Thank you!
This tour is hands down the best tour in Iceland - maybe even the world. We were driven across the incredible Icelandic landscapes with dramatic superhero music setting the scene - lovely touch by the way. Our snorkelling tour guide Nico was exceptional, and he made us feel very safe, and comfortable in the face of 2 degree water! Thank you to Nico for being our Silfra Snorkelling guide, a genuinely passionate, enthusiastic guide who loves what they do! Nico guided us through the Silfra explaining the history and geology of this incredible place. Nico was also really helpful when a group member felt unwell. We were given hot chocolate and a biscuit to help warm us after our adventure. After our snorkelling we were guided through the golden circle tour by Fredrick another passionate guide who really wants to share their passion with the world. We were taken to some of the most incredible picturesque locations in Iceland, and Fredrick even adjusted the tour to make sure we had less crowds for the Geyser. We learnt about Icelandic mythology, history and socio-politics in the bus rides between locations, and I feel full of new knowledge to go home and share with my family. Thank you to arctic adventures, and the fantastic guides for making our tour unforgettable.
Silfra was the stand out moment of this tour. With only one day in Reykjavík this was a great way of seeing all the major sights plus having the opportunity to snorkel between two tectonic plates. Only awarded 4 out of 5 as it’s expensive. Our guide Gona was fantastic.
Been there with our very knowledgeable Guide Marcello, who also gave lots of background insights to Iceland, the culture and aspects of everyday life on the Island. The snorkeling run is great, but water at 2 degrees is just cold, no matter the (very good) provided equipment used. But this makes the experience so unique.
Site far too busy. Unique experience but ruined by the very people who came to enjoy it. There is one place to get in the water for everyone, so there was a long line, which took over an HOUR standing in full dry suit regalia. The float itself took less than 15 minutes. They said you could drink the water, but there were so many people swimming and kicking up debris it was full of particles. Guide tried to leave me with a fogged up mask in her haste to get us in the water until I insisted on cleaning it again.
This was supposed to be a bucket list adventure, but unfortunately, the experience was ruined by improper gear. Myself and another woman (both around 5'3") were given dry suits far too big for us. The staff attempted to shorten the legs with rubber bands so our flippers would stay on, but once I got in the water, that solution failed. My feet kept slipping out of the flippers, making it impossible to kick properly. Using my arms which we were instructed not to do, was the only way I could move. Doing so caused water to enter my suit. The instructor ultimately had to drag me and the other woman to the end, which resulted in water entering my snorkel and mouth. It was a stressful, frustrating experience rather than an enjoyable one. I was soaked by the end but thankfully, I had dry clothes to change into in their heated van. Snorkeling was the first stop of this golden circle tour and being wet and cold in Iceland is risky. 2 star because my boyfriend who’s suit fit had a great time. The rest of the golden circle tour was good. After this experience I saw there are other companies that ask for your height and weight to have a proper size suit on hand for your tour. please look for one that does this or use this knowledge to ensure you enter the water in a properly fitting dry suit.
The guides were awesome! Ferde took me out snorkeling and it was very smooth and she was super upbeat and happy to help with anything. I saw a lot of people complaining in the reviews about it being cold and uncomfortable, but remember you’re snorkeling in Iceland… so I found it more comfortable than I expected. Franklin was very funny knowledgeable about Iceland and the best tour guide I’ve had anywhere. I learned a lot more about Icelandic farming than I ever thought I would have.
This was our favorite tour and checked off a lot of musts for us. The tour bus picked us up and then we headed to Silfra for snorkeling. The ride is about an hour and we made 1 stop along the way. We then got to Silfra where we snorkeled. The instructors were amazing and it’s about 40 minutes of getting dressed and instructions before you actually snorkel. My wife and I brought a change of clothes but the dry suits work very well. I stripped down to my thermals and then put the dry suit on. Once in the water you snorkel for 40 minutes. They give you 10 minutes to decide if this is for you. After that you have to finish the swim. It’s a very easy swim where you can float most of the time. When we were done the only things that were wet were my forearm and feet and only a little wet. Def bring a change of socks. The gloves they give you are not warm and your hands will be cold but you forget about it as soon as you start snorkeling. The instructors also take pics as you snorkel. After this you get dropped off for the golden circle tour which was good. You get to see a giant waterfall, a geyser, and a huge crater. We also made a stop to see small Icelandic horse. This was our favorite tour and it is a long day. You can bring food/snacks but tour buses make frequent stops for bathroom/snacks. I highly recommend this trip and the only thing I can say that was bad was our tour driver was 25 minutes late picking us up for initial trip but other than that it was perfect!!!!
I have to say, I am extremely disappointed in this tour's coordination as my son was not able to meet up with them at the meeting point as it was confusing. My son took four other tours through Viator while in Iceland and they all went off without issue. The other providers communicated upfront and he was able to meet up with no issue at the designated spot. Unfortunately Arctic Adventures was not at the same caliber as the others. They did not communicate up front on the location as the other tour companies did. Although we received multiple emails before the tour with advertisements instead of valid information. My son went to the address from the original sign up, but it did not say bus stop #9. The local bus drivers had never heard of a bus stop #9. Tour companies are supposed to make it easy in a foreign country for tourists and Arctic Adventures made it more difficult and stressful. The email communication he received when they could not find him said we are waiting at bus stop #9. No address was provided even in that email. His phone was having coverage issues, so he did not get any calls. As is normal sometimes for travelers and should be expected by the company. He did reach out to the company on two occasions (only once did he reach someone). And he was told he had to rent a car to catch up with the bus. What would he have done with the car at a random location? They made no effort to help him get where he needed to be, even at additional cost. No suggestions of a taxi, bus, or anything other than to rent a car. Basically no help was provided at all. This was his last day in Iceland and it ended on a low note. it is just very disappointing and they would not even offer a credit or refund. Just repeated that he did not show up at the location. Just disappointing. Make sure if you book this tour you know exactly where the stop is located as they do not pick up at all hotels/hostels.
A full day of exploring some amazing sights in southwest Iceland, all a short distance from Reykjavik: Thingvellir National Park, Geysir hot springs (origin of our word "geyser"), the Kerid volcano crater lake, the awesome & massive Gullfoss waterfall, but the highlight for most of us was snorkeling the crystal clear glacial water of the Silfra fissure between the North American & Eurasian tectonic plates! Although just 2 degrees above freezing, we remained totally dry & (relatively) warm thanks to dry suits and our fantastic Arctic Adventures guides (thanks Sara!)
Snorkel part of the tour, the guides were patient and helpful as we were getting into the dry suits. The water was so clear although cold to the exposed areas. Golden Circle part, enjoyed the stops. Each one had their own uniqueness.
We've been waiting for a long time to snorkel at Silfra and it did not disappoint! Arctic Adventures was extremely professional and well prepared. Have never seen better visibility anywhere. Hot chocolate and cookies at the end was a perfect touch. Our guide Federica was outstanding and it could not have been a better experience!
The Silfra snorkeling between the tectonic plates was a once in a lifetime experience. I was worried about freezing my face, but after a minute or two, your face gets numb and you dont mind the cold as much. I did not realize that your head and hands would get wet too, and water did leak into my suit because apparently you are not supposed to move your head or hands too much, but I did not mind it. Could have stayed longer. You only need one layer underneath. The outer layer before the dry suit is provided. A change of clothes is needed, as you may get wet. In the summer, you do not need hiking boots. It is a short walk on pavement to the entry point. The guides were extremely professional and helpful. The Golden circle afterward was relaxing. The best stop was the waterfall and petting some Icelandic horses. The Golden Circle was very touristy and packed with people. Overall a great tout and experience.
We were picked up on time and our driver had clear introduction along the trip to the Thingvellir National Park. Our snorkel guide Kris was a professional and considerate person that he help my mom swim to the exit point without effort. Enjoy your adventure with Arctic Adventures !
We thoroughly enjoyed our full day tour with Arctic Adventures, which include a morning of snorkeling at the Silfra fissure and an afternoon Golden Circle tour. Our snorkel guide Mattia was a professional and inspired confidence during a snorkel trip that seemed intimidating (but was absolutely thrilling)! This was the best way to see a LOT of Iceland in one day.
Ivo our driver had great energetic vibes and made the tour memorable. Alex our snorkel guide was great too - her energy made me feel very calm and she was great at checking on everyone during the snorkel if we were okay. Vasco the other guide was also very friendly and helpful gearing up. The snorkel experience was amazing. So dreamy floating over the fissure experiencing the clear water and beautiful colours. The gearing up process was admittedly a bit chaotic and cold - but the drysuit was great at keeping the water out. Only the hands and face got wet for me - there were a couple of others who had very limited leakage. It is freezing gearing up though so be prepared - getting undressed though was fine. And the hot choc and biscuits after were a nice treat. Definitely recommend this tour - and they take some free photos too which is a great memory to keep :)
This is a tough one for me to evaluate and score. Parts were awesome and not so awesome. First - with regard to the size restrictions for snorkeling - especially in the winter - TAKE THEM SERIOUSLY My girlfriend and I went to Iceland for Christmas and booked this tour. One of the primary reasons we picked it was that it hit the Golden Circle AND Silfra. Dollar for the money it was a pretty good deal. Pickup: The bus was running a bit late., but did show up at the pickup point. Not sure if there was issue with the bus or a prior pickup. It was not a minibus but closer to a full-sized charter bus. There are no on-board restrooms which is fine as you are on less than 2 hours. Silfra: There are no changing facilities at Silfra and you change in the parking lot, basically stripping down to long underwear and a pair of socks to get in a fleece-like jumpsuit. Temps were approximately 13F wind chill well under. Recommend wearing a hat and mittens/gloves until the last minute. Your clothes go into an operator provided dry bag for your coat, snow pants/outer pants. Recommend that a FULL replacement of your under layers be packed in a personal dry bag inside the big one provided by the operator in the case that your dry suit leaks. Recommend that you bring a separate personally owned dry bag for your boots as they should go in last with your gloves/mittens and you do not want snow from the boots to drip down on your coat. Personally owned dry bags can be purchased on Amazon. After putting on the fleece jumpsuit (has no footies so you will still be in your own shoes). You begin putting on a dry suit. At this point boots come off. The dry suit has thing rubber sleeving at the wrists and kneck. You will want to make sure it is snug to the point of being a little uncomfortable. This is what prevents the water from entering the suit. My girlfriend is very petite and the wrists and neck were not tight enough. Rubber bands were used on the wrists and a "choker" was used at the neck. She experienced leaking at both the wrists and neck. (More on that later) Prep and walking to the platform where you enter the fissure are probably as long if not longer than the 30 minutes you spend in the fissure. The staff that got you prepped were super nice. Once in the fissure, you do a quick safety procedure and you're off. There is a point at which you can decide to go back. The water is crystal clear and it is almost like you are flying over a canyon. The suit keeps you floating and the current keeps you moving. There are no fish in the fissure (they do not go there probably because the temperature is a steady 33-34F). There are some fairly shallow parts but it was really cool to do. The operators take photos of your group as you move through the fissure. Your head and hands do get wet. I was worried that my head would get overly cold buy it wasn't. a big deal At the end there is another platform that you exit. It was cold enough the suits froze up on the walk back to the parking lot. They had to thaw us out to get us out of the suit. As I mentioned, my girlfriend's suit leaked (slow leak not like it rushed in but all clothing inside was wet). After removing the dry suit and fleece jumper she immediately put her coat on over her wet clothing - not the wisest choice as the inside of her coat ended up wet. This is why I recommend that you bring a full replacement of clothing for what you wear inside the fleece jumper. I on the other hand, remained dry as could be inside the dry suit. At the.end you get a link to the pictures to download them at your leisure. Geyser: The area has a building with several shops and dining options across the street from the geyser. My girlfriend bought new clothing here to replace the wet. The geyser is across the street and goes off every five minutes. There are number of steaming pools around. Pictures are above. Silfoss: Is a big waterfall in a canyon. There is both a lower observation and an upper. I really liked it. The upper also has shops and restaurants in a single building similar to geyser. The last part is that our tour bus had some issue with the heat. We basically stayed bundled up and were fine. A couple of the other folks were getting pretty feisty over it. Luckily by then we had replaced all of my girlfriend's clothing. Conclusion: The sites were all awesome and hitting the Golden Circle and Silfra in a single day was perfect for our schedule. I wish we had a little better understanding of the dressing process at Silfra and wish that we did a better job getting my girlfriend into completely dry clothes. Our guide as Silfra (Valerio) was AWESOME! The bus situation was what it was but we didn't let it ruin our day.
This was the best experience in Iceland! We were picked up on time and taken to the snorkelling. We had a great tour guide who was funny and informative. Our instructor for the snorkelling was called Rod. He was encouraging and took lots of photos for us that were available for us to download on the same day. It was such an amazing experience - I was originally really scared of how cold it was going to be but it was fine. The dry suit worked so well and we just had thin thermals on underneath which didn’t get wet at all. After we had another really great guide for the golden circle and we got to see everything in really good time. If you’re debating to do the snorkelling do it! You won’t regret it!!
Snorkeling in Sifla was incredible! Our teacher Pete was incredible! Thank you so much for this curse!

Due to weather conditions and high ground visibility only the snorkel trip went as planned (activity based) whereas the Golden Circle (sightseeing) was cancelled. Arctic Adventures upgraded me to the full day Golden Circle tour on another day and luckily I had a spare day to slot this in. If you have the time I would suggest giving more time to the Golden Circle as it deserves it. I have rated against primarily the snorkelling but also allow for customer service and subsequent tour that worked in my favour. Transfers were done by Peter and well arranged to ensure we got timely use of rest rooms without queues. As with all other tours by this company everything is well explained on the journey. Luckily it was not raining at Silfra as you need to change in the car park and I am not sure what the provision is for wet weather; maybe they allow use of the vans. Our snorkelling guide was Hugo who explained everything and helped us kit up. You wear a base layer (t shirt and tracksuit bottoms) and are provided with a thermal under-suit and commercial drysuit. You also get a neoprene hood and gloves together with mask, snorkel and fins. Additional bands are placed around the neck seal and wrist seals if necessary to try and prevent leakage. It is possible for minor leaks into the suit so you are advised to take a towel and spare clothes. I was lucky and stayed completely dry. It is a short walk to the entry point which is a steel staircase. The water in the fissure is glacial melt-water filtered through volcanic rock for 100+ years and is gin clear. The depths vary throughout the fissure which marks the divide between two tectonic plates but you only float and agree not to attempt free diving. There is a slight current running which means little physical exertion until you reach the lagoon area where you have to start swimming to reach the exit point which is again steel stairs. The walk back is slightly longer. You spend roughly 45 mins in the water and despite warning of cold I have to say at no point did I feel cold or numb. Our group was only small with Hugo leading plus 5 customers. I was a diving instructor many years ago and appreciate the difficulty of leading groups on monotonous dives where it can be like herding cats. Hugo did a great job of keeping everyone together and maintaining a cheerful disposition. He took plenty of photos of the group that were included as part of the tour and made available online. Credit to Arctic Adventures as plenty of other companies might see this as an excuse to exploit the customer. I have attached some photos and credit Hugo for these in part. Nice end after getting out of the diving kit is the hot chocolate and biscuits. Without a doubt a highlight of my holiday.
So amazing experience!!! It was cold on the day and I was afraid to enter the water, but after entering, I forgot the cold. The guide was kind and funny, I really had a good time.
I absolutely do NOT recommend Arctic Adventures as a company or business. I was physically at the tour destination in Iceland when I was informed by the instructor that I was not fit to participate. They need to be more up front about requirements and strict policies. I agree that safety is extremely important, but you must inform the consumer of all requirements before they end up on a cold bus in Iceland being told they are not allowed to participate and that they will not refund you. Right- you heard that folks, if not being able to participate wasn't enough, they are now refusing to refund me for the snorkeling portion of the trip. I was more then happy to continue to pay for the other portion of the tour ( Golden Circle) but just requested a reinbursment for the portion I was denied access to. This completely ruined a big portion of my trip. Awful customer service, please save your money and book with a better company.
We were picked up at the cruise terminal promptly at 8:30am and collected other guests for our small group tour (14). Our 1st stop was at the snorkeling site (1 hr drive). This was the highlight of the tour! We were at this site for roughly 3 hrs. Next we joined our group for the Golden Circle....geysers, waterfalls and tectonic plates. Long day, but we saw it all!
