This provider never showed up at the church....there was NO TOUR. I arrived at the meeting spot 15 minutes before the scheduled start time and waited 10 minutes after.
A fun and informative walk through downtown Reykjavík where Lalli takes you through the history of Iceland from before the settlement to the present day. Informative and fun walk.
The best unorthodox history of Iceland that I have heard.
Amazing walking tour experience with Lella. We covered the history of Iceland in 3 hours with lots of personal anecdotes to make things more tangible. The narrative was very well crafted and story telling was very engaging. Our family really enjoyed this tour - it was both educational & fun!
hello Lalli!!!! thanks for a great tour. we learned a lot about Iceland. The hotdogs were great too!
A truly enjoyable experience. Learned alot about Iceland in just a couple of hours with an Icelandic hotdog to top it off.
We had an absolutely amazing time with Lalli! He was incredibly knowledgeable about the real history of Iceland, and has agreeable opinions on seagulls. You'll have a good time booking a Funky History Tour! Great with kids too!
Very knowledgeable and personal guide. Walked most of downtown and tried a hot dog made with lamb. Very good.
30 years of traveling the world and this was our favorite tour ever. Lalli was incredible knowledge, great with the kids, and a fabulous storyteller. We highly recommend this tour and would gladly do it again.
Come hungry! Tour guide was pleasant and easygoing, food was delicious. This is well worth paying for - you will not be disappointed!
Lalli is an excellent, expressive storyteller who shared Iceland’s history in short segments as we toured the city, keeping our attention throughout the tour. His English skills are superb. And we even got to sample the famous hotdog!
The guide was knowledgeable well prepared witty and entertaining. Absolutely the best one can ask for!
Lalli did a great job. In 2 1/2 hours we got a walking tour of much of the central portion of Reykjavik, which came with an unvarnished version of 1,200 years of the history of Iceland. We walked through the Einar Jónsson sculpture garden, wandered through the streets with Lalli pointing out buildings and houses with distinctive styles. We went into City Hall, which has an amazing three-dimensional map of Iceland that is the largest map of the country in the world. Lalli pointed out the various geological features (glaciers, active volcanoes, fjords, and towns). While we were walking He also highlighted the locations of several museums and other places to visit. A very well spent morning, learning more about Iceland in general and Reykjavik’s history and development.
The Funky History Walking Tour of Reykjavik was definitely a highlight of our Iceland trip, and that's saying something in such an amazing country. I almost didn't buy tickets for our three teenage boys expecting them to be "bored" but they all said it was one of their favorite parts of the trip! The three hours literally flew by as our tour guide Lalli walked us through the history of the country and city in the most engaging way. He was truly an fantastic storyteller, spacing out the landmarks on our walk with perfect places to sit and listen, and a cliffhanger to segue into the next location keeping all ages locked in the whole time. He even included famous Icelandic hot dogs for everyone so none of our kids even had a chance to complain about being hungry. (It also helped that we had a beautiful sunny morning for walking.) I now have an even greater appreciation for this amazing country and history. I can't recommend this tour highly enough - thank you Lalli!

We had a great tour with Lalli despite the terrible rain. He covered the entire history of Iceland in an entertaining storytelling manner. Tour started at the Leif Erickson statue at Hallgrimskirkja Church and ended at Bæjarins Beztar Pylsar, the oldest hot dog stand in tow, with the famous Icelandic Hotdog. This tour is well worthbit.
Lalli was awesome, he was extremely knowledgeable and answered all the questions my group had to the best of his abilities. The tour goes from Icelands beginning to the current modern history today. The traditional Icelandic hotdog was a pleasant suprise at the end also, try it with everything you will be delighted.
Our guide Lalli was knowledgeable, personable and a lot of fun. Gave us great insights into the people, culture and history of Iceland while visit places in Reykjavik we never would have seen otherwise. This was an excellent tour.
Lalli was fantastic, sharing lots of information with humor. Our family of 5 (three generations) comprised the whole group; grandparents had no trouble keeping up. Discussions of Iceland’s history was portioned out at several locations where there were opportunities to sit and listen. The 10-year-old in our party enjoyed the leisurely pace and that Lalli pointed out things that we could see—old buildings, geographic features, and places we wouldn’t have found on our own. Value was excellent: ~7,500 ISK per adult and free for kids 11 and under. We got a fantastic overview of Reykjavík.
Lalli was an excellent storyteller on our first day in Iceland. The tour was well worth the cost Even though the weather was challenging. He was able to find a few spots to keep us dry.
Lali was a great guide, full of stories and warmth. We learned a lot about Iceland and its people on this tour
Lalli did an excellent job steering us around giving fun insights into Icelandic history and folklore, all with a wink and a smile. Two-and-a-half hours, but it flew by as we walked through sculpture gardens, into city hall and strolled by notable buildings. There even was a great complimentary hot dog from Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur that brought this perfect tour to a wonderful conclusion.
Lalli was an amazing tour guide. He covered the entire history of Iceland as we strolled around the centre of Reykjavik. His talk was entertaining and very well delivered, with nary a slip up. We got a tasty hot dog at an iconic stand near the end of the tour. It ran almost exactly to its stated 2.5 hour run time.
Fun way to learn about Reykjavik and Iceland! My family and I enjoyed this tour very much! We were able to walk around the city and see many of the sights and landmarks with our guide. And the hot dog at the end of the tour was delicious! I would recommend this tour to anyone looking to explore the city with a very fun and low key vibe!
This experience was the highlight of my time in Reykjavik! I learned so much from Lolli and genuinely feel like I understand more of Iceland's history. This tour is worth it and I highly recommend booking it!
Lalli was such a great tour guide. This is my favorite thing we did in Reykjavik! We learned so much and visited interesting places. Lalli is engaging and funny and tells great stories. My kids (10 and 14) loved it too.
Lillo was a knowledgeable and excellent guide, sharing the history of his home town.
This tour was such a great way to learn about Reykjavik and the history of Iceland! Our guide, Lalli, was joyful, kind and extremely knowledgeable! It was the perfect amount of time and well worth the money! You even get a famous Icelandic hot dog to end the tour. We would definitely recommend doing this as an activity during your trip to Iceland!
Our experience with Lalli on the Funky History Walking Tour was nothing short of fantastic. Lalli provides great insight into Icelandic history and people and delivers it with a wonderful sense of humor. The tour is perfectly paced and our family group came away with a very helpful overview of Icelandic history. Lalli is engaging and enjoyable. This is a great(and fun) way to learn about Iceland and Reykjavik in a tour lasting several hours. Definitely a great choice.
We absolutely loved our history walk with Lalli. In 2 1/2 hours we not only saw pretty much all of Reykjavik, but also got an extremely comprehensive history of Iceland. It was the perfect way to kick off our trip and now we feel so well-versed and ready to explore the rest of the country. Lalli is a great storyteller and we traveled with our teenage kids and they were enthralled as well. 10/10 recommend, a must-do tour when visiting!
Had a great time with Lalli guiding us through some Icelandic history. His storytelling and logical walk through time made this a fun and enjoyable tour. A really good experience for a reasonable price. Thanks Lalli!
We recently took the Funky History Walking Tour with Lalli and had a great experience. There were just three of us on that day so it was essentially a private tour, with plenty of opportunity to ask follow up questions about the sites on the tour and to have conversations with Lalli. Lalli is a master storyteller and shared lots of interesting bits about the history and culture of Reykjavik and of Iceland. We would highly recommend this tour option for anyone who wants something that feels more personalized and goes beyond the typical walking tour.
We had an awesome time with our guide Lalli on our Funky Tour of Reykjavik. He walked and talked us through about 1200 years of history in a very engaging and amusing fashion. He pointed out lots of great dos and don’ts for us to consider the rest of the trip. For sure, have the hotdog and skip the fermented shark!
We had the best time with Lalli! He is so knowledgeable, passionate and accommodating. It was raining quite a bit so we were not sure about going for the tour but so so glad we did. Very informational, engaging and you get to hang out with a cool earnest guy telling you all about Iceland!
I didn’t know what to expect, but it wasn’t ‘funky’ in the typical sense; no disco music or polyester bell bottoms 🕺🪩. Our guide, Lalli, was a fantastic storyteller! He offered a local tour & a comprehensive Icelandic history lesson in bite size chunks from cleverly planned public oratory locations. The ‘funky’ tour concluded with an unexpected yet heartwarming moral. We signed up for the tour to learn something about the city & it’s history. We got an excellent version of that, but more importantly we discovered a little bit about human nature - we are all flawed, but can learn and improve. Both my 16 year old son & I thoroughly enjoyed the lesson…and the hot dog!!
Absolutely blew us away with the detail, pacing, presentation, warmth of the guide, everything! One of the best city walking tours I’ve ever done and I have done many. This is the tour you want and need. And a great value.
Outstanding! Our guide provided a fun, comprehensive introduction to Iceland. We thoroughly enjoyed our Funky History Walking Tour, gaining an understanding of how early and recent events formed today’s Iceland — while exploring fascinating neighborhoods. A great way to beat jet lag!
It was awesome and a must do. Story telling was both funny and great narration of historic events . Our guide was wonderful, funny and knowledgeable.
Our tour with Lalli was one of the highlights of our trip. He was incredibly informative, entertaining, and passionate about Icelandic history and culture. You could tell he genuinely loves what he does, and his storytelling kept us engaged the entire time. We learned so much while also laughing and having an amazing experience exploring Reykjavík!
With only a 23 hour layover in Reykjavik, this was the perfect experience to get an overall snapshot of Iceland's history. Lalli is a great storyteller and a delightful person to learn from.
Lalli was our Reykjavik tour guide and he was excellent. He started with the settlement by Viking explorers, and then discussed the history in chronological order to the present day. He didn't overwhelm with information. He simply discussed the history in a fun and entertaining way. During our tour, Lalli pointed out several interesting sites and statues. We even stopped at a hot dog stand where we sampled a traditional Icelandic hot dog. Lalli helped to make our first day in Iceland very enoyable.
Lalli was a great tour guide. He told interesting, funny, and poignant stories about Iceland and its history. He showed us the major landmarks in the city and gave great recommendations about which attractions to visit and how to save money on our trip. I highly recommend this tour!
This walking tour of Reykjavik was on of the best tours we have been on in any city. My husband and I travel to many countries and have booked tours like this through Airbnb and Trip Advisors and by far this was one to remember, just fantastic. Lalli is a true historian and was engaging and funny! We would book additional tours with Funky Iceland on our next trip back.
What an entertaining and educational way to learn about the history of this unique country! Lalli kept us very engaged with information and fun facts about the land, people, and culture. He's a great guide and we highly recommend taking his tour - you even get a famous Icelandic hotdog at the end!
Our guide, Lalli, did a really extraordinary job showing us around the commercial area of Reykjavík and telling us a lot of fascinating information about Iceland’s history. This tour was fantastic fun. Lalli is a great guy who really knows his stuff, and I would say, if you want to get started learning about this wonderful city and country, this tour is where you should begin. You’ll love it!
Lally was a fantastic tour guide—funny, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable about Iceland. The time flew by, with plenty of stops to relax and take it all in. A truly lovely afternoon.
Lalli was a fantastic tour guide and made our time in Reykjavík truly enjoyable. He created a warm, engaging atmosphere and encouraged questions throughout the tour. His knowledge is impressive, and his storytelling brings Iceland’s history to life in a memorable way. The pacing was perfect, with thoughtful stops to rest and take in the surroundings while he shared insights about his beautiful country. Lalli also offered helpful local tips that added extra value to the experience. You can tell he genuinely cares about his guests. I highly recommend touring with Lalli—it was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. Five stars!
Highly recommend that any visitor take a tour with Funky Iceland. Lalli was knowledgeable, engaging, and wove Iceland's history into a story with a strong through line. The funky history tour went well beyond the typical city tour that consists of simply pointing out landmarks and stating facts. He also shared tips for where to eat, which places to visit, and how to save a bit of money - perfect for my first day in Iceland.
Fabulous, it was a fascinating experience, really brought the history to life. Gained so much more from my visit by doing this tour. Would highly recommend.
