Thanks to Thor we had a great adventure and learned a lot about Iceland and Reykjavík history. The weather was freezing rain October 30. But Thor went above and beyond to make our tour successful

My wife and I absolutely loved our time with Stefan! Money well spent! Stefan gave us a great experience with the history of Iceland and Reykjavik. Our tour was about 2.5-3 hours long but due to the amount of information presented if felt less than that. We (wife and I) would have gladly continued our journey learning more about the culture and history of this great place. We even enjoyed our 3rd experience with the famous Icelandic hotdog, just can’t get enough of that. We highly encourage anyone coming to Iceland to take this “becoming Icelandic passport “ course.
This is a first rate organization. This is our third time taking one of their tours. Thor was a wealth of Icelandic history today . Learn a little bit about the history and a part of Reykjavik you probably just walked by. One of our best decisions during our time in Reykjavik!
This is such an interesting tour! You get to visit so many less-visited corners of Reykjavik, and you hear so many interesting stories about Iceland and life in the country. Stefan was an incredible guide, and he had so many stories to share! The name of this tour is legit - you learn so much about the city, you definitely do feel like you're "becoming Icelandic". We've been sharing so many of the stories to friends and family since we got back home, so the tour definitely does its job!
This city walk tour was a wonderful way to start our vacation in Iceland! Stevie/Stefan is an excellent host and guide to the city. He shared so much history, some ecology/geology and a little bit of magic and mysticism! He was very welcoming and engaging and a joy to be with. He is so full of knowledge and even better he shared firsthand experience of growing up in Reykjavik! I highly recommend this as a kickoff to any trip in Iceland. The passport we were given is a great take home reminder of all we saw and learned and yes, I did order my hotdog as eina með öllu – well maybe not exactly “one with everything” as I left off the onions. I will share this with any of my friends going to Iceland.
Great tour of the city! Learned a lot about the culture and the city. Stevie, our guide, was awesome! Funny, energetic, great stories and somewhat of a celebrity in the city.
On Monday 14 September we completed the City Tour in a small group tour with our Guide - Thor. The full day of fun was packed with so much information and fun in Reykjavík, Iceland. Thor presented Icelandic history, Norse Mythology, fun facts about Iceland and how he became a Tour Guide. Throughout our City Tour, Thor gave us historical background on the various people, cultural sites and beliefs, buildings, statues, streets to help us understand how Reykjavík and Iceland was settled and its history. Thor is an excellent host and representative of Iceland. We continue our visit to Iceland on a very high note and most memorable experience!
What a fun, informative, well paced amble! This tour was a great introduction to downtown Reykjavik. Our tour guide Stefan (Stevie) was amazing and fun! Stefan did an excellent job of keeping our small group together during the tour. The tour was packed with fun, useful information, without being overwhelming. This experience far exceeded our expectations! Doing this tour along with The Wake Up Reykjavik Food Walk on our first day in Reykjavik set us up beautifully for further self exploration of the city over the next two days! Thank you so much to the Wake Up Reykjavik team for making this happen!
Stefan was a wonderful tour guide and we really enjoyed his information and the amusing side stories like visiting the swings where young couples share their first kiss and walking by his high school. It gave the tour a lot of personality. We did this tour just a few hours after landing in KEF and it was a great introduction to the city of Reykjavik.
After many years of years traveling one of the best things I began doing in every new destination is book a walking or cycling tour. Gaining all the local knowledge, stories, history and the unexpected questions always sets the travel experience up right. Ptor was a world of knowledge that I had no idea about regarding Icelandic people and culture. Reykjavik is a deceptive town and you can wonder randomly thinking that there are only great bakeries. Our wonderful guide changed all that with many fascinating stories. A real education. The “passport” was a nice touch. #pettareddast #einamedollutakk!
Absolutely loved the Becoming Icelandic tour! Very informative and the guide, Stevie, was really engaging 👍 The challenges were fun and we loved the hot dog! 😃🌭 A great start to our fabulous week in Iceland, thank you ☺️🇮🇸
Our guide, "Stevie", was fantastic! He added humor to the historical facts making the tour so much more enjoyable. Pair this tour with the Walking Food Tour to get a fuller picture of Icelandic culture
This was our first time in Iceland and this was the first tour of the first full day of our trip. We were informed that it was a newly developed tour, as this was only the sixth time that it was given. Stevie was a humorous, kind, thoughtful and very well-informed guide. The walk lasted between 1.5-2 hours. The content of the tour was thoughtfully chosen, and its interactive nature inspired us to learn more of the history of Reykjavik and Iceland. Well worth the money, highly recommended! Bravo, Wake Up Reykjavik!
We had an amazing time! Stevie was a great tour guide. He was both fun and informative.
Thank you so much for the amazing tour and experience into authentic Icelandic culture and backstreets
Really fun and informative walk around Reykjavik. A nice slow stroll with frequent stops for information to be given, the passports are a nice touch especially for younger participants. We had Stephan as our guide who was very knowledgeable and friendly 10/10
We had a great time in Reykjavík on the cruise and doing the “Becoming Icelandic” tour through Wake Up Reykjavík. Our guide, Stefán, was amazing! Turns out that we were only the third ever group to do this tour. We were given a “passport” at the beginning of the tour and then went around the city exploring and seeing things that most tourists wouldn’t see or do. At the end, we got a stamp in our passport book that we were officially Icelandic. If you ever find yourself in this beautiful city and country, I highly recommend it!
We chose this walk as it seemed a bit different and more engaging than other walks and we were right. It was a perfect walk for our family - great mix of information, fun facts, not overloaded with historical facts etc., and we loved the good vibes! Our guide Stefan was engaging, fun, approachable, and knowledgeable. He also went the extra mile by adding a personal touch to the walk. We went daughter, mum and grandma and all generations enjoyed. Length was also perfect - not too long or too short. Highly recommended!
