The trip is fun, enjoyable and informative. The tour guide Rocky has nice play list that matches the places that we visited. He also advise us which spot has the nicest view for every place. He also recommand us where to find the nicest food. I really enjoy his tour. Fantastic 4

Itinerary
Day 1
1
Þingvellir National Park is the historic site where Iceland’s first parliament, the Althingi, was established in 930 AD. Recognized for its cultural and geological significance, it is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Geysir Geothermal Area is a unique natural site, known for its bubbling hot springs and steam vents. Here, you can witness Strokkur, an active geyser that erupts every few minutes, shooting boiling water up to 25 meters into the air.
Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a place of both geological and historical significance. It’s where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates meet and drift apart by about two centimeters each year. This is also the site where the Althingi, Iceland’s national parliament, was established in 930 AD—marking the founding of one of the world’s first republics.
Your minibus will take you to your accommodation in Hvolsvöllur, away from light pollution and city noise. With clear skies and a bit of luck, you'll have a great chance to witness the Northern Lights right outside your door.
Day 2
2
Seljalandsfoss is a stunning waterfall that you can walk behind, offering a unique view from all angles. It's one of the few waterfalls in the world where you can experience the cascade from the inside out.
Skógafoss is a powerful waterfall where the Skógaá River plunges 60 meters over a cliff into a narrow gorge. From there, the water flows through the landscape on its way to the Atlantic Ocean, creating a breathtaking natural scene.
Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach is a striking coastal site where powerful Atlantic waves crash against dramatic basalt columns rising from the cliffs. The black volcanic sand and unique rock formations make it one of Iceland’s most iconic and photogenic beaches.
Included Glacier Hike on Sólheimajökull: Experience the thrill of hiking on the mighty Sólheimajökull Glacier, one of South Iceland’s most impressive natural wonders. This guided adventure offers a moderate hike across glacial ice streaked with volcanic ash, surrounded by otherworldly landscapes that feel like walking on the moon.
The final stop of the day is the charming village of Vík í Mýrdal, where you'll spend the night. With little light pollution, Vík offers excellent conditions for spotting the Northern Lights right from the village, weather permitting.
Day 3
3
Breiðamerkursandur, also known as Diamond Beach, is a black sand shore famous for the sparkling icebergs that wash up from the nearby glacier lagoon as they drift toward the Atlantic Ocean. These ice chunks glisten like diamonds against the dark sand, creating a stunning and unique landscape.
Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon is one of Iceland’s most popular attractions. This vast lake, filled with floating icebergs from glacial meltwater, offers breathtaking views and wildlife spotting opportunities. In winter, hundreds of seals gather here to hunt, adding to the lagoon’s natural charm.
Inside Europe’s largest glacier, Vatnajökull, you’ll explore the stunning Crystal Ice Cave. This breathtaking experience lets you see natural ice formations sculpted over time—a truly unforgettable and picture-perfect moment.
Hvannadalshnjúkur, Iceland’s highest peak at 2,110 meters, is part of the crater rim of Öræfajökull, one of the country’s most powerful volcanoes. This towering summit offers dramatic views and is a prominent feature of Iceland’s volcanic landscape.
Day 4
4
On your fourth day, you’ll explore the East Fjords of Iceland, known for its stunning mountain ridges and unique wildlife, including the only area in Iceland where wild reindeer are sometimes spotted. The majestic Vatnajökull glacier towers to the west as you pass peaceful fishing villages, reflecting the region’s deep-rooted fishing heritage. Your first stop is the charming village of Djúpivogur, a member of the Cittaslow movement, dedicated to enhancing quality of life by embracing a slower, more relaxed pace.
One of Iceland’s most beautiful mountains welcomes you to the East Fjords. The symmetrical, pyramid-shaped Búlandstindur mountain towers over your first stop in the region.
Local farmers Helga and Siggi will welcome you to their farm, Finnstaðir, for a unique encounter with the iconic Icelandic horse. Known for their gentle temperament and friendly nature, these horses are perfect for riders of all levels, from beginners to experienced equestrians.
In addition to elves, trolls, and other mythical creatures, Iceland is famous for its own sea monster, the Lagarfljótsormur, often compared to Scotland’s Loch Ness Monster. This legendary serpent is said to inhabit Lake Lagarfljót and has inspired countless stories and folklore over the centuries, with the last reported sighting by a local farmer in 2012. Nearby, you’ll find Hallormsstaðarskógur, Iceland’s largest forest, located on the shores of the lake.
Vök Baths is an optional geothermal retreat located on the stunning Lake Urriðavatn, available at your own expense. Here, you can relax in some of Iceland’s purest hot spring waters, soaking in floating pools on the lake or enjoying the onshore hot pools, outdoor pool bar, sauna, and cold tunnel with a mist shower. It’s a perfect way to unwind after exploring the East Fjords, with the chance to see the Northern Lights on clear nights while you soak.
Day 5
5
The surreal Námafjall geothermal area lies near the Námaskarð Pass, connecting you to Lake Mývatn. Here, vibrant sulfurous mud springs and steaming fumaroles showcase the geothermal power within the Krafla volcano fissure zone.
Dimmuborgir, meaning "Dark Castles" or "Dark Cities," is a vast area of uniquely shaped lava fields near Lake Mývatn. These unusual formations were created when lava flowed into wet marshlands, resulting in eerie and dramatic lava structures.
Lake Mývatn and its surroundings are highly volcanic, with nine eruptions occurring between 1975 and 1984 and a continental drift measured at 4.8 meters. The lake is rich in Arctic char and drains into the Laxá River, renowned as one of the world’s best brown trout fishing rivers. This region is also among the coldest areas in Iceland during winter.
Goðafoss, meaning "Waterfall of the Gods" and pronounced "GO-thuh-foss," is one of Iceland’s most stunning waterfalls. It is also steeped in rich history, making it a must-see natural landmark.
Your final destination is Akureyri, known as the capital of the north and a key port and fishing center in Iceland. You’ll spend the night here, and if the skies are clear, you may have the chance to see the Northern Lights dancing above the town.
Day 6
6
Known as the Capital of the North, this hip and charming town has a population of around 20,000. Its warm atmosphere and unique touches, like heart-shaped stop signs at traffic lights, make it a memorable place to visit.
The small town of Hauganes offers plenty to explore. Take a stroll around its charming harbor and visit the beautiful black sand beach, all set against the backdrop of graceful, towering mountains and the vast ocean.
From the small fishing village of Hauganes, you’ll embark on a boat ride to Eyjafjörður Fjord for whale watching. Northern Iceland is globally recognized as one of the best places to see whales, giving you a chance to witness some of the largest creatures on Earth up close.
The final stop on Day 6 is Grábrók Crater, a well-shaped volcanic crater formed by an eruption two to three thousand years ago, surrounded by moss-covered lava fields. Located just minutes from your next rest stop, Grábrók is also an excellent place to catch the Northern Lights if the sky is clear.
Day 7
7
Our first stop on Snæfellsnes is Gerðuberg, home to an impressive cluster of hexagonal basalt columns. This site features some of the largest and most striking basalt formations in Iceland.
At Ytri-Tunga, you’ll find a rare white sand beach, uncommon in Iceland, where most beaches are black. This spot is also known as a seal colony, where you might see seals relaxing on the rocks.
Tucked away on Iceland’s west coast, the Snæfellsnes Peninsula is home to the quaint, black wooden church of Búðir. This charming church is one of Iceland’s most popular wedding venues.
Arnarstapi, once a lively fishing village beneath the pyramid-shaped Mount Stapafell, is now a picturesque coastal village famous for its stunning cliffs formed by glowing magma meeting the wild Atlantic waves. Known as one of Iceland’s most beautiful harbors, erosion has shaped striking stone arches and a remarkable marine geyser here. Take a scenic walk along the coastline while your guide shares tales of Bárður, the half-man, half-troll, and his legendary misdeeds in the area.
At the tip of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula stands the majestic Snæfellsjökull Glacier, a stratovolcano that last erupted around 200 AD. This glacier is one of Iceland’s most famous landmarks, largely because it serves as the entrance to a passage leading to the center of the earth in Jules Verne’s novel Journey to the Center of the Earth.
The Londrangar Basalt Cliffs feature uniquely formed remnants of ancient volcanic dikes rising dramatically from the sea. These striking basalt pillars are a stunning example of Iceland’s volcanic geology and coastal beauty.
Djúpalónssandur is a stunning small black sand beach accessible by a footpath that winds through a lava landscape filled with towering moss-covered volcanic formations. This unique setting offers visitors a chance to explore Iceland’s dramatic volcanic terrain before reaching the picturesque shoreline.
Your final stop is the photogenic Kirkjufell, also known as Church Mountain, often called Iceland’s most photographed peak. Fans of the TV series Game of Thrones may recognize it as Arrowhead Mountain, a famous filming location from the show.
Day 8
8
The awe-inspiring Hraunfossar, or Lava Falls, is a stunning and unique natural phenomenon. It features streams of water flowing over a stretch of 900 meters from the Hallmundarhraun lava fields.
Barnafoss, or Children’s Fall, is famous for its dark history. According to legend, two children fell into the waterfall on Christmas Day after refusing to go to church.
Embark on an unforgettable journey into Víðgelmir, Iceland’s largest lava cave. Explore its vast chambers and unique volcanic formations on this epic adventure.
Deildartunguhver, located on a scenic farm, is Europe’s largest and most powerful hot spring. It produces an impressive 180 liters per second of water at 100°C.
The small village of Reykholt is one of Iceland’s most important historical sites and has been a cultural center for centuries. It was home to Snorri Sturluson, one of Iceland’s best-known authors, who lived there from 1206 to 1241.
You will arrive back in Reykjavik in the afternoon, marking the end of your unforgettable Iceland tour. From here, you can carry wonderful memories of your journey across this incredible country.

The best trip I’ve ever had, without a doubt, and it was all thanks to Tröll and our guide, John. He was punctual, had amazing energy, was incredibly smart and truly passionate about what he does. It is absolutely worth every penny. The experience, the routes, the attention to detail, and all the interesting facts he shared along the way made the whole experience truly magical.
Our tour guide was John, and to be honest we could not have a better gruide to explore this magnificent island! The tour is well organized, with adequate time for sighseeing and a very genuine experience with John who loves to share facts about history, geography, geology and Icelandic trivia all around the trip! Overall the experience is unique and highly recommended for true travellers and explorers of this faraway land. If you plan to travel to Iceland, Troll and John is a guarantee to view all that this island has to offer in depth.
Review for John, an Absolute Legend – Best Guide Ever! I am writing this review to give the highest possible praise to our incredible guide, John. He doesn't just do his job; he goes above and beyond in every single way, making this the trip of a lifetime for all of us. John's route mastery and timing are nothing short of genius. He managed our schedule so perfectly that we arrived at every major site right when the crowds cleared out. Because of his expert timing, we captured absolutely epic, blockbuster-quality photos. When I posted them on social media, my friends literally commented, "Is there no one else at the end of the world?!" Having these iconic spots entirely to ourselves felt like pure magic. Beyond his incredible logistics, John is an absolute wealth of knowledge. His tours are deeply educational, and everyone in our group knew they needed to pay close attention because you learn so much from him. He delivers all of this fascinating information with a brilliant sense of humour that kept the atmosphere light, fun, and engaging the entire time. What truly sets John apart as an elite professional is his dedication. Even when we were on a tight schedule, he somehow managed to squeeze out extra time to take us to bonus, off-the-beaten-path stops. Guiding is hard work, and the fact that John willingly added extra stops to our itinerary while keeping us perfectly on time shows his immense work ethic and dedication to customer satisfaction. John is also incredibly caring and attentive to the finer details. He went out of his way to remind everyone about biosecurity regulations and what items we wouldn't be allowed to bring back to our home countries. On top of that, I lost a part of the zip on my luggage, John actually went out of his way to find it in the back of the bus for me—a small gesture that speaks volumes about his genuine care for his guests. Thanks to John's excellent recommendations for horse riding. They are such beautiful animals—incredibly cute, strong, and sturdy. To me, they looked about half the size of an Aussie police horse, but they are so full of character. John is hands down the best guide we have ever encountered. Also I was recommended by my colleague to the travel company of Troll .is.
Góðan daginn! We had a great time. The tour was well organized, enjoyable and fun. We visited all the places we wanted to visit. A special shoutout to our tour guide, Rocky. He was attentive to everyone in the group, very professional, and very knowledgeable about all the place we visited. He has a lot of stories, which made the ride entertaining. I like his play list, he always has a song for every moment, at every location, made the tour fun and added a special touch to the tour Thanks Rocky and Troll, for making it such a great experience!!! Cheers! Fantastic 4
John was an excellent and dedicated tour guide who made sure everything ran smoothly throughout our journey. He planned our time very well and went out of his way to include many additional unique attractions and experiences along the way. My wife and I travelled all the way from Australia, and we were extremely happy with this trip. We experienced so many breathtaking natural landscapes and fascinating cultural and historical sights. To top it all off, we were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights during the final two days of our tour! Everyone in our group got along wonderfully with John, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. This was truly a special and unforgettable journey for both of us. A big thank you to John for making this trip so memorable!
Our tour guide Rokki was awesome! He was very friendly, helpful and funny throughout the trip. He made the tour enjoyable and always made sure everyone was comfortable. Really appreciate his effort and positive attitude. Highly recommended! Thanks, Rokki, for the great experience! It will be a memorable for me for this trip.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Exceptional 8-Day Iceland Tour with Rocky! We just completed an unforgettable 8-day round-Iceland small group tour, and we couldn’t have asked for a better guide and driver than Rocky! He did an incredible job wearing both hats, keeping our journey smooth, safe, and filled with laughter. Rocky is incredibly nice, hilarious, and made the whole group feel like family right from the start. Throughout the trip, Rocky was super proactive in tracking the weather and keeping us updated on Northern Lights opportunities so we wouldn't miss out. He also went above and beyond by making extra stops along the way whenever we wanted to capture photos of Iceland’s breathtaking scenery. Beyond being a great guide, he really cared about our experience and budget. He shared fantastic local food recommendations and thoughtfully advised us to buy groceries and snacks ahead of time to help us save money. If you are planning a trip to Iceland, I highly recommend booking a tour with Rocky. Thank you, Rocky, for making our Icelandic adventure so special!
Iceland was gorgeous, such diverse country side. Hikes were great. Things to note: 6 of our 8 days/nights the guide/driver had their 6yo daughter with us, not what we booked for, came with varying moments. Accom is often basic with minimal restaurant availability. Food is expensive. 6 days is enough, day 7/8 can be missed or Snaelfellsnes peninsula can be done other ways. Driver/guide change day 7/8 plus a lot of waiting around on day 7 - driver late/miscommunication in picking us up maybe?? Got several different stories. Hire items great idea. Not much room in bus eg: tight leg space, minimal day pack space. Lots of companies do same trip, do your research and get your monies worth.
It was wonderful tour with our responsible and good driver cum tour guide YON. Highly recommend the glacier walk, was super fun 😍
The tour is great, we did a lot of activities per day without feeling rushed, it is just the correct amount of activities to enjoy in a whole day in order to support the next day. Our guide Jon was excellent in driving and explaining curious things about Iceland and the places we visited. He also is very funny doing jokes to make the trip more enjoyable. Unfortunately we had a weather warning for the last 2 days and the operator troll.is had to cancel the activities for the last day 8 (we only had chance to do half day activities on day 7 and went back to Reikiavik for security and avoid being stranded in the north of Iceland. We had a refund for last day but we would appreciated if we could have decided the hotel location in Reikiavik as we had a reservation next day and the hotel was far from our next hotel so we had to pay extra 3500isk for the taxi to take us to our hotel. We requested this but they had already done the arrangements for the entire group and we were not left on the original pick up point where the tour began, that is a thing to improve in case the operator have to cancel as many people plan according to the drop points they choose.
Enjoyed my 8 days Iceland tour very, very much! We saw everything we wanted to see, and experienced everything we wanted to enjoy. No regrets! Clear and responsive communication from Troll, right from our early enquiries to the very end of the tour. The itinerary was well planned and flexibly adjusted due to weather. Not only was there no compromise, but our awesome guide, John, went above and beyond by making extra stops and giving us surprises - the beautiful double rainbow, extra stunning waterfalls and mountains, fascinating stones, reindeer Villy, fluffy sheeps, and aurora (i still believe this is John’s surprise haha! We couldnt see it until the very last evening. When we asked him to surprise us with aurora, it appeared 😁). And John gives good geography lessons! Truly inspired by John’s passion and thoughtful heart. It’s the heart that is most important. Thank you John for all your hard and heart work! Thank you for keeping us safe and happy! We are proud of you! 😁 Keep up the awesomeness and happiness! I’m also glad to have met new friends along the way. Our tourmates were all so kind and warm, they made this trip even more enjoyable and memorable. This beautiful journey will forever be etched in my heart ❤️ 🎶 Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive~~~ 🎶 Ending off with one of the awesome songs we enjoyed on our bus 😁
The trip had great variety and quality, taking us to basically all of Iceland's best nature highlights. Lots of spectacular sights and some great activities. Our guide, Gyl, did a fantastic job of shepherding around the group, dynamically adapting the schedule based on weather/availability, and more generally helping making sure everyone had a great experience.
We had a truly wonderful trip to Iceland! We got to see everything we wanted to see and even more. John was an amazing guide who went above and beyond to make our experience unforgettable. His knowledge of Iceland’s geography was impressive, and he took us to extra stops along the way and helped us find the Northern Lights. He was also incredibly helpful with arranging the tours, making everything smooth and stress-free. John has a great sense of humor and is genuinely dedicated to showing us the best of Iceland. What we especially appreciated was that he never took us to overpriced tourist traps. Instead, he always recommended local food and authentic places to eat, which was really important to us. Despite Iceland’s unpredictable and often challenging weather, John did everything he could to help us make the most of our tour and experience as much as possible. The people in our group were also so friendly, and we had a great time together. We would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone planning a trip to Iceland! One important tip for future travelers: Iceland’s weather and temperatures can be extremely unpredictable, so be sure to dress in layers and come prepared for changing conditions. Overall, an incredible experience with a wonderful guide. We couldn’t have asked for a better trip!
I cannot thank Iskren enough for making this journey so extraordinary! From the very beginning, his warm and kind personality instantly put everyone at ease. What truly blew me away was his incredible depth of knowledge—every historical site and local story came alive through his fascinating explanations. Beyond his professionalism as a guide, he went completely above and beyond when I accidentally left my phone behind. He handled the stressful situation with so much patience, care, and efficiency to help me track it down. Iskren is an absolute gem of a guide, and I would wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone traveling here. Thank you for everything, Iskren!
We had an incredible time on this eight-day tour around Iceland. We saw so many beautiful sights, learned a great deal about this unique and fascinating country, and came home with amazing photos. Everything was organized seamlessly, making it easy to relax and enjoy the adventure. Our fearless leader, Gyl, was simply fantastic. He cared deeply about us having a great time and continually adjusted the trip to make it as enjoyable as possible. He was endlessly accommodating, gave excellent recommendations about restaurants and auroras, and was great fun to travel with.
Had a great adventure and unforgettable memories with friends and our awesome guide/driver Jon Hilmmarson! He drove us around safely in a stormy, icy and windy weather, showing us all the beauty nature of Iceland, and his humor taking the extra step to please all our requests. Thank you Jon and Troll's customer service team on their prompt response and assistance prior our trip) for this unforgettable journey!!! David & Stephanie
What a fantastic way to experience Iceland. We visited so many places and carried out a lot of activities to give us some great memories. Our guide Siggi was exceptional and great fun to be with. He really bought the group together and was able to impart good local knowledge.
This was our first time taking a guided tour and we were pleasantly surprised how enjoyable it was! We met other amazing and friendly world travelers, the minibus was comfortable enough (even for my over 6ft. tall spouse), numerous stops for food and bathrooms, and because we were passengers, we were able to witness and notice more of the stunning landscape of Iceland as we went along. We are also very happy that we didn’t have to plan the travel logistics of lodging, meals, activities, mapping routes, driving, and parking for the 8 days. Since we weren’t on a DIY, we were able to quickly immerse and more fully experience the island within the limited time we had. It is an adventurous outdoors tour as well. We averaged 20,000-25,000 steps each day and could’ve kept going! We relished being outside in Iceland and saw everything we wanted to see - glaciers, ice cave, icebergs, volcanos, lava fields, lava tube cave, geothermal pools, national parks, beaches, waterfalls, geysers, fjords, whale watching and other sweet animals of Iceland, especially the horses, and the Northern Lights (a wish come true for us!) - fantastic highlights and memories of our Iceland tour and well worth every penny we spent. A huge shout out to our guide extraordinaire, Thor! If you are lucky to have Thor guide your trip, you will be in very good hands. He is warm, jovial, engaging, and full of knowledgeable, and passion for his country. We were fortunate to have favorable October weather, but if that hadn’t been the case, we have no doubt that Thor would’ve found satisfactory alternatives. He even took us on a few side trips not on the schedule and we had so much fun! We especially appreciate the special stop made for my fisherman. Thank you, Thor!! You made all the difference in enriching our Iceland tour and adventures. We hope to come back some day! We somehow totally skipped the Westfjords!
Trip was wonderful, our guide Siggi made the difference, he was kind, funny and we had the time of our life during this trip
We absolutely loved this trip guided by our amaizing driver/guide - ISKREN. The whole trip went on smoothly due to his assistance and helpfulness. Iceland is amaizing, and so are the people. Highly recommend, the tour and the guide.
If you are into adventure, this is the tour for you! If you want a tour guide with impeccable character, a supreme wit, amazing social skills, and complete professionalism, ask for Haffi. The itinerary with Troll Expeditions was remarkable; we were able to see a vast cross-section of the entire country on our tour. That being said, Haffi made the trip so much more worthwhile and fun. Not only did he save my bacon on a couple of occasions, he was a complete hero when we happened upon a horrific accident in the middle of our tour. This man knew who to call, knew how to handle the situation and did so with integrity and honor. In a situation that would rattle anyone, he maintained his cool and got things done, a true hero. My hat is off and my heart is humbled. On a lighter note, he showed his cape again when it came to the northern lights, grabbing all of us and heading out of the city so that we could get our first viewing of them on my birthday! Days later, we got to see an amazing light show next to the fjord outside of Bourganes, where our viking helped us with our camera settings and acted as a pro photographer does, capturing us in the moment and then sharing his gorgeous portraits with us with generosity. I can’t think of a better guide. He started with strangers and created a family. If you are a solo traveler, have no fear, you are in very good hands. 5 Stars, all the way. Thanks, Haffi!!! 😊
We had a wonderful time exploring Iceland on this 8-day tour! Thanks to the tour, we were able to admire the incredible beauty and diversity of Iceland’s landscapes. Our guide, Gylfi, took great care of us and made sure we made the most of every day, helping us see as much as possible. His dedication and the well-planned itinerary made the experience truly unforgettable. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to discover Iceland!
Great tour with so many amazing stops along the way. Our guide Thor was amazing, he made sure everyone was having a nice time, he was knowledgeable, fun, and made the whole trip unforgettable.
The tour got better and better. Each new scene remarkable for drama and beauty.Thor, our guide, was flawless in timing for each stop and in choice of stops. We had a mix of grocery story and restaurant options that were perfect! Thanks for an awesome trip. Highly recommend . An unforgettable experience. Iceland magic at its best!
Truly amazing Iceland experience in all regards! Guide Gyl was fabulous host and so knowledgeable and entertaining. Stunning beauty and natural wonders shared with dear friends. Exciting and unique excursions. Accommodations were comfortable and accommodating. Trip fully exceeded expectations!
I toured with 4 other friends from college, we had such a great time. Gyl, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and so fun to be on tour with. He had the perfect sense of humor to deal with every type of personality and kept us laughing and in good spirits. Some of the activities were above my fitness level, but I was one of the oldest people on the tour so I just did my best to keep up. Still enjoyed every day and it truly was a trip of a lifetime! Thanks for the memories! Linda Coats, USA
Great service great guide Max My advice you will not regret this the guide packed a lot into each and every day
This trip has been truly unforgettable and deeply touching. These eight days felt like a beautiful dream. A huge thank you to our tour guide Grill he helped us so much, he’s hilarious and such a wonderful person.
We had an amazing experience, Gil was a fantastic tour guide throughout. He always tried his very best to help us put and have us the most amazing experience. Highly recommend!
Had an excellent time. Our guide Haffi was excellent. He made every effort to make sure we had a wonderful experience. Truly an amazing experience.
This trip was amazing, we loved having our own personal guide Hafpor or Haffi as we called him. His knowledge of the country, wit and kindness made the whole trip that much better. We came up on a horrible accident minutes after it happened and Haffi did not hesitate to get out there to see where he could help and notify the authorities. He is definitely one of a kind and our favorite guide! Everywhere we went was absolutely stunning and I took probably 2000 pictures. Honestly the most beautiful scenery everywhere!
I like how the pick up was right out side our hotel. Our guide Haffi was GREAT, greeted us with a smile and narrated the trip very well. When we came upon a horrible accident Haffi didn’t hesitate to jump out and help and continued to help until he wasn’t needed anymore. Haffi went over and above what was expected of him. He took us to see the northern lights 2nights and was willing to take our pics and help us in any way.
Cost was about $2600/person for an 8-day driving tour around Iceland in September 2026. Some general thoughts: Download WhatsApp as it was used to share information among the group. Weather changes rapidly; recommend layers and waterproof top and bottom as most of the sites are outside and short walks, e.g. waterfalls (we rented tops and bottoms from Troll; they worked very well but they are just a shell to keep you dry and are not insulated). Pick-up on day 1 was on-time. Tour days begin at about 8:30a and end at about 5p each day. Plenty of bathroom stops (longest gap was a little more than 2 hrs), but some places charge for bathroom access ($2-3, you can use a credit card). Hotels are clean and what we would consider to be a 3-star on a 5-star scale (note: it did not appear there were a lot of luxury hotels outside of Reykjavik). Double rooms have individual twin beds, shower space is tight. Rooms can be warm even if you open a window vent each room has (although the rooms are warm, the also beds have heavy comforters). Breakfast was included each day, all other meals were on your own; we never had a bad meal at the recommended restaurants but, wow, meals (and everything else in Iceland) are expensive, e.g., before the tour started we had a basic breakfast of bacon and eggs with coffee and a pastry; it was $80+. It is hard to do a sit-down dinner for 2 people for less than $100 in Iceland. No tipping in Iceland at restaurants. Our tour was about 18 people (all adults over 40, most from the US), and we had about an 18-passenger van. It was cozy but comfortable (we had a good group and changed seats each day to allow everyone the chance to sit closer up). Note the overhead compartment in the van is quite small, possibly too small for even a backpack. Walks on the tour were quite easy. The glacier walk excursion could be a challenge for some (heights/difficult terrain/uneven or tall steps). The sights were visited were beautiful. We had several stops each day to see glaciers, waterfalls, small towns and other scenery. With the good weather we even went to some locations known to our guide but not normally on the tour. On two nights we had wonderful views of the Northern lights. Some lunch stops along the route were at a food court/rest stops along the route, but the food was not bad. Good vegetarian options at most places, hardest at the food court/rest stop locations. Our guide was Thor, a native Icelander, and we were quite fortunate to have him. In addition to being a tour guide and expert on Iceland geography and Viking lore, he’s a search and rescue expert which was lucky when one of the tour members fell onto some rocks and needed medical care. Thor was able to get him to medical care, and back on the tour within 2 hrs. Thor was quite engaging with the group, creating early relationships with each of us and accommodating requests as best he could. It is noted Thor was a one-man show the entire week – driver, tour guide, luggage handler, reservation maker and all other roles. One kind suggestion for Thor might be to expand on some his answers, i.e., more than a “yes” or “no,” but we are also guessing that when some questions were asked he may have had a lot on his mind as we drove as he was doing several things at once. Although there is no restaurant tipping, we did express our appreciation to Thor at the end of the tour. Big questions: 1) Would we use Troll tour company again? Yes. 2) Was the tour worth the cost? Yes, we think so. 3) Anything to be aware of? This is an outdoor tour, make sure you know what the weather can be in Iceland (even in summer) and dress properly for it. Appropriate clothing = a fun week. Improper clothing could = a wet, cold, miserable week.
I’ve just finished an incredible 8-day tour around Iceland starting from 30Aug, and I honestly couldn’t be happier with the experience! A huge thank you to our amazing tour guide, *John*, for making the trip so special. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and always made sure we were having a great time. His passion for Iceland really showed, and he went the extra mile to make the journey memorable — including some fantastic extra stops along the way. I also want to say thank you to everyone in our group. I met so many wonderful, kind, peaceful, and fun people, and that made the whole experience even better. 🤗 I would definitely recommend Tröll Expeditions to anyone wanting to explore Iceland. The scenery was breathtaking, but having a great guide and a wonderful group made the adventure even more enjoyable. Thank you again, John, and thank you to everyone who made these 8 days so memorable. I hope our paths cross again someday! 🇮🇸❤️ Wishing everyone good health, happiness, and plenty of smiles. And of course, let’s keep in touch! 🤗 Thank you for an unforgettable Iceland adventure! 🇮🇸💙
Haffi showed us an A+ experiance here on the island. I will recommend this company because of the good price for all we did and him as the guide to request to everbody I tell about my trip.
Amazing experience!! My mum and I absolutely loved the tour. Our guide, Gylfi, was absolutely brilliant, funny, and always kind and knowledgeable. We were apprehensive going on a tour but it was wonderful. Breathtaking nature, comfortable bus, lovely hotels with great breakfast, awesome guide… Fairly accessible as well. Highly recommended! Emmanuelle and mum Joëlle
I had a wonderful time and Jon was The perfect guide to discover that fantastic country! I recommend him! Thanks again for all!
The trip was amazing. Our tour Guide Jakup is very helping and friendly to show the places to us. We really enjoy the tour.
The tour was made fantastic because of our guide Thor! Honestly from the beginning till the end -- Thor was clear with instructions, very careful with planning so that we avoid crowds, and he was passionate about sharing his country with us. The one thing he couldn't control was weather but his quick mindedness allowed him to do swaps for us when he could -- so even though we had 2 bad weather days, we didn't feel like we missed anything at all -- because one wet day was basically him driving us to another location. More than this -- his personality is what sets him apart - he is jovial, is funny and knowledgeable which makes the long drives entertaining. I would definitely choose to ask when is Thor's next tour if I were to book it again. Hotels wise I must say they are fairly basic but for a nights stay it's ok. Activities wise it was packed -- so for a teaser package it was perfect for us -- so that we know where to focus on next time we are back. Thank you Thor!
Troll is an experienced tour operator, so everything went amazingly smoothly. Our driver and tour guide, Jakub (Jacob) was friendly, knowledgeable and flexible. Highlights of the tour included the ice caves, glacier hike, seeing puffins and icebergs, baths at Vök, whale watching and a wide variety of waterfalls. Hotels generally comfortable even though not luxurious. Food was expensive but almost always fresh and delicious, even at the touristy rest stops. The Golden Circle is loaded with tourists, but once you get beyond a one-day drive from Reykjavik, the crowds thin out considerably and you can really enjoy the beautiful and awesome scenery.
I just finished the 8-day Tröll tour with tour guide Jakub Konkel. Iceland is an amazing country, and Jakub made it come to life with his special insights and tireless energy. He took us to beautiful places and went out of his way every day to accommodate our interests, take us to out-of-the way spots and make sure we got the most out of this extraordinary place. I couldn’t recommend Jakub more highly.
Our tour guide, John, is really energetic, positive, encouraging, helpful, considerate, knowledgeable, and, above all, the best guide we have ever met. Geographer by training, John explained the landscape, lakes, rivers, volcanoes, and glaciers as he drove past them, including their histories. He is more than just a guide and made our 8-day tour unforgettable and full of happiness! I can feel his passion, and I am really happy to have had him for the past eight days.
Just got back from an amazing 8-day tour, and I can't say enough good things about it. We saw so much packed into one trip—the Golden Circle, stunning waterfalls, lava caves, walking right on glaciers, and exploring those incredible ice caves. Getting to see puffins, seals, and the Icelandic horses up close was such a highlight! Our guide, Gylfi, was fantastic! He knew so much about everything we were seeing, kept us super informed, and had us laughing the entire trip. You could tell he really cared about making it a great experience for everyone. The whole group was so friendly and easy to get along with, which made traveling together for a week so much fun. If you're thinking about doing this tour, definitely go for it. It was truly a wonderful experience from start to finish!
The 8-Day tour was an excellent way to explore Iceland. Our guide, Gylfi, was so knowledgeable and easy going. Would definitely go again!
This was an unforgettable experience! If you have the luck of Odin, then Gylfi will be your guide. He was courteous, patient and funny. He’s very knowledgeable about his home and a true Viking! The sights, the landscape, the timing of every stop were perfect. I highly recommend this tour.
The tour was very good. If you want the best experience possible, go with Gylfi, the best tour guide from troll.
We had booked a 8 day trip with Troll.is to see Iceland. It was overall a well organized trip. We had 2 guides over 8 days and I would like to specially mention Huffy who was with us for the first 6 days. He was exceptionally knowledgeable and kind. He went that extra distance to ensure everyone was happy and comfortable. He took us to beautiful places, stopped at intervals to take care of everyone’s need and was a jolly good fellow all through. The other guide whose name I think was Sidney (apologies if I got it wrong) was also an excellent guide. The locations visited were amazing. The hotels we stayed in were a mixed bag some were great and others were like a hostel with small rooms, low light, no elevator, inadequate breakfast, no kettle in room etc. However, Troll.is showed us their profiteering underbelly on the second day where they changed the location of night stay due to reason best known to them. The worst came, when they had to allocate rooms over 2 hotels and an apartment. The best luxury rooms went to the White Europeans and US passport holders and the Chinese on whom Europe depends greatly, while the apartments were left for us poor Indians where 4 adults had to share one bathroom and an old gentleman had to share the apartment with the guide. In these times they don’t pick up your calls and the mails came next day saying that they will revert .. which they never did. Overall a great trip marred by the thinking of a racist profiteering company..
The 8 day summer ring road with Troll was beyond my expectations. Our guide was a native Icelander and conveyed a lot of history and folklore, especially about trolls! I feel like our tour covered almost every sight, waterfall, the volcanoes and glaciers that were in the tour books. Highlights are the ice cave and glacier walk. The lava cave was also outstanding. Vok baths are also worth paying the extra fee. All the hotels were very nice and you do change hotels almost nightly to get to all the points of interest. The Mercedes Sprinter is comfortable. Well worth the investment- driving on your own is tedious. I rented a car the last 6 days of my trip. Signage is not as good as I'd hoped. If you do drive, make sure you have a map ready to use. Internet signal is not reliable unless you are on hotel wifi.
Just wanted to shout out Thales, our charismatic tour guide who always made sure we were safe and well attended during this excellent itinerary across Iceland ! For anyone who is looking for a comprehensive experience, this itinerary was wonderful. Especially enjoyed hiking the glacier and seeing many water falls in many settings. Excellent experience and well-executed tour!
