Had an amazing 2 day tour with Lili! She was super friendly and knowledgeable, sharing lots of great facts on each location we stopped at, while being very happy and welcoming to our whole group. Could not have asked for a better experience than what Lili provided, which matched the fantastic scenery along the entire tour. Thank you Lili and Artic Adventures for an amazing birthday!

Itinerary
Day 1
1
Your 2-day adventure tour starts with a morning pick up from the Reykjavik downtown area. From the capital you will drive along the scenic west coast to West Iceland.
The first stop of the day will be at the small fishing village of Arnarstapi, where you will walk around and explore the surrounding area.
From Arnarstapi we go underground, where you have an option (extra fees apply) to go into Vatnshellir cave which is located inside the Snæfellsnes National Park. The cave is about 8000 years old lava tube tunnel. This experience is as close you will get to the Jules Verne story, A Journey to the Center of Earth. If you are not joining the caving part, then the guide will take you walking around the area.
Next up is Hellnar where you will stop for lunch (own expense) before continuing to the beautiful Djupalonssandur beach. There you will go on a short hike on the pebbles stone beach and explore the remains of the ship wreckage. On the beach, you may also find the lifting stones, where you can test your strength like the fishermen used to do in the good old days. If the forecast looks promising, then you will have the possibility to go hunt for the Northern Lights in the evening.
From Djupalonssandur, you will then continue your journey around Snaefellsnes peninsula, making a stop at the iconic and famous Mt. Kirkjufell, a favorite spot for many photographers before turning in for your accommodation for the night.
Day 2
2
Your first stop of the day will be at Deildartunguhver, the most powerful hot spring in all Europe which is used for heating all the neighboring towns.
Sturlureykir Horse Farm is a family-run farm in western Iceland, near the village of Reykholt, known for its gentle Icelandic horses and welcoming atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy a guided stable visit, learn about traditional horse breeding, and see how geothermal energy is used on the farm.
After soaking up the history of Reykholt your next stop will include exploring the stunning Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls. There you can see how the water flows from underneath the lava fields and hear the story about Barnafoss waterfall. From there you will leave the beautiful Borgarfjordur area.
On your way back to Reykjavik you will stop by Gerduberg Basalt Columns.
The tour ends in Reykjavik. You can expect to be back at around 6:00 pm.
Reykholt's history extends beyond Snorri Sturluson; it was an early settlement and church site from the 10th century. Its geothermal springs were vital resources long before and after his time. After Snorri's death, it became an important ecclesiastical and cultural center, still thriving today.

Excellent tour with our guide Greta! She was very informative, timing of stops was perfect, with a little extra time to see horses and taste some local ice cream-really great excursion, and our guide made it the best!
I booked this experience through MyRealTrip, and I’m really glad I chose it. Our guide, Frey, was friendly, professional, and very knowledgeable. Frey explained everything clearly, shared interesting local stories, and made the whole experience feel comfortable and enjoyable. The schedule was well organized, and the pace was just right, so it never felt rushed. Frey also gave helpful tips, answered all questions kindly, and recommended great photo spots and local places. Thanks to Frey, the experience became much more memorable. I would highly recommend this tour, especially if Frey is your guide!
I really enjoy this tour. The members of tour consisted of 5 teams (3 teams -1 person, 2 teams - 2 person). Our guide "Frey" gave us specific explaination kindly. And we got enough time to see around, I really appreciated it. Also the weather was sunny, sometimes cloudy, and it made our pictures more beautiful. Pictures Frey took are good gifts for me. Tour members, weather, atmosphere and places, all of things were great. If I have a chance to come Iceland again, I hope to be with Frey again.
What a great trip with Arctic Adventures! From the moment Gunnar picked us up, the whole experience was amazing. The Snaefellsnes Peninsula is wild and beautiful. It seems to be a path less well trodden but definitely worth it. Gunnar was so knowledgeable! Would definitely recommend this Company.
An incredible experience. Vik is a fantastic tour guide. He shared so many facts and stories about Iceland. March is when winter hit Iceland this year and Vik drove us through some crazy weather to allow us to experience the sights. The Icelandic cliffs are some of the prettiest in the world; the waterfalls partially frozen are beautiful; geothermal springs are fascinating; the crater walk is magical - so so much to see. Vik allowed us plenty of time to see the sights while timing our travels based on the weather forecast. One of the highlights was seeing the Northern Lights. The weather was cloudy all day. We checked into the hotel, had dinner and then the sky opened up, the stars came out and the lights appeared and danced for us for 2 hours -- a truly magical experience. This was our second tour with this group and I highly recommend them -- the guides are highly experienced, the groups are small and the itineraries showcase the beauty of Iceland.
Bjorn was a great guide! We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly and were deeply enriched by his wealth of knowledge about Iceland. He was engaging and spoke clearly about the history of the country and about the volcanos. The sights were also breathtaking and spectacular! Northern lights at Borgarnes were the cherry on top of the great trip! We would recommend him if a guide is needed in Iceland!
This trip was the best way to take advantage of our quick 3 day visit. We hit a lot of the famous spots and were able to enjoy the breathtakingness of Iceland.
Terrible experience! The only one tour I did in Iceland that did not go well. The name of the tour is misleading - you are on your own about seeing the northern lights. The driver made no effort in taking the group to see them at night in low light spots around the peninsula. He even made an announcement as soon as we got in the bus about the name of the tour not describing what was expected at this time of the year. In April, there is no certainty to the availability to see the lights. This is entirely something else. Another unfortunate event was being the only guest with a two day package, squeezed in a five day tour with other groups. The hotel at the peninsula town was terrible - uncomfortable accommodation, tasteless food, and staff that for the most time were no where to be found. Artic Adventures seems to be one of the main tour companies in Iceland and perhaps is no longer paying attention to small details to provide great experiences to customers. I will not recommend this company when visiting the island. Perhaps changing the misleading name and clarifying to guests what to expect during the trip are better practices to be considered. Eastwest is a small, far superior tour company, excellent on the handling of guests needs.
While we had an excellent experience with the earlier lava cave tour we did with Arctic Adventures, this one was marginal. It started with communications. Apparently due to the harsh weather, Arctic flipped the days’ itineraries and did day 2 on day one. That would have been fine, but there was nothing that stated it might happen, so we did not have our items handy that we needed for the geothermal pools. Also the instructions we received with our reservation told us to pack a lunch and snacks, but there were places to buy lunch and snacks both days. The hotel we stayed at in Borgarnes was tired and dreary, with no hot breakfast options. The route seemed inefficient, with a lot of back and forth driving, meaning a lot of time in the van versus getting out and seeing the sights. Our guide was a very good driver, especially in the wet and snowy conditions, but seemed to spend more time talking about himself than Iceland.
VJERAN has been an amazing tour guide, bringing us to all the picturesque places around Iceland and purposely taking time out to bring us to extra places that was not included. And these places were AMAZING 🤩. the scenery was great and it fit well in the itinerary. I am very VERY pleased with his service and he didnt feel like a stranger to me but more as a friend. We need more people like him to be tour guides to bring the best experiences to tourists. He accommodated us very well and gave us ample time to check out the different attractions around Iceland. Love that fella. Hi VJERAN, if you’re reading this, i want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. 🙏🏼 we are glad to have you as our tour guide! love from singapore 🇸🇬
Overall, a good tour! We experienced snowfall during the trip, which transformed the landscape into a magical winter wonderland—a truly unforgettable experience. The hotel we stayed in for the night, located in a quaint fishing village, was cozy and comfortable, adding to the charm of the adventure. However, while the tour is named the 2-Day Northern Lights and Snaefellsnes Peninsula Adventure, no effort was made by the guide to attempt Northern Lights viewing. This might have been due to unfavorable weather conditions, but it was still a bit disappointing not to see any proactive attempt. The sightseeing itself was enjoyable, but the guide could have been more engaging and shared additional facts about the places we visited to enrich the experience. All in all, the tour was good, with some room for improvement in guide engagement and Northern Lights planning.
Many THANKS to Mitch, he is amazing! Our family had a wonderful time in Iceland, Mitch is really a nice gentleman, great trip, great food he suggested, great memories of Iceland!
This trip was the only 2-day tour of Snaefellsnes I could find that actually spent the night on the peninsula. The van had a maximum capacity of 18, but our tour had only seven people. The tour was well-paced, periods of driving interspersed with lots of stops, with a good mix of active (30-45 minute hikes) and less active things, stops where we were taken around as a group and others where we were left to set out on our own and be back at a given time. Nothing was too strenuous for this 79-year-old with some lung problems. Hjalti (spelling?) was a great guide, filled with interesting information about Iceland. The hotel room was as good as in my 4-star place in Reykjavik, and the food at dinner was quite good.
The trip was well timed and our guide Vjorn was very knowledgeable and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed the tour. We saw the south coast which included water falls, black beach, diamond beach, glacial cave, glacial lagoon… and Vjorn made couple of additional stops… one of them was the most beautiful canyon I ever saw.
THE BEST TOUR I’ve ever been on. Casper (Bob) our guide had such a friendly, sociable and passionate energy, making sure everyone had the smoothest and most enjoyable journey ever together. Although I was travelling solo, I really felt the family vibe and cannot recommend this tour more. Sights were incredible - I could stare out the window all day! Thankyou Casper 🙏
The country was beautiful! Vjeran, our guide, was amazing and had a great personality. My husband said they should have Vjeran train all the guides. He knew the history and customs of his country and shared all kinds of fascinating information with our tour and kept us entertained during the bus rides. He warned our tour if there was anything we should be careful about an all of our stops. He was very personable and I think he knew everyone's first name on the first day. When we arrived at a particular location, he knew all the great photo locations and pointed them out. He said he was our selfie-stick and took great photos of the people on our tour. The only disappointment was that we didn't see the Northern Lights, but that is to be expected sometimes. Just gives us another reason to visit again....and hope we get Vjeran for our guide again.
We had the most awesome guide. Vjeran was fully engaged with our family; hiking with us, finding iconic photo opportunities, taking our pictures and providing lots of valuable Iceland background & information.
It was a really memorable trip. The caves and the glacier were fantastic. Great guides, very good hotel with excellent restaurant. I can only recommand this 2 days winter tour.
Vjeran was an amazing tour guide and made the trip so much better. The views were amazing and we loved everything about our experience.
Time was enough for what's described on the site. Be aware driving is long. like 500 km daily. our guide Christopher was amazing. You see what's really important. Dont hesitate to book with these guys.
Amazing tour with Vjeran. Learned so much about Iceland’s history, culture, food, geology, etc Could not have asked for a better trip.
Our tour guide Vjeran was wonderful and very knowledgeable. He made sure we all had a great time despite the bad weather. He takes the effort to remember everyone’s name and cater to everyone’s circumstances
We have a very good guide Vjeran. He showed us as much as he can in a very limited of time, and told us a lot about Iceland landscape and the stories behind.
Our tour guide Svavas picked us up on time, and gave us an excellent tour of mid north east Iceland, we were astounded by the scenery, mountains, waterfalls, volcanoes and lava flows, but the information provided by Svavas was even better, with great knowledge of each place that we saw, including the history, and usually the associated 'Troll' stories for the area. We greatly enjoyed our tour, and our time with the experienced Arctic guide.
It was our first trip to Iceland and Artic Adventures was recommended. Our guide Vjeran picked us up promptly and off we went in a small group. He went above and beyond to show us hidden areas/ additional areas that locals will visit. He was also very knowledgeable and approachable about culture of the Icelandic people. He told us the best spots for photos and truly enhanced the experience for everyone in the group.
Tour was awesome, we were able to fit in so many stops! Thank you Vjeran, our tour director, for a wonderful time and for going the extra mile to help us.
We were a family group of 6, and had the remarkable good fortune of having this trip to ourselves. Don't expect that! (Our other trip with Arctic Adventures was almost full, but was still a wonderful experience.) Our guide's English was excellent, and she was knowledgeable and entertaining. The accommodations and meals were fine, and the sights were amazing.
Good experience overall. A lot of driving and not really a good opportunity to see the Northern Lights on this specific tour. The overnight stay was at a perfectly suitable hotel. Guide was knowledgeable. Minibus as about as comfortable as you can be in a minibus really.
Wow!! What an experience!! Our tour guide Christopher is so much fun, knowledgable, lovely and generous. We saw incredible, majestic sites of Iceland, including a surreal glacier hike and ice cave experience. He helped us navigate best options at each stop, understood our Australian humour & even had some great dance moves. He also curated a fabulous soundtrack from our pick up with ABBA to a curated soundtrack of 90s, 80s, and Icelandic and Polish music Thank you Christopher, we love you!! What a memorable, magical experience. 💕
Amazing 2 days with wonderful landscapes !! Thanks to Vjeran, our guide, for all the interesting stories and hikes.
The tour leader, Vjeran, was amazing, Intelligent, very educated, knowledgeable of history and Iceland, full of the energy of 5 men, caring, flexible. He went way above and beyond to make our trip special. When I became ill during the trip he gave me the information that I needed to see a doctor and then he helped me pick up my prescription at the pharmacy. There were only 4 people on our tour and we were able to spread out in the bus.
Do not book a tour with this company. In January, we reserved tickets for a two-day Northern Lights & Snæfellsnes Peninsula tour in April. The company canceled the tour on three days before it was scheduled. We had been looking forward to to this tour for months and planned our entire vacation around it, so we are unable to reschedule it.
“It’s a fishing village. It’s small.” A typical comment from our tour guide who had never been to the sites on the tour. The tour bus rattled, leaked cold air, and had no working sound system. We were sadly disappointed with Arctic Adventures.
2 days as part of the 5 day program We had a nice group of 18 people, hotels and accommodations were good and we enjoyed the variety of the program! Thank you Hjalti!
We had a fantastic time on this tour! Our tour guide, Bessi, was fun, knowledgeable, informative, and took care that we all had an enjoyable time. We would highly recommend BOTH this tour and Bessi!
Very bad support from your operator. When the tour started the driver told us that there was an optional ice cave visit that had been sold by another operator. Half the tour had no idea about this option. We asked the driver if we could pay for this extra but he said we had to call the office. Several people on the tour called but the office refused to help saying to ask the driver. Basically it was a back and forth where we were left with no support. Additionally the driver seemed to not even know the itinerary instead announcing he was going to bring people back to Reykjavik at the end of the day (this was a 2 day tour). We asked if we were going to attempt to see the norther lights (as described in the itinerary) but he claimed he knew nothing about that. All in all this is a tour where they assume you are a one off customer so they don’t care to make it pleasant. Since there is no expectation of customer loyalty they can change things on a whim without customer support trying to make it right. Basically do not do this tour. The organization is very poorly arranged .
Great tour, highly recommended! We missed the northern lights due to weather and other conditions but the tour was still great. Iceland in the winter is amazing too Thanks Arctic Adventures and Greg the tour guide and driver !!
Sindri was a great guide and kept us informed and entertained. He was quite knowledgeable and very personable. We had a fabulous time.
Arctic Adventures cancelled my 2 day tour whilst I was en route to the airport on the way to Iceland - they added a smiley face to the cancellation I assume to lessen the blow - that really should have been a warning. There was no reason given for the cancellation - it certainly wasn’t due to the weather although they did suggest I go a day later which wasn’t much use when I was flying back to the UK on what they then proposed would be the 2nd day of my revised tour. They then suggested two single day tours. The first was to the Golden Circle - the guide was a nice enough guy but really hard to understand and he spoke far too quietly. The scenery however was stunning. The second day tour on Sunday was cancelled due to the weather - that I understand - however I would expect to be refunded immediately for that part of the booking. After much chasing Arctic Adventures are now saying any refund needs to be chased with a third party who ran the tour even though I’ve had no dealings with that company and my contract was with Arctic Adventures. As my original booking had included one nights accommodation they booked me a hotel. It was on the outskirts of Reykjavík centre and was not much more than a hostel. There was nothing to do nearby and no restaurants to eat at. As an older woman travelling solo (of which they were fully aware) I wasn’t impressed. It was a relief to get back to the hotel I had booked for myself before I flew home. It was warm, inviting and close to the shops and restaurants in central Reykjavík so I was able to occupy myself despite my tours being cancelled (twice!). In summary - Beware. They cancel at the last minute, are not forthcoming with refunds and don’t want to speak to you on the phone. I would never book with them again. If you cancel someone’s trip, particularly with less than 36 hours notice the least you can do is ensure they are compensated and refunded as a matter of urgency. Totally unprofessional company.
Nice tour on the west coast of Iceland, the highlights of our tour was Barnafoss (beautiful waterfall which is not as crowdy as the waterfalls in the south or gullfoss), Arnastapi (nice village with beautiful coastline) and the horse riding which we did additional to the schedule. Nick the guide was friendly and a good driver, he did take pictures of us and gave us many information. In the evening of the first night we went out to see the Northern Lights, but unfortunately we didn’t see them (bad conditions). Negativ: The minibus made some troubles and had to be changed, that did cost us about an hour in Reykjavík
Absolutely fantastic experience. Highly recommended and must do. Our guide Vjeran was just amazing. He made the entire trip brilliant and was so knowledgeable and insightful. I would suggest call up arctic and ask which day he is taking the tour and book those days; he will go above and beyond to make your trip a memorable experience. Only negative, you wouldn’t actually go out to do northern lights hunting. Other that than, a truly unforgettable experience.
We went to Iceland with our family - 12 and 14 year old children. It was our revenge travel after our initial Iceland plans were spoiled by Covid. We had a few days in Iceland prior to this driving a rented car, stuck in a snow storm for three days and it had been quite an adventure. We didn’t want to be stuck in bad weather again so we decided to take a tour to the harder to drive north west of Iceland. Good thing we took the tour- the weather was horrid but we had an amazing guide - the best guide ever - vjeran - the tour was on Christmas Day - due to weather we did borganes on day 1! And snaefelness on day 2 - vjeran was thinking on his feet. When our geothermal bath was closed, he winged a few extra things like a visit to a few secret waterfalls and craters, a trip to an Icelandic horse ranch with its own hot spring where we met the friendliest doggies petted the most beautiful horses and had delicious rye bread. It was an amazing experience. Day two was chilly but we managed to do amazing black beach, waterfalls, breathtaking views, some secret glaciers, lava caves, ice tunnels and two game of throne iconic spots! My teenage kids (one of whom was having her birthday) had an incredible time. Vjeran was well informed and did a splendid job explaining geothermal activities and the formation of volcanoes, lava caves, Iceland, the history of Vikings and the Icelandic language! We learned so much! It was incredibly educational - he went out of the way to find restaurants for us to eat at at a time when all restaurants were closed for Christmas - quite a feat. And he went out of the way to send us to our hotel after the tour - we had left our luggage at the Hilton - we needed to pick it up and go to the tower suites - vjeran kindly accommodate it without us needing to ask! Now that’s amazing service! We saw so much of Iceland in the two days! It was all around incredible
5 stars are not enough! Our guide Tjeran was unbelievable. We were lucky to have a small group of only 6 so we were actually just like a family. Tjeran was highly energetic, very personable and happy, and clearly loves his job. He stayed with us the entire time, leading us through caves, canyons and waterfalls (definitely bring waterproof outerwear and boots). We saw a beautiful sunset with the Snaefellsnes glacier in the foreground that was postcard worthy plus of course so many waterfalls. We also stopped numerous times for spots not even on the itinerary. We did not see the northern lights on the 2 day trip due to weather conditions but did see them later on in the week as we did a 3 day trip back to back.
From catching a sunset on a seal beach, to hiking up a gorge, to exploring a lava cave, to hiking up an extinct volcano this tour was already something else, but Vjaren went above and beyond to make this a trip to remember. His zest for life lights up the bus and warms everyone's spirit.
This tour was a great way to experience Iceland. Our tour guide Vjeran was so energetic and knowledgeable. He joined in on all the activities we did and took us to lots of extra places he found interesting. The tour itself was great because the peninsula wasn't very crowded this time of the year and offered lots of beautiful views. The weather did not cooperate for us to see the northern lights but was overall very good.
Driver not a big talker, maybe because of his English level, the time in the bus was boring, not as in other tours I did where the driver had many interesting stories to share about Iceland. We missed some interesting stops, like a crack in the Mountain that looked amazing from the bus, the cave, not hotdog as the tour description promised... The tour was meant to be 11h as per description, after 8h we're back. Overall ok, but I wouldn't recommend the tour, it has nice spots but nothing spectacular as other areas in Iceland.
Our guide (Bjorg) was wonderful! She shared the historical and geological information about each place we visited and even took us to some ‘off the beaten path’ areas that were her favorite spots!
First of all, the weather was awful during our stay in Iceland. But we didn't let that stop us from doing what we had planned. The unfortunate thing was the northern lights were non existent. We had three nights to see them...two were canceled because of weather and the third one was clear but the lights were off doing their thing someplace else. This is where I will describe my disappointment with the company. The weather had been bad the previous 2 1/2 weeks so all those people kept getting another night to see the lights. But because the lights never showed they kept bumping them to the next night over and over and over until the one night we finally got to go out! But there were soooooo many people (because of the "bumps") that they had to split t us into 2-3 bus groups with one bunch going out early and the second one going out late. We were in the late group. The temps were right around 28 degrees but the winds were blowing 30-35mph so the windchill was in the single digits! Very cold to be outside waiting to see the lights. The leader suggested that some of us could sit in the buses and when the lights began they would come get us. But they never came. They took us to another sighting are but it was zip there, too. We found out the following day when we did the volcano tour that the early groups got to see them! They only lasted 23 min but they were visible! Top say we were disappointed would be an understatement. What could the company have done differently? In think everyone should have gone out at the same time...all the buses taken to the same locations and we all could have waited the 3 hours promised to wait for the lights to show. Would that have been feasible? I don't know but it would have been more equitable for those of us who were traveling on shorter trips and had only a handful of possible nights to see the aurora borealis! Now my husband will have to suffer through another cold trip to a snowy, very northern country in the middle of winter for us to try to see the Northern Lights! And of course we have to include our son and his best friend!
What a great way to see the country abs so many stops with no worries. Maria, our guide was so knowledgeable and fun we just couldn’t recommend this tour enough!!!! We saw so much in just 2 days.
