I don't understand how this is considered a 4 star hotel. While the lobby looks nice, all of the floors where the rooms are located are extremely dark and dated. Many of the ceiling lights didn't work and there were stains on the carpet. Likewise, our room was extremely tiny (comparable to a hostel) and quite old. The shower lining was chipped, the bathroom lighting extremely dim. The lights in our room would also flicker every time they were turned on. The hotel room TV and wifi did not work for the entirety of our stay. Also, one of our main reasons for booking this hotel was the pool and only upon arrival were we told it would be a ~$40 CAD entrance fee per person. On the hotel website it states that entrance to the spa area is that cost, however, it was not clearly stated anywhere that that means the pool as well. You can easily find a hotel closer to the city centre for cheaper than staying here.

Walkable location—about 15 minutes from a geothermal pool and a mile from the city center. It’s not a bad walk, just lots of construction happening at this time. Rooms and amenities were as expected. I wish the gym was better maintained. Breakfast was delicious. I enjoyed the hints of Icelandic breakfast like skyr and cod liver oil shots. More food variability and chicken/turkey options would have been great—only pork containing sausage and bacon was available.
This was the best buffet-style hotel dinner/breakfast I've ever had. Only gave this place 4/5 stars because, during the summer, the sun never sets. The rooms insulate heat really well, so it was very, very hot in the rooms. Opening the window did not help because the sun was coming in through the window anyway. Also, the shower spray is huge, so all of you us getting wet. Bring a shower cap if you don't want your hair getting wet.
Stay away! This has to be the worst hotel in Iceland. I stayed here a few years and remember it fondly, this week has been a joke: nothing works, the staff are oblivious, the rooms are old and the breakfast buffet is terrible. Let’s start from the top: 1) the rooms vary, you should insist on the ‘updated’ room otherwise you’re basically staying in a hostel 2) the faucet turns itself off. The shower can’t be fully turned off so it leaks all night. The TV doesn’t work - the channels buffer and at super glitchy. The curtains can’t be fully closet so during 24daylight, it’s hard to black out the room. There is no AC so the room gets super hot when it’s sunny. 3) the staff are so used to people complaining that they just don’t care anymore. They pretend the best they can, but there is nothing they can do. reception told me “this hotel is very old so many things don’t work” 4) the breakfast buffet!!! OMG. They Americanized it and it’s now terrible eggs, bacon and other slop. The best part is the bread: that’s still fresh and Icelandic. Even the yogurt is warm. I’ve stayed in many places and in many countries: this place is a terrible disappointment
We really enjoyed our stay, the rooms have all necessary amenities. The breakfast offers plenty for options for everyone. The location is close to the BSI bus terminal so in case you don't book your pickup for the various trips, you don't have to walk/travel too far (it is however further from the centre but still a walking distance in case you don't want to use the public transport).
