Amazing hotel, rooms were brilliant, service was brilliant. Lovely little lounge area to chill out and some amazing postcards to buy with picture taken by Gundar Gunderson. Also the bakery under the hotel - wow. Never had such a good bagel! Can’t recommend enough !!!

Overall, I really liked the Exeter, mainly because of its excellent location near the harbor and because it's within walking distance of the main shopping areas of Reykjavik. My rooms (I stayed twice) were warm, but I find that in most northern European hotels. Both times I had a room with doors that opened to the outside so I could cool down the room at night and sleep comfortably. I do have two big issues with the hotel, however. The first is if you want to get into your room earlier than the 3pm check-in time, they charge you (something like 70 euros), even if the room is ready. That's fine if you are arriving in the morning. But they'll charge you in the early afternoon as well. I had inquired about my room sometime after 2pm and was told I would be charged extra if I wanted to check in early, so I waited in the lobby. I asked again at 3pm and was given a key then. It was clearly ready for me early but the staff didn't bother to tell me or let me check in. The second issue is that if you're checking out, leaving Reykjavik for a few days and then returning to the hotel, they charge a per night fee to leave luggage. I have never heard of this before. I would consider staying here again, but I'm writing this to let people know in advance what to expect. Also - Von at the front desk was stellar and the friendliest of all the staff. I didn't mind having to walk through the restaurant to get to the lobby (as someone else complained about). I actually really appreciated having a cafe so easily accessible and the group I was with made good use of the bar. :-)
Very nice quirky hotel. Staff were amazing and a restaurant and bakery on site. Right across the street from the harbor and also bus stop #4 for all the tours. Around the corner from shopping and restaurants. Breakfast was amazing, best I have ever had at a hotel. Only thing I would say was a bit more lighting in the hallways and rooms would be a plus.
This hotel is lovely! Staff is kind and helpful, there are free lockers to stow your baggage if you arrive before check-in time, and the location is unbeatable for boat tours and shopping. One thing to note, at least in our room so rooms may differ, is there is no air con or fan available for sleeping. The windows open which is good! But if you want to close the blackout curtains during the summer to block the midnight sun, the air does not flow into the room very well. We simply used eye masks and left the curtain open to maximize airflow and temperature. Otherwise the heat and humidity from the shower (next time will make our showers very very fast!) will stay in the room for a very long time. I am particular about temperature, staying cold when I sleep, so that’s my only criticism. But we figured it out and slept well eventually! ^_^ no problem Otherwise will 100% stay here again!! Beware of spending all of your money at that fabulous lobby bakery/cafe, Deig…! Lol
My family of four (with two teenagers) all loved staying at The Exeter Hotel and would gladly stay there again if we return to Reykjavik. We booked 2 standard rooms that were not big, but designed very well and with everything we needed. The hotel has a great energy and an urban minimalist chic design, and we really liked how you pass through the lively and colorful Deig Bakery and Le Cock Restaurant on the way to the hotel lobby. The hotel's breakfast is served in Le Cock Restaurant and if you're lucky to be there on a sunny day, the room is full of sunlight. The breakfast options are vast, including a yogurt bar, eggs and lox, delicious fresh bread, and homemade peanut butter. The front desk staff were all incredibly helpful, from offering parking assistance to Golden Circle recommendations. Special shout-out to Santa for her attentive customer service. Also loved the hotel's location close to the harbor, art museum, Harpa Concert Hall, and so many restaurants. Nothing was more than a 15-minute walk. Don't hesitate, book this well-designed, courteous and hip hotel.
