After just arriving to Quito this tour gave us an excellent overview of the historical centre. We got a lot of good information and could ask all sorts of questions. Finalizing the tour with chocolate tasting was also nice
We had a great tour with our family. Alexis was an excellent tour guide and kept our two girls (8 and 11) entertained and engaged. Alexis was very flexible with our booking and answered all my questions quickly and with consideration via WhatsApp. We enjoyed it all and loved the chocolate tasting! With highly recommend.
Alexis took us on a great tour through Quito. His english was flawless and he had so much knowledge about the coty Ecuador in general. He was kind, patient and a pleasure to spend the afternoon with.
Alexis was so welcoming and gave us a great overview of the history and culture. We have two young boys and he kept them engaged the whole time with great questions for them! The chocolate tasting was an excellent bonus to end the tour with.
This was super informative and really helps you understand some of Ecuador’s history. Alex was great, patient, friendly, and helpful. He took me to some historical places in the old city centre and did very well contextualising them. The chocolate tasting was also great! Highly recommend.
We were surprised to find that there were just two of us being shown around Old Town Quito by our guide, which made for an intimate and friendly tour. He was very knowledgeable about the history and culture of Quito, giving us interesting stories and fascinating insights into the locals' view of the various historic sites.
Excellent experience, our guide was very knowledgeable and had lots of interesting facts and stories to share with us. Lots of great places to visit. Cacao tasting was a good addition to the tour. The length of the tour was perfect to see the old town, we were just a small group, which was great for this kind of tour! Would definitely recommend
WOW! This tour is spectacular!! You must take this super cheap tour. It was just my boyfriend and I, we were very lucky to have our guide all to ourselves. He was excellent!
Great tour, learned a lot about the city and Ecuadorean customs. Highly recommend
Great walking tour! Alexy, our guide was very good. His English was easy to understand. His love for his city and country certainly was very evident. He was very informative, providing good history and answering all our questions. . He also graciously waited for us when we were a bit delayed arriving at the meeting point. I certainly recommend the tour. The length is just about right 👍
Our walking tour of Quito's Old Town was a fantastic experience. The guide was knowledgeable, engaging, and brought the city's rich history and culture to life. We loved exploring the beautiful plazas, churches, and hidden corners while learning about Quito's past and present. A great way to get acquainted with this stunning historic district—highly recommended!
Informative walking tour, plenty of time for questions
Alexis is an exceptional guide, full of knowledge with a tinge of humour, proud fully showing off his beautiful city.
Alexis is an awesome Guide He taught me things about Quito that my Local Friends did not know!! He answeed every stray question I could come up with, and his enthusiasm of his Hometown and Country are an inspirarion!
Our guide was wonderful and provided us with a great overview of the old town. His knowledge of the history and cultural events are informative as well as entertaining.
Ayllu Tour was great and knowledgeable of the history. Spoke English well.
Friendly, knowledgeable and very hospitable guide. If you're in Quito (and want to know more about the churches and history) - I would recommend this tour.
As a guide, Alexis is a giant among the best. He is unfailingly gentle, kind and extremely knowledgeable and passionate about Ecuador and its history and culture. He speaks from the heart and at the end of the tour, you will feel that not only have you known Ecuador better but you would have made a true Ecuadorian friend. (Oh, his English is also excellent as he did his university degree in the USA !)
This is definitely a must do!!! It’s a free walking tour that takes about 2.5 hours that’s funded by your donations. Alexis is amazing! He was so knowledgeable about history, very fun to just chat with, and super polite. As a solo traveler I also felt very safe with him especially as I was the only one in this last minute booked tour. If you have the time and are in the area I highly recommend you do this. You get to see some gorgeous buildings, get a little history, taste chocolate and learn more about it than you ever wanted to know. I also enjoyed just walking around seeing locals in their normal element and not just overly fake touristic area.
Alexis was very informative and was able to answer all our questions . Well worth exploring the old town with him . He deserves his tips
Nice walking tour,I recommend a lot this tour, our gide super knowledgeable about history os town Muy buen tour el gia muy profecional
Alexis was a fantastic, knowledgeable guide. We learned loads and felt we understood Quito and its vibrant history much more afterwards.
The tour was a 10/10. I couldn't recommend it more. Our tour guide gave us a well educated tour along with cultural implications. The chocolate factory was a fun addition.
For a nearly "free" tour, this was great quality. Learnt so much more in-depth information about Quito old town than if you did a self-guided tour. Well paced and full of detailed (but interesting and fun, not boring!!) information. The cacao tasting experience was a fantastic touch that again I would have paid for. Friendly and helpful guide who was in no way pushy for tips (which made us want to give him more!) I recommended to friends who had a free day in Quito, and would recommend to others in the same situation!
The operator never showed up and communicated the location of the tour!
Alexus was my guide. He was so incredibly knowledgeable but also funny and friendly. He invited lots of questions and had great answers to almost everything that I could think to ask about. He highlighted not only the history that one could read about but also added historic, social, cultural, and political nuance that couldn't easily be found. I also had questions about things that I have observed, experienced, or heard about during my travel in Ecuador. Alexus was happy to also answer these broader questions. It was wonderful. I highly recommend this tour with Alexus.
Highly recommended. He was the best guide weI have had. He was knowledgable, communicated well with people, personable, he tells a good story, he knows so much of the history and is very kind. He was happy to take the time to answer any questions we had about Ecuador which we appreciated. At the end he stayed with us until he could flag a good taxi that would charge us a reasonable rate to get back to our hotel. Truly a caring person,
Alexis our guide was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his home town, he made the walk extremely interesting. Would highly recommend the trip to everyone.A
Very good orientation to historic area. Chocolate tasting was interesting and fun. Our guide was very knowledgeable
Guide was very knowledgeable about the history and the pace was excellent. The chocolate was very good.
I loved Old Town and this tour! It’s tip-based (not free), so bring cash — and it’s absolutely worth it. Our guide was very knowledgeable and shared great history about Quito, its churches, cacao, and La Ronda. Be ready to walk and wear comfortable shoes. Arrive early to visit the Basilica (not included in the tour) — it’s stunning!
Guide is energetic and very informative about the history and stories about Old Town. Highly recommended.
Great tour. About 2 hours for 2 of us. Lots of history and interesting information. Easy-going. Not rushed. We'll worth your time.
An excellent tour. We highly recommend Alexis. He was very knowledgeable about Quito , its history and cultural influences. The churches were great and the chocolate tasting experience was quite informative.
The guide was friendly and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend him.
Excellent. Very informative. Alex goes beyond and above what we expected. You wont be disappointed. He is a local who is proud of his city
Alexis was a fantastic guide—friendly, very knowledgeable, and helpful. I would definitely do another tour with him.
Alexis was probably the most polite, charming and well informed tour guide we have met in many years. Nothing was trouble to him.
This 2-hour tour was a great introduction to the historical center of Quito. Highly recommend starting off with it to learn some foundational facts and then exploring on your own. I appreciated the cacao tasting - there was no pressure to buy (though I did later, from the same company). At the end the guide pointed me in the direction of a fresh and friendly lunch spot where I enjoyed vegetarian choclos. Tour is free so tip generously.
Alexis was truly a great guide! His tour is very well thought out and put together, and he is extremely knowledgeable about every single stop on the tour. He also paces the tour in a way that is suitable for everyone. Overall, it was an amazing experience!
We took a 3-hour walking tour of Old Town Quito with AYLLU Tours, and it was a wonderful experience. Our guide, Alexis, was friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about Quito’s history and culture. The tour covered many of the most important monuments and landmarks in the historic center, with great explanations of the architecture, churches, plazas, and history. It was informative without feeling overwhelming and moved at a comfortable pace. One of the highlights was the Ecuadorian chocolate tasting, which was a lovely extra and especially fun for our 3.5 year-old. We also had a fun, unexpected moment when we ran into a well-known “famous” Andean music group who were taking photos, and they kindly let me take a picture with them. This tour is very walkable but worth noting that strollers and wheelchairs are not recommended. The streets are cobblestone, uneven, and the area is quite hilly, which can make pushing a stroller challenging. Overall, this was a great way to explore Old Town Quito and learn about the city from a local perspective. I highly recommend AYLLU Tours if you are visiting Quito.
Great walk and informative. Showed us the old town of Quito. Alexis did great, well spoken and gave us advice on local places.
Our tour with Alexis was wonderful! He shared so much of the Ecuadorean and Quiteño cultural heritage- history, religion, and local legends that we found most interesting. The tour was very engaging and the chocolate tasting was awesome; we learned so much while enjoying some lovely flavours. Thank you again Alexis for the wonderful tour including insider tips! We highly recommend this tour of Quito's old town to everyone.
We had a fantastic time learning about the historical area of Quito with Alexis. The tour size was quite small which made it feel personal and tailored to our wants. The Cacoa tasting was fantastic too. I cannot recommend this tour enough!
Alex did a wonderful job showing me around his city. Very informative and enjoyable. Highly recommend!
Alexis was a a great guide and fun to hang with. While hearing about all the churches, basilicas, and cathedrals is interesting, I enjoyed more hearing about the history of Quito as well as the culture of the old historic center today.
My husband and I decided last minute to book a Quito walking tour with Alexis. Let me tell you, he exceeded every expectation and then some! He is truly a special person who you will be grateful to call a friend by the end of your tour. The tour itself was chock full of fascinating historical information of Quito. We are leaving our tour feeling satisfied that we learned more than enough. Alexis was accommodating, knowledgeable, friendly, kind, and considerate. 10/10 would recommend. Don't hesitate to book with him!!

Alexis did an excellent walking tour of the old city. He was deeply knowledgeable, his English was excellent, and he was great company throughout the tour. He took time to share fascinating legends and historical stories, and he explained in detail the history and architecture of the different churches we visited. We also visited the cacao museum and enjoyed a tasting of the different chocolates, which was very interesting, and finished the tour with a canlazo tasting. Overall, it was a wonderful experience — highly recommended
