Itinerary
This impressive lagoon was formed in the crater of an inactive volcano and is one of the most beautiful and visited places in the country. On the tour, you will be able to observe the bottom of the lagoon from the viewpoint. We descend to the lagoon, where you can rent a kayak for a tour around the lagoon (not included in the tour). After the ascent we have lunch and return to Quito
This stunning canyon is a popular tourist destination due to its scenic beauty, unique geological formations, and the opportunity for various outdoor activities.
One of the most popular activities in Quilotoa is walking around the crater. There is an approximately 9 kilometer trail that takes you to the edge of the crater and allows you to enjoy impressive panoramic views. The hike can be challenging due to the altitude, but it is a rewarding experience. If you want to experience the lagoon in a unique way, you can rent kayaks or take boat rides to explore its waters from a different perspective.

We spent a great day on this tour, Quilotoa is definitely worth a visit. Special thanks to our guide Joselo!
Very nice experience with stops on the way. Guiding by Joel
The tour was great! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great experience! DAVID our guide did a fantastic job keeping us all engaged, informed and safe during the tour. Big thank you to DAVID.
I’m from Costa Rica, and this was my first solo trip. I must say it exceeded all my expectations. Meeting new people, enjoying the tours and transportation, and especially having Anthony as our guide made the experience unforgettable. He truly has a gift for what he does. His communication, both in Spanish and English, was impeccable, and he made every tour safe, enjoyable, and fun. I am very grateful and highly recommend Ecosportour Ecuador. 🇨🇷❤️🇪🇨
We had a wonderful experience and would like to say a big thank you to the team for all their help and support. Everything was well organized, and from the very beginning we felt that someone was always there if we needed anything. Throughout the trip, the team was always available, answered all of our questions quickly, even when they weren't directly related to the tours, and was happy to help in any way they could. It made our trip so much easier and more enjoyable. We really appreciated the friendly attitude, great communication, and genuine willingness to help. Everything went smoothly, and we couldn't be happier with our experience. Thank you so much—we would definitely recommend this company to others!
A wonderful experience and definitely worthwhile. The views were amazing and the tour guide was very kind and helpful!
Stefy was a fabulous guy. We learned so much about Ecuador, and the sites we visited, her experience in Ecuador, and the history of the country. Her knowledge base was phenomenal. She had me and my two teenage children captivated. And that takes a lot!
The experience was amazing. Everything worked like clockwork. Overall I highly recommend it.
Perfect experience. Everything was very well organized during the d’au. It was a wonderful trip to Quilotoa with Anthony and Alex. This place is amazing. We also had the chance to visit a local market and an indigenous house. That was very interesting and very well explained by Anthony.
I had a really great experience on the Quilotoa Lagoon trip. The views were absolutely beautiful, the food was very good, and the whole day was very well organized. Our guide, Antony, explained everything clearly and made the experience really enjoyable and easy to follow. The admission fee was fine and it wasn’t crowded much. On the way back there was unfortunately a reroute, so the drive took much longer than expected, but Antony and our driver Alex handled the situation very professionally. They kept everyone informed, stayed calm, and made us feel safe and comfortable the entire time despite the delay. Overall, it was an amazing experience and I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Ecuador!
I had a wonderful time, no complaints here! The driver and the guide were both very friendly and welcoming the moment the tour started until it ended.
Everything was on time. Joel, our guide, and Alex, our driver, were incredibly professional. Joel gave us insightful information of Quito and its surrounding area. The hike was incredible. The admission fee was incredibly cheap. The tour crowd size was small so it was easy for us to get to know each other, making the whole trip very enjoyable. Joel was a real pro.
Quilotoa Loop is beautiful! It is steep and sandy, physically challenge. The cultural stops are interesting, leaning about aboriginal people’s daily living.
I really enjoyed the experience at Quilotoa Lagoon! My friend and I went to Ecuador for our Spring break and would definitely recommend this experience. I will say the the hike is pretty difficult, and I was only 1 of 3 group members who made it down and back up by walking. Everyone else either turned around or had to get a horse. The horses also seemed very tired and did not seem to want to continue taking people down and up. I would do this if you have good stamina as the altitude and incline make the trek difficult! The views are just as good at the top as they are at the bottom to be honest. Our guide Anthony was great and very knowledgeable! It was great how he was able to switch between Spanish and English after every sentence.
I had a great time, our guide David was very organized, knowledgeable and fun. We got interesting insights in the culture of the indigenous andean communities and got to see the amazing Quilotoa crater. Would recommend!
We took this one day tour the next day we came back from the Galapagos. We had a firm filled and fulfilling day. The itinerary is exceptional with visits to the indigenous people’s market and their traditional habitat. The lagoon is breathtaking. Our guide, Anthony was extremely knowledgeable and helpful when we were walking down a very slippery slope down to the lagoon. Highly recommended touring operator.
Excellent experience, Anthony and the driver were very professional and friendly, both of them did a fantastic job,
Excellent experience. Our guide was nice, very knowledgeable and helpful. The tour is well organized and the activities are great. I specially appreciate that you get to meet a family from the Andes and learn about them.
Excellent time at Quillotoa, gorgeous hiking and excellent food. Victor was great, helpful, and friendly! Definitely recommend!
The experience was amazing. The drive itself from quito was cool and stopping to learn about the indigenous cultures and grabbing breakfast was a nice touch. Having lunch after quilotoa was nice.
An amazing experience!! Highly recommend. Comfortable transport and easy meet up location. Quilotoa is very beautiful and worth the hike. The included lunch was also delicious and filling. Anthony was an amazing tour guide who is extremely knowledgeable and instantly makes you feel comfortable. I would do it again!!
Joel was very friendly, full of knowledge and had great sense of humour. Highly recommend him as a guide. Quinotoa is great
This was my second hike with Antoni and Alex. As always, excellent service, true professionals: friendly, responsive, smiling, and overall great vibes.
The lagoon was absolutely beautiful. Joel, our guide, shared very interesting and useful information that helped us better understand the place. He was also very supportive during this challenging hike. Highly recommended!
This was a fantastic tour to get the most out of one day! Anthony and Ramio were great, anthony had great English and I really appreciated him explaining both in Spanish and English. We stopped at an indigenous house where we learnt about the foods and got to see the houses, then the lake (the descent and ascent is hard- but I went halfway down and just chilled to enjoy the view), and lunch was great, and then we got to see a canyon which broke up the trip nicely. It was a great day- we packed a lot in!
Quilotoa is a must see when visiting Ecuador! Going down was super easy a bit steep, but man hiking back up to the parking lot was killer! Be mentally prepared if you go all the way down to the lake. If you choose not to the views were just as great at the top or halfway. I paid $10 for mule ride back up, but felt so bad the mule and person handling the mule were sooo tired. It gets quite hot! I wouldn't change a thing I did though!
Victor was a phenomenal guide! It was really cool to see the indigenous community. The hike down Quilotoa lake was fun and not bad, but the hike up was so hard! But totally worth it. It was a great trip overall!
The tour was very nice. The tour guides took us to nice pla es and we were able to enjoy nice sites because of them. We felt very safe the entire time. I may do this again on my own time, but with a different group of friends and family.
I had a lot of fun doing the stops along the way to quilotoa. And quilotoa itself is beautiful. I would recommend bringing good shoes and some sort of dust protectant (buff). The trail is dusty and slippery. The only one thing I would say is that I booked my trip through my hostel and it was very unclear where the pickup was. I showed up early to the plaza and no one else was there and I had no idea where to go. This might be poor communication from the hostel and not the travel company. Victor was a fabulous guide!! He made the tour wonderful!
The trip to Quilatoa was overall a great experience. David our guide was knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour. The stop at the local marketta and community were very interesting. Lunch was delicious. Fabulous day out.
Our tour with Joel was great. He told us a lot about Ecuador, about culture, history and lots of interesting facts. He answered to all ours questions. He took care of our group with some very helpful tips. Highly recommended the tour with Joel 🤩
My experience was excellent. We did 3 tours- Quilotoa, Mindo and Cotopaxi. Quilotoa with Joel and Mindo with David were excellent tours. I learned so much about this country thanks to this tours as well some words in Quichua. We did many different stops before our final destination. All guides went beyond on the tours. Cotopaxi was little disappointment. Comparing with Quilotoa and Mindo we didn’t do any stops prior Cotopaxi (just for breakfast) and I didn’t learn anything new on this tour. Cotopaxi itself was beautiful because we had nice weather. It was the shortest tour from the 3 and I had mixed feeling about it. Overall I would recommend this company.
Excellent!!! day tour for SINGLES. I liked the Toachi Canyon/visit to the Indigenous Community and the Quilotoa Lagoon.
Very enjoyable day trip to Quilotoa, including an interesting visit to an indigenous family. Victor was an excellent guide for the day, and Patricio's driving was reliable in some torrential rain on the way back. Victor gave us the options of what to do at Quilotoa very clearly. We chose walking on the rim trail as the best option for us. Lunch was included, provided at a restaurant near Quilotoa, and the food was good, with the vegetarian version being very good. There was also a stop at a fairly impressive canyon, where we had the choice to pay $1 each to enter for slightly better views. Perhaps the only minor negative is that the description on Viator said that entrance to Quilotoa is included. In fact we had to pay, but it's only $2 per person. It is a long drive from Quito, so be prepared for a long day out. But the crater at Quilotoa is a spectacular sight, and worth it.
Ecosportour recommended Steffi for a walking tour in historic part of Quito. I didn’t realize it would be a private tour. It was an amazing experience. So warm and she loved sharing the highlights of the rich history. I highly recommend Steffi!
We had a great time on our trip to the lake. David had tons of facts and he answered all of our questions and gave us extra details. He even pulled over to allow additional pics and the local home and lama visit was an extra treat. Great trip and a true value for the money. Thanks David.
Wonderful day trip from Quito. Organized very well so that the 3 hour trip each way is not tiring at all. Wonderful stops visiting traditional indigenous market, gorgeous canyon, as well as an Indigenous village, with super interesting exposure to their Living, Crops, Animals etc… David, our guide was an amazing man, speaking perfect english and with Fantastic vibes. Everyone in our group Loved this trip. Thank you so very much.
It was many information from the county, from the people they live outside the city. Kilotoa is beautiful,we had a really good weather, the day was perfect. Enough information and enough nature. Thanks!
Definitely worth booking with this company. They were very punctual to pick us up. David was our tour guide and not only provided us with great information, he even bought us a small snack and bananas before we arrived at our destination. Quilotoa is a mazing site, it was sunny and we did kayak inside of the volcano. Lunch was almost the best part! After a tough but rewarding hike up to the ridge, we had a delicious lunch! We got back late, but it was all worth it. You won't regret it.
They picked us from-to our hotel near airport. The tour started in the city. The Quilotoa is far from the city, so there were several good stops between. We visited a nice indian village and had a photo stop looking a big canyon. Also some coffee stops, good! The Quilotoa itself was amazing! There were also possible to buy indian products! It was a nice place! When coming back, we had a free lunch. There was included a suo, main food and a dessert and a drink. The main You could chooze from fish, meat or chicken. All were very delicious! I’ll recommend their excursions
The trip was amazing and the views were stunning. The tour guide, Stui is exceptional. We learned a lot about the history and culture of Ecuador.
This was a great day. Quilotoa Crater is exceptional and the guide Victor was very thorough in his explanation of everything and his positive energy was contagious. We used this tour group twice and would use them again in the future in a heartbeat.
We booked the day trip to Quilotoa. David was our tourguide for the day and he did an excellent job. He made our day extra enjoyable; very funny, lots of information and very attentive. At the market we stopped at, David showed us round and we had a typical ecuadorian breakfast. Then we stopped at an indigenous family who explained their traditions. We were lucky to have a clear sky. It was absoluty beautiful to see the volcanoes and then walking down the krater; just amazing. I can certainly recommend the tour. We had a fantastic day!
Thank you for our tour guide David. The trip to Quilotoa was very knowledgable, exciting and fun. I liked the lagoon view, indigenous market, and the lunch at the restaurant. Would recommend
I went on the tour our tour guide was David he was really good helpful and do his best we went many places and overall he is a good guide his English is good so communication is no issue as well
It was an amazing experience! David was a really cool tourguide who showed that he loved his work and gave us amazing information about the crater lake. The distance is far but it was worth it! I would definitely recommend doing this tour with David!
Nice hike to Quilotoa, magnificant views. Great guide (David). On the way, we stopped at a local market for breakdast, which was great as well. The hike itself is a bit touristic. Going down to the laguna inside the volcano and up again on a road that was built for this purpose.
The day with our tourguide Stui was very nice! He‘s so funny and we learn alot about the highland. I will never forget this adventure.
It was a fantastic day. The lake was stunningly beautiful and our guide, David, was brilliant. Very informative and even took lots of photos for us, which he then shared with us all. Also a great lunch. Highly recommend this tour
