We had an amazing day with Francisco taking us to our chosen sights!! He punctually picked us up at our hotel. He was very personable & informative as drove us around and told us about our surroundings. I really appreciate the flexibility of this tour to allow us to pick the sights that were of the greatest interest to us. My top priority was to see the Intiñan Equator Museum. We went there first & I found it very interesting. My husband & I ended up enjoying the San Tadeo birding the most. So amazing to have multiple hummingbirds come feed out of our hands! Francisco was open to let us have more time here. He ended up spending more time with us that day than he probably intended but said he was happy to do so. We tipped a little extra for his wonderful service! I would highly recommend this tour!!

We had the mst amazing day and experiences with Franscico. He was knowlegeable, friendly, fun, and made sure we were well taken care of. The activites were well planned and so fun. The hummingbird experiance was beyond amazing as they landed right on our hands and there were so many of them. The butterfield were beautiful and the zip lining was so much fun zipping through the clour forest. Learning how chocolate is made and tasting all the different kinds, including getting a chocolate mask on our faces, was interesting and fun. Francisco stopped numerous times during the day to get us little surprise tastes of Ecuadorian delights. It was a fantastic day that we will not forget.
It was a great day out of the city. We saw the various climates around Quito, spent time in Mindo, explored the butterfly farm, did some hiking (which was the highlight) - and added in a cute little Orchid place instead of the chocolate tour. The guides were really great, attuned to what we wanted to do, and the only thing we'd do differently is hike for longer and see more waterfalls.
On time, flexible, helpful, and knowledgeable! Danny, our guide, and Jeff, our driver were outstanding
Great day from feeding birds by hand to chocolate tour to zip lining and more. Francisco was knowledgeable, willing to make the day ours and never rushed us.
We had the best time touring with Cisco! He guided us on a private tour that included visiting the Pululahua dormant volcano and the Cultural Village next to the Middle of the World, followed by exotic bird watching and hummingbird feeding at San Tadeo. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch stop at Serenity Mindo Lounge Bar before zip lining through the forest at Mindo Canopy, and finished with the delicious and educational chocolate tour at Yumbos. On the way out if Mindo he stopped so we could take photos at the famous Mindo sgn and tge actual Mitad monument lit up with neon lighs. Cisco made every moment fun while sharing his deep knowledge of Ecuador’s history, culture, and nature. He kept us engaged, safe, and entertained the entire time. His energy, humor, and expertise turned an already amazing itinerary into an unforgettable adventure. Cisco is truly an excellent guide, and we highly recommend him to anyone looking for a private tour that is both fun and informative. He went above and beyond to make our experience special, and we hope his manager sees the tremendous value he brings to every guest. Cisco is the kind of guide who makes a company shine. We took this tour 9/14/25 at $110 p.p.
Francisco was a fantastic guide. Very patients with our Young kids. He ido very knowledgable and shared that with us. We spent a full and then some It was quite a trip. We enjoyed It immensely.
The tour was excellent- our guide Daniel was really informative & flexible to our needs. The tour met all our expectations
Great tour! Christian was an excellent guide. Very friendly and knowledgeable. He was able to tailor the tour to the things I was most interested in seeing -- a beautiful volcanic crater, a chocolate factory (complete with delicious tasting!), a butterfly farm, a birding center where I was able to hand-feed hummingbirds, and a delicious Ecuadorian lunch. It was a wonderful day!
Awesome trip, great guide, flexible programme. Picked up on time, could go at our own pace for the day. The guide Marco Herrera was kind and well informed.
My family of 4, with two young kids, had a lovely day out with Christian. I would recommend him to anyone. We especially loved visiting Pomas Quinde, a bird sanctuary in the suburbs of Quito - it’s the kind of place that would be very difficult to find on your own.
Never showed up. Didn't reply to any texts or pick up phone. Waited an hour. Trip advisor was no help. Spent $200 on this for my last day and they won't even give me an instant refund.
We had a great day with Christian! He is extremely knowledgeable, very kind, and speaks great English. The tour was great and it was great to be able to customize our trip based on how the day progressed.
Awesome trip! David and Louis picked us up exactly on time and made sure we had an awesome day exploring the Mindo Cloud Forest. We saw the hummingbirds and butterflies and did the canopy zipline (10 lines). Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a private trip. Only feedback is that we never received a confirmation WhatsApp message the night before which we were expecting but this might have been due to confusion with the booking agent.
Pick up on time by David and Louis at 8am Excellent commentary on geography and history in transit. We were able to personalise our activities and chose humming birds, canopy zip line and butterflies. It’s a 2 hour drive to the hummingbird site and the road is winding for an hour so if you get car sick be ready. The hummingbirds were plentiful and just beautiful. Multiple species and they feed from your hands! We then were so fortunate to see 2 species of toucan, multiple tanagers, and squirrels. David’s knowledge of the birds was excellent. Spectacular and unique experience. The zip line was so much fun. We did the 10 lines in an hour and it was a thrill flying above the canopy. The staff are so professional and the 2 cable system makes you feel very safe. At only $20 USD this adventure is fabulous value for money. We had a delicious lunch at Serenity in Mindo and bought some chocolate from Paccari. Finally visited the butterfly enclosure. Arrived back in Quito at 6 so a long day. Wonderful trip and would thoroughly recommend it,
We enjoyed visiting the cloud forest and hummingbirds, butterflies, chocolate tour very much. Rick also found a good lunch place.
Francisco my guide/driver was awesome he was kind, funny and extremely knowledgeable about the area. The Mindo Cloud Forest is an absolutely gorgeous place with kind and welcoming locals. The entire expirence was fantastic had a lot of fun and never felt unsafe especially being a young solo female traveller. I would definitely recommend to this tour for anyone of all ages.
Marco was out tour guide. He is very good and speaks good English. However was able to practice my Spanish with him. He collected us right outside our hotel on time. He explained the days activities and set us on an adventure. The car was clean and comfortable. We firstly stopped at a bird watching attraction, which was very good. Small entrance fee $10 for 2. Coffee etc is available free at the bird watching area. Very interesting. We then drove onto and through Mindo up through the tree cloud forest to reach the cable car and forest walking centre. We got the cable car across the gauge, great views and then did the good walking trail down to the waterfall, then back up the other side to come out by the cable car start. Great views. Marco explaining various local items. The cable car costs $10 for 2. We then headed to the butterfly attraction, again very good. Entrance $12 for 2. We then stopped in the town of Mindo for lunch, with Marco offering various options to eat. Loads of choice. After lunch we then walked through the town to the chocolate factory. Entrance $20 for 2. At the chocolate factory the run a fully lead tour and talk. Very interesting and informative. We then headed back to Quito. A great day out and Marco was very good, and helped make the day. Well recommended.
A very beautiful place to visit and a great tour with a very knowledgeable guide. Some beautiful scenery and birds and butterflies.
Francisco was our guide and driver. He was very accommodating with our departure time, and arrived promptly. His English is very good, he is patient, and we felt safe with his driving. We visited a dormant volcano, an amazing hummingbird garden, butterflies, and a chocolate factory. We never felt rushed and he was thoughtful of our every need. He even treated us to yucca bread and cacao water. Overall a great experience. Highly recommend.
Francisco our guide was very personable and informative. Enjoyed our entire day. Made a couple of stops before activities in Mindo... seeing butterflies and hummingbirds, finding out about chocolate production and ziplineing.
Our guide Francisco was very knowledgeable and accommodating. He is a very good driver. The hummingbird sanctuary was amazing, zip lining was fun and allowed us to see the forest differently, we even saw toucans. The chocolate tour was awesome and the chocolate is so tasty. The butterfly farm was expensive for what we saw. We vould have skipped it. Highly recommend this tour
A beautiful day, with a great and super friendly driver that has been a great companion all day: Francisco! We have done many different activities, which were very well distributed along the way (so you won't spend too much in the car, maybe only in the way back). Really funny and satisfying. Thank you again Francisco, we will always recommend you. 🙌🏻
This was a great day trip with Francisco. Basically everything was great. Our 9 year old especially enjoyed the ziplining. It was a real treat to get to feed the hummingbirds. The chocolate tour was actually very interesting and educational in addition to being tasty. We always love a good butterfly garden, but one advantage of this one was there were LOTS of blue moros.
Marco Herrera was an amazing and fun guide to be with. He let us tailor the tour to our liking. He showed lots of hummingbirds an incredible waterfall, butterflies and even made time for chocolate factory tour. Thank you for this great experience.
A great day out from Quito. We visited a variety of places with no time pressure. It was a relaxing drive and the whole experience was excellent.
We loved the encounter with the hummingbirds and the zip lining. We did not have time for the butterflies. The chocolate tour was the best we ever experienced. Sergio was an amazing guide. Francisco did a wonderful job tailoring the tour to meet our needs.
My mom and I had the most fabulous tour of Mindo with our guide Israel! He was absolutely wonderful - everything you'd want in a guide. He was full of incredibly informative information, and he really made the tour fun! I would recommend this tour anytime, especially with Israel!
Christian was knowledgeable about all things Mindo and beyond. He provided options on places to see, eat, hike such as, Yumbos artisanal chocolate factory, falls. Best guide we ever had. Very comfortable to be around: like a long time. Friend.
Our trip to the Mindo Cloud Forest was spectacular! Our private guide, Andres, was very knowledgeable, friendly and he tailored our trip to our unique interests. If want to experience the beauty of Ecuador at your leisure with a safe guide whose English is far more impeccable than your Spanish, this is the trip for you! We learned so much about the amazing history of Ecuador while taking in its majestic beauty, flora and fauna. This trip reunited us with the wondrous realization that our planet is a precious gift and we have a huge responsibility to pay it forward to future generations!
Dani was a fantastic guide! He was so knowledgeable about both Mindo and Ecuador as a whole. He showed us why Mindo is such a special place and was very kind to us. ¡Te quiero amigo!
I had a great experience on this tour and recommend it! I booked it pretty last-minute, but the company was very responsive, and my guide, Francisco, was wonderful. He was as much of a highlight of this tour as the scheduled events themselves. And he takes great photos!! I would do it over again!
What a fabulous day! Fransisco is an wonderful guide, his English is excellent, he is very knowledgeable and anything he didn't know, he found out for us. He listened to what we wanted to do and made sure we weren't disappointed. We really enjoyed his company and felt safe and well taken care of. The bird stop was better than expected, I could have spent hours there. The butterflies were fascinating, and the chocolate tour w as informative and delicious, I will probably never look at a chocolate bar the same way again. We waned to go ziplining and the experience did not disappoint! An amazing day!
Christian picked us up on time and gave us a thorough tour of the sights around Mindo. He clearly loves sharing the wildlife and history of his country! He was a good driver on windy, bumpy roads. His English was excellent and he was flexible with a couple of extra stops we wanted to make.
An safe, incredible, unforgettable experience. As a young solo female traveler, it can be nerve wracking to book tours alone. However, Marco was an amazing guide who not only made me feel super comfortable, but was also super friendly and a great driver. I was picked up from my hotel at 8am, and we drove the beautiful trip to Mindo, chatting in Spanish, but he’s also fluent in English. Marco told me all that was available for me to choose from and completely allowed me to decide what things I wanted to do. We first stopped at a bird watching sanctuary where we saw the largest amount of hummingbirds I’ve ever seen in one place and I even got to hold a little feeder while they drank from it. Plus a scenic bird’s eye view of Mindo. Then drove through the small touristy part of Mindo and went to a short hike to a waterfall (1 mile total) that starts with a super fun cable car ride from one side of the valley to the other. Once we hiked back to the car (you’ll sweat on the way back up but it’s so worth it), we drove over to the Canopy adventures place so that I could go Ziplining!! This was the highlight. I truly felt a sense of euphoria and it was amazing. I did the 10 line track but they also have just 2 or 3 and a Tarzan swing and bicycling on the zip line too. Next we went back down to the town of Mindo and stopped at the butterfly farm (Mariposario) and the chocolate factory for a tour with lots of tasting opportunities. Then an easy 2hr drive back to my hotel. I definitely recommend this even for solo travelers and it could be even more fun (which is crazy because it was great) with friends, family, or a partner.
Francisco is an amazing tour guide and I highly recommend using him. We went to the equator line, a hummingbird sanctuary, a butterfly garden, ziplining, waterfall hike, and a chocolate factory. Note, you do have to pay for the excursions. It’s about $5-$7 each and ziplining is $20 for 10 lines. He tailors the tour to suit your needs and whatever you want to see so I never felt rushed from one place to the next. He’s a great driver as the roads are quite tricky. Highly recommend Francisco!
Francisco was an exceptional guide - very friendly, was really interesting and tailored the day to our interests. The hummingbirds, butterflies and chocolate tours were all good fun, and we had time for zip lining and a trip to a nearby valley. Thanks for taking such good care of us!
Our guide Marco was incredible! We learned so much about Ecuador and Quito on the way to and from Mundo. He was so accommodating of everything and made the day absolutely perfect! We all had a blast and got to do everything we wanted. Absolutely perfect day!
We had an amazing day with Francesco as our guide in Mindo. We saw some very nice birds and butterflies, the humming birds in particular were very impressive to us. But also our visit to the forest en the chocolate making process was excellent. Francesco was a great guide, sociable and happy to provide a lot of background information on Quito, Mindo, and anything else. Definitely recommend this as a day trip from Quito!
My friend and I had a wonderful experience with Francisco (of Andrean Roots company). He's an excellent guide (and driver, we felt very safe with his driving). We only have good feedback about him. He explained places we visited. He took the time to answer all our questions. He has a good sense of humor too. If you do this tour and can request to have him as your guide, pls do. :) Lastly, of course, the tour was excellent too. We enjoyed it.
We loved our trip to Mindo! It was easily one our favorite days in Ecuador. The guide was so nice and willing to tailor our experience to what ever we wanted. We stopped at the very informative museum of Intiñan, the pululahua volcano, hummingbird sanctuary (with other birds and orchids), a cable car to a waterfall hike, and lastly a chocolate tasting and tour of a very informative chocolate factory. Our guide was so knowledgeable about the history and culture of this area. He made us laugh and was extremely polite. Definitely recommended.
Francisco and Marco were my guides and I highly recommend them. They took very good care of me on the private tour and helped me select the things that I would like to do in Mindo. Francisco speaks excellent English and is great a great communicator. These guys made the day light hearted and fun. They took me to all of the things that I wanted to do in Mindo. I’ve traveled a lot, but never have done a private tour. I highly recommend it! Ask for Francisco and Marco!
David, the guide was very educational and flexible to meet our interests. Even with the mechanical car problems on the return to Quito, I rate him a 5.
We took this daytime to Mindo and it was great. This tour includes transportation, but not entrance into the places you visit. You can ask to do the things you like so every tour us us little different and thus costs different. We stopped at a Birding place first to see some local birds and tons of hummingbirds. There were so many different colors and types of hummingbirds. You see them up close as they have feeders you can hold in your hand. The other birds were few, but we weren't really here for the birding. The kids loved it. Cost was $5/person. Next we went zip-lining. The course had a 3 or 10 zipline option. We did the 10 ziplines which was $20/person. You zigzag back and forth across a valley on some really long ziplines. The cable is a two cable system with multiple points of connection for redundancy which is safer. Just be sure the person before you is off the line before you let them send you down. They give you a helmet but wear good shoes to hike in. It's not a lot of hiking, but there are a couple of uphill sections that will get you breathing. They have bathrooms and an office, but not much else. If they offered some items for sale I think they would do well, but there was nothing here to buy. They do let you zip superman style and upside down if you like. Great fun! Next we went to a butterfly garden which was an indoor butterfly aviary. There are bathrooms, a gift shop, restaurant and hiking trails with boots towers to climb, but the highlight is the butterflies! It was magical! Thousands of colorful butterflies all around. We could have sat here all day, it was that cool! They show you all of the life cycle of the butterfly and you can see the chrysalis' and even watch one 'harch' if you are lucky. This cost about $7.50/person. Next we went to a chocolate maker. We got to see every step of how they make chocolate bars at their organic farm with local ingredients. Then we got to try the ingredients and experimenting with our own creations while sipping cocoa tea. We chose to eat lunch at the Quetzal restaurant on-site as they had some unique items including a chocolate BBQ chicken, coffee sauce beef, yucca fries, quinoa salad, and more. We also picked up some artisan chocolate. For 4 of us, the tour and our meals and drinks, and the chocolate we purchased was about $75 total. I'm not sure of the breakdown, but without lunch and shopping it is probably $5-7/person for the tour. Then we headed back he to Quito. It was a wonderful day and our guide Christian was great.
Great day to learn about the what Ecuador has to offer! We went to the center of the world, a hummingbird garden, a butterfly garden, chocolate factory, drove through a cloud forest, and zip lining. One thing that surprised us and was not disclosed (at least we didn't see it) was we needed to bring cash to pay for all the places he brought us. It was not expensive, but we used all the cash we had on this excursion.
David and his assistant (tour guide in training) were absoltuely amazing. Once we got to Mindo, they gave us the option to do whatever we'd like. We ended us doing more than just the Butterfly farm and Chocolate tour and they were very flexible and easy going. However, no entrance fees were included so I felt as if it was slightly overpriced. I don't regret anything, however. David told us all about his country on the way back and it was obvious he loved what he did.
We had a wonderful day on our tour. Our guide, Patricio, was absolutely top-notch and went out of his way to ensure that we had a great time. Patricio is Ecuadorian, born in Ecuador, and raised in the Toronto area so he speaks perfect Spanish and English. We enjoyed the very informative tour of the Yumbos Chocolate artisan factory, that produces incredible chocolate and supports local women's coops. We then toured up the Mindo river to watch the rafters. It was then off to the Marioposario Nathaly to photograph hummingbirds, orchids, and butterflies. After delicious lunch, we started back towards Quito with a stop in the town of Calacali at one of the Equator monuments. It was off to Inti Nan Museum, referred to as the "real equator", where we had fun balancing eggs on the head of a nail and experimenting with draining tubs on each side of the equator and watching the direction of the water as it drained. Patricio then took us back to our hotel at the end of the tour.
We skipped the humming birds, as had seen them on our tour, but the butterfly area was nice, with plenty of varied butterflies. The chocolate factory was my real draw, and it was excellent. We were shown from start to finish how the choc. bar was made, given a plate of fruit and thick choc in which to dip it, a shot glass of choc. liqueur, and finally, a tray of samples of the various kinds of bars they made. I was positively high on chocolate when we finally left! Marcus was an excellent guide for this. He answered questions when asked, and also took us to see the original Mitad al Mundo monument, as he said we might not see it if not. Very nice man.
This tour, which we arranged through Viator, was through Andean Roots. Our guide, Christian, was more than we expected. He was friendly, polite, and so informative. He was a great driver, as the roads can be a challenge. We saw hummingbirds, orchids, butterflies and toured an artisanal chocolate factory. We had a delightful trip seeing a part of Ecuador we had not seen before. It would not have been as good had we not had such an excellent guide.
This was the first time in Ecuador for my traveling partner and I felt that our guide Christian did a wonderful job. He was so informative and friendly and a good driver to boot. It is quite a drive to Mindo and we stopped on the way to see the crater which was an interesting and worthwhile stop. We then went on to Mindo where we saw hummingbirds and other wildlife, orchids and the cloud forest. We ate at a lovely restaurant and the tour of the artisanal chocolate was really informative and enjoyable. We felt the trip was well worthwhile and fairly priced for a driver who also served as the tour guide for the entire trip.
