Ximena was absolutely fantastic and the driver was great as well. We had some bad luck with the weather and weren’t able to do all the things we wanted but, that’s no one’s fault. However, we booked a private tour and paid for a private tour and did not get a private tour. I would have been able to look past this and go with the flow but, communication and compensation should be addressed. I messaged the company when we got back and received no response. I would not recommend this tour if you truly want a private tour. That being said the day was fantastic and we had a great time.

Mindo – Nambillo is an ecological reserve, with approximately 22.000 hectares of primary forest. Inside this preserved area we can find a natural complex of 15 waterfalls, each one of them with a different height and beauty! Your guide will pick you up at 8:00 a.m. from your hotel in Quito, in order to visit this fascinating place full of wildlife!
Once at 1.900 meters above sea level (6,233 ft), hummingbirds, air plants, orchids and other surprising exotic species will take our full attention! After going all the way through the curvy road, we will stop at a Hummingbirds' farm to enjoy breath-taking experiences with this little creatures and the amazing scenery.
After being taking lots of pictures and slow-mo videos, you will drive down to Mindo village, which is located at the southern edge of the Choco/Andean hotspots of biodiversity that stretches from south-western Colombia to north-western Ecuador. The Mindo area has international importance for birds, designated as the first area in South America by Birdlife International in 1997. On this enchanting green kingdom a profusion of life awaits your discovery! This is why you will take a cable car ride that goes through a 530 meters-long-cable, to enjoy the landscapes at the other side of the mountains!
After the unforgettable cable car ride, it will be possible to hike around 1 hour, depending on your physical conditions, to visit the most beautiful waterfall known as “Nambillo”, where you could have a refreshing soak! Your private guided tour will acquaint you with the exuberant vegetation of the cloud forest, its birdlife and the fascinating adaptations to life in this special environment.
You will have time for lunch, if you consider necessary. Then you will have the option to have an unforgettable and educational dessert on a chocolate-tasting-tour!
If there is some time left it will be possible to do a visit to an orchid and butterfly farm. Approximately at 5:30 p.m. you'll be back in your hotel of Quito. End of this fantastic experience on a day packed of wonderful discoveries!

We had a fantastic day out with Ximena! She was a fantastic guide who worked with us to curate our outing to meet some accessibility needs our group had. Had a fantastic time seeing and feeding hummingbirds, getting to tour a chocolate producer as well as getting to see some amazing butterflies. The ease of being picked up and dropped back at our hotel was great also. Ximena is super knowledgeable and gave us lots of really interesting information about the area and activities we did, and provided us lots of options for what we could do throughout the day. Would highly recommend this tour!
Quito is quite large; hence, it takes a long while to get away from it and into the countryside. Nonetheless, the skilled driver (Pedro) made it comfortable to chat with our excellent guide (Hugo) and learn a lot and ask questions about Quito, Ecuador and the surroundings. We stopped in a small town to see an equator marker in an uncrowded setting, visited a hummingbird refuge abuzz with a wide variety of beautiful hummers, hiked to all the waterfalls in the Mindo Park, rode the cable car there and then had a lovely, well-earned lunch at a unique restaurant with great food and excellent bird watching. A full, memorable day!
Ivan is a great guide! He is punctual, knowledgeable re: cloud forest ecosystem. He pointed out birds to my husband, an avid birder. Having hummingbirds feed out of my hand was amazing, impressive varieties of butterflies and chocolate tasting included a tour of cacao processing into chocolate.
Our guide was great very knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommend the chocolate tour!!
Luis is an excellent guide and showed us the highlights of Mindo! We loved the hummingbirds and other beautiful birds. The hike and cable car ride was nice too. And the visit to the chocolate company was a fun and delicious diversion.
We loved this tour! We toured the Mindo cloud forest and stopped at a hummingbird sanctuary. Out guide (Andres) was very knowledgeable and friendly. We particularly enjoyed the hummingbirds, 100s of them flying around with their metallic feathers glistening in the sunlight. Such a great experience and a wonderful introduction to Ecuador’s diverse natural world!
Remarkable experiences that were tailored to our choices. Conscientious and knowledgeable guide!
Hugo was a wonderful guide! He was very prompt and accommodative of our schedule since we booked our day trip to Mindo the day we were leaving Quito. He had a lot of knowledge to share and offered suggestions on activities and timings based on the weather.
Guide is very flexible in adjusting to the activities one would like to have. Easy to converse with. Excellent driver.
Definitely recommend this day trip from Quito . Feeding the humming birds was amazing and so many of them. The trail to the falls can be a little steep but worth the hike to see the water falls. We also went to a chocolate making factory..............need I say anymore?!!
If you want to really good experience visiting the Mindo Cloud Forest, you need to take this tour. Not only does it include Mindo, it includes a stop at a hummingbird facility where you can have the hummingbirds feed out of your hand. It is so unique to see all the hummingbirds flitting around and then have one or two hover while they feed out of the container that is sitting on your hand. That was a fantastic experience. The hiking in the clown forest is a wonderful experience, especially as you can look to see whatever you're interested in. There are the birds. the wild orchids and bromeliads growing in the trees. as well as just the dense plants and environment that make the hike special as you go down to the waterfalls and river that flows through this area. Also, if you want the tour includes an extra stop that you pay for to go zip lining and it's thrilling and exhilarating to be flying over above the trees and through the canopy. Include as part of tour a stop at butterfly farm where you use some very ripe bananas to attract the butterflies. to land on your hand and eat the banana. It was something special to see the long, I guess, tongue of the butterfly going down to the banana to eat. This facility has butterflies and raises them from start to finish, and they have an area where you can see the butterflies at each stag: the egg, the larva, the pupa and finally the adult. There are also many different butterflies flying in the enclosed space, so you can see small ones brightly colored to very large butterflies that are all flying around as you walk in a several enclosed areas. There's also a stop where you get to enjoy some coffee, as well as learn about the entire process of how it's grown, selected, harvested, roasted, and then enjoyed. You have to be understand that this tour does involve sitting while your guy drives your from Quito and then back to Quito, but the scenery is amazing and changes and it shows you how the environment from Quito to Mindo has various zones. If you are as very lucky as we were coming back, you'll be treated to the site of three snow capped volcanoes. To the far north is the Cayambe volcano. The next volcano then is the Artisana. This to the east of Quito, and finally south of Quito is the volcano Cotopaxi. Our guide Ximena was very professional, but also very personal. She was very knowledgeable. the entire day and took time to explain what we were seeing and what we were going to be doing. She was probably one of the better tour guides I've experienced.
Jemina is a friendly and informed guide. She picked us up at our airport hotel and took us to the Mindo area. The drive is a little long but it was a fun way to spend the day.
A fantastic day at Mindu cloud forest and hummingbird bird sanctuaries. Thanks to William our Tour Guide for his local knowledge and who went out of his way to ensure we had a wonderful day. A great ambassador for Quito and Ecuador.
What an amazing day! Ximena was so lovely and so knowledgeable about everything in the cloud forest. Honestly it was more like hanging out with a friend than a guide. She gave us so many options when she picked us up and let us curate and add as many things as we wanted onto our trip. It really made the day so memorable and an event that we will no doubt be talking about for the rest of our lives. I could not recommend going on a tour with her more. I wish we could spend more time with her in the cloud forest. We have already started planning our next trip full of visits with Ximena.
We loved our private tour of Mindo. Ximena was very knowledgable about the flora and fauna of the cloud forest. We greatly appreciated her flexibility in taking us to see Catequilla - the ancient indigenous astronomical site located on the true equator. After the cloud forest hike we had a wonderful lunch at a small restaurant that was perched in the cloud forest, trees and birds all around us. We took a brief tour around the town (by then it was pouring) and she showed us the other activities that you can do in mindo. On the drive back to Quito, we learned about the areas and indigenous cultures of Quito. We highly recommend Ximena!
Our tour guide Ximena was amazing. We went in the Mindo Cloud tour and got to feed hummingbirds and butterflies. Hiked to the waterfall. We stopped for lunch at the greatest place to bird watch. Ximena was knowledgeable, funny and knew some great stops. Great experience!
Diana was a great guide. She was punctual, professional, knowlegable and lots of fun! Feeding the hummingbirds was magical and the hike thru the Mindu Cloud Forest was challenging but rewarding and beautiful. Our last stop was a coffee tasting and we loved it! Overall a great experience and a great day! We highly recommend this tour!
Ximenez was a great guide. She showed me what I wanted to see and did her best to get me back to my hotel in time. She knew a lot about the plants and animals in the forest and even took me to a great coffee place.
Ivan was a fantastic guide! Very knowledgeable about Ecuador and its plants and animals (especially birds), flexible, and willing to tailor to our interests. We had some extra time and were able to add an experience (at our expense) to see some more birds. The hummingbird experience was beyond expectations. The hike was a little challenging in spots, but seeing the waterfall was worthwhile. The butterflies were beautiful and numerous. Ivan was able to accommodate multiple dietary restrictions for lunch. Overall, highly recommend!
The hummingbird experience was a once in a lifetime experience. Hugo was an amazing guide. So very knowledgeable on a breadth of topics and a genuinely nice man. We did the chocolate tasting and it was done very personally. Do the chocolate mask. Well worth it. We had a 2nd chocolate tasting at another company in Quito and it didn't come close to the one we did in Mindo.
My guide was the friendliest guys I ever met nothing was a problem anything I wanted to do he was up for always come up with great ideas for the day 1000/10
If you have poor balance or any concerns with your knees/back, beware that the waterfall hike portion in Mindo is very slippery. Bring hiking shoes and hiking poles or as to skip it to avoid injury. I slipped (I have bad balance) and luckily walked away with only a bruised tailbone and elbow. Otherwise, the place is beautiful and interacting with the hummingbirds (so many different kinds!!) is magical.
Diana was an incredible tour guide. The coffee, chocolate, and hummingbird experiences were unique and quite fun. Would recommend!
Diyana filled our day with fun and laughter! She knew all the most incredible places and let us move at our own pace. She was full and very knowledgeable about the plants, animals and history of the areas we visited. What an amazing time!
I had a great day with Ivan as my guide. We saw lots of hummingbirds up close, even sitting in my hand. We had a nice hike to a waterfall and rode the tram back. Then we went to another reserve to see Tanagers, more hummingbirds of every color and size. We even saw Toucanets! Great day!
We had no idea what to expect of Ecuador, but we've been bowled over. The scenery is beautiful, the people warm and friendly. Our guide today was Mariam, from the start she was engaging and informative. As for value, incredible. Nothing prepared us for feeding humming birds out of our hand. A coffee at a local café broke up the journey to Mindo. The Cloud Forest started with a cable car, down a valley to a waterfall for a swim and then a challenging return up to the car. Finally a visit to the Yumbos Chocolate museum and outlet for the best $10 with a tour, hot chocolate and then a tasting. Brilliant, Miriam, you're a star.
This was a great tour and a good way to see Mindo if you can only do a day trip. Our guide Ximena (?) was excellent. She was very knowledgeable and funny providing lots of information throughout the day. The itinerary of the tour was able to be flexed to our interests. We did the waterfall walk, hummingbirds, Zipline and butteryfly garden. We also added on an additional hummingbird visit at the end after mentioning we had yet to see a toucan on our travels, luckily at this site we were able to see two different species! Ximena knew lots about the different bird and plant species we saw. We would throughly recommend this tour!
I went solo, and the activities were amazing! Ximena was a fantastic guide. Mindo has me wanting to come back. Highly recommend
Great service. Offered optional stops. Guide easy to work with and knowledgeable.
Diana was a great tour guide! She was very informative and kind, and the tour itself was very flexible so we were able to do what we thought was most interesting for us. The hummingbirds in Mindo was also incredibly unique!
Definitely ride the bicycle on the zip line. Feeding the humming birds was awesome. A lot of scenic views in the beautiful mountains. With lots of driving. Xemina ( probably spelled wrong.) Was an amazing tour guide? I highly recommend her. She's very knowledgeable and knows the area very well. She gave us a very personal experience. Based on our needs and our abilities.
Ivan was a wonderful guide. We liked the flexibility of choosing what activities we did to tailor the trip to our wants. Two of our group were able to ride the cable car both ways while the other two were able to do the hike to the waterfall and ride the cable car back which was very nice. Ivan was informative and easy to understand. And we had the best driver, Angel, who drove expertly on the narrow, bumpy road to the cable car.
The Windo Cloud Forests is widely advertised a one of top attractions in Ecuador. So, we took this private one day tour due to our limited time. But we felt this tour is overrated. We only observed two to three types of birds; only one waterfall for us to go, which was not very impressive; the chocolate factory experience was good; but the butterfly garden is small per our experience with other similar settings; On the other hand, our tour guide was worm and very friendly and took many photos for us. He talked a lot but not always focused on the subjective of the culture, background, and history of the area we toured on. We highly expected the guide to give as much as info he could presented to us for where we were visiting, for which we were a bit disappointed.
Miriam was an excellent tour guide. Very personable; very knowledgeable; great communicator. This is a long day’s trip, but well worthwhile. Mindo is a fascinating town; and the hike to the waterfalls wasa great way to appreciate the biodiversity of the area. The hike back up to the cable car was a bit of an altitude challenge. Hummingbirds were spectacular, and the stop at the chocolate factory was educational and fun.
Ximena was a wonderful tour guide and we had a great time and enjoyed being able to adjust the itinerary for what we preferred to do
Amazing experience with Ximena. Was able to cram in a whole bunch of activities for our first day in Ecuador. Perfect start to our vacation.
We had a great time and learned so much about the butterflies, hummingbirds, foliage, and the Mindo area. We had an amazing tour guide Luis! He made sure we got to explore all the opportunities represented including the chocolate tour to ensure our expectations were met. We highly recommend this tour!
This tour was fantastic! Seamless from start to finish with prompt pick up and drop off at hotels, the guide was wonderful as well. Highly recommend this trip if you have a day to spend while in Quito.
Incredible couples massage, i had a pregnancy massage that hit all the right spots. The bed was actually set up comfortably for a pregnant person and really good pressure was used, i was very happy and so was my husband.
Fun experience with options to tweak to what suited our taste best. Our tour guide Diana was excellent, with honest and helpful suggestions and great working knowledge and history of Ecuador. Wonderful time!
Was a nice day to spend the day . The guide was very good and knowledgeable. The hamibgbirds was so beautiful. The cloud forest beautiful. The way to there and back was a little too long .
The experience was great. Mindo Forrest Cable Car was very busy however due to the weekend. Made our Waterfall experience slightly less. Recommend walking sticks during the hike. Loved the hummingbird stop. Freddy our Guide/Driver was excellent. Very knowledgeable and friendly and easy to understand in English.
We had an amazing trip to the Mindo Cloud Forest. Carlos was an awesome guide. The cable car ride, hike to the falls, butterflies and hummingbirds! What an incredible experience.
Hermena and driver were great and flexible Experience outside of the city either butterflies n hummingbirds worth the trip
This was one of our favorite days. Our driver was a wonderful man and a safe driver which I really appreciated. He was very patient and loving with my daughter. We had so much fun. He never rushed us. We spent time feeding the hummingbirds- we learned so much. Tiny toucans even showed up right next to us. We did a fun hike through the rain forest and my daughter loved the cable car. So much so she decided to go ziplining after. These memories we will have forever of beautiful Ecuador. The food at the restaurant was fresh and lovely.
Hugo collected us from our hotel and took us on a wonderful tour to see some hummingbirds and the mindo cloud forest. He was very knowledgable about the city and Ecuador and was able to keep us entertained with lots of interesting facts and stories on the drive. We had a little time left over after the cloud forest so Hugo gave us some options of what we could do with the time. We chose to go to a butterfly farm and had an excellent time. Hugo was a brilliant guide - we felt like we were in safe, knowledgable hands.
Amazing tour with Ximena! She provided lots of great information and allowed us to customize the day based on what we wanted to do. She expertly guided us on the hike and throughout the day
This was much better than I expected and our guide Mariam, was awesome. It truly felt like a customer private tour. Don't miss the butterfly excursion and lunch there.
A great day out accompanied by the very knowledgeable and obliging Ximena. Walks, chocolate making ( great fun and informative) zip line bike butterflies, and of course humming birds
