This is more of a cooking demonstration than a cooking class. The women were very pleasant and the food was delicious. The driver was cranky and they split our small group of four up and put two of us in a separate cab. The ride there and back was very unpleasant, but the ladies cooking were nice and respectful. We did not get to do any cooking ourselves which was disappointing.

Here you will meet the best specialty vendors, the stand that has the freshest vegetables, yesteryear meat vendors, the lady who always has the best fruits, the medicinal herb stand, the mote vendor, the flower girl and an exotic fruit juice stand. The experience starts off by shopping for fresh ingredients and local products, some of which you will not be able to find anywhere else in the world. Cooking Class At the Cooking Class you will meet the Chef, my best friend's mom who will teach you all the local secrets and will tell you the best stories of yesteryear Quito. You will make everything from scratch, chopping, dicing, and cooking like a true local. Time to Eat Once finished in the kitchen, the chef sets a beautiful table and all the hard work pays off. It´s time to enjoy your meal in a Colonial house in the heart of Old Town Quito. Highly recommended experience!

Andres, Silvia and Magola are super friendly people who REALLY enjoy what they do! We and the other participants had fun and dined well! The best food we have had in Ecuador without a doubt! An educational and cultural experience in the Central Market with tastes of local produce unfamiliar to me to begin. Shopping for the meal came next. A well explained, demonstrated and shared experience preparing the food and drink followed. And then a great meal! AWESOME! The menu was tailored to our tastes, sensitivities and needs. The experience exceeded all my expectations. And, did I mention, these people are really amazing?
We went on a very interesting tour of the market then on to the kitchen where we learned about making soup and juices and then tried our hands at making Ecuador tamales which are different that Mexican tamales and SO GOOD! Everything we ate was delicious . Magdala and Sylvia were such excellent teachers and made it such fun.
This was amazing!! Everything about this tour from the market to the cooking was so fun! The food was AMAZING! I felt very loved and cared for. We have dietary restrictions (gluten and potato free) and they were able to update the menus to accommodate us.
Excellent. Immersion into Ecuadorian foods and cooking techniques. A good balance of tasting foods unique to Ecuador and cooking Ecuadorian foods you can make at home.
Excellent staff, fun, entertaining. I was the only one who showed up and they still ran the entire class for me.
Great tour of the local market and amazing class on cooking traditional Ecuadorian foods. Chefs Magdalena and Silvia were wonderful. We learned so much, got copies of the recipes, and left absolutely stuffed!
It was an excellent experience overall. We were picked up from the hotel by Andre. From there, we headed to a local market. At the market, Andre guided us through the various stalls. We sampled and learned about the local produce, and the market itself. After purchasing the produce required for the class, Andre drove us to the cooking location. At the school, we met Magola and Silvia. They were very pleasant and knowledgeable. We received an overview of the menu, and got started. It is a very hands-on experience. Magola would demonstrate how and why, then we would start. All of the recipes were approachable for anyone with basic kitchen knowledge. All of the items prepared were delicious. I highly recommend this excursion.
We tasted local fruit in the market, took supplies from the Mkt to the cooking school and learned how to prepare delicious Ecuador dishes. We loved our experience. Brilliant tour we highly recommend it.
This was an excellent and memorable experience. My husband and I really appreciated learning more about Ecuadorian foods and delicious unique Andean fruits. We will definitely be making some of the recipes we made during the cooking class. Highly recommend.
We had very knowledgeable guidance through the market and through the cooking process. Lovely people, spoke great English. Clean and organized. We had a great time!
This was such a good experience. The tour of the market was so interesting and we got to try several local fruits. The food in the class was amazing. They made sure to explain the steps so you can prepare everything again on your own. I would book early during your stay since you will learn about a lot of local foods you will later find in restaurants.
I was hoping this would be a more interactive cooking class. We didn’t really do any of the prep or cooking ourselves. We mostly watched. But did enjoy the market tour and the lunch we ate.
We had an amazing afternoon with Margola, Sylvia and Andres as they shared their love and knowledge of local foods, customs and culture. We enjoyed the visit to the central market and learning about and tasting native fruits. The cooking class was amazing. We learned so much about local dishes, ingredients and cooking techniques. The dishes we learned to make were delicious and they were able to accommodate for one of our group who is vegan. We would definitely recommend this experience!
10/10 experience. My friend and I really enjoyed visiting the market, trying some different fruits. Then the cooking portion was so much fun! They gave us recipes I will absolutely be recreating for my family when I return home. The food was amazing and we got to take home what we didn't finish. Absolutely recommend!
This was an incredible time. Learned about Ecuadorian foods, toured a market and had an amazing cooking experience
Very interesting tour of the market. Great experience in participating of making lunch, typical for Ecuador. Great people, great food.
Our group of four were taken to the food market in the old city, and our driver, let us through the fruits and vegetables and other areas where exotic fruits and vegetables we’ve never tried or sampled as we bought the ingredients for our cooking class. We were delivered to a courtyard inside one of the old buildings where a lovely group of women taught us how to serve a proper Ecuadorian meal. We participated by dicing vegetables and going into the kitchen and seeing how the things were cooked we took notes on recipe sheets so we could have a souvenir to try at home. It was a lot of fun, very educational, and then we got to sit in the dining room and eat the food that we had prepared. It was a memorable day. The tour lasted about four hours, and it was worth every penny, the women who taught us were gracious, talented, and warm it’s a wonderful experience that I will cherish.
The hostess and chef was amazing and really interesting. Would highly recommend. Ceviche was lovely too!
We enjoyed our cooking experience with Chef Margola and Assistant Sylvia. They showed us each fruit or vegetable in its raw form, explained every step in each recipe, and allowed us to get "hands on" with some of the preparation. Best of all, we had a delicious meal at the end.
Picked up at hotel (a bit late because of traffic but kept informed). Escorted round market with the very knowledgeable Andre and had delicious juice. Learnt so much about the local produce. Cooking class was lovely, not really possible to be very involved in the actual cooking because there were 4 of us preparing a joint meal, but still very informative. Very tasty nibbles, soup and something based on cornflour cooked on plantain like leaves. Fruit dessert. Highly recommended. All staff were superb
Precise, personal and detailed explanation of how to make some traditional dishes. Fascinating visit to a local market. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming Lunch at the end was delicious.
We scheduled this experience for our first day in Quito, and we are so glad we did! Andres and Silvia were very hospitable, and they even went out of their way to help us navigate the city after the class. 10/10 😊
It is well worth doing. The chef is great and the food is delicious. In particular, I liked the way the chef ensured that you could do the recioes back home
We really enjoyed an intimate cooking class that made us feel like we were in our chef’s home. We were timely picked up at our hotel and taken to the Centrale Mercado where our driver introduced us to an Ecuadorian smoothly and led us through the market to purchase fruits and vegetables to be used in our cooking class. We then went to a 200 year old hacienda style building where we met our chefs Margorita and Silvia. The 3 students each got our aprons and chef hats. We prepared a 3 course meal under Margorita’s supervision including a hot spiced fruit drink, a traditional potato soup with shrimp ceviche and plantains with a Babaco dessert. We were very comfortable with the whole experience. The recipes were provided so that we could enjoy these treats at home.
We had a wonderful morning which started off with being picked up at our hotel then a guided tour of the local market followed. We tasted several fruits and met some local vendors. Afterwards followed a fabulous cooking demonstration with our participation. The lovely thing was the food was a traditional Ecuadorian menu from start to finish. We then ate and drank everything we made!
We chose this cooking class as something to do on our final day in Ecuador, after returning from the Galapagos and before returning to the USA late that night. From start to finish it was a lovely, well orchestrated activity. Andres picked us up at our Airbnb on time, then took us for a tour of a city market full of produce, juices, meats, flowers, plants. He knew many of the vendors there so we were welcomed, and tried some different tropical fruits. We then met up with his wife Silvia who took us to the kitchen in historic Quito. Sylvia and Magdola showed us, step by step, how to prepare some delicious fruit items, potato soup, shrimp ceviche, and a local warm drink. Everything was explained well, and we participated in the preparation. Recipes were provided so we could try these dishes at home. Then Silvia and Magdola introduced us to the Metro system and escorted us back to our our lodging. It was a wonderful afternoon and I would highly recommend it to anyone who's interested in Ecuadorian food and culture.
We really enjoyed our Market Tour and cooking experience with Andres, Silvia and Magola. It was lovely to visit the market and to spend time with local Ecuadoreans. All the food was delicious and the cooking lesson brilliant fun. We enjoyed all the different dishes and healthy snacks and it was all brilliantly explained. We will definitely try to recreate it at home, although the quality of our prawns is definitely not as good as yours. After the class to avoid the carnival traffic we even got a ride on the Metro, which was a great experience. Great value for money, definitely recommend.
After being picked up at the hotel by Andres, we stopped at the Central Mkt, where we were introduced to a very good fruit drink/smoothie. We then were shown a smorgasbord of fruits, vegetables and flowers which opened our eyes to new delights. We proceeded to sample a few items, which of course are not available in the U.S., for our cooking class. Upon arriving at the class destination, we were introduced to Sylvia (sous chef) and Margola (chef). Both were very friendly, inviting and just open to any questions that we may have had. We started of mixing ingredients for our Canelazo, (cinnamon drink), in the preparation area, and which Sylvie then took back to the stove to boil. Next came the Ecuadorian Shrimp Ceviche AND the potato soup. Both were kind of prepped at the same time to coordinate cooking times. At the end everything was cooked to perfection. The simple preparation and ease of preparation of the foods helped us realize you don’t have to be a master chef to prepare simple yet quality meals. It was a truly delightful and delicious experience which we highly recommend to anyone visiting Quito
Excellent cooking class experience with chef Margola and sous chef Sylvia. Andres picked us up at our hotel and delivered us to the class. Enjoyed a great meal that we helped prepare and will definitely try her recipes. Highly recommend!!
Wonderful family experience; while learning to make simple, great Ecuadorian food. The market experience was wonderful and informative; the cooking class was intimate and very personable!!!
So much fun! My husband and I highly recommend this cooking class and market tour while in Quito. We learned so much and had so much fun. The food was fantastic and everyone was so kind. They went above and beyond and helped us navigate the metro to our next hotel after the class. Such a wonderful experience!
This was one of our favorite experiences of our Quito trip. The guides were very kind and treated us like family in their home. The menu we prepared was designed in a way that most or all of the ingredients were easily found at home, which I really appreciated.
Great tour! Took my niece and nephew, it was great to see the market and to learn how to make shrimp ceviche and potato soup
The chef Magola 17 was a wonderful woman who taught us about the food of Ecuador, as well as how to make the specific dishes that we made for our lunch and at the same time imparted lots of information about the culture of Quito
What a way to spend the morning in Quito! Andres picked us up at our hotel at 9:30 am. We talked about the history of Quito as we drove to the market. At the market, Andres knows everyone. We sat at a table and drank fresh local juice while trying different fruits. We walked around the market and visited different stalls, and he bought ingredients for our cooking class. Andres dropped us off at Magdalena’s house for the cooking class. He left us with recommendations for places to eat and things to do in Quito. He even offered to let me play pickle ball with him and his friends. For the cooking class, Magdalena and Andres modified the menu since my niece is allergic to seafood. Instead of ceviche, we made an appetizer with beans and potatoes, vegetarian tamales, a potato soup and alcoholic cocktail. Magdalena is an absolute delight! She is sweet and funny and we had the best time cooking with her. If you want to learn more about Ecuadorean cuisine and learn from two wonderful people, I highly recommend you book this cooking class with Andres and Magdalena.
We had a wonderful experience with Andre visiting the local market and learning about the various fruits, vegtables and flowers grown locally in Quito before we arrived at the Cooking School. On the menu was local Quito favorites - National Canelazo Drink with sugar cane, Potato Soup with corn, Shrimp Ceviche, Tomato Tree desert with syrup and fruit. We were hands on learning how to make each of the recipes with qualified teachers and then we all enjoyed our feast together. A truly great way to introduce yourself to the culture and cuisine of Equador.
Great experience! Very cool market and really good food. The hosts were great and helped us take the metro to our next destination. 10/10.
Lovely people! What a fun time! Learned about Ecuadorean food culture and learned how to make some great dishes.
Andres picked up my husband and I at our hotel and first stop was the central market. We loved the experience of going through the market, learning about and tasting new fruits that we have never had. And on the drive Andres was very knowledgeable and could answer lots of questions about life in Quito. Then we went to the cooking location, where his wife Sylvie assisted Margola. The recipes they gave us all were with ingredients that we could get at home. I’m a cook and my husband is the eater, but he even enjoyed the class and it was just the two of us. Your food is really helpful and it was delicious, nothing spicy, and it was just an awesome travel experience. At the end of the class, Sylvie was going to escort us by Taxi back to our hotel. We asked to take the metro instead for the experience and that was a great end to the day. We walked through old town and picked up some great souvenirs on the way to the metro.
This cooking class was wonderful. The chefs were super sweet and you could see the passion in their job. I would recommend to anyone looking for a fun experience in the city.
Great fun and a wonderful authentic ecuadorian experience. We started with a market shopping trip then a cooking class and meal, lovely food and amazing hosts.
Our cooking class was everything we had hoped for, and more! Andre took us through the market where we saw the many vendors of fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs. We sampled some delicious examples of Ecuadorian fruits. Exotic to us ... and delicious. We then moved to the cooking class, where Silvia and Chef Magola explained to us the cooking traditions of Ecuador and guided us through the preparation of a delicious lunch. Simple, fresh ingredients and simple ( and surprisingly quick) cooking methods combined to create a wonderful and very healthy meal! We left with delicious memories and recipes to try at home. Thank you, Andres, Silvia and Chef Magola for creating such an exceptional experience for us!
Fantastic cooking experience! We learned so much from the two wonderful women hosting the class. The food turned out amazing especially the shrimp ceviche 😋. Everything is very well organized and we had a great time from start to finish. Highly recommend this tour!
We were picked up at our hotel, which we really appreciated, and were taken to the central market, where our guide (who spoke excellent English) showed us around and bought us delicious smoothies made from local fruits, prior to taking us to the cooking class. The class was in a charming part of the historic center, tucked into a very nice setting with a lovely courtyard. The ladies who taught it were very friendly, gracious, delightful to be with, and excellent cooks. The food we made was delicious! It was a lovely way to spend a half of a day!
Excellent experience with Andres, his wife, Silvia and their friend. They are very friendly and warm people and make the whole experience very personal. The market tour with Andres was most interesting, learning about their fruits, vegetables, legumes, herbs, poultry etc. The cooking experience was with 2 ladies in a lovely old house in the old town. While the experience is not that hands on (the ladies did the cooking, while we chopped a few things and observe), it was still very nice and cosy. The ladies chatted like friends throughout and we did learn a lot!
The cooking class was great. Two very warm and friendly chefs teach the class. We are so much food we had to skip dinner. The recipes were easily followed and we will recreate them at home. We all felt like we got the "bums rush" during the market tour. We were picked up late at our hotel and the the tour leader Andres was rushing to another tour. If not for that It would be a five star review but we felt short changed on the market tour
This cooking class was phenomenal. My best friend and I learned alot. We also had alot of fun. The potato soup and ceviche was sooooo good. An awakening of the taste buds. One of the highlights was going to the market, where we learned about different fruits.
Had the best time with Andre and Sylvia and the team, from the market tour of the yummy local fruits, to the lovely cooking class which kindly catered to our dietary requirements as well as the whole team being really accomodating with our schedule and early flight! Would highly recommend!!
From start to finish, we had such a a fantastic time. The tour of the Central Market was fascinating and we got to sample some absolutely delicious Ecuadorian fruits and juices. And then the cooking class experience was just the best. We were welcomed with such warmth and we felt right at home. I would absolutely recommend this experience to anyone visiting Quito. My wife and I have done cooking classes in Thailand, South Africa, and now in Ecuador, and this cooking class was definitely our favorite!
