Your tour guide will pick you up at 9:00 a.m. from your hotel, due to the splendid view from the viewpoint of "Cruz Loma" (4.100 m.- 13,451 ft) on Pichincha volcano.
To go up there you will take a cable car ride that takes from 10 to 15 minutes per way, depending on the atmospheric conditions. You start from an altitude of 3.045 meters above sea level (9,990 ft), up until 4.100 meters at the top (13,451 ft). You will enjoy an unforgettable view of Quito, and if the weather helps, the amazing snow-capped volcanoes: Cotopaxi (5.898 m), Antisana (5.753 m) and Cayambe (5.790 m).
In the afternoon you will visit the colonial town of Quito, which is the first World Cultural Heritage Site (UNESCO 1978). Before we start the walk, you can have a little break for a drink, or a small lunch; if it is necessary your experienced tour guide can give you different valuable recommendations and options!
During your walk, you will pass through the Independence Square, scenery of many dramatic battles of revolution in the history of the Republic of Ecuador. You will have the opportunity to visit the Presidential Palace, the Cathedral, the Archbishop's Palace, the Church of the Secret Society of Jesus of Quito, summit of the Latin American Baroque style
the charming neighbourhood of "La Ronda", and the Church and Convent of San Francisco, built in 1540.
Then you'll have the opportunity to drive uphill way, to visit the top of "El Panecillo", where the winged Virgin Mary of Quito is located, and it is considered the tallest aluminium statue of the world! Then you will finish this fantastic and memorable excursion approximately at 3:00 p.m.

This was a fun tour for a small group. We saw amazing views at the top of the cable car. We enjoyed learning about the city. The chocolate tasting was great. Our tour guide, Ximena, was the best. She was knowledgeable and made sure that we were having fun!
Our guide Luis was fantastic. Fun, knowledgeable and respectful. He went above and beyond. Would do it again!
This tour was a great way to see the highlights of Quito in a half day. Guide Ximena is a Quito native and knew all the interesting places to go, and when to get there to avoid crowds. The tour started and ended at the front door of my hotel, so this was a no-hassle way to tour Quito.
We had the best day! Great guide with local knowledge which n made the tour interesting and informative
Fabulous tour! Got to see a lot of the city, learned a ton and got to try some yummy food. The tour guide even took unique photos of us that I will cherish
Diana was an excellent tour guide - very knowledgeable regarding history and culture of Ecuador. Highly recommend!
Great experience. Luis was extremely friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. He treated us wonderfully. He was flexible and understanding of our needs and wishes
We loved our guide Diana and our driver Marcelo was excellent. For our first full day in Quito, we booked this Ecuador’s Best Tour of the city. We live at sea level in Seattle and wanted to take it easy due to Quito’s high elevation. We were also concerned about safety in an unfamiliar city after a couple of days of exhausting travel. So we appreciated the guide and driver very much. We enjoyed every stop on our tour. Diana walked with us every step of the way, patiently answered all of our questions and helped us understand the culture of Ecuador. Later, after we got back from the Galapagos, we learned that some of the group members had gone exploring on their own and were robbed of expensive items in Old Quito, so I was especially appreciative of the excellent guidance of Diana and Marcelo. I never felt unsafe, and Quito has a better police presence than Seattle, including touristic police, but as a stranger in a new city, we can be at a disadvantage on our own, even though we use money belts and phone lanyards when traveling.
It was a great view, but the trail, after the cable car was quite challenging to make it to the top of the mountainside which is at over 9,000 feet
Prompt hotel pick up with itinerary including teleferico and El Panecillo providing value to what is otherwise a short City centre walking tour. Good explanations about the city and its development. Can be cool at the top of the cable car ride. Bring your own water - none was offered.
My mom and I spent a nice day around Quito with our guide, Luis. We began at the Teleferico since the skies were clear enough, then went down to Old Town. We walked around and saw la Plaza Grande, stepped into the cultural center and some cathedrals, and had empanadas for lunch. We ended the day by going up to the Panecillo. Luis was very knowledgeable and patient with us. Thank you for making our first day in Ecuador a good one!
Diana was a kind and friendly guide. We enjoyed almost all aspects of it!! I deducted a star for 2 reasons. 1: after the first church she stopped a local street vendor and encouraged us to buy. Hard pass on that…I don’t like any part of that and we declined. 2: the tour company didn’t provide any contact information to us. We waited until 1.5 hours before the scheduled tour and still did not receive anything so reached out asking for the name of the guide and the vehicle we were looking for…at 5 minutes until pick up he responded with the info. Yes it all worked out but so many companies provide intentional communication at least 12 hours out that it was notable that we heard absolutely nothing. Honestly we were worried about a no-show.
Diana was a grest guide & we had a good van & driver. Booked just the day before, they arrived promptly. We all decided not to do the gondola ride as there was low cloud & little visibility. We started at the Virgin of Quito., with good views, explored the old city with its beautiful churches & buildings. Diana taught us much of Quito's indigenous & Spanish & post independence history & picked a good restaurant for lunch We finished with fun at the Mitad del Mundo - museum of indigenous history on Latitude 0000
Our tour guide Ivan created a wonderful experience for our family on short notice. Our father, age 96, and my sister and I had an amazing time touring the city and learning about the history as well as current cultural events. Ivan shared facts within entertaining stories so we were engaged and informed. He took us for a chocolate tasting which was delicious. And he offered to go back fornthe car adding time to his day because my dad really couldn’t walk back. Ivan was attentive and caring. He truly made our day
We had a great tour with Luis. He took the time to find out our interests before we set off for the day. He’s super knowledgeable, a great storyteller and is a foodie. Besides the great walking tour of old Quito, he took us up to Panecillo Hill. We were supposed to go up the cable car but because of thunderstorms, he took us to one of the local markets instead. It was great to soak up the local atmosphere and enjoy a fabulous lunch of hornado (roasted pig) with potatoes and chicharron.
Luis was the best!!! He picked my son & I up from our hotel & then drove us all over Quito for an incredibly informative, exploratory city experience! When he found out my son loves chocolate - he asked if we’d like to add in chocolate tasting to our tour! Attentive & personable! I’d come back and repeat our day with Luis again! Highly recommend!
Great time in Quito. Our guide picked us up and we went up the cable car to look over the city. What a view! Our guide was very interesting and knowledgeable. The we took a walking tour of the “Old town”. Great history lesson and great sites. Thanks for a great day….
Carlos was personable and so knowledgeable about the history of everything we saw. Our day before the Galapagos was well spent getting an overview of Quito.
It is very high and maybe chilly up there. Be prepared if you have Problems with Altitude. Have a lovely coca tea, listen to Interessting history of the City from Fantastic Guide IBAN. The View is Stunning!
Xmena was great. She really gave us a personalized tour. We loved it and she was so sweet. Thank viator for hooking us up with Xmena.
Our guide was the best unfortunately cannot remember his name. He was very knowledgeable about Quito’s history and we saw beautiful views on the cable car ride. I would recommend him to everyone!
This was a full day 9-5 for us, including transport to and from. The cable car experience is a must. Lets you see the whole city and beyond to the volcanoes. Then a walking tour of the old city. We were told ahead of time that admissions to various places would be extra; so don’t be surprised. We went to a nice but inexpensive place for lunch. Our guide Freddy was friendly and knowledgeable. He gave us a variety of optional things to do while showing us the must-sees. This was a worthwhile way to spend a day in advance of our visit to the Galapagos. Please realize that there is a fair bit of walking up and down steep paths at 13000 and 9000 feet.
Great experience with a knowledgeable guide. He went out of his way to make sure our tour was good and informative.
Ximena gave us an excellent tour! She knew how best to avoid the crowds, and she changed the order to suit the weather, assuring us the best views from the top of the mountain. . She was very knowledgeable and clearly passionate about showing the best her country has to offer. Opt for the chocolate tasting…well worth it!
Wow! What a great tour. Our guide, Hugo, was excellent and so informative. Great pace and perfect balance and timing of all the must-see sites. Hugo spoke perfect English and had a wonderful sense of humor. He timed the cable car entrance perfectly so there was no line and a clear morning sky. Can’t recommend this tour enough. Ask for Hugo, if you can.
We booked the Cable Car and Quito Private City Tour (Ecuador Best Tours). This was such a great day to get us familiar with Quito. Our guide, Ximena was terrific! She was so much fun to be with and tailored our tour to meet our interests! We went up the hill to visit the statue of Mary and overlook the city. We explored the market in the old town. Lucky to be there on Sunday when the market was active. The churches were also having services that day and we were able to go into the back to observe and hear the music. We had a fabulous lunch, went to a chocolate tasting that we loved and walked around town with Ximena’s guidance and stories. We finally took the cable car up the mountain for a fantastic view and hiked up to the swings for unique photos. Ximena was caring and patient as we stopped for many breaks to catch our breath in this high altitude. I recommend this tour, where you can choose to do what interests you with the help of an experienced guide!
What a great way to see and experience Quito!! Diana was a great guide- so knowledgeable and so fun!! Definitely recommend this tour!!
Luis was a great guide! Right on time, spoke great English, and even conversed with me in Spanish, to help me practice! The ride on the cable car was awesome, and the short hike was no too hard at all! Beautiful views! It being my first day in Quito, Luis really helped me get a layout of the city! He even bumped into a previous tour guest who had lost her luggage at the airport, and he was assisting her get her luggage! Very nice! Highly recommend!
Amazing tour guide! I learned so much and had the best time! WORTH IT! The views were stunning, and the tour of the city was so informative.
Our tour guide Carlo Avila was a rock star! We learned so much about Quito’s history, culture, people in just one day! The tourist areas can be crowded and traffic difficult to negotiate, but he efficiently moved us from one tourist attraction to another attraction saving us time and stress. Carlos was engaged and enthusiastic, highlighting the best at each attraction and patiently answering our many questions.
Michael was an exceptional tour guide during our visit to Quito. His extensive knowledge of the city's history, culture, and hidden gems made the tour incredibly enriching. Michael's enthusiasm and passion for Quito were infectious, making each stop engaging and memorable. He went above and beyond to ensure our experience was enjoyable, providing insightful anecdotes and answering all our questions with patience and expertise. Michael's friendly and approachable demeanor made us feel welcome and comfortable throughout the tour. I highly recommend Michael for anyone looking to explore Quito with an informative and passionate guide.
Jimena was amazing. She arrived on time. Gave clear description of the day’s activities. She was very patient and gave us enough time to explore and take pictures. Would highly recommend.
We enjoyed the cable cars. Our guide was very nice. The cable car was well timed as we went early and had good weather and beat the crowds. We enjoyed the views. We then went to old town and new town.
Unfortunately the cable car was closed for maintenance, but it was still a fantastic tour of Quito. Diana our guide for the day was fantastic. She was very helpful and enthusiastic and showed us so many wonderful things in this beautiful city
While the cable car was the expected highlight the lunch stop at a local market made the trip memorable. So very good and fun to see the activity in the market. Hugo spent quite a bit of time learning about what we liked so he could pick the right spot. Well done.
Juan is a great , energetic, informative guide that gave us an unforgettable tour of the City. Very empathetic about ability to climb. His encouragement got us to the top.
Danny was an excellent guide. His English is excellent. Very knowledgeable on the history of Quito and surrounds. The visit up the cable car was stunning with the views of Quito and the surrounding mountains and volcanoes. The visit to the winged Mary was very inciteful. The walking tour of the old city was at a comfortable pace, seeing some wonderful churches and learning the history of the rebellions, which lead to the independance of Ecuador.
Ximena was a fantastic guide for our first day in Quito! She was friendly, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable. We started the day with the cable car and breathtaking views of Quito, then leisurely explored Quito Old Town including a delicious lunch followed by a chocolate tasting. We then visited the Virgin of Quito statue before ending our day climbing the towers of Basílica del Voto Nacional. She helped us to customize our private tour and gave excellent recommendations. We had a great time with Ximena and we can’t thank her enough for sharing her beautiful and vibrant city with us.
We were very concerned with what we had read was going on in Ecuador at the time with the gang violence, curfew, kidnappings from taxis and drug situation so this private tour worked out great. Andres was very knowledgeable and a great driver since the other drivers were aggressive. We went into historic Quito there was a large police presence so we felt safe. I expressed interest in chocolate so he took us to Yumbos for a tasting of very good chocolate. We were supposed to go on the cable car but it was too cloudy so we did the middle of the world tour which was much more interesting than I anticipated it would be. It was a great tour and day. The country is beautiful and the people very kind and helpful.
Tour was great! Highlight was the cable car to the top of the mountain. We saw all the highlights of Quito in a relaxed private tour. Guide was extremely knowledgeable about Quito and Ecuadorian history.
The cable car was down for maintenance, which was sad. But, the guide was amazing and knowledgeable. He was very friendly and customized the trip a little for use since the cable cars were down. Still a great tour and would definitely use them again.
Andreas was a wonderful guide! Very knowledgable about his city and country. My highlight was viewing the city from a swing at the top of the cable car!
Great private tour about the Capital City of Quito. Travel too the Old Town, government buildings, Tram to highest points, etc. Guide was great and we learned a great deal about Ecuador and its people
Brilliant day with Xmena, our guide. Started at the magnificent Basillica & climbed the tower by 9.30am 😁 What a building!! Beautiful views. Next stop the gondola to the top overlooking Quito - 4,000m up 😊 Slowly, slowly up to the viewpoint & the swing. Great experience 😁 To the old town & a delicious lunch at la Capilla (cerviche is a must!!), informative wander round the old town & up to the Virgin Mary statue. Great views 😊 Xmena was great, informed & knowledgeable & good company. We met a guide & left a friend 😁 A brilliant day.
We were unable to take cable car due to malfunction earlier in the week and instead went to a large local market. Think that was the highlight of our time in Quito.
Ximena was a great guide--very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. She knew a lot of details like where to park, where to eat, etc. which made the day much more efficient and enjoyable. I was nervous about going out and about in Quito because all I had heard about street crime and such. I would not have been comfortable doing all of these activities alone or as a couple, but I felt safe with a guide who knew what she was doing--she knew what streets to avoid, etc.
We’d already had a tour of Quito with Celebrity Cruises, but wanted the more personal touch. This is a fantastic tour - great guide who gave us so much information (they have to study 3/4 years to become a tour guide). We were so lucky with the weather, saw some amazing sights and lunch was in a beautiful restaurant. Highly recommend.
The cable car and looking over the city, old town architecture , the monument to Mary and the history told to us clearly by our guide!
The cable car ride and view of Quito was amazing! My partner is afraid of heights, but he felt perfectly comfortable in the safe enclosed gondola-style car. We also loved touring the magnificent Basillica and the view from the Condor tower. Micheal our guide was so knowledgeable about the history of Old Town Quito and the surrounding areas seen from Tereficio. Don't miss this opportunity if you're in Quito.
