This was a fabulous day of exploring the Andes and we were so lucky to see a few condors throughout the day. Lunch with hummingbirds was unexpected too. Beautiful scenery and a friendly guide who was very knowledgable about the birds we saw that day.

Itinerary
Antisana is a stratovolcano of the northern Andes of Ecuador. It is the fourth highest volcano of the country (5.753 m - 18,874 ft), and is located 60 kilometers southeast from Quito. It is a perfect volcanic cone, compound by two volcanic cones; the oldest one was eroded by an old glacier. Your tour guide will pick you up at 7:00 a.m. from your hotel in Quito, and then he will drive you straight through the eastern mountain range, until the village of Pintag, where you start to drive uphill way to the Ecological Reserve.
At 3.810 meters (12,500 ft), you have big opportunities to spot very interesting fauna, like eagles, carunculated caracaras, white tail deer, foxes, and of course the majestic Andean Condor, considered the largest flying bird of the world and one of the rarest species that probably had survived since the age of the mega beasts (10.000 years approx.)!
You will take a hike through the Andean slopes until the Mica Lake (4.050 m - 13,287 ft), product of the end of the last ice age, in order to have a better view of the volcano and to watch beautiful water birds like Andean lapwings, Andean gulls, Andean coots, Andean ducks, and black-faces ibis, that curiously live in Chile and only in the Antisana Volcano in Ecuador!
After your unbelievable experience in the best Condor's territory of Ecuador, you will drive again back downhill way to the Isco canyon, where the nests and cliffs where condors sleep are! Enjoying more views of these spectacular birds, you will have a traditional and tasty lunch at a local restaurant, enjoying the company of different species of hummingbirds.
You will be back to your hotel approximately at 4:00 p.m. End of this spectacular day at the Ecuadorian Andes!

My wife and I did this tour to explore a national park and find the condors. This activity was well worth it and allowed us to explore another unqiue environment on your trip to Quito. If you are a bird watcher you will be able to find some truly great lifers.
Very scenic trip to antisana where you can see condors and lots of other birds. Antisana national park is stunning as well. Thanks to Andres for a great tour. Definitely recommend
This was an very well organized and fantastic experience. The view of the cliffs with the Andean Condors was the highlight, but further up is also a must!
Spectacular - Antisana is amazing and breathtaking. We had a wonderful and very private experience in the park. Our guide ensured we saw incredible wildlife and explained to us the different types of birds and details about the condors. Our lunch experience was fantastic as well. My family loved it - would highly recommend.
Amazing day trip to a less travelled area in Ecudaor! Luis was an excellent guide, punctual, very knowledgeable about local history, flora and fauna, and a really nice guy. We were fortunate to have good weather, and we saw 25-30 condors from as close as 50 yards feeding on a carcass close to the Laguna! The views of Antisana were spectacular. We pretty much saw all of the expected other bird species and deers and had a great lunch at Tambo Condor. This is an amazing place to watch the Condors coming back in the afternoon to Isco canyon. They have a spotting scope there where you can watch. Also a lot of hummingbirds around that area. Couldn’t have been better. 100% recommend.
What an amazing day trip. Luis was an excellent guide- punctual, very knowledgeable, and a nice guy. We were fortunate to have good weather, and we saw 12-14 condors from as close as 40 yards! Saw pretty much all of the expected other bird species, and had a great lunch at Tambo Condor. Couldn’t have been better.
Booking proccess was simple despite our last minute christmas booking 😅 Our guide Andreas was very knowedable, enthusiastic, and spoke excellent english. We enjoyed that Antisana was off the beaten path and had spectacular views without being overrun by tourists. Highly reccomend.
My second day with the fabulous Myriam, who is a wonderful guide, has amazing English and really knows her stuff. Today the target was condors. Given there are only 130 left in Ecuador, I knew there was a chance i wouldn’t see one, but we saw 10!!! Also several other amazing birds. Another excellent day and Myriam was also aware of the altitude and that I had some issues in Quito, so she kept a close eye on me, asking about symptoms. I felt very safe in her hands. Well worth a visit to this amazingly beautiful place.
absolutely incredible tour. Our guide was Luis. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. It was a nice hike up the hill. We saw four condors and a lot of other animals and birds. Lunch was absolutely amazing. We enjoyed every moment. Thank you very much.
What an incredible day. Luis picked me up at my hotel and off we went up to the nearly empty national park where it felt like we were the only two people in the area. Along the way we were fortunate to spot not one but 10 (!!) condors soaring and playing together. Given that there are approximately 100 birds total in existence, we saw a remarkable 10% of them. It was breathtaking to watch them - especially when they swooped down close to us. We continued up to the park with stops along the way to spot seedeaters, flowerpiercers, caracaras, black-faced ibises, tyrants, variable hawks, and an abundance of deer. Once in the park, we hiked up to about 13000ft and the mountain came out of the clouds for most of our time there providing incredible views. On the way back, we stopped for a lovely typical Ecuadorean lunch at a small local restaurant, where the hummingbirds were out in full force. Luis was an excellent guide with deep knowledge of the area and its inhabitants - and a great sense of humor - and I felt very lucky to have him as my teacher. It could not have been a better day and I highly recommend this excursion.
The views. Most amazing scenery. Nature is Nature, we missed out on the condors unfortunately. Never mind. We went for a meal and the restaurant was brilliant. Had some lovely gifts there to buy.
We had an amazing day trip to Antisana with Josue. He was very knowledge and spoke very good English. We were extremely lucky and saw condors. They flew over us many times and were close to us. We did a short hike to a view point of Antisana. We saw very few people the whole day. Thanks Josue!
This tour was awesome!!! It is about a two hour drive from Quito but worth it. Our guide Miriam (sorry if I botched the spelling) was right on time for an easy pickup from our hotel lobby. Our driver met us with a private car and Miriam provided some great information about Ecuador and Quito that made the drive pass quickly. Our first stop was a visit to the Condor outlook where we spent some time viewing them flying above the mountains. Along the way to Antisana National Park Miriam pointed out lots of wildlife and made sure to stop so we could take photos. After a hike and some time to take in the scenery, we headed to Tambo Condor where we had some fabulous food while watching from an overlook to spot more condors and hummingbirds flying around. Can’t recommend this tour enough.
We had a great time bird watching and hiking on this trip! Great views of the lagoon and the Antisana volcano, Would highly recommend!
We really enjoyed the day. We saw 1 condor, many hummingbirds, white tail deer, and caracaras. The guide, Andres, was knowledgeable and very personable. Antisana park is very nice.
Saw many condors, as well as many other bird. Luis was fantastic, knowledgeable about local history, flora and fauna.. Lots of birds, amazing views. Fantastic lunch coupled with 6 species of hummingbirds. We even got to see the volcano through a gap in the clouds. 100% recommend.
We had a lovely day with Luis! He knows absolutely everything there is to know about the flora and fauna of the surroundings. As two students travelling on a budget, it was worth every penny! Would 100% recommend if you are a nature fan and especially if you also love birdwatching.
This trip was all that was promised including all four seasons of weather in just a few short hours. Luis possessed many knowledges and answered all our questions about birds, flora, the terrain, the history, and the country. He had a keen eye and could find all kinds of birds hopping among the tall grasses. He also tailored the experience to our prioirities. We were still adjusting to the altitude yet wanted to take the longer moderate hike up the mountain. Luis adjusted the pace of the hike to our needs. We saw beautiful volcanoes, lagoons, and many birds such as rare hummingbirds and condors. Antisana wreathed in ever changing clouds was amazing! The delicious lunch was a bonus.
Great day in the Andes with our guide, William. Saw Condors, Bears, Eagles, and lots of amazing wildlife, as well beautiful scenery. I would highly recommend this trip!
Daniel was our tour guide for the day. We saw many condors at multiple locations. He knew where to stop to get the best opportunities to see them as well as other birds. We were able to see black face ibis, caracara, Andean gulls and coots. The scenery is really nice with a great view of the snow capped Antisana volcano and a hike at Mica Lake. The trip included a wonderful lunch at a nice bird watching lodge overlooking the cliffs where condors and Andean bears are frequently seen.
About a year ago I decided to visit the Antisana Reserve with Ecuador Best Tours, and I had a wonderful day with my guide, spotting so many creatures, including the Andean Condors. I decided to go there for a second time due to my previous experience was so good, and I was not disapointed at all! We did a different walk and we were surprised by 12 condores flying even closer to us than the first time. Magnificent and well-planned. I loved my lunch supplyied by the agency as well...! Thank you for everything!
This was a great trip. Leaving at 7 from Quito, makes for a good day and not coming back to late. We stopped at a condor lookout we're we had the pleasure of seeing up to 10 condors dancing in the wind, just majestic! The walk at Antisana Park was rough because of weather conditions, no good views. But of course this is something the guide or agency cannot control. It was such a good day and Hugo is a great guide with a lot of knowledge.
What a great trip. Our guide, Effy, really knows his stuff; from local information to the flora and fauna. Don't know how typical our trip was but we saw plenty of wildlife including about a dozen condors including 2 or 3 perched on the cliff. Never would have seen these if Effy hadn't brought a spotting scope and tripod. Definitely the highlight of the day.
Amazing tour. Luís is an excellent tour guide; knowledgeable and passionate about his job. I highly recommend this tour with Ecuador best tours. You won't be disappointed.
Thoroughly enjoyed our day with Luís from EBT. Started early...inn order to see condors taking flight in the morning sun. We were fortunate to see no less than 14 condors in flight. Afterward, we drove toward Antisana volcano and enjoyed the spectacular scenery of the region. Our 7km hike afforded us the opportunity to see much more wildlife and stunning views of the Andes volcanoes and mountain tops. If you like physical exercise, mixed with unique natural sites, this is the tour for you.
Hugo is an expert driver and an excellent tour guide. Our tour began as soon as we left the hotel. We didn't see any condors this time, but plenty of other birds and even some deer. The drive itself is an interesting look at Quito and the surrounding countryside. The hike at Antisana has several options, but hiking at 13,000 feet can be challenging. We also enjoyed clear weather -- a rainy or foggy day wouldn't have ben as enjoyable.
Great experience with Wilson! This tour was personalized (we are birders, so focused on birds) and timing was flexible. Non-birders would have a blast as well. Wilson was very personable and shared Ecuadorian culture, customs, and history. And yes, we saw condors! About 5 beginning as soon as we got to the right habitat, along with White-tailed Deer, Andean Teal, Andean Lapwing, Silvery Grebe, Andean Coot, and more!
I took this day tour from Quito with all my family, and sicerely I cannot walk for so long at high altitude places, but this was not a problem, because we could enjoy all the possible amazing landscapes and wildlife while we were driving with our guide! It was very surprising how easy was spoting the Andean Condors and many other creatures on our way! Our guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. I would definitely go back there again with EBT!
This was a very well spent day to say the least. We were expecting a busload of tourists, but to our delight it turned out to be just my wife and I, and Luis in a car. He was an excellent guide in every way. We were blessed with great weather and we got perfect views of all the volcanos in the area, including Cotopaxi and Antisana. The view of them was great that we cancelled our trip to Cotopaxi the next day and went to Otavala instead. We saw a large number of different birds, including a couple of condors, as well as deer and other wildlife. We had a wonderful lunch in a colorful restaurant with a variety of humming birds flying about. It was a nearly perfect day. If we ever return to Quito, I'd do it again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our condor-watching day tour of the Antisana Volcano. Our guide Luis was very knowledgeable about all aspects of the paramo. My primary interest was the bird life, and Luis was quick to find the birds and identify them, and very good at helping me to find them too. It was a cloudy day with intermittent rain, so I wasn't sure if we would be able to see the condors. Within minutes of arriving at the viewpoint, Luis found one and showed me where to look. In all, we had about 6 sightings of at least 4 different individuals. We had lunch at Tambo Condor. The food was great, the owners cordial, and the hummingbird feeders had a lot of activity. It was an exciting day, and yet relaxing since we were picked up and dropped off at our hotel and Luis took care of everything. Some of the other noteworthy species: Andean teal, black flowerpiercer, carunculated caracara, black-faced ibis, tawny antpitta, Andean coot, Andean gull, sparkling violetear, giant hummingbird, and the black-tailed trainbearer.
Luis our guide was so accommodating, having had my passport stolen Luis helped by taking me to the UK embassy first to get things sorted, then we sped to Antisana looking for Condors soon a close fly by then 5 feeding on a carcass, plus Luis found Andean Hillstar, Black-faced Ibis, 2 species of Cinclodes, plus Andean Gull, Andean Coot, Silvery Grebe, Carunculated Caracara, lus many more. Then took me back to the embassy and waited till I had my emergency document in hand. I cannot thank him enough. A brilliant guide and service and cannot recommend him enough
Our family of four spent a wonderful day with Daniel and Patricio, who picked us up from our hotel in Quito and headed toward the ecological reserve at the Antisana volcano. We first stopped at a wonderful bakery in a small town just outside Quito, then headed up into the mountains. A word for the wary: the drive is typically twisty, but unusually bumpy by American standards. We then stopped at an overlook where one can see Condors nesting, but alas we did not see any. Ten minutes farther up the road, however, just as Antisana's peak cleared the clouds, we found 8 condors riding the currents above the road. Mind you, that is more than 10 percent of the entire population of condors in Ecuador! We walked up a small hill to get a better view. You know it's a great day when the guides are clicking as many pics as the tourists! Farther down the road we found 16 condors huddled over a carcass of some sort. We could not get too close because the field was fenced in, but Daniel had excellent binoculars. We then visited La Mica, a lake at the base of the volcano, but because the weather had turned cold, windy, and wet, we did not stay long. Patricio then unloaded the bikes for us to bike back down the mountain to our lunch destination. My 13-year-old and I did not last too long on the bikes because one stretch winds down a fairly steep hill with no guardrails, and we quite honestly got a bit scared. My older daughter and husband loved the ride. After a traditional lunch of chicken and potato soup, Daniel and Patricio graciously provided shopping and restaurant advice for our last day in Quito. If you choose this tour, wear warm clothes and bring a rain jacket as an outer layer just in case. Biking or a thin pair of gloves were also key, as the road you bike down is a bit bumpy.
Luis of Suviatours treated us to a fantastic day visiting one of the most beautiful places on Earth, the Antisana of Ecuador. Since I am an ardent birder, Luis focused the tour on my wish to see new birds, and he did so wonderfully. He also took us a to a small nearby restaurant where we had a great lunch. The Antisana is breathtaking, though if you visit, be prepared for a cold day! Well worth your time, and Suviatours is a great way to go!
We went to the Antisana reserve to see condors and we did it! Majestic birds flying over our heads! Impossible to forget. The very good and knowledgeable guide of the area. Thanks for everything!
