Your Wanaka day trip begins with a peaceful stop at Lake Hayes — a serene lake just outside Queenstown, often known for its perfect reflections on still mornings. Framed by tussock-covered hills and distant peaks, it’s a favourite among photographers and a calming way to ease into the day. Whether you’d like to pause for a few scenic shots or enjoy a short lakeside stroll, this quiet gem sets a relaxed tone before the journey continues toward Arrowtown and beyond.
OPTIONAL: Next, step into the heart of Arrowtown — a beautifully preserved gold rush village with cobblestone paths, heritage cottages, and a rich sense of history. The town centre invites you to wander at your own pace, explore boutique shops, try local treats, or simply enjoy the atmosphere of this charming riverside settlement. Whether you’re interested in history, shopping, or photography, Arrowtown offers a timeless character that adds depth and colour to your journey. (OPTIONAL VISIT TO ARROWTOWNO MUSEUM)
OPTIONAL: A short walk from the town centre brings you to the Arrowtown Chinese Early Settlement — a quiet, historic site that tells the story of the Chinese miners who lived and worked here during the gold rush. Wander among the preserved huts and learn about their hard life and enduring legacy in the region. It’s a reflective and fascinating stop that adds cultural depth to your trip, with plenty of opportunities for thoughtful exploration and photography.
Stop by the iconic Cardrona Hotel — a historic landmark known for its rustic charm and friendly atmosphere. Perfect for a quick coffee or a light meal, this classic pub offers a cozy spot to relax and refuel. Don’t miss the chance to snap photos of the hotel’s timeless façade, set against stunning mountain backdrops. Whether you’re grabbing a break or simply soaking in the atmosphere, Cardrona adds character and local flavour to your day. (Optional - coffee or light meal)
A quirky and unforgettable stop, the Cardrona Bra Fence is a unique local landmark that started as a spontaneous art display and has become a beloved roadside attraction. Located just a short drive from Cardrona Hotel, this colourful fence tells stories of community spirit and lighthearted fun. It’s a great spot to stretch your legs, take some playful photos, and enjoy a little offbeat charm along your journey.
As you leave Arrowtown, ascend the Crown Range — New Zealand’s highest main road — winding through spectacular alpine landscapes. The Crown Range Lookout offers sweeping panoramic views of rugged valleys, golden tussock-covered hills, and shimmering lakes below. This dramatic vantage point is perfect for taking in the vastness of the region and snapping unforgettable photos. Whether you want to pause for a short break or simply admire the scenery from the vehicle, this stunning mountain route is a highlight of your journey. (In case of Road Closure, detour towards Cromwell - subject to weather and road condition & can be more prone in Winter due to snow)
Arrive in Wanaka — a vibrant lakeside town known for its laid-back vibe and stunning natural surroundings. Wander through the town centre’s boutique shops, cozy cafés, and art galleries, all framed by views of Lake Wanaka and the surrounding mountains. Whether you want to explore local culture, enjoy a relaxed lunch, or simply take in the fresh air, Wanaka offers a perfect blend of activity and relaxation tailored to your pace. (Cafe / Restaurant stops available)
No trip to Wanaka is complete without visiting the famous Wanaka Tree — a lone willow gracefully standing in the crystal-clear waters of Lake Wanaka. This iconic natural landmark is one of New Zealand’s most photographed trees and a must-see for any visitor. Whether you stop for a quick photo or a peaceful moment by the lake, the Wanaka Tree offers a perfect snapshot of the region’s serene beauty.
As you approach Cromwell, catch sight of Mount Pisa rising proudly on the horizon — a distinctive peak known for its rugged slopes and panoramic views. This mountain frames the picturesque Central Otago landscape and offers a striking backdrop to the vineyards and orchards below. While we pass nearby on your journey, its presence adds a sense of grandeur and natural beauty to the drive through this historic region.
Explore the Cromwell Heritage Precinct — a beautifully restored area that showcases the town’s gold mining and pioneering past. Wander through quaint shops, cafés, and galleries set among historic buildings, blending old-world charm with vibrant local culture. Whether you want to browse artisan crafts, enjoy a coffee break, or simply soak up the atmosphere, this precinct offers a lively and welcoming stop that connects you to the region’s rich history.
Pause at Cromwell’s bustling fruit stalls and town centre — a lively spot famous for fresh, seasonal Central Otago produce. From juicy cherries to crisp apples, these stalls offer a taste of the region’s rich orchard heritage. The town centre also invites you to explore local shops and cafés, making it a great place to relax, sample local flavours, and experience everyday life in this historic fruit-growing hub.
Experience the dramatic beauty of Kawarau Gorge — a stunning scenic drive following the winding Kawarau River through steep, rugged cliffs and vibrant native vegetation. This iconic route offers spectacular river views, rushing rapids, and plenty of photo opportunities along the way. Whether you choose to pause for a moment of reflection or simply enjoy the ever-changing landscape from the comfort of your seat, Kawarau Gorge is a memorable highlight of your journey.
Discover the thrill of Kawarau Bungee — the world’s first commercial bungee jumping site and a true New Zealand icon. Whether you’re here to watch daring jumpers leap off the historic bridge or feeling brave enough to take the plunge yourself, this spot offers unforgettable adrenaline-fueled views of the gorge below. Even if you’re just stopping for photos and to soak in the atmosphere, the energy and history of this place make it a must-see on your journey.
OPTIONAL: Stop at Gibbston Valley Winery — one of Central Otago’s pioneering vineyards known for its award-winning Pinot Noir and stunning vineyard landscapes. Enjoy a guided tasting or simply soak in the serene surroundings framed by rolling hills and mountains. Whether you’re a wine enthusiast or just looking for a peaceful break, Gibbston Valley offers a perfect blend of flavour, history, and scenic beauty on your journey.

A great way to see different parts of the region with a small private group. That said, it’s kind of what you make it — our driver was lovely but I wouldn’t describe this as a tour. You get driven to all these amazing spots and get solo time to explore. Highlights were of course Wanaka (the tree!) and the winery ayrburn that our guide took us to.
A great private tour, we're lucky to have Jay as our guide, he's friendly, flexible, accommodating and knowledgeable, from Crown Range to Cardrona, then Lake Wanaka, Mt Aspiring and Glendhu Bay, it was such a wonderful trip, a big THANK YOU to Jay, keep up the good work!
This private tour with TravelnGo was absolutely awesome! Big Thank You to Jay, he took us to Crown Range, Cardrona, Wanaka & Mt. Aspiring National Park! The journey was amazing with breathtaking views everywhere! The photos, videos & memories are Epic & Fun! Jay is very professional, knowledgeable, friendly, flexible & excellent driver/commentator/photographer…etc! Definitely recommend this incredible tour!
After discovering public transportation is not a thing in NZ, I booked this trip. Vibhas was lovely. He managed to explain everything that was important to know, was kind enough to adapt the schedule to my personality & my pace and made sure all the boxes were ticked. A great success.
A big thank you to Jay for showing us around Queenstown. Jay was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience enjoyable from start to finish. He shared great local insights, took us to some amazing spots, and made sure everyone was comfortable throughout the tour. His passion for the area really showed and made our visit even more memorable. I would highly recommend Jay to anyone looking to explore Queenstown. Thanks again, Jay, for a fantastic day! 😊
We had an amazing day touring Arrowtown and Wanaka with Jay. From the moment he picked us up, everything was seamless. He arrived right on time, and his vehicle was spotless, comfortable, and well-maintained. Jay is incredibly knowledgeable about the region and shared fascinating local history, stories, and insights throughout the trip. What made the experience especially memorable was that he took us beyond the typical tourist stops and introduced us to hidden gems that only locals seem to know about. These special spots gave us a much more authentic experience of the area. Arrowtown was charming and full of character, while Wanaka offered breathtaking scenery and beautiful photo opportunities. Jay was also very kind, patient, and attentive to our interests. He went out of his way to make sure we had a great experience and even helped us capture some fantastic photos along the way. If you’re looking for a personalized tour with a friendly and knowledgeable local guide who knows both the highlights and the lesser-known treasures of the region, we highly recommend Jay. This was one of the highlights of our New Zealand trip.
The best thing about this tour is it is customizable. I am so glad I found this private tour. We are a family of 3 and it is so worth it. If you are a group of 3 or 4, I would recommend to take this rather than joining a group tour, unless of course if you love mingling with strangers. Jay, our driver and tour guide is very personable and knowledgable. Knows where to stop for a perfect view.
The tour was fantastic! Jay made us feel like family immediately. He has a wealth of knowledge about the history and sights. His recommendations during the trip were excellent. We are taking another tour to Glenorchy with him!
We had a fantastic full-day private tour with Jay through Arrowtown, Wānaka, Cardrona, Cromwell, and the Crown Range. He crafted a wonderful itinerary that included beautiful highlights and hidden gems we never would have found on our own! Jay was incredibly knowledgeable and shared so many interesting insights and tidbits of information throughout the day, which added to the experience. The day was smooth and well-paced, and he was thoughtful, flexible, and attentive the entire time. Jay clearly tailors the experience to your interests, and we would highly recommend him and this tour.
Starting from the pick up was a breeze!! Jay makes us feel excited before we begin our journey. Very knowledgeable in his tour and he has such patience while waiting for us. In every stop over, he will explain to us the heritage and historical background of the place. Will definitely highly recommend his tours to my friends!!
Jay was great! Punctual and willing to go the extra mile to make sure we covered everything on our list and suggest additional stops along the way. What a great day seeing all the beauty that New Zealand has to offer. His historical knowledge truly insightful . Highly recommend!
My Mom and I had an amazing day with Jay driving to/from the Wanaka tree. Fully flexible schedule with general itinerary but if we wanted less time looking at buildings and more time taking photos that was completely our call. Vehicle: Newer model MG which was great for the two of us in the back seat. But the real advantage is having someone who knows the area and the roads. So we could focus on having fun /sightseeing while Jay drove and filled in details about what we were seeing, the history, etc.
Everything was amazing Jay was super nice and gave us the best tour ever. We got to visit a lot of things in one day which was really nice if you don’t have many days to travel around. Highly recommended
Joe was AMAZING and so patient and knowledgeable, he is an EXCELLENT tour guide and GREAT photographer 💕 If this is your first solo trip I would definitely recommend they make sure you feel extremely comfortable 😊

Jay was super accommodating, knowledgeable, personable and patient. He was a great communicator pre-trip and a great guide during the trip and searched for missing items post trip. He customized everything to our needs. Brilliant day in Wanaka and surrounding area.
If you are looking for an unforgettable day trip to Queenstown - Lake District and the Otago Region, look no further. Just trust Jay and TravelnGo, and you are all set! What an experience we had! The 7-hour trip from Lake Hayes to Cardrona to Wanaka to Luggate to Mount Pisa to Cromwell to Kawarau Gorge was made a day to remember by Jay's thorough knowledge of and narrative about every nook and cranny of the region, his efficiency, courtesy, friendship, and professionalism. Talk about being lucky to have Jay as our guide; it was a trip to remember! There is not enough space here to write all the good words about our experience on this memorable trip. I will not be exaggerating if I say that it was Jay who made all this possible for us today. Look for Jay and TravelnGo next time you are in this region for a truly memorable experience!
I had the most amazing day exploring Lake Hayes, Wanaka, Arrowtown, Cardona, Cromwell. Our guide Jay is the best guide ever. He made countless photo stops along the way, became our photographer of the day, highlighted all the key locations and also took us to the hidden gem aka the most beautiful waterfall to see and feel it up close. The trip was very smooth and did not feel rushed. He was very patient , helpful , knowledgeable and ever so cheerful. He provided lots of options to choose from what we wanted to do. The trip is fully customisable so you can choose where you want to spend most time. The trip was the best way to spend the final day in queenstown for us. Ever so grateful to Jay for making it such a beautiful and memorable day for us. Cherry on top was weather being on our side. I highly recommend this tour to explore queenstown and surrounding areas. You will have the most amazing day.
Jay helped us customize the day or our preference. Travelling with 2 children isn't easy, but they even didn't wanted to say bye, by the end of the trip. Amazing brunch at Cardrona, beautiful winery in Wanaka and go-karting nearby, all arranged by Jay with his hospitality and kindness to make thie special day our very own. Can't recommend enough, do not miss this when you're visiting Queenstown or nearby. Jay and Travelngo team will ensure you have a fabulous holiday. Thank you again!
A private tour with Vibhas is a lovely and stressless way to see stunning vistas and charming towns at your own pace. He also knows the area well and will make sure you don’t miss the highlights. In addition, he is an expert driver on the winding mountain roads. Highly recommended.
Our trip couldn't be better, many thanks to TravelnGo. With their AWD SUV, we were able to go into the depth of pure nature near Mt.Aspiring with countless of waterfalls after lovely Wanaka tree and town centre. Amazing snack at Cardrona Hotel, it was a dream like trip! Thanks again!
We had the absolute best experience with Jay as our private tour guide in Queenstown and the surrounding areas. His service was truly above and beyond, far more than we ever expected. His recommendations exceeded our expectations, and his knowledge of the region was phenomenal. We were travelling with a wheelchair user, and Jay went out of his way to ensure everything was accessible. He was incredibly patient and hands-on whenever we needed assistance, which made the whole experience stress-free and enjoyable. We highly recommend the Wanaka day tour, it was a highlight of our trip! The vehicle was comfortable, warm, and spotless, and Jay made sure every moment was special. Even taking us to see snow in late October, which was just incredible. Jay’s friendly nature, great sense of humour, and even his choice of music made the day that much better. We can’t recommend him highly enough, an unforgettable experience from start to finish!
We left for Arrowtown first thing in the morning, a town soaked in deep and rich history. We paid a visit to the old Chinese village, took our time reading the stories of that generation and had a glimpse of how their lives were through the remains of what once they called home. It was stunning and thought-evocative. With some light drizzles and rare sights of people, the whole valley was dipped into the moist morning mist, through which the echoes of history resounded in our hearts and passed down our spines. Then we bought some meaningful souvenirs from a gift shop hosted by a nice&warm lady, very memorable, practical and economic ones before the people were crowding up and we took the retreat to Lake Wanaka. On our way to Wanaka, we ventured through Cardrona Highway, the highest highway in the entire NZ. It was still rainy, so we drove into an ocean, made of clouds descending from the sky. It was like a fairyland, the waves of cold winds clapping our faces blurred the boundary between what's real and what's dream. After paying a visit to Cardrona Hotel, enjoyed the handmade coffee there, we left for Lake Wanaka. By the time we reached there, it wasn't too crowded, maybe partially due to the rain, but also bc of the rain, the lake was unfortunately grey. Fortunately, we enjoyed our lunch at Ramen Ramen, an impressive Japanese ramen restaurant. We took our time enjoying the lunch, then a light stroll along the lake track, admiring Mt Aspiring from afar in its majestic slumber. We headed back after a few hours of stay, passed through Cardrona Highway again. Only this time the sky had completely cleared up, and our visions got to pierce through the entire valley, all the way through to the mountain ranges and the Queenstown Airport at the right top corner of the faraway horizon. All the slopes were wet, covered in dense brown shrubs, looking down on the valleys and its pinkish sunset. The uniformity of that moment formed what's characteristic of New Zealand——Its unique simplicity. Simple, Ineffable, unforgettable.
We had a great day yesterday with the guide Jay around Queenstown, Arrowtown and Wanaka. A very nice and kind guide with a great knowledge. Thank you!
Superb trip and superb Guide Vibhas..So cool , he even customised this trip to our needs and even showed the extra spots not mentioned in the itinerary.. may your venture grow well guys .
Our Tour Guide, Jay. made everything wonderful. He was very professional and knowledgeable of all the GREAT sites to see. Most of all his kindness and patience is what made our experience one to be remembered. Give him a call and look forward to a WONDERFUL tour. You will not be disappointed. Thanks Jay for the WONDERFUL memories!!!🙂
Very complete the tour, our guide Erman was very friendly
Lucky to meet Jay on this charter, Green was originally approached from Little Red Books to charter a bus, but she ran out of gear and highly recommended Jay. The result was more than satisfactory than expected! Especially after the comparison with the charter bus guide we met the other day in Auckland, our family agreed that Jay was really super good! Communicate with me attentively before your trip begins to make sure you understand my preferences and recommend it based on my preferences. On the day of the charter trip, come to our hotel in advance and wait for us, and prepare the seat, charging treasure and so on, explaining to us in great detail the scenery and history along the way, feeling like a really wonderful history lesson, really, really great. At a few stops, Jay would volunteer to take photos of our family and really plan our trip exactly as we liked, taking us to see the various small animals our kids liked and taking care of the adults' preferences, taking us to places with great scenery and a sense of slowing down. At dinner, Jay was also very meticulous in helping to communicate with the waiter because of his child's dairy allergies, and even when he was walking to see the waterfall, he was constantly worried that our school bags were heavy, and it was so heartwarming to grab an endorsement bag for us. My son is a bit timid and doesn't have special trust in anyone but his family, especially people who are in contact for the first time. But in a short time Jay made my son giggle and was willing to hold Jay's hand. So Jay really is a very, very gentle and meticulous person. Oh, that's right. Jay also speaks some Chinese and can communicate simply in Chinese based on English communication. Anyway, I really recommend Jay as a driver. If we come back to Queenstown next time, I think I won't hesitate to contact Jay and Green again for a charter bus.
A very good trip, due to the physical reasons my parents are not suitable for registering group travel, we also don't want to rent a car tours (fear of unfamiliar route and tired driving), this trip covers the hot and private attractions around Queen Town, and reasonable price and strong mobility. I communicated with the tour guide Jay the day before the event, hoping to join me with the restaurants and attractions I have booked in the Wānaka area, who in his experience timely adjusted the itinerary and detailed the itinerary arrangements, and will provide multiple itinerary options for us to choose from. During the journey he gave a very detailed introduction to the various attractions and took many good photos and videos for us.
