Really enjoyed the experience and show. Wasn't too sure if Māori imagery and animations were iwi approved or endorsed, knowing mana whenua had created it, or cleared the content would have made me enjoy it more. Some context of the plight of flightless birds after human arrival and the option to donate to a predator free group would be appropriate.

It was interesting. The seat vibration went on a little long, but was ok. Would’ve loved to have seen more fish but the water was a little murky on the day we went.
Fabulous experience - the time travel was epic!!! We loved it!!! Wish it took us on a little longer travel - felt it was too short. Atmosphere was fabulous as you walk down into the observatory....set the scene for a time travel experience. Friendly staff and A MUST SEE to understand the history of Tahuna (Queenstown). Suggestions: 1) Provide small area for families (children) to be seated, while waiting to enter the observatory. There were "dont sit here" signs and "staff only seats" but nil options for guests. 2) Clean the outside of the observatory window for a better view of the lake life. 3) Have an option to provide coins for the coin operated binocular viewer for those that only carried money cards. Or make the binocular card accessible.
It was super informative since we learned about the history of Queenstown and on how it was built with its legends, and the scientific record of how the mountains came to be. It was an amazing experience.
Highly recommend. Was a fantastic experience. Very informative.
This is an interesting experience for the kids and adults. It’s educational and exciting for growing minds. The only downside is that the film show was too quick.
This was a lovely surprise filled fun outing and I was very impressed with the information given and in the way it was delivered!
Saw a brief description in a local tourist magazine and decided to pay a visit. Well what a delightful experience. A concise history of the area from Māori legends to the Age of Dinosaurs s
perfect for kids. Must do activities for a family with small kids as story is very engaging and entertaining with 3D effect
Very nice immersive experience with professional movie telling you the history of Queenstown. In the end you can also see the underwater view with fish, eels, and ducks diving to get food. Very good experience especially on a rainy day when we did this.
Time Tripper exceeded expectations! The storytelling was engaging, the visuals were impressive, and it was such a cool way to learn about Queenstown’s unique geological history. The team were professional and welcoming, and the whole experience was smooth, immersive, and really well put together. A fun, memorable activity that is great for families - especially the fish feeding at the end, awesome to see some of the giants that live in Lake Wakatipu! Highly recommend.
This was a event that I didn’t want to do but got overruled on, the event is under water, it shows both the Maroi legend on how the lake was formed and the scientific reasons in great detail.
We wouldn't even known that Time Tripper was even there until someone pointed it out. We were absolutely blown away by it. A beautiful video which was very professionally made followed by the cutest ducks diving in front of you.
This was one of the best places I found to visit in queenstown it was a cold wet day but it was so nice and warm inside, the story was beautiful and being able to watch the local water life thrive while you relax in comfort was the best If you have children or just want to escape this is the best place to do it I will definitely be back to do this again
Presentation will be given by an overhead video projector in a theatre-style room located below the level of the lake. Before the screens are lowered, viewers in the theatre are treated to a variety of fish, eels and even diving ducks swimming (or diving) in the lake, through a window at the front, The audience are again provided this view at the end of the presentation, when they become even more active with a staff member dropping food into the water from the wharf above. A spectacular introduction and conclusion to a theatre viewing during which attendees are treated to a highly informative presentation of how Lake Wanaka came to be formed both in accord with Māori mythology and geographically. Adding to the presentation is the addition of vibrations of the seating at appropriate times and a visual viewing of three surrounding screen, providing a sense of being physically present.
Time tripper and underwater theater was very entertaining it's at k jet wharf in Queenstown starts with a video presentation on lake wakatipu and then turns into a time traveling experience back to 90 million years .then returns and curtains open and long fin ells and trout are outside feeding Clear windows for photos . It's not advertising alot as I was only person in theater on day I when $20 is very reasonable price
The attraction is one room under the pier with windows onto the harbour. Starts with 12 minute video about the pre history of the lake, geological past and Maori legends. This was ok but could have done so much more. The curtains raised and the fish were fed. Large fish, eels and ducks diving - really cool. However, we would have really liked a fish identification chart so we could know what we were looking for. We were out again in 20 minutes. Not worth $20.
This could have been so much better if the fish were clearly visible following the excellent film . I’m not sure if time was shortened due to a delay in people getting seated but we had nowhere near 15 mins of viewing at the end . The water was extremely cloudy and we saw no eels , just large fish and a few diving ducks. It all felt a bit flat and rather disappointing
This is an excellent experience. An immersive small cinema setting with educational content about the lake and Queenstown . Geological and mythical history, Dinosaurs , the ice age to the modern day . The cinema then transformed into an under lake viewing arena where large fish and ducks dive in front of you . Our host was Emma who was really helpful and knowledgeable. Good family experience about 30 minutes ?
Time Tripper is located off the lakeside promenade. You descend two flights of stairs under Lake Wakatipu. They show a 15 minute movie about what Queenstown looked like in the past, going back 90 million years. You see prehistoric creatures, including a frightening mosasaur. Then the screen lifts up to reveal four windows through which you can see underwater. They feed the animals so you can see diving ducks (teals), trout, and long-finned eels.
We loved it. We learned about the history of Queenstown. My son thought it was so much fun to see the fish, eels and ducks diving below the water. Go to Book Me online as the tickets were cheaper. I wod say this is the cheapest tourist attraction in Queenstown which is great!
Great production value, fun and affordable activity in the heart of Queenstown. Well worth it to get a different perspective on the geographic and cultural development of the region.
Was really fun to view ducks, fish, and eels from underwater. Also really enjoyed learning the history and legend of Lake Whakatipu.
Simply the best. You enter a room that is under the water. As you sit there in comfortable seats you watch the fish, eels & ducks swim around. A screen comes down & you watch a short movie about the history of the lake & Queenstown. Virtual reality. A great experience. Cheap & a must do.
A friend recommended Time Tripper and we were pleasantly surprised ! The visit consisted of viewing the underwater fish and diving ducks followed by a high tech video taking you back in time 65 million years through to modern day times in Queenstown. This included scenic drone footage and earthquake fault lines. Even the seats rumbled. The young lady at the check-in was friendly and helpful. Trips in Queenstown can be expensive but this was value for money at $15. I don't think its publicised enough.
No thanks, Queenstown is a great place to visit. So much to see and do whatever you enjoy and everyone’s so friendly. Time Traveler was our only negative, such a shame that your team member was rude and unwelcoming. So sorry we interrupted your day.
It was a great way to get the history of Queenstown and would entertain kids. It's pretty short show. Staff super nice. Hard to find but shares a booth with boating activities so look hard for sign.
Excellent experience, right on the Queenstown quay. Terrific wrap-round film (complete with physical enhancement) before the reveal of the underwater observatory. The fish! And the cutest ever deep diving ducks! Amazing value for money.
I’m so pleased we did this, First there was a great audio- visual presentation showing the pre- historic and geological history of the Queenstown area. Shown on 3 screens and with some moderate vibrations it brought the history alive. Then we spent about 15 minutes viewing the fish, eels and diving ducks from below the water. Fascinating! We were surprised at the size of the eels and the salmon and the speed of the diving ducks. This short activity added a different perspective to our visit to Queenstown.
We got stuck behind a really slow car that we were unable to over take. We called to ask for a refund as we weren’t going to make it in time for the show but were advised no. Pretty disappointing considering we couldn’t change our show time
Very nice quick show which was informative and knowledgeable. Our family with 3 kids have learned many new things about Queenstown and NZL forming history. Lovely surprise watching fishes and ducks diving in the lake outside glass windows as well. Worth it to visit. Good value for money . Thank You
Very interesting and knowledgeable show about history of the earth, New Zealand and Queenstown. Also it’s so much fun 🤩 watching the fishes and ducks swimming in the lake outside of the glass window Thank You 🙏🏻
Kind of lame. The graphics weren’t the best. Could have spent more time on the area’s history. Last few minutes are advertisements. When they feed the fish the curtain isn’t up yet so you miss most of the fish. Children might enjoy. Affordable too for families.
This is more interesting than I expected. It's 30 minutes total, comprising a very interesting and well-done 15 minute video followed by 15 minutes to look through their underwater windows into the lake. We saw trout, eels, and several diving ducks. It sounds too short but 15 minutes is really all you need. The cost (as of Oct 2023) is NZ$15, which is US$9 - so it's not expensive.
We loved the Time Tripper journey back through time. The information was great and the three screens were amazing. We were disappointed however that the brochure said 'Experience 90 million years in just 30 minutes.' We were out in 20 minutes and that included the pre-talk and seeing the fish and eels being fed at the end. I realise the price is reflective of the experience bt we had expected the full 30 minutes of time tripping.
My friend and I took her 8 and 10 year old. We all really enjoyed it. It’s a fun, interesting experience with little surprises to keep everyone engaged. Non expensive and worth a visit. We didn’t book and had the session to ourselves. Staff are lovely. Located at the wharf, opposite Patagonia.
We loved this experience! It is relatively inexpensive for a short film about the prehistoric history of the area, and then it is really cool to be in a room underwater in Lake Wakitipu and watch through the window the fish, eels and ducks getting fed! It was fascinating to see how big the fish and eels are and watch the ducks diving down! If you are interested in this kind of thing I really recommend the experience. The staff were friendly too.
Loved the time trip movie. So wel done and an almost interactive experience. The feeding of the fish allows you to see them all up close and personal without getting cold or wet. My kind of experience. Loved it so much that I went twice!
I scored half price tickets to this experience. Very underwhelming. Short video that was quite boring followed by underwater viewing of eels, fish and duck diving. All up 15 minutes of time I can’t get back. Best off spending the money on a fabulous ice cream nearby which will be enjoyed alot more..!
Interesting film and experience about the history and cultural significance of Lake Wakatipu. Fans of dinosaurs and nature will love it. We saw plenty of eels, fish and ducks feeding.
Interesting experience. Short 30 min and great to do on a wet day. Not expensive, would recommend to do.
Nice experience. Watching the film was ok. Seeing fish and ducks afterwards through the glass was ok but not a wow experience if I’m honest. Glad we did it but nothing special. Staff very very friendly.
The Time Tripper show was super cool and nicely done - a 30 minute activity that can be enjoyed by the whole family. Enjoyed watching the sea life below the pier before and after the show. The ducks were super cute to watch!
Wow this was so much more than we expected! Highly recommended going to this. It definitely won’t disappoint. We are going again
The idea and concept ..is brilliant. A very short movie of new Zealand history. Voiced by Tem Morrison 🫢. Has 4 D effects.... Moving seats gust of cold when in ice age etc.. If there had been some more of the regions history gold miners etc and about NZ dinosaurs and wild life would have much better.. just felt half done ....the fish feeding was a bit sad too. A few pellets chucked in after the movie... Same large trout and a lone scaup duck . But definatly worth taking a overseas visitor to.
It was very interesting to know the history of New Zealand and to see the fish from under the water.
Thoroughly enjoyable experience. We sat at the front so had a great view of the show and the fish, eels and ducks when the screen came up. The rumbling/vibrating seats when in travel mode was a success with the grand daughters ( 5 and 3). The show was just long enough to keep them watching. I was impressed how deep the ducks dive and long they stay underwater. The price is affordable and the staff very pleasant
This was probably one of the best experiences I had in Queenstown. First off the staff are absolutely amazing! The 4 experience was so real and was so amazing to experience. Watching the fish and ducks was an added bonus! I highly highly recommend this, it make learning about history so much fun!
History of Queenstown of how it was formed and Maori culture. Also the seals and diving ducks watching underwater was great experience for kids
I loved this attraction! You walk down several stairs to get underneath Lake Wakatipu. You can watch the waterlife swim by. The 4D experience takes you back in time 90 million years. Great explanation and learnt heaps about the area.
