Itinerary
Your tour starts in the stunning city of Queenstown. As we drive out of the city your guide will not only set the scene for your adventurous day but also point out and guide you past some of the areas top highlights.
Departing Queenstown we then make our way through the stunning Kawarau Gorge passing stunning views, the Kawarau Suspension Bridge and the famous Roaring Meg Lookout. Time and light permitting we will stop for that first great shot of the tour.
Exiting the Kawarau Gorge we enter the fruit and wine growing region of Cromwell. Passing huge fields of vines, we cross Lake Dunstan and follow this beautiful lake towards Lindis Pass.
Climbing in altitude, Lindis Pass has amazing views down through the valleys. Being one of only three alpine roads through the otherwise impassable Southern Alps, we stop at the famous lookout at the top of the pass for an essential photo.
While driving through the endless plains of the Mackenzie district we will spot several of the famous Merino breed of sheep before stopping at the quaint township of Omarama. While in Omarama we have time for a break or even to try the best creamy chicken pie in NZ (in our opinion)!
Turning west we begin to enter the Aoraki National Park and Lake Pukaki begins to emerge in front of us. Lake Pukaki is one of the bluest lakes you will ever see and is stunningly framed by the backdrop of Aoraki/Mt Cook and the Southern Alps. We stop for some amazing photos and to just marvel at the sight that we are beholding.
You will be dropped off at Aoraki/Mt Cook Village upon arrival, where we’ll say our farewells.

Everything about this experience was outstanding. Our guide was truly fantastic—attentive, engaging, and professional—making the entire trip seamless and unforgettable. Highly recommended!
This is a good tour but the online itinerary is misleading. There is a Hooker Valley Trek included which is great but we didn't know this when starting off, so we had made plans to do this after the tour rather than during. Online itinerary needs to be amended to reflect what actually happens on the day
Nice trip with plenty of nice attractions to let us take photos. Our guide Andy is super-friendly and keeps sharing his knowledge about anything we raised on the trip.
Fantastic Mount cook experience
Our trip with small group of people to Mt Cook was really amazing, especially with our guide who was very knowledgable and he was entertaining us with stories about the places passing by us. The pickup was on time, so please be on time. The tour starts in the morning about 7-7.30am, taking you first to Lake Tekapo and will end in Mount Cook Village in the afternoon around 2-3pm, where they will drop you off at the Hermitage Hotel. In my case, I was dropped off at my accommodation at Mt Cook lodge, where I stayed for a night.
Very efficient pick up and drive to Mt Cook with a few rest/photo stops along the way. And a good 3hours at Mt Cook where we could explore the hikes we wanted, depending on the level of difficulty we could/preferred. Driver guide Addy was lovely too.
Joel was an excellent and informative guide for our trip to Mount Cook village. He was enthusiastic and ensured that everyone was comfortable. The scenery was spectacular. We especially enjoyed the stops at Lake Tekapu and Tasman glacier.
I highly recommend Cheeky Kiwi for transportation from Christchurch to Mt.Cook/Aoraki! Bobbie was our super friendly & fun driver/guide! She shared interesting facts/stories/music during the ride. Plenty of stops for food & toilet breaks and beautiful scenery stop at Lake Tekapo & first glimpse of Mt. Cook/Aoraki! Over hour stop at Aoraki/Mt. Cook for short hikes &/or picnic. Worth the $ and very enjoyable!
Everything went smoothly. The tour started on time and the vehicle is clean and comfortable. Love this tour
Very enjoyable trip to Mt Cook with Hanna at the wheel. She shared interesting facts along the way. The meat pie and coffee stop was well timed. The Landis Pass photo op was lovely. Although the Natl' Park Mts were covered in clouds our photo and walking stops were enjoyable.
I loved it. Great scenery and the guide Rob is really fun, got a lot of stories to tell and good music to share. I had a wonderful time
This trip was great even when travelling solo! Very easy to get chatting to other people and the day is organised so well you don’t have to worry about any of that. The staff were super friendly and answered any questions we had to ask and also gave us lots of fun facts and useful insight on the local area
I chose this tour because I wanted to enjoy the journey to Mt. Cook as well, and it turned out to be a great decision. Although it was an early start, thanks to that we were able to see the beautiful scenery along the way in the best conditions. Our driver and guide gave us fascinating explanations about history and nature, and even after we arrived, he kindly made suggestions tailored to each guest’s needs. We also had plenty of time to enjoy the café and souvenir shop we stopped at, and the views of the Lindis Pass and Lake Pukaki were absolutely stunning. I’m truly glad I joined this tour, and I would definitely love to join again.
Amazing trip, highly recommend this tour Kristian our driver and guide was extremely professional and informative. Great stops along the way.
Lynette was awesome! Lynette was so knowledgeable and gave us so much information. The tour was also very well organised and we had plenty of stops and time to go.
The tour was well-organised, and our guide Kamberly was friendly and knowledgeable, providing useful information about both Queenstown and Mt. Cook.
Kimberly was a fantastic guide and driver. We really enjoyed her commentary and flexibility. This is a great way to transit to Mt. Cook/Aoraki without the stress of driving ourselves.
Beautiful drive and perfect way to get to Mt cook without a car. Van was comfortable and Hannah ( great driver and guide) made lots of stops for views and food along the way. Stayed 2 nights in Mt cook and took a return trip to Christchurch. Great way to relieve driving stress
This was my third Queenstown to Mt Cook with Cheeky Kiwi. My guide Hannah still managed to keep me entertained with her commentary and gave me new info I had not heard before. The tour works as a combi, arriving in Mt Cook somewhere between 11 am and 11:20, departing at 14:30. Some passengers are dropped off for scheduled heli flights and some for the Hooker Valley hike. For those doing neither, Hannah had other suggestions, such as hanging out at The Hermitage Hotel, or doing other hikes. The driver can fit in other drop-offs if these fit within the logistics, which must include her statutory 30 min break. Since I was staying at Mt Cook, I could be dropped off at The Tasman Glacier car park with my plan to walk/hitch back to my accomodation. This worked a treat for me, it may not always be possible. My recommendation is to come prepared for a short hike, the one to Kea Point is easy 35 min each way and outstanding scenery of Mt Sefton and Mt Cook. The amble around the village and the Visitor's Centre is also worth doing.
Amazing trip! The tour guide was very professional, providing detailed and entertaining explanations throughout the journey. The schedule was well-planned, giving us plenty of time to enjoy the Hooker Valley Track at Mt. Cook. Thank you very much for helping us store our luggage and assisting with the transfer to another shuttle bus!
Great shuttle! TJ was extremely friendly and knowledgeable not only as drive for the whole group, but also as a guide in explaining the sorroundings and their history.
Thank you to let me hop in the bus in short notice. It was great to share time with others closely. I am sure to chose you instead of big bus tour is the right thing to do.
The shuttle trip between Queenstown and Mt Cook was the best shuttle trip zi have ever had! Hanna was very knowledgeable and extremely helpful organising a helicopter flight over and on the mountain for me. I cannot rate her highly enough and ably assisted by her copilot Michael
Had the luck to go just after a snow day. Beautiful scenery and great guide. Enjoy every part! I would do it again and again
Great scenic morning trip to Mt Cook includes stops on the way there. Convenient pick-up from our Queenstown hotel and drop-off at The Hermitage Hotel. This tour allowed us to spend over 26hrs at Mt Cook before heading off to Christchurch the next day with Cheeky Kiwi/Kia. Our Driver/Guide was a friendly, knowledgeable local and she was fantastic.
Words or photos can't capture how awesome this experience was. We drove through stunning landscapes, stopping at clay cliffs and Tasman hike (glaciers/lakes). Our guide, Cullan, was a Welsh gem—his upbeat energy and stories about the history of the areas made the trip made it come alive. There are a couple of options for different hikes, and depending on the weather, our driver always knew the best ones to recommend. He picked us up and dropped us off seamlessly, ensuring we had the best experience possible. Being part of a small group created a cozy atmosphere, and we had several chances to pause and appreciate the scenery. The glaciers in Tasman Valley were just a short, 15-minute walk to the lake, which felt just right, and the clay cliffs were only about 10 minutes away. This tour is perfect for anyone looking for adventure, and we just felt so lucky to have Cullan guiding us. His humorous and professionalism made the day so bloody fun. I can't recommend this tour enough; it’s truly a fantastic experience!
Our guide Callum was very professional and informative. Told us stories about the areas that we passed on the way. It made the trip very pleasant and travel time shorter.
Tour guide, Jonathan, was very knowledgeable and friendly. Very small group so he was able to tailor to our interests. Ask him about Shrek, the lost sheep! Lovely hikes too. We stayed in Mt. Cook at the lodge so one way tour was perfect for plans.
Got us there in time to hike the Hooker Valley trail. Good driver and very personable. Be aware that if you are staying at the Hermitage it is a 45-60 minute walk after the hike. Our driver told us it was 20 minutes.
Our guide, Tammy, was fantastic. She attended to everyone and spent time hiking with us. She had wonderful explanations, great stories, and terrific music. Although one of our participants was a bit delayed from the hike, Tammy managed to get us to Mt. Cook on time. We had a wonderful time on this trip.
Shona our tour guide was friendly and helpful with lots of knowledge about the area and New Zealand. It was a great trip and I enjoyed the Hooker Valley walk. It was an easy walk that anyone can enjoy.
I would like to compliment Pete for his excellent service! He is very helpful, did his home work to know who his guests are and got off his vehicle to help with luggage. His tour is very informative despite that he has to drive and speak at the same time. Good for someone like me who is new the the country! Overall excellent service!
A good way to travel in NZ, more fun than taking a bus or a plane. This vain trip had a friendly and knowledgeable guide from NZ (Ted), who stopped a scenic places to take pictures or walk.
The forecast of bad weather, which I had given up, was light rain and sometimes sunny. Hooker volleyball, which I longed for, is OK. Overwhelmed by the landscape. The place to rest in the morning is satisfied with warm flat whites and hot chicken pie. I also enjoyed talking about the guide.
It was a long journey of over four hours, departing Queenstown at around 6:45 and arriving at the Hermitage Hotel at 11:10, but the backseat 15-seater van with 11 international passengers was more comfortable than I expected. Along the way, I never got bored because the driver used a microphone to explain the history of the city we were passing through (in English). (The volume was enough for those who wanted to sleep.) I didn't feel too hard physically, as I had a restroom break and stopped for photos at a photo spot. You'll receive a confirmation email immediately after booking and just before boarding, so you can email us if you have any questions. The return trip to Queenstown was a fun compact tour, which I plan to take the Intercity bus, but which I (probably) can't get on the Intercity large bus.
