Itinerary
Your journey begins in the adventure capital of New Zealand. As we drive out of the city, your guide will share stories and point out local highlights.
Departing Queenstown we then make our way north through the stunning Kawarau Gorge passing beautiful views. The Kawarau Suspension Bridge and the famous Roaring Meg Lookout. Time and light permitting we will stop for that first great shot of the tour.
Exiting the Kawarau Gorge we enter the fruit and wine growing region of Cromwell. Passing huge fields of vines we cross Lake Dunstan and follow this striking lake towards Lindis Pass.
Climbing in altitude, Lindis Pass has amazing views down through the valley. Being one of only three alpine roads through the otherwise impassable Southern Alps, we stop at the Lindis Pass lookout 971m above sea level for an essential photo.
While driving through the endless plains of the Mackenzie district we will spot several of the celebrated Merino breed of sheep before stopping at the quaint township of Omarama. While in Omarama we have time for a break or even to try the best creamy chicken pie in NZ (in our opinion)!
Turning west we begin to enter the Aoraki National Park and Lake Pukaki begins to emerge in front of us. Lake Pukaki is one of the bluest lakes you will ever see and stunningly framed by the backdrop of Aoraki/Mt Cook and the Southern Alps. We stop for some amazing photos and to just marvel the sight that we are beholding.
While in the national park you have roughly 2 and a half hours free time to enjoy free walks/hikes or one of the extra optional activities
Farewelling Mt Cook we make our way to Lake Tekapo. This turquoise blue lake is famous world over for its pristine beauty. Upon arriving in Tekapo your guides will point out any highlights we pass while travelling to the drop off locations.

Both drivers, Yanik and Kien (or Kean / Kain), were nice. Yanik was very friendly and helped us load our luggage. They both shared a lot of interesting information during the journey and provided water, lunch boxes, fruit, and more. Overall, the trip exceeded our expectations!
Nice trip! We really appreciate her enthusiasm and patience, also interesting stories!
I was able to visit New Zealand, which I wanted to go to. I've traveled a few countries, but it was my first time participating in a tour. However, the guide was kind, and the participants took great care of me, and it was a fun and wonderful memory. It was early in the morning, but I was still able to enjoy the wonderful scenery, Thank you so much ;)
Kris is a great driver and tour guide. She introduced us to a whole new point of view of the tourist spots. She gave us additional information. We enjoyed our tour even though our time is limited. Highly recommended 👌
Well managed operator. Everything is on schedule. Guide give us information for first time in town. Thank you.
Absolutely amazing experience! Kristina was such a wonderful guide. The weather was not perfect, but the views and her guidance and stories made the trip all worthwhile. I was travelling solo, but it felt safe and comfortable throughout the journey. Thank you!
Great sights & walks, informative & entertaining guide Joseph
We joined the trip about one-third of the way through, which we hadn’t realised beforehand. The booking information didn’t clearly state that the journey started in Christchurch, so we didn’t have the opportunity to choose our seats in advance. As a family of four, this made things a bit tricky. I’m 6 foot tall and found the seating quite cramped, especially as some shorter passengers were in seats with more legroom. The seats themselves were fine, but taller travellers may find it a tight fit. It’s worth noting that seating operates on a first-come, first-served basis. That said, the staff were accommodating where they could be. They kindly allowed our daughter, who can get travel sick, to sit in the front seat when it became available after someone got off at Lake Tekapo, which we really appreciated. But possibly more good luck than anything. Safety briefing was given when we changed drivers, after a few hours, unsure if the Christchurch people got that when they got on, but nothing mentioned when we got on. I did have to load our suitcases into the trailer myself, which having back issues wasn’t ideal. Something to be aware of if you’re picked up later than the first collection point. Communication was excellent—there was a delay due to roadworks, and they kept us well informed about timing before picking us up. The snacks/lunch provided were tasty, and the stops along the way were well chosen. The driver/guide also shared informative and interesting commentary throughout the trip, which added to the overall experience. Overall, a good trip with some minor logistical issues to be aware of, especially around seating if you’re joining partway through or are taller.
This excursion is not worth the money. You have to wake up very early in Queenstown, and the main stop on the way to Mount Cook is just for food. On top of that, there are only two short photo stops, and you don’t actually get the full three hours in Mount Cook as advertised. What you can do in Mount Cook is not clearly explained, and the time there is poorly organized. Our second guide barely said a word between the last two stops, so there was really no point in paying extra for this tour.
I had a great trip down to Queenstown with Cheeky Kiwi. Our tour guides, Yanmis and Joe, were both awesome! Both shared insightful stories about landmarks and sights as we passed. We took plenty of breaks and had time to take pictures, grab snacks, and do small hikes. Both guides were helpful, entertaining, and fun to travel with. I'd definitely recommend this as an option to explore New Zealand without having to rent a car and drive yourself. Thanks again guys!
Had a great day. Picked up on time from my hotel. Mt Cook National Park was stunning. Did the Tasman Glacier look out walk and the Kea Point track. Plenty of other stops on the way too. The two drivers (think it was Jay and Jonathan) provided commentary throughout and displayed that kiwi humour and wit. A great way to see a beautiful part of the country.
Great way of getting from Queenstown to Tekapo and seeing Aoraki/Mt Cook! We’re travelling NZ using the intercity buses but wanted to see more of the Lindis Valley & Aoraki without staying there so booked this. So glad they offer it as not many places do! We had bad weather at Aoraki but our guide Kris got us there safely and we managed to do some of the hikes despite the storm. Unforgettable experience even if it wasn’t the weather we hoped for. Great photo spots and comfortable bus. Only things that could improve was the guide who dropped us at Tekapo (not Kris) wouldn’t drop us near our accommodation (Lakes Edge Holiday Park) so we had to walk 20min with all our bags in the storm. I understand there being limited drop-offs but thought they might be more lenient with the storm (especially as the bus wasn’t full as lots of people had cancelled due to the weather). Also didn’t think the salmon farm was the best stop, who is buying salmon on a day trip to Mt Cook lol! Would be better to stop at the lavender farm round the corner or just do more photo stops, a non-native fish farm didn’t seem the best use of time or the most pleasant! Otherwise a great day and much better than rushing through on an Intercity bus. Thank you Kris and for the extra stop to see the lupin!💜
Efficient way to get from Queenstown to Lake Tekapo. Everyone turned up on time and guides were knowledgeable (lady and gentleman). Good stops for pictures. Good group size and comfortable van
Fast, reliable, and well-organized. Our guide was fantastic — knowledgeable and eager to share lots of interesting facts about the area. We made some great stops along the way, and there was plenty of time to enjoy the hiking.
Great trip with the guide providing all the insights into the history of NZ, extremely friendly. Experience all the great views of mountains, lakes and walking tracks.
Felix and Nick were great guides. Though we had a rainy day at Mount Cook, Felix was accommodating and offered alternative activities for guests to enjoy. Transition also between transportation was smooth. Lastly, the transportations were spacious and comfortable though it was packed. Will definitely recommend.
Really good experience and driver is so friendly and giving us frequent commentary about the significant of the places and taking care of the passengers too
This tour was honestly just incredible! They picked me up from my hotel in a fancy van and we saw some amazing photo stops up to Mt Cook. They took me to see the Tasman Glacier and also some of the Hooker Valley track. The end is closed because they are building a new bridge but the bit we did was awesome! The guide was so helpful and friendly. Really good company.
Despite the weather and the closed Hooker Valley, I enjoyed myself. Beautiful views, great guides, there's nothing more to ask for.
Did a one way Queenstown to Tekapo with Sonia on 27 April 2025. She lack energy, has low enthusiasm, is angsty and slight road rage, hissing and complaining while she drive. Another couple who did another 2 cheeky kiwi tours and I both agree this is the worst guide that we can go with. She gave us some information on some of the stops but due to her attitude, you wouldn’t have find them interesting or wow anyway. Hooker valley was closed for maintenance (announcement on 17 April on official website) but I booked the tour back in Feb, so we can only do part of the walk to the first swing bridge (50 mins round trip) and not the whole 3 hour track. In replacement, we did the Tasman Valley walk which was good too. However, if Cheeky Kiwi has told us in advance, I will have cancel my booking since Hooker Valley hike is the part where I look forward to the most. (There is 10 days between the official announcement and the tour date). In the booking, they also show that you can enjoy salmon slices while looking at lake Tekapo, and is advertised as such. Somewhere in between me making the booking in Feb and the actual tour day (27 April), this stop was removed and not informed as well. Again, very disappointing given the amount of money we pay the tour agency - NZD 399. All in all, a very disappointing experience with Cheeky Kiwi and especially the guide Sonia because the guide do make or break the tour. Tour is pricey and on hindsight, I should have stick to the intercity bus NZD 79.
Kimberly, our bus driver, is an absolutely wonderful person. She is remarkably strong and dedicated, effortlessly handling large, heavy luggage on her own —truly impressive! Despite the chilly early morning, she greeted us with warmth and expertise, instantly brightening our day. She also offered invaluable advice and thoughtful suggestions to help us plan our hike along the Mount Cook Walking Track. Though the day started cloudy, her cheerful encouragement kept our spirits high, and we were delighted when the sun finally broke through by midday. Thank you, Kimberly, for making our experience so memorable!
Worst trip in Aus&New Zealand. It is the worst tour guide I’ve ever met in my trips to Europe, Asia, North America and Oceania.
We did the Queenstown to Tekapo tour via Mt. Cook and everything went as planned. Our guide was very attentive and polite. We recommend.
Glacier and mountain views are breathtaking
We had many wonderful photo spots to stop by and had many memories. I was also struggling with how to spend my free time in my first time at Mount Cook, but the driver recommended a course for me and I really enjoyed it there.
