This tour accommodates large groups and the queue to board starts early, so arrive early if you are particular about your preferred seating on the boat. We advised our dietary preferences in advance and these were nicely catered for. Meeting the farm animals moves along at a pace so not everyone gets to experience hand-feeding or patting.

It’s a beautiful place! I could have just hung out with the farm animals all day. The tea at the end of the farm tour was so charming…and the boat ride was amazing…a fabulous day! Thank you!
Lovely Cruise with romantic live music round trip. The experience was great and I love the sheep show, the interaction with the animals during the tour
Very enjoyable farm tour and show experience. The steamboat ride was fun. The tea was more substantial than anticipated, and the sheep shearing and sheep dog farm show was worth the trip!
Disappointed that a control burn in the area meant that our farm visit was cancelled. I have been advised that a refund of $80 per person will be refunded to me I was also very offended that a cost for two wines exceeded $35 NZD but the level of wine offered did not even come up to the line in the glass
This trip was excellent. Beautiful views and kids had a ball feeding the animals and enjoying the countryside. The afternoon was really nice and the tour guide was great. Definitely worth it.
We loved this cruise across the lake, and the farm was a beautiful little corner of the world to visit. The steam ship had wonderful ambience and was such a comfortable way to take the journey, with a piano in the bar upstairs and a platform below to watch the steam engine in action. The scenery along the way was perfect, and arriving at Walter Peak farm the trend continued with picturesque buildings and gardens. We did a farm tour which included lambs, goats, donkeys, alpacas, sheep and highland cattle, and then enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea with plenty of tasty options and supported by highly attentive staff. The timing of the return journey was perfect and gave us a little bit of extra time to poke around by ourselves before returning to Queenstown. All in all a great day out.
Excellent day all round Walter park and old paddle steamer were great However the parking in Queenstown is pathetic $70 parking fine when we arrived back at car took the shine off the day Especially when we thaught we did the right thing
Fun day out, great farmers taking you through the farm, feeding goats…sheep..alpacas.. donkeys and highland cows, all topped off by a sheep herding show by a marvellous dog, great day out for the family, very well thought out by the operators. Thanks for having us
From the beautiful steam boat ride, to the delicious high tea, feeding the animals, and the amazing dog and sheep show, this 3-hour experience was worth every penny! We made such beautiful and special memories as a family, and it’s honestly so hard to choose a highlight because every part of the experience was fantastic. The whole afternoon was so much fun, relaxing and memorable. A truly wonderful experience that we would highly recommend to anyone visiting! ❤️
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the TSS Earnslaw Lake Wakatipu Cruise and Walter Peak Farm Adventure. The cruise was beautiful, the scenery was breathtaking, and the farm experience was really enjoyable. It was a lovely day out and a memorable experience that we both enjoyed. Highly recommended if you’re visiting Queenstown! ❤️
We had a really enjoyable afternoon on the TSS Earnslaw and Walter Peak Farm tour. The cruise across Lake Wakatipu was beautiful, and the journey itself is a big part of the experience. It takes about 40 minutes each way, with fantastic views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Walter Peak was also excellent. We enjoyed walking around the farm and seeing the pigs, goats, sheep, cows and alpacas. The afternoon tea was much better than we expected—the snacks were very good, and we especially liked the coffee and cheese. The farm show was entertaining as well, and watching the working dog herd the sheep was one of the highlights. The only reason we are giving the tour 4 stars instead of 5 is the communication regarding the sheep-shearing demonstration. Because of rain the previous day, the sheep could not be sheared, which is completely understandable. However, we were not told about this beforehand. Since sheep shearing is one of the advertised parts of the farm show, it would have been better for RealNZ to let guests know at check-in or before boarding that it would not be available that day. A little more transparency would help manage expectations. Aside from that, everything was very well organized and enjoyable, and we would still highly recommend the experience.
The animal tour was such a cute and educational experience! Josh and Mia made the tour fun, engaging, and interesting, and it was so much fun watching them herd the sheep. I really enjoyed learning about the animals, seeing them up close and also feeding them. The afternoon tea was absolutely delicious too. Highly recommend!
Beautiful scenery and the farm show was entertaining. The cruise views was spectacular. Highly recommend!
My family and I live on a farm, but just seeing how they do things at Walter Peak was well worth it. From the cute Valais Sheep to the Highland cows, this was an absolute masterpiece experience. And if you don't like the sound of a farm, at least go for the views; they're incredible. After taking a trip across the lake from Queenstown aboard the TSS Earnslaw, complete with a cafe on board and incredible views of the snow-capped peaks surrounding the lake, we were greeted by the Lovely Georgia. She is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, no matter the weather. Her special bond with Kimberly, the Herding Dog, was so special. The High-Tea was absolutely delicious. Every Staff Member was so lovely and friendly. Just be prepared for wet weather, but don't let that scare you off and enjoy everything it has to offer.
Best animal farm experience we’ve ever done. The weather was beautiful, their working dog Kim was amazing and the views were stunning!
Friendly staff and very friendly animals. The working dogs do a great job at rounding up the sheep and entertaining everyone.
We really enjoyed the TSS cruise! The scenery on Lake Wakatipu was absolutely stunning. The afternoon tea was delicious with a good variety of cakes. The farm tour was well organised, but I wouldn’t recommend visiting in winter. There weren’t many animals out, and the experience wasn’t as enjoyable as it would be in the warmer months. Overall, the cruise and afternoon tea were definitely the highlights of the trip!
We were really looking forward to this trip with our 9- and 12-year-old kids. While the farm was beautiful, a few things were disappointing. First, about 50 people were on the farm tour, and we were taken around as one large group. At many stops there were only 2–3 animals for the entire group to feed. It felt like far too many people for the number of animals, and breaking everyone into smaller groups would have made the experience much more enjoyable. Second, all of the promotional materials, including the brochure, website, and even the boarding pass, prominently feature a Highland cow. This was one of the main reasons we booked the tour. However, during our visit the Highland cattle were not accessible. We could only see them from a distance. Both of my kids were very disappointed, and I felt the marketing materials were misleading. The afternoon tea was decent but not exceptional. Unfortunately, the long lines caused by the large group size also took away from the experience.
Had a great time, very pretty property. Afternoon tea was brilliant.
Farm tour and the lunch provided was great, good range of animals to see, beautiful place and nice boat. Only improvement would be if they reduced the number of bookings on the boat, it felt overcrowded, not enough seats or room to move around.
It was a stunningly beautiful winters day travelling across the lake was beautiful . The farm animals were great to see and to interact with .The tour around the farm was informative and fun to do. The afternoon tea was plentiful well presented and set in a lovely location. The opportunity to purchase some interesting things in the cafe was a bonus. The merchandise available was well priced and offered good variety. Unfortunately the steamer Earnslaw was out for servicing this was not made known to us at the time of booking and we only found out when we arrived. This was disappointing as we were looking forward to going on the old steamer.
Absolutely love this tour. This is our second time visiting the farm. It has the most beautiful scenery and the staff are so friendly and informative. My children always ask a million questions and the guides happily oblige. The afternoon tea is excellent and the view from the dining area is incredible.
Lovely day our learning about the history of the farm. We had a small afternoon tea which was delicious. The boat trip over was also great.
Amazing day at the farm, loved the animals the food and the trip was wonderful there and back! Thank you!
We absolutely loved this tour. The pianist on board the Earnslaw created a welcoming ambiance. It was a smooth ride and we enjoyed the scenery. Our farm guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. The kids liked feeding the animals. Afternoon tea was delicious and the sheep shearing show was great. Highly recommend!
It's a unique experience a beautiful scenic boat trip and a delightful experience at the farm , one of my favourite highlights
A wonderful fully immersive experience Make sure you rug up!! The boat trip was fantastic and the entire farm experience was just so geared to families All staff were very well trained Afternoon tea was really well catered for We thoroughly enjoyed the entire day
The weather was a real let down, don’t go in the rain. The afternoon tea wasn’t really children friendly. Beautiful place though.
Our family enjoyed this tour which is perfect for families with young children. Very enjoyable.
It was overpriced for what was offered. We only saw 2–3 animals, yet the admission fee was quite high. It definitely wasn’t worth the price, and I left feeling disappointed with the overall experience.
Fantastic experience. Took our two kids who absolutely loved all the animals. I would recommend it to people even travelling without kids too. The guide was really lovely and super entertaining and the food was excellent quality too.
A very cool experience! The boat ride was scenic and informative, and we could choose whether we wanted to sit inside or on the observation deck on top. Once we arrived we got a tour of the farm in a group of around 20-30 people where we could feed the animals including cows, sheep, alpacas, deer, donkeys, and goats. Our tour guide was Nell who did an excellent job telling us about the animals and showing us around the farm. After the tour we got some food and checked out the gift shop, and then there was the farm show. We got to watch a demonstration on sheep shearing and a very talented dog herding sheep. After that we got some time to walk around by ourselves before heading back to the boat and back to queenstown. We left queenstown at 1pm and was back around 4pm. I would recommend this for everyone who wants to see more of queenstown outside of the town and mountains :)
Lovely modern cruise, not as charming as TSS Earnslaw but comfortable and fast. The farm tour was great, so many cute animals to pat, lovely place to walk around and take photos! Afternoon tea was surprisingly good, can't get enough of the deserts! Absolutely recommend!
It was amazing experience, kids loved the farm tour, food was great. The service was also fantastic.
The time on the water was quite beautiful. The animals were sweet and friendly - it was fun to feed and pet them. The tea and snacks were nice, and the gift shop had quality items. Boat crew and farm host were excellent.
Lake ride was fun. The farm was amazing. We enjoyed feeding and seeing the animals. The sheep shearing experience was informative and fun. The tea -- wow! So much food to try, all of it delicious.
Tour was great but make sure you know what you're booking! Myself and another person thought we had booked the full lunch and farm tour but it is only one or the other
This was such a fun tour! It is the perfect amount of time. I loved seeing a Highland Cow in person! Feeding and learning about all the animals was so neat. The sheep shearing demonstration was really cool too. The lady that guided us was very friendly and answered all questions happily. The boat ride over was gorgeous. I can't imagine that being your view everyday!!
This was one of the best experiences of my life! We did the 3pm trip to the farm and our boat home was during sunset, it was magical! Each boat ride was 40 minutes and we were at the farm for 2 hours, all around the perfect amount of time!
The trip on the steamer and the farm show were great. I would definitely recommend it. I hear the horse trip is great too.
That it is a great place to visit Going on the cruise boat was great as you get to see the beautiful scenery before getting to Walter Peak farm
Fabulous afternoon! So well organised. The live music on the boat was lovely. The farm tour was so informative and the kids loved being able to feed the animals! Especially loved the farm show at the end. Great afternoon tea and catered for one member of our group being gluten free.
Beautiful cruise, well organized, decent food, beautiful location, and great guide... but farm tour group way too big.
The TSS Earnshaw was terrific. Fully enjoyed the boat itself and the cruise around the lake. I would go on it again and again. It was a smooth cruise. Not a lot of rocking or jolts, but you could feel the speed and wind pretty well. The Walter Peak Farm was disappointing. It was basically a glorified petting zoo. You were brought to the cafe and got some snacks and drinks, then taken from one animal pen to another. Nuggets were given to you so that the animals would come close and you could touch them. We saw sheep, Scottish hairy coo, dairy cow, llama, spotted deer, and goats. Afterwards, they demonstrated the sheep shearing and the talents of a border collie (herding dog). This might be fun for younger kids, but I've seen my share of petting zoos, so I wasn't impressed.
You cruise across the lake to the Farm. It's the best way to get there. Lots of farm animals, and a guide to tell you about each one. Our guide also did the sheep shearing demo and the sheep dog show. She was very knowledgable, humorous and friendly. You're allowed to feed all of the animals - and you don't have to buy the food!
The cruise and the animal farm tour were nice ! We loved the garden & lots of photo opportunities. A half day was perfect length for the tour!
Steamship travel! A great way to see a bit more of the lake. Our stay at the farm was perfect. Plenty of time to savor a BBQ that was beyond plentiful and delicious and enjoy the farm's sheep shearing and herding demonstration.
The property is lovely and right on the shore of the lake. The afternoon tea was lovely and the pastries and cakes were delicious. The tour was a nicely paced around the farm and we learned lots about all the animals. The flower garden were an added bonus. Restroom facilities are clean and in the main building. The ride on the steamboat was special. They spoke of the history of the steamboat and how they build it, disassembled, transported to the lake, and reassembled. It’s been running for over 100 years. Riding the boat is a must do. The farm is a nice option if you have some time and interest in a gentle afternoon strolling the farm and learning.
Brilliant relaxing and informative experience. Josh is wonderful. 🤩
