It was a very small group today which Emma was still kind enough to give us the full experience regardless, and we had such a great time. We learned a lot and was amazing to see the wineries! I'd do it again if i come back

Itinerary
Discover Gibbston wine country with Alpine Wine Tours on an adults-only small-group experience, with a maximum of 10 guests and a New Zealand-born Queenstown local guide.
Leave Queenstown behind for an afternoon exploring Gibbston Valley wine country, where vineyards, mountains and Central Otago Pinot Noir are all within easy reach of town.
Journey into Gibbston, one of Central Otago’s renowned wine-growing areas, where vineyards sit beneath dramatic mountains along the Kawarau River. Discover the landscape and Pinot Noir that have helped put this cool-climate wine region on the map.
Step inside one of Central Otago’s most striking wineries, renowned for its dramatic architecture and award-winning design. Experience Peregrine’s impressive barrel hall and taste a selection of Central Otago wines in a setting unlike a traditional cellar door. A striking combination of architecture, wine and contemporary Central Otago design.
Discover Mt Rosa Wines, a family-owned, single-estate winery nestled beneath the dramatic Nevis Bluff in the heart of Gibbston. Set amongst the vines, its contemporary cellar door is a relaxed setting for a hosted tasting of small-batch wines, including Central Otago Pinot Noir and the opportunity to taste older Pinot Noir vintages. Family-owned hospitality, single-estate wines and a deeper taste of Gibbston Pinot Noir.
Taste Pinot Noir where Central Otago wine history was made. At Gibbston Valley Wines, the founding winery of the Gibbston region and one that helped put Central Otago on the world wine map, savour the wines that made this remarkable region famous. Then take your glass of Pinot Noir into the Home Block vineyard, wandering amongst the vines against the spectacular backdrop of Gibbston’s rugged mountains — an iconic Central Otago wine country experience.
Return to central Queenstown after an afternoon of wine, vineyards and three distinctive winery experiences in Gibbston Valley.

Amazing experience! 100% would recommend to do in the middle of all the adventure that Queenstown has to offer, this is a peaceful and fun retreat!
We had our own private tour with Emma. She was a fantastic host and tour guide. The wineries we visited were amazing and all very different in their own way. Thanks so much Emma.
What a perfect mini afternoon parents escape! The guide, Emma, is thoroughly knowledgeable and friendly and made sure we were well looked after. A beautiful taste of some spectacular wineries in the outer Queenstown region and great service at each winery due to the tour experience. Very comfortable transport (which also meant we could drink and not worry!) and great amount of information about the region. Thoroughly recommend especially to those parents able to get away for a few hours break from the kids!
What a perfect mini afternoon escape from the children! A well put together afternoon of wineries with tastings. The guide, Emma, was very knowledgeable and friendly and each winery gave a very special guided tasting. Beautiful countryside, great comfortable transport, fantastic guide and great wine - what more could you ask for?
Amazing Experience with Emma! You get to learn about the stories behind the New Zealand Pinot Noir vineyards and taste so many variations and local grown! Would recommend to anyone traveling Queenstown!
An absolutely outstanding experience. Emma and her adorable dog Bella made this the best wine tour I’ve ever been on. The smaller, more intimate group size really sets this tour apart and allows for a thoughtfully curated experience from start to finish. If you’re in Queenstown, this is an absolute must-do.
We had a swell time on this tour with our wonderful driver guide Emma. She was very friendly, approachable and knowledge and helped us learn a lot about wines. There was also some flexibility in the types of wines we could choose to try from each winery, which we appreciated. All in all, a very lovely afternoon. Highly recommended.
Wine choices were great and selected based on group preferences, Emma was an amazing and knowledgeable guide, and Bella the wine dog was an amazing tour companion
Great afternoon wine tour visiting some premium wineries and tasting some of their best wines. And someone else was driving!
Our tour guide was friendly, engaging and very knowledgeable Plus wine tour dogs are a bonus we sisnt expect but greatly appreciated
Although our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable, we really didnt visit vineyards, just the tasting rooms. Two of the spokespersons for the wineries were very knowledgeable and friendly whereas at one, he barely showed up to pour us some wine. We had nice places to sit and were very comfortable but no actual vineyards were seen. I would have loved to visit the actual vineyards and sit outside to hear their stories. There was really no food served but after asking, we were allowed to buy some appetizers at second vineyard. Should be advertised to eat lunch first. Tour was from 3-6:30. We did get to taste many different wines which was nice, but I guess the ambiance of the vineyards was missing for us. It was such a lovely day to be herded inside but there was no place to sit outside.
This was a very fun afternoon. The wine venues were very nice with a beautiful wine cellar at Gibson Our guide Emma was wonderful was and Bella the wine dog was a big success with our group.
Myself and my wife Aoibhín had a fantastic day out with Alpine Wine Tours. Grant, our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly and generally really good craic! Would definitely recommend this tour group if you're a wine enthusiast in Queenstown.
Lovely experience also meeting some other couples from various countries. Nice small group of only 8 and we had a fabulous afternoon!
Great wine knowledge, and very personable. The whole experience was super fun, and would highly recommend anyone wanting to do a wine tour, definitely pick this one!!
Emma was great as driver and guide. Very knowledgeable and reliable. Ordered wines from our tastings. Can't go wrong here.
Had a wonderful tour with Emma and the gorgeous wine puppy Bella! Highly recommend. Emma has great knowledge of the region, very informative. This is the second time we have experienced Alpine Wine tours and the standout for us was Kinross this time. Book now, you won’t be disappointed
Emma is amazing! Such a great host and Bella the dog seals the deal. Kinross is such a great winery with lots of different wines and beautiful views.
Fantastic cycle with amazing scenery and thrilling bridges to cross. Great E bikes and great service. Thank you. Definitely recommend this!
Was a great afternoon, if you love wine and your in Queenstown, I definitely recommend doing this tour. Wineries were great and Emma was friendly and informative.
Vicki the guide is awesome and super friendly. Excellent local knowledge and super nice. The tour is a great way to spend a few hours, enjoy great wines and food. Vicki is amazing
We had a superb afternoon with our host Vicki who was friendly, fun and knowledgeable. We visited some beautiful vineyards and tasted some amazing wines. Highly recommend booking with this company they are great!
The wine tour was the highlight of our weekend away! Vickie was so fun and made the day that much more enjoyable. The relationship she has with the owners/employees at the vineyards and her knowledge of their wines is amazing. We highly recommend this tour to everyone!
Thanks Vicki for an incredible day. Your outgoing and vibrant vibe was an added bonus to the wonderful sights and delicious wine we got to enjoy 😉 🥂 A lovely girls (Mother and daughters) trip, topped off by a fantastic experience provided by Alpine Winery Tours. Lunch was a highlight as well as meeting the tour guides at the Vineyards and Vicki of course. Vicki took care of our photos too. Thanks for that! Highly recommend!!!
Was a great time, had a group of 11 of us got picked up from our accomodation and went to 3 lovely wineries! Vicki was a blast and everyone had a great time thank you!
Booked this for 7 of us. What a great afternoon touring through three vineyards and a tour into Gibbston valley wine cave. Our tour guide Vicky was amazing and absolutely perfect as our host. We were with another couple from Aussie already on the tour so it was a total of 9 people and collectively had fun. A good number for the tour. The three vineyards we visited were fantastic, perfect choices for this tour. The highlight was to go into the wine cave and taste at Gibbston valley. It was breathtaking. We started at Akarua wines, then Gibbston valley and finally Mt Rosa where we had a cheese board to go with the tasting. Each vineyard was great and all our tour/tasting guides we very knowledgeable and fun. It’s about 3.5 hrs for the tour and well worth it.
Amazing afternoon wine tour! We booked this on the day and managed to secure a spot for the afternoon wine tour. We went to three great locations which were all different and interesting. Highlight would have to be Mt Rosa - knowledgeable host with good banter and a pretty awesome set up. We learnt a whole bunch and ended up with a few bottles to take away. Would definitely recommend!
You are probably thinking this a really long review, but please keep reading! You don’t want to miss out on such an awesome wine tasting experience: We did the afternoon wine tour and I highly recommend it! Vicki was such an awesome tour guide.. She provided great banter and is such an amazing person. She ensured we were well taken care of and tried the best wines (especially the dessert wines which were our fav). We tasted an excellent selection of wines at some amazing vineyards, and were provided a tasty cheese platter with the most incredible jam made by Ann and Guy from Mt Rosa. It was incredible! A massive shout out to Ali from Akarua, Em from Gibbston Valley, Guy and Anne from Mt Rosa for the spectacular wine tasting. They taught us so much about wine and made sure we had a great time. Please book with Alpine Wine tour. You don’t want to miss out!. Give them a call or a flick them a email and the team are more than happy to help with your booking. Thank you so much Vicki and the Alpine team. We hope to see you again :)
Wow! What an amazing day we had with Vicki- an absolutely superb guide in every way- friendly, fun, knowledgeable and extremely well-organised! Our group of 8 loved every minute of the full-day tour. Vicki took us to 5 vineyards- each had something very special to add to our experience of Central Otago viticulture and wine-making. We loved the passion, pride and commitment of the winemakers who greeted us so warmly at each cellar door. The wines being produced in this very special part of the world are magnificent! We were ‘wowed’ by the beautiful landscapes and the clever way the wine-tasting environments had been created- all different but with incredibly interesting stories of how they came to be. We were treated to a superb lunch at the Stoaker Room in Cromwell- delicious, hearty food cooked in wine barrels and paired with wine. The day will never be forgotten. Thank you so very much, Vicki, for such a truly wonderful experience.
It was an absolute lovely experience, Vicki was amazing and knew so much and kept us very informed, we did two tours with them because they were so amazing, highly recommended ❤
great fun good wines and good company Vicki our driver drove us in style recommend to all who love to finish off the day with a smile
Amazing tour!! Had Vicki as a tour guide and she was the best guide I've had! So friendly and had such a great time with her :) would absolutely recommend
Vicki was the absolute best tour guide. Low key, down to earth and a lot of fun. She became a great friend throughout and we loved it.
This is a fantastic way to sample the vineyards around the Otago area! We stopped at three Vineyards to sample different wines from the area. The first was just to taste and even included a fantastic dessert wine. The second included a wine tour down in Gibbston. Here we got to learn more about how wine is made and even included a tour of one of New Zealand's only wine caves! We did our tasting in the wine cave itself. From there we went to our third and last wine tasting, where we were provided with an absolutely delicious cheese board to accompany the wine. This tour was wonderful and I would have left with more than one bottle of wine if I didn't have self-control!
A great way to spend afternoon in Queenstown if you need a break from hiking and activities. Emma was very accommodating with a potential schedule change. The three wineries were very different and interesting.
We had a terrific time with Vicky on our Alpine Wine Tour. She was funny, knowledgeable and attentive. The three wineries featured terrific Pinot Noir as well as other tasty varietals. It was a very worthwhile afternoon.
Amazing wine tour! We had an awesome time and Vicki was a divine tour guide! Loved her and loved the tour! Bindy at Gibbson wine tour was incredibly educational and extremely fun! This tour is a must!!
What a great trip, everything exceeded expectations. Comfortable minibus, cheerful host (Emma) and 3 great wineries visited. Throughout the journey Emma explained about the regions wines and wine making history, she was very knowledgable. Got to try numerous different local wines and the cheese platter at Mt Rosa was a nice addition. Overall an excellent trip and good value.
A brilliant afternoon, friendly tour guide, knowledgeable wine tour hosts and amazing wine! Would definitely recommend!
My husband and I loved our afternoon with Alpine Tours. We had a lovely guide who was very fun and knowledgeable about the Otago region and wines. All of the wine guides at each winery were great too!
Beautiful scenery and lovely wine. Tour was fantastic very informative and friendly. Plenty of photo opportunities chances to enjoy views and ask questions!
We booked this wine tour on our first day to Queenstown and it remained the highlight for the rest of our trip. It was such an amazing trip and tour and our tour guide, Vicky, made all the difference!! She shared her local knowledge and did everything she could to make sure we were having a great trip, we can’t recommend her tours enough! Each winery we visited had amazing wines to try and each had its own unique vibes. All together we felt like we got a true NZ wine experience that was unforgettable! Thanks again for the tour!
This was really a one of a kind experience for me and my wife. We took the tour from Queenstown. We were picked up by Emma right on time, in a small group of 8 ppl and from there we went to three places - Craft brewery, Gibson valley winery, Mt Rosa winery. The brewery was located in a very nice open location and carried good collection of wines and beers so you can opt for whatever you like. The Gibson valley winery was a good experience to see the grape vines, the property and finally the cellar which is in a tunnel where they store wine to let it age. We got the opportunity to do tasting in the tunnel. Lastly Mt rosa winery was amazing as we got to taste about 7-8 different wines along with a cheese platter. That was more than 15 tastings within a few hours, more than I could have imagined. Emma was very friendly, explaining us the history and details of the surrounding areas while we were driving from one place to another, also helping with suggestions about the best wines to try at the brewery or the cheese pairings with wines. Also the van was very comfortable, relaxing experience. I will recommend doing the tour if you are in Queenstown and like wine.
Had an absolutely fantastic afternoon with the tour group. Our leader Emma was very knowledgable and also very keen on us having fun. The wine cave was quite interesting, but I preferred the smaller and less commercial vineyards. Mt Rosa hosts were hilarious, but that could have been helped by them being the last stop. Would definitely recommend this tour.
We had a great time on the wine tour. Loved the 3 wineries we went to and especially the wine cave. Learnt a lot about the wine making process which was brilliant
This is hands down, one of the best winery tours I’ve done. Not only were the wineries unique and sensational, our tour guide Rob was epic. He kept the trip fun and informative and also has a killer sense of humour. We ended with Mt Rosa winery which was an incredible highlight. Rob also takes some banger Instagram shots too. 10/10
Alpine wine tours spoilt us with this private tour! The three wineries you visit are picturesque, hosted by lovely staff and have deeelicious wine tastings! A wine tasting inside the Gibbston valley wine cave however left us feeling very special compared to the other tours! The private car is very clean and fancy. Our guide Rob, was awesome company and definitely made our tour! We will be recommending everyone go with Alpine wine tours, and let’s get real, we will be back too. If you pick this tour you won’t be disappointed. They are a smaller operator who made us feel very valued as their customer, we loved it.
Our other excursion got rained out, but we weren't going to let that ruin our honeymoon — and we found the best replacement with a wonderful wine tour with Alpine Wine Tours. This company was recommended by our hotel concierge and we were able to quickly and easily book online for a same-day tour. We loved the education components at Gibbston Valley and the local, family feel with our cheese pairing at Mt. Rosa Winery. The cherry on the top was the bubble wrapper sleeves to pack our wines for the trip home that they provided at the end of the day. We would definitely do a tour with Alpine Wine Tours again!
I was looking for a brief activity on a rainy afternoon in Queenstown. This tour was the perfect solution. Our guide, Rob, was fantastic! He was very funny, very knowledgeable and took us to 3 lovely vineyards. I couldn't have asked for a better experience enjoying beautiful New Zealand and its wine. Thank you, Rob!
