After a busy week in New Zealand, it was nice to take a leisurely tour through the Gibbston Valley wine region. Emma and her wine dog, Bella, were delightful. Our tour included one other couple, so a nice small group for chatting. We first went to the Gibbston Winery where we tasted a flight - beautiful winery and location. We next went to the gin distillery, where we tasted a flight of 6 different gins - all very different. Our last stop was at Canyon Brewery, for a beer tasting. Emma was personable, funny, and relaxed as we enjoyed a lovely afternoon.

Itinerary
Discover Queenstown with Alpine Wine Tours on an adults-only small-group afternoon combining Central Otago wine, New Zealand gin, local craft beer and spectacular wine-country scenery.
Leave central Queenstown behind for an afternoon journey through Gibbston wine country and on to Arthur’s Point, combining three distinctive tasting experiences with some of the region’s spectacular landscapes.
Journey into Gibbston, known as the “Valley of the Vines”, where vineyards stretch beneath rugged mountains along the Kawarau River. Discover one of Central Otago’s renowned wine-growing areas before your wine and gin experiences.
Taste Pinot Noir where Central Otago wine history was made. At Gibbston Valley Wines, the founding winery of the Gibbston region and the winery that helped put Central Otago wine on the world map, savour the wines that made this remarkable region famous. Then take your glass of Pinot Noir into the Home Block vineyard, wandering amongst the vines against the spectacular backdrop of Gibbston’s rugged mountains — an iconic Central Otago wine country experience.
Then switch things up at GT Tasting Room at Gibbston Tavern with a hosted tasting of premium New Zealand craft gin. Discover locally made artisan spirits in a relaxed setting in the heart of Gibbston — or, if gin isn’t your thing, choose a hosted wine tasting instead.
Leave Gibbston wine country behind and journey towards Arthur’s Point and the dramatic Shotover River — a striking change of scenery as your afternoon moves from vineyards and vines to one of Queenstown’s most iconic alpine river landscapes.
Sip locally brewed craft beer above one of Queenstown’s most dramatic river landscapes. Perched high above the Shotover River, Canyon Brewing pairs epic canyon and mountain views with its own on-site microbrewery. Settle into the relaxed beer garden, where hops grow around you, and taste a flight of beers brewed right here in Queenstown. Prefer wine? A New Zealand wine tasting is available instead.
Return to central Queenstown after an afternoon that takes you from the vineyards of Gibbston to the dramatic Shotover River, with Central Otago wine, New Zealand craft gin and locally brewed beer along the way.

The tour was a great all rounder experience, with great wine, gin and beer. The guide, Emma, was knowledgeable and made the experience really special.
We picked this due to time it started at 3pm and how long it went for as we had babysitter for the kids ! It had variety for everyone with wine, gin and beer ! Perfect for us. Our guide was amazing !!! Loved the commentary’s and so friendly . Distillery had a lovely lady and very knowledgeable. Gin amazing , hard to choose a favourite ! Winery was a different one they usually visit but not disappointed at all, it was amazing - the man at Kinross who was doing tastings there was full of knowledge of everything local , really enjoyed listening to him and learning about the area . Lovely wines . Canyon brewery was a great finishing spot . Vehicle was clean and very comfortable . Definitely a highlight of our trip- thank you ! Highly recommend
All in all it was a good day out, but there were a few things to point out: Please note we have done multiple wine tours in QT. So differences were very noticeable. We thought the gin tasting would’ve been a bit more private since we were with a tour group - it was free gin tasting, so was a bit of a drive for a 10 min tasting and when other tourists gathered in the small room with our group of 10 and enjoyed the free tasting also, it was a bit weird. It would’ve been ideal to have had the direction of the bathrooms pointed out at this stop after a bit of a drive to Arrowtown. We did think there would be a small snack included (even if just cheese/crackers) we weren’t given anything after having 3 different tasting stops. We weren’t offered any menu or time to purchase anything either. For a half day trip, and drinking quite a bit, some sort of food would’ve been welcomed. Driver was very friendly which was great and was a good driver. I’d recommend to check out the pricing of the different tours so you make sure you get your moneys worth.
The driver while lovely and gave great insight into the area and where we were going, was essentially just our transportation/liason between venues. Given the length of the tour, I think a few snacks or nibbles could have been included to glam up the experience a little. It was a shame the wine dog didn't really like men and was a bit snappy and was wearing a nappy. There were 4 of us travelling together and a couple and yes we did enjoy ourselves but... Stop 1. I felt the wine guy did his best but was busy. Stop 2. The gin guy was a great story teller but I think I would have liked a better look around Arrowtown as well. We stood for the whole experience. Stop 3. The brewer guy, nice but it was a quick rushed spiel and here's your beer.
Emma was an amazing tour guide! Very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. She made the tour extremely enjoyable and I would definitely do another tour with her in the future!
Stop looking anywhere else, this is the tour you want to go on. We had a great time with Emma, she had so much knowledge about the places we visited and about queenatown in general Having Bella along for the ride made it even more enjoyable.
Lee was such a gem, her knowledge and expertise was truly incredible. We would recommend anyone travelling to Queenstown to do the wine, gin and beer tour! And Lee’s great for a chat ❤️
Great mix of relaxed beer garden vibes, fine wine at 5 star restaurant setting and small cute yet very tasty gin experience.
Wonderful tour! Our tour guide, Emma, was fabulous and gave us a lot of good information about Queenstown. All of the stops were great and the staff knowledgeable about their product. Phillip at Rifter’s was by far the best. Highly recommend. Make sure you eat something before you go!
Had an amazing tour with Emma and little Bella, looking forward to seeing Emma again when we return to queenstown. Miss those drinks already.
We toured canyon brewing which had beautiful views and tasty beer, we followed up with broken heart gin distillery where we learned about its history and the gin choices were quite good as well. We ended at Ayrburn winery which had a beautiful small Christmas village vibe to it, and the wines there were spectacular. My wife and I were the only ones on The tour considering it was a Monday in the off-season, our guide Gessica was fantastic, she was very knowledgeable about the area and the tastings it was a delight to have her as a guide!
We enjoyed the tour, Emma was knowledgeable and a lovely guide, venues were great, although the last venue, the winery was a bit rushed. The 3pm start was great, giving us almost a full day to do other things. A complementary cheese platter or tapas at the end would have been a nice touch.
Great transport, great tour guide. Great time was had by all. Very informative, relaxing and money well spent. We were comfortable during our trip and were made very welcome at all of our stops. Emma our guide was also very knowledgeable and good fun
We had a lovely tour yesterday with Emma in her super comfortable van. It was great to have a mix of beer, gin and wine and the venues were awesome on a lovely April afternoon. Emma was a super tour guide and the people at each venue were welcoming and very knowledgeable!
This was the highlight of our trip to Queenstown! Emma, our host, was so accommodating. Communication was great from booking, amending the date, and adding a person. Se took such wonderful care of all of us, but my grandmother especially which my family greatly appreciated. The brewery was nice, with a spectacular view and very generous pouts. The Broken Hearts gin garden was definitely a crowd favorite, with lots if spirits on offer and extremely knowledgeable staff. Katherine was our host and she took such good care of us, her mixer recommendations were spot on! There wasn't an option anyone disliked, which is saying a lot for out group! We went to the Ayrburn winery, which despite being very new had great atmosphere with a lot of history and pizzazz. Ruth was our host and she was so informative and engaging. 100% would recommend to everyone we meet!
Great tour and perfect way to spend a late afternoon in Queenstown. Our lovely guide Emma was super knowledgeable on all the wines and shared a wealth of local knowledge with great recommendations for both Queenstown and surrounding areas. Would highly recommend this tour.
We really enjoyed this tour, Emma the host is lovely and made an effort to show us the sights along the drive. The tastings were delicious, especially enjoyed the gin. Would highly recommend!
It was a great tour and Emma was an awesome host! Very flexible at all the tastings venues to accomodate for your own likings.
Emma was a great host. Great afternoon out! Was a great tour to do. Unique with great variety. Amazing scenery.
Our family had a fantastic time with Emma on this wine, gin, and beer tour in Queenstown. For those groups with different drink preferences, this tour allowed everyone to be happy. Also, seeing the beautiful areas outside of Queenstown in a comfy sprinter van was a treat. Emma ensured that we had knowledgeable guides at each stop, helping us make great choices. To top it off, we had a delicious and filling cheese board that paired so well. With an early afternoon schedule, we were back in town in time for dinner. We would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Queenstown.
