Abbie our guide for the day did everything she could to make our tour a wonderful experience. She is an absolute gem and was so happy and helpful.

Itinerary
Your tour starts in the stunning city of Queenstown. As we drive out of the city your guide will not only set the scene for your adventurous day but also point out and guide you past some of the area’s top highlights.
Departing Queenstown we then make our way through the Kawarau Gorge passing stunning views, the Kawarau Suspension Bridge and the famous Roaring Meg Lookout. Time and light permitting we will stop for that first great shot of the tour.
Exiting the Kawarau Gorge we enter the fruit and wine growing region of Cromwell. Passing huge fields of vines, we cross Lake Dunstan and follow this beautiful lake towards Lindis Pass.
Climbing in altitude, Lindis Pass has amazing views down through the valleys. Being one of only three alpine roads through the otherwise impassable Southern Alps, we stop at the famous lookout at the top of the pass for an essential photo.
While driving through the endless plains of the Mackenzie district we will spot several of the famous Merino breed of sheep before stopping at the quaint township of Omarama. While in Omarama we have time for a break or even to try the best creamy chicken pie in NZ (in our opinion)!
Turning west we begin to enter the Aoraki National Park and Lake Pukaki begins to emerge in front of us. Lake Pukaki is one of the bluest lakes you will ever see and is stunningly framed by the backdrop of Aoraki/Mt Cook and the Southern Alps. We stop for some amazing photos and to marvel at the sight that we are beholding. It’s not hard to see why many Lord of the Rings scene were filmed nearby and we will point them out for you.
Check-in and get ready for an unforgettable experience flying in a ski plane and a helicopter, on the same day, for the ultimate experience of Aoraki/Mount Cook! This amazing scenic adventure includes a glacier snow landing on the Tasman Glacier. ** Please note - our airline partner has a fuel surcharge of NZ$20 per person in place until further notice. This is to be paid directly to the airline upon check-in **
As part of you ultimate alpine experience you will land on the Tasman glacier and get a chance to explore this amazing location.
While in the national park you have 30 minutes free time to enjoy free walks/hikes or one of the extra optional activities. Some of our recommendations include Kea Point Track or the Sir Edmond Hillary Alpine Centre. Whatever you decide to do we will pick you up and drop you off where you need to go and make sure you are well looked after.
After your flight we arrive at the Mt Cook Village, weather depending, we should get some amazing shots of the mountain itself. At 3724m, Aoraki/Mt Cook is New Zealand’s highest peak, however, the mountain can be viewed without any acclimatisation whatsoever from the village which is just 750m above sea level.
Farewelling Aoraki/Mt Cook Village and making our way back to Queenstown we stop in at High Country Salmon, a local salmon farm, where you can feed the fish and taste some of the freshest salmon in New Zealand.
During summer months when the sun is still up and as we get close to Queenstown, we often stop at Jacksons Orchard to try or buy some delicious local fruit or real fruit ice cream.
Sadly the tour must come to an end as we re-enter Queenstown and say our goodbyes.

Our driver and guide Nikki was amazing and friendly which is not something to be taken for granted considering we've had a really bad one for a tour to Milford sound. The pilots were good too and the helicopter landing on Tasman glacier and the plane ride back were just outworldly. We were also very lucky to have perfect weather on that day.
Unfortunately bad weather meant that our original tour activities were no longer possible (including the flight), however, our guide was fantastic and went above and beyond to ensure we all still had a wonderful time.
What a fabulous fun informative day. The Trans Alpine train was very comfortable and the scenery spectacular. We disembarked at Arthur’s Pass and were met by Paul who drove us up to the viaduct which unfortunately was a little fogged in but we did get some glimpses through the clouds. We followed it up with a hike up to Devils Punchbowl Falls which was well worth the 350 steps. FYI wear good hiking boots it’s a bit of a rocky climb and the railings a little slippery in parts. Lunch at the pub at Arthur’s Pass was ok. Nice pit stop before the drive back which included a couple of stops. First was a walk to Narnia, which had some pretty unusual rock formations. It was a super easy 2k loop. Second stop was in Springfield for a quick photo op. Paul was professional, friendly and safe. Big thank you for an awesome day. Looking forward to our next Cheeky Kiwi adventure in a few days.
The Ultimate Alpine Combo was one of the coolest experiences I have ever had! Mount Cook is so vast and diverse in the scenery and it is absolutely stunning. We had a PERFECT bluebird day and landed on a pristine, untouched glacier. Very cool to experience the helicopter and ski plane in the same outing! 10/10 would recommend.
The helicopter ride was great. Unfortunate the plane wasn't operating on the day we went. Our flight was dropped from 45mins (plane and helicopter) to a 25min helicopter ride. Upon reflection I should have asked to be placed on a longer flight. The operators were all lovely, our bus driver was quite knowledgeable and full of stories on the drive. We will definately try again next time we visit
This was an awesome experience that is highly recommend to anyone! Our driver, Olly, was personable and informative, and really nice on top of it all. The pilots for the flights, Roger and Blair, were great. Honestly, though, those mountains... The glacier.... Truly awe-inspiring. Also, just as a side, Cheeky Kiwi is an awesome company to deal with!
The Mt Cook tour and ultimate alpine experience was amazing. Well priced for everything that was included and our your slide Rob was the best. Very knowledgeable while at the same time charming and hilarious. The helicopter ride was a blast and landing on the glacier was definitely a unique experience. Definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a fun adventure.
We had the best day. Jess our guide was lovely and knowledgeable. The van had everything we needed. The glacier was amazing.
Lynette our tour guide was super knowledgeable, fun, and helpful. She kept the day moving along and was always upbeat. She was also able to help us secure a last minute ultimate Alpine experience, which I highly recommend. Memorable day to Mt Cook with the cheeky folk. Would highly recommend, especially to avoid making the long drive yourself to Mt Cook.
The heli ride was amazing. It was our first time to ride the helicopter and it was well worth it. The tour guide helped each group arrive on time omin each location and dropped/picked us up accordingly. The views were amazing while in the air, and the glacier landing was once in a lifetime experience. My kid loved it so much. Make sure to bring your sunnies because of the snow and sun. We weren’t able to do any of the hikes though because there was not enough time given the heli ride. I wish we were able to do at least part of it. There was also a time when we had to wait 45 minutes for one group to return from the heli ride, it could have been used to do one of the walks.
Had an incredible trip, our driver Chris was fantastic, lots of local knowledge, dad jokes, stopped at the perfect spots for beautiful photos and came with great recommendations. We added on the scenic flight option and it was marvellous, couldn't fault our trip at all. Will definitely use again for future tours.
Our tour guide Joseph was fantastic! Really knowledgeable and professional. The weather unfortunately interrupted part of our planned expedition but Joseph and the team kept us apprised at all times. I highly recommend this tour! Cheers!
The place was amazing! Mount Cook was fully covered with snow and at that time it was also snowing. We were able to take lots of pictures to keep for memories. For the heli and plane rides however, unfortunately, we were told that these would be cancelled because of the weather. Although we were not able to experience the flying part, I still rate this 5 stars since the weather was definitely not under the organizers' control. Besides, the price for the plane and helicopter rides were refunded immediately and I truly appreciated this. I also liked it that they were prioritizing their customers' safety above all else. Our driver/guide Lynette was also very kind, patient and had full of stories to tell during the entire trip. Thank you Tripadvisor and Cheeky Kiwi Travel for making this tour memorable. It is also wonderful that tours such as this one make it very convenient for us to visit such wonderful places!
Helicopter trip to mountain cook is very fabulous! The scene is very beautiful. Snow and Ice attracts me. The guide is kind. I highly recommend Cheekykiwi.
The flight was cancelled due to windy weather - not the company’s fault at all, but then the alternative activities - walking around the lakes - was also a let down. It’s a long drive to get there, and we spent a short time doing one walk, but 2 members of the group didn’t come back on time so we couldn’t move on, and the guide was more concerned about others who were getting on a different bus to Christchurch. Therefore, we had no time to see the Tasman glacier so we had to stay in the same place. I feel it was poorly organised and we were rushed to accommodate others using the trip as more of a means of transport from Queenstown to Christchurch rather than a guided tour. Quite disappointing as I had booked just to see the Tasman glacier, so I think the tours should be separated to ensure people don’t miss out, as it is not cheap.
Their website was so clear to call out the details of every trip and as a foreigner, i felt very comfortable. Booking was hassle free but i still had my doubts on how the trip would go. Right from the pick up on day 1, till the end of day 4 their tour guides across the South island trips were amazing. So friendly, very interactive, polite and hospitable. 1. 19th April CHC to Queenstown- Jess was out tour manager and driver. She was absolutely briming with energy and was a great start 2. 20th April Milford sound - Tommy was a cool tour manager and even helped us with few Photo clicks 3 21st April Queenstown to Franz Joseph - I forgot the gentleman's name. He was so kind enough to go and voluntarily check with restaurant manager when we wanted to know if what was served to us was absolutely Vegan 4. 22nd April Franz Joseph to Grey Mouth - Jonny was our tour manager who gave us lot of info about Māori culture and could not have been better to hear from him who has his proud ancestry into Māori lineage. Timely pickup, what was given in Itinerary as actually shown. Picnic lunch was provided at nice restaurants. A memorable trip with Cheeky Kiwi and Cheeky Kea. Miss you guys!!!
One of the best experiences I’ll have in my life span. The weather was gorgeous and the plane and helicopter were just something out of this world. I’ll definitely coming back and doing it again. Too good!!
This was a wonderful tour! We had superb weather, which made the long scenic drive exceptionally beautiful. Our guide was excellent, giving us interesting stories and background information all the way. The options for different travellers at Mt. Cook were clearly explained and our guide was attentive and thoughtful as she dropped us off at the various sites, then collected us again afterwards. We chose the helicopter and ski-plane flight and this too was very efficiently organised and the pilots were welcoming and informative, as well as giving us a wonderful experience, soaring up onto the glacier. Although expensive, this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us and we loved the whole day.
Absolutely great experience. I doubt there is a better way to see Mount Cook short of climbing it. Very helpful driver for the trip.
Absolutely amazing. We started out a little worried that our flights would be cancelled due to the weather but the skies cleared just in time. We had truly spectacular views from the plane and landed right on the glacier. Took in all the amazing scenery before switching to the helicopter. Our return to the airport was just as exciting as the plane ride. A must when in NZ.
Absolutely stunning!! We flew up on the plane and helicoptered back down. Such amazing views. We were worried about the weather the whole drive up but by the time we started it was clear skies and gorgeous scenery.
This trip was very pleasant and comfortable for me. The guide was very kind and often talked with us about the scenery and history
We went with Michelle @ Cheeky Kiwi Travel. Would highly recommend this tour -- he is a very good tour guide and the Mt. Cook area is amazing. Do both the Ski Plane & Helicopter rides - totally worth it. For those who have been to Alaska, it is exactly like the Pika Glacier.
A very memorable trip and exciting experience. A small coach bus made it relatively easy for all occupants to embark and disembark. The coach driver Lynetta was very motivated and enthustiastic about giving us a very positive experience. She looked after everyone's need very courteously and efficiently. On the way to Mt Cook, she stopped at all the right places and narrated the local history. Our helicopter flight and landing on the Tasman glacier was a highlight of the tour. Helicopter pilot Roger was very pleasant and gave appropriate commentry as we were flying. The return journey in a small plane offered relatively average viewing in comparison to the helicopter. Pilot Angus could have been more verbal and enthusiastic about the flight. It was very busy but food in the cafeteria was of high quality. Overall, a very positive visit and experience.
I had high expectations for this tour due to the cost and just the fact that I’ve always had amazing tour experiences for day trips. Unfortunately my expectations weren’t 100% met and am disappointed that we paid so much for this tour. Our tour guide, despite being super nice and friendly, seemed a bit unorganized and wasn’t engaging. My expectation for tour guides is that they are outgoing, have a ton of knowledge of the tour/country we’re visiting, and is engaging. Luckily we had such a gorgeous day at Mt Cook that it made for a great time and the company who did the helicopter and plane were fabulous. However, my husband and I left a little disappointed and wished we had just driven ourselves/booked the plane/helicopter by ourselves and not paid for a tour company.
The best day ever. The Mt Cook Tour and Ultimate Alpine Experience was amazing. Worth every cent for such an awesome experience. Every stop on the tour was a winner. Dayton is the perfect guide. He is passionate about the outdoors and has a friendly, caring and respectful manner. There was a diverse range of ages, nationalities and fitness levels in the group today and Dayton treated us all with genuine kindness and respect. The playlists were a great soundtrack to the day. His commentary was entertaining and well researched. Deer wars and Shrek are but two of his tales worth tuning in to. The bus was a high standard, comfortable and clean.
Took the heli/ski plane combo tour with glacier landing. Very brief flights, but wonderful views. Very cool to stand on glacier snow.
Absolutely superb day! Colin, our driver/guide was fantastic- energetic, informative, friendly, humorous. The drive included some nice “break” stops. The best part was the ski plane+helicopter flight into the glacier… weather was mild and clear and calm, so visibility was great!
The guide was responsive, pleasant, helpfull and knowledgeable. Nice route, good choice of stop-overs, wonderful sight.
This tour was incredible! Once in a lifetime experience and I highly recommend it especially the glacier flight. Amazing!!
Hanna was the best tour guide. She recommended me the helicopter ride and it was the best experience of my life. I can't thank her enough for being so informative and energetic throughout the trip
We had an incredible time exploring Mt. Cook. Georgia, our trip guide, was consistently helpful and full of valuable insights. Traveling by van was smooth sailing, with Georgia's driving skills leaving us with no concerns. The scenery along the drive was absolutely stunning, and the helicopter ride to the mountain's peak took our breath away. This trip is undoubtedly worth every moment.
Jeff and Renee picked me up on time and it was clear that they ran a very safe, professional and relaxed programme. With everyone on board a thorough safety briefing was given. 4 hours or so to get to the Mount Cook flight line was filled with multiple bathroom stops, opportunities to get food and loads of informative Kiwi 'banter' and info about the tour, Kiwi history, conservation and route. We had a great bunch of folks on board who all gelled and the atmosphere was excitable and infectious. At the flight line a bit of a wait to separate the passengers into various groups and assign flight groups, tours etc. The actual flight up to the Mt Cook glacier was by helicopter and down by fixed wing ski plane. Both pilots were very safe, professional and eager to please and provide info, photos etc. Awe inspiring scenery on the glacier, with lots of opportunities to take photos, ask questions etc. Seeing global warming personally and its effects were incredible and revealing. So, the price at over NZ$700 (£350 Sterling) is hefty, no getting away from it. Was it worth it - absolutely - every penny! Over 12 hours of a tour, beautiful weather, 2 flights and an unbeatable experience on the glacier, made some good friends and plenty of belly laughs - stuff of legends. Jeff and Renee were absolute Stars and bounced of each other and the passengers. Well done Cheeky Kiwi - great memories...
Overall an exceptional tour. Stops were great. Food options for purchase were really nice. Bus was comfy. Only downside was the long wait for the helicopter and plane ride. Jeff was a very informative and friendly driver who dropped us off at our accommodation at the end of a very long but enjoyable day.
The helicopter ride was amazing, the tour guide was great a shame the wait at the airport was so long.
This was a once in a life time experience for us! The day was sunny, light winds, and the ice and snow sparkled like glitter. Several spectacular photos that day. FYI You'll have 15 minutes to walk around in a staked out area and take pictures at the glacier. I wouldn't have used precious suitcase space with fleece wear if I'd known that. We went the 2nd week in March.
The tour was great and the scenery magnificent. The tour guide, Cameron, was young but knowledgeable and enthusiastic. There was plenty of great photo opportunities. The major disappointment for me was plane ride was cancelled and the helicopter flight was cut short due to weather conditions. This is not the fault of the tour company and I understand safety is of utmost importance. The whole reason I booked this flight was to land on the glacier. The helicopter company did give us a partial refund for the shortened flight. We had an enjoyable time nonetheless.
One of the best things I’ve ever done!! The tour guide Denny was a wonderful young woman who drove 16 of us from Queenstown to Mt Cook Aoraki and back, stopping at various locations so we could enjoy picture taking. This included rest stops and informative dialogue. The ride was long but beautiful! The actual flying experience was amazing and one of the best things I’ve ever done! The plane ride was smooth and landing on the Franz Josef glacier was exciting! We had ample time on the glacier to experience it and take photos. The return trip on the helicopter was my favorite thing! Our pilot got us up close to the mountains and the views were unforgettable!! He landed us back to earth like we were a butterfly touching down!! Great great experience!!!
One of the best things I’ve ever done! Fantastic views!! The plane ride was smooth for such a small craft and the helicopter ride was absolutely incredible!!! Loved this experience!!!
The helicopter/ski plane made the long journey well worth it! Seating can be a bit cramped throughout. The stops helped to break up the trip. The Wrinkly Rams was a nice little cafe, and the salmon farm on the way back had some fresh sushi rolls! We may drive on our own up to Mt Cook next time though
Chinsan our tour operator (pilot lol) for today was superb, funny. Made the trip so enjoyable and fun. Would definitely recommend. Thank you for an awesome experience.
So first of all, the team is amazing. John made sure everyone had all the facts in a timely manner and more, he did his best to make the trip lively and interesting. The other member I interacted with was very sweet. The tour in itself was nice, we saw beautiful things and learned a lot. However, the organization, I was not satisfied with. I booked the helicopter flight and received an email only the day before warning about the weather and possible cancellation. It was of course canceled due to bad weather but we only had the confirmation on the day itself at 10 am. I also was not the only one in this situation and all of us had the same disappointing experience of going on a trip we wouldn’t have booked without the helicopter option and not given the option to back down earlier. Now, I understand the team did their very best and have no control over the weather, nor the flight company decisions. It doesn’t make the experience any better.
Was an amazing but long day. Cheeky kiwi travel picked us up from our hotel at 6:50am and off we started our tour. First stop was at Tarras to grab quick brekky and refuel and stretch our legs then back in the van as it was very early not much could be seen in the surroundings outside. Next stop was a lookout close to reaching Mt Cook National Park was absolutely beautiful Once we reached Mt Cook you had the option of a 3hr hike or 1hr hike. We had booked to do glacier landing / helicopter flight but due to bad weather it got cancelled. We ended up doing the 1hr hike to Tasman Glacier Lake which was incredible we got to see little icebergs formed in the lake. After our hike we went back to the Hermitage for lunch and to take in the views of Mt Cook. We got picked up at 2:30pm and made our journey back to Queenstown we stopped at High Country Salmon and Roaring Meg Gorge We got dropped back at our hotel by 6:30pm Our tour guide John was very friendly and knowledgeable made sure we all had a great time and have us lots of tips for our stay in Queenstown
Shane was an awesome guide! He was knowledgeable, funny & friendly. A small group but he made it engaging and fun. Would defos book again & recommend to others looking for tour guides when in NZ. Thank you again Shane, we had a great time ☺️
We had a great day with Crystal as our guide - she was good fun and really got the [small] group to be a team. Unfortunately, the weather was awful - so sadly our flights around Mt Cook were cancelled (prompt refund though) but Crystal made sure we had a full day - visiting the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre and Hermitage Hotel, as well walking to Lake Tasman to see the calving icebergs there. The stop at the salmon farm on the way back was also entertaining. Highly recommend Cheeky Kiwi.
The helicopter ride was amazing and weather was great. Stops timings could have been better. Stops at the same stop twice should have been avoided. And clear instructions for not touching the things on the seats to the new people should have been given. Appreciate the the tour operator Mike for calling the Uber for us, that's very sweet of him to do. Loved it
I would rate 10 out of 5! Shein (not sure about the spelling) is sooo nice and helpful. Always tells sooo many history and stories. He made really nice plans and we all had an excellent day in Qtn!
Amazing day, beautiful weather, great commentary very informative and interesting. Awesinspiring scenery Helicopter ride was just breathaking
