Lord Of The Rings Scenic Half Day Tour From Queenstown

We did the tour with John yesterday and we absolutely loved it! He was extremely pleasant, incredibly knowledgeable, and showed us some wonderful filming locations while sharing plenty of interesting facts about other movies as well. Time just flew by. He also had a fantastic detail with us, providing breakfast for everyone and bringing along some costumes from the movie. Highly recommended, if you're planning to take this tour, definitely do it with John. You won't regret it! Thank you so much

The driver picked us up on bench near city center close to hotel. Discussed wide range of knowledge about the movies. Drove us to the locations used in the movie which was amazing. Also showed scenes from movie and took picture of you with same scene in the background. Even had a snack. I wasn’t expecting the heavy swords and costumes that were available to take picture with. I was able to squeeze this tour in while having morning to myself from another tour. This was cool.

It was really fun and the Amy was amazing. Was about four and a half hours, but the fellowship was wonderful.

This tour was a highlight of our trip, and a big part of that was our guide, Tristan. He's a genuine super fan, and you can tell from the moment he starts talking. His knowledge of the films, the books, and what went on behind the scenes is incredible, and his passion is completely contagious. Even the more casual fans in our group were hanging off every word. On top of that, his humour is hilarious. Proper good lad. He had us laughing the whole way through without ever overdoing it, and the banter kept the energy high from start to finish. There wasn't a dull moment. Tristan made us feel so welcome from the second we met. Every question got a thoughtful, detailed answer, no matter how nerdy, and he never made anyone feel silly for asking. He clearly loves sharing this stuff, and it made the whole experience feel personal rather than like a scripted tour. The locations were stunning, the pacing was perfect, and we came away with a new appreciation for both the films and the landscape they were shot in. It was easily one of the best tours we've done in New Zealand. Would I recommend it? 100%. And if you can, request Tristan. He turns a great tour into an exceptional one. I had a great time! The weather was against us, but it didn't matter, as our guide, Tristan, was the best part of the tour. His knowledge of LotR and his recommendations were a joy.

Really enojoyed half day tour. Exciting to see so many sites from LOTRs!! Kate, (owner), rang us after hours from her home to sort out some minor questions we had. Amazing service!! Jono was knowledgeable of LOTR and other interesting topics and we felt seen and cared for throughout. He showed a passion for Aortearoa culturally and environmentally. Overall he is a very impressive young man.

Amazing tour, Tristan was a fantastic guide and super knowledgeable about everything Lord of the Rings. Beautiful scenery, great photo opportunities and definitely a tour to remember!

Atmosphere was best, staff was friendly, nice travel

A nice way to spend an afternoon. An hour drive with stops along a very scenic road. 10 of us in a van. The guide used a notebook to compare movie scenes with the same spot here in the Glenorchy National park. Towards the end, we drove on a gravel road and crossed a stream. In the Beech forest, our guide passed out tea and cake. She had costumes and swords for people to dress up. An hour drive back.

This was so much fun. Even though the three of us liked LOTR I was a much bigger fan than the other two and the locations we went to were so gorgeous it's a fun tour on its own. The extremely enthusiastic guide was fun, energetic, knowledgeable, and passionate. The flip book helped even the novices in the group to connect between the scenes and what we were looking at. Queenstown is under MASSIVE construction right now, completely ruining map directions on the phone. We left with lots of time to spare but our "6 minute drive" turned into a 25 minute one and were were panicked at missing the tour. They called us up and flagged us down in the street while were were trying to find the location. I appreciate the extra care. We had the opportunity for tea and biscuits next to a gorgeous lake, the cosplay opportunity was fun and brought out the kid in a tour full of adults, and I have a lot of trivia to share with my fellow nerds back home. I had as much fun doing this as we had in Hobbiton.

My friend and I took this morning tour. Guide was excellent, full of facts and fun stories. She’s a fan of Lord of the rings and Hobbit. I on the other hand was along for the spectacular views. I would recommend this tour for fans and view seekers.

I had a lovely adventure with both Eby and Amy on my full day LOTR tour. Full of be hind the scenes info along with New Zealand info. I appreciate everything including the warm drinks!

We were able to see various LotR sites and learn valuable insights from our guide Dan. His enthusiasm was contagious. I read the books but had not seen the movies, but I still found the experience were enjoyable.

Our guide, Dan, is very knowledgeable about the LOTR & Hobbit movies, his little quotes from the movies used in our interactions made for a funny trip. Small group if mostly LOTR geeks made for interesting conversations.

Despite the AWFUL AWFUL weather, Tristan led a wonderful tour. It was obvious he was a true LOTR nerd, but also passionate about ensuring everyone's enjoyment and safety.

This was a fantastic tour! Dan was a fantastic guide, extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and a great photographer for our recreation photos. He had such a great understanding of the landscape as well as the movies, making this a very fun tour for fans of the LOTR, but also inclusive for those who might not have seen the movies.

Not a Lord of the Rings fan but a fan of visiting film locations so still had a great time on this tour. Dan was a great tour guide and he was extremely helpful having screenshots to show us, in fact I leaned towards this tour just because in the pics it looked like they had screenshots to show us. The drive up to Glenorchy is fantastic, it doesn't matter if you're a LOTR fan or not. Beautiful country tour.

Great experience seeing the beautiful scenery of Glenorchy and realising how much work went into the LOTR. The guide is really knowledgeable and accepting of all levels of knowledge so you never feel awkward!

Well organized. Loved the dressing up in the costumes and swords! Tristan, our guide, was personable, funny and very knowledgeable about all things LOTR. Peter Jackson found the most gorgeous place on earth to film these movies. We even saw the film crews and equipment getting ready for the location shooting for the next upcoming LOTR film.

Was a great trip. I would recommend 💯 to anyone traveling with a free half day.

Our experience with Jono definitely exceeded our expectations. He transformed a jaunt through an already amazing landscape to many scenic and remote spots into a magical adventure complete with LOTR costumes and accessories for us to create memorable photographs in Fangorn Forest. We’ll worth it!

It's a nice tour and the guide was great, but quite expensive, it wold have been way cheaper to do it ourselves by car.

We had a great morning tour with Tristan. He was very knowledgeable about both the films and the books. At each of the stops he showed us scenes from a hand held portfolio, and he set up and served a nice tea with treats at the midpoint. A bit later he unpacked a case with weapons and costumes, talked about each and helped us dress and hold the weapons. He offered help with photos, here and at other stops. When prompted he could talk in depth about other films. If you're a Tolkien fan you'll surely enjoy this half day tour.

What a wonderful trip seeing many of the lord of the rings filming locations. Beautiful scenery and our guide did a fabulous job of sharing stories and facts about the locations. Highly recommend!

Our group of travelers enjoyed this 1/2 day trip to Glenorchy and all the stops in between w/ refreshments and fun times re-enacting scenes from LOTR. Dan our guide and safe driver made the whole trip fun and interesting with his anecdotes and insights into the filming locations. The beautiful weather made the whole experience the perfect day to enjoy Queenstown!

It’s an evenly paced half a day. Great fun & loads of information on LOTR & even some fun facts about other movies. The ride was enjoyable. Dan was friendly & fun to chat with. Even had the replica weapons & clothing that we used for photo ops in the forest. Listened to LOTR music on the way back to Queenstown. Love from Trinidad & Tobago 🇹🇹

Our guide Dan took us on a LOTR trip we will never forget. He was so rich in telling us insights / anecdotes about the making of the movies. It was funny and very interesting. Time passed by to quick. What a perfect idea to take this trip and wgat a luck to have Dan as our guide. We can highly recommend this excursion😘👍

This was fun and geeky! However, what I kept telling The Wife, this is a wonderful way to see more of the beautiful country. And it was. The guide was very insightful. the 'dress up' at end was a fun perk but again, it really was about seeing so much of the landscape.

If you love LOTR this tours puts you right where it was filmed. The scenery is awesome. We went on a rainy day but our guide Martin did his best to make it a pleasant tour.

Great tour of locations where LOTR movies (and other movies) were and are being filmed. Our tour guide Tristan was a fantastic guide - obviously a LOTR fan! He took us to beautiful spots where scenes were filmed and explained what scenes and views were used in the films. He explained how the backdrop of the sites were used in the filming. At the end we were given the opportunity to do some role playing with costumes and “weaponry” from the films, including Himli’s ax, and swords from orcs, Aragon, Arwen, Eowyn, and Gandalf. Great fun! It was cool today and overcast but his delightful personality brightened up the day. I went with 3 women from our tour group and we had a fantastic time! He was very helpful with myself and another lady who had done walking concerns.

Tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and very entertaining. The scenery was incredible and the backstory history of the movie trilogy was very interesting.

The tour was excellent. Tristan, our driver/guide, knew a lot about Lord of the Rings trivia and applied it to the locations where we stopped. He made the tour extremely interesting. And he even threw in some location information about where some X-Men movies were filmed. I highly recommend this tour to LOTR fans.

Tristran was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide who explained how each location we stopped off at, explaining how each scene was delevoped and produced for the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. His background knowledge was excellent.

This was the afternoon part of my full day LOTR tour, with guide Dan, who was very lovely, knowledgeable about interesting facts all things LOTR and really fun too! The group was quite small and seeing all these cool filming locations was really amazing!! Loved the tour and highly recommend it to anyone who loves LOTR and nature. We had a fantastic LOTR Scenic Tour - Half Day with Tristan! The scenery was amazing, and Tristan is a true Lord of the Rings expert, sharing lots of interesting behind-the-scenes stories. Even our daughters, who hadn’t seen the movies, really enjoyed the tour. At each filming location, Tristan showed us the original movie scene in a booklet, which was perfect for comparing the locations and taking photos. Dressing up was another fun highlight! Tristan took great care of us, including a lovely stop with cookies, coffee, tea and hot chocolate. A fun and interesting tour – highly recommended!

Dan was so awesome! He knows everything about LOTR. I’m such a fan so I’m impressed about his knowledge and some secret spots and which better pictures to take to copy the LOTR scenes. You’re so awesome Dan! Worth the money booked this tour and look for him.

A fantastic 4.5hours spent learning about Lord of the Rings and the filming of it in this area of new Zealand. Local history was also told. Mini van of tourists made the trip comfortable and enjoyable. BUT the best part of the whole experience was our tour guide...Dan.... knowledgeable ...fun..helpful .and a good driver. He served refreshments and a snack also. Dressing up in coustume was also fun. Super job well done Dan.. The locations are worth it even if you’re not a LOTR fan. The deep knowledge of your LOTR guide adds another layer. Regular well paced stops and plenty of information in between, including many back stories to the movies. Tristan was great and we felt very looked after. The opportunity to dress up and acquire some memorabilia was another bonus. ‘It is mine to give to whom I will’. Thank you Tristan
