It was so cool watching the kiwis run around. They were bigger than I thought. The rest of the grounds were pretty.
Because we were staying in Queenstown proper, the walk to Kiwi Park was short and scenic. Upon entry we were greeted by friendly staff who directed us to the kiwi presentation. After the very professional and informative lecture, we entered the darkened room where the kiwis were kept. It took some time to get acclimated to the darkness (kiwis are nocturnal), and, after a few minutes of fruitless search, suddenly what looked to be a ball of fur with a long beak appeared - a kiwi! Very satisfying to have seen a kiwi and to know that we had contributed to their conservation.
great way to spend a couple of hours wandering the park, kiwi experience was good, very informative staff and got to see a real kiwi
It was a great park, the entrance was fantastic, then you walk further and it opens up. Im not sure about the bee hives out the front where you walk past, this may scare some. They’re not too close but you’re not expecting them. The kiwi experience was awesome and so was the conservative show.
Having visited other sanctuaries and parks around the world, my wife and I were excited at the prospect of visiting Kiwi Park. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the least noteworthy attraction of our South Island tour. Most disappointing for us was the Kiwi Encounter. The 2pm group seemed quite large. The guide explained that it would take a while for our eyes to adjust to the nocturnal house. However once adjusted, it was still too dark to see anything but a fleeting silhouette. There were just 3 birds, the female of which remained hidden. Once a bird was spotted, groups of pushy tourists crammed around the glass walls making it impossible to see anything. Perhaps large sessions need to be further broken down into staggered mini groups. As a feature attraction, it was for us very underwhelming. Frustrated, we exited the session early whilst other likeminded guests took our cue. Walking around the rest of the small park it was hard to be impressed by the other enclosures containing a very small number of endangered, vulnerable and non-threatened birds and wildlife. The intention of this review is not to denigrate Kiwi Park in any way. Like others here, we absolutely applaud the focus on conservation, rehabilitation and protection of native species. We are happy that our entry fees will support those efforts and regard the fee as a worthy donation. However, many other parks do the same, and for us the anticlimax was how few species are on exhibit. Kiwi Park has just 20 native bird and reptile species. In comparison Bali Bird Park has 1300 birds across 250 species, Currumbin Sanctuary has 400 birds across 75 species and Melbourne’s Healesville Sanctuary has around 800 birds across 200 species. If your focus is conservation and/or you want to see endangered species otherwise hard to see in the wild, then Kiwi Park will be of interest. But for casual visitors like us, anticipating a visual experience and variety, Kiwi Park came up a little short.
What a great experience in Queenstown! I would highly recommend the Kiwi park as an activity to do while visiting. It is a more relaxed quieter experience, but the park is very well run and the grounds are beautifully set out and landscaped. The conservation show was excellent and the Kiwi encounter equally so. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and I encourage everyone to visit! I have fallen in love with the kiwi!
Cute little stop near the gondola and a great chance to learn more about kiwis. Only takes an hour or two.
What a fantastic experience in Queenstown, a change from the fast, thrillseeking activities that seem to lure the tourists here, the Kiwi park is just a lovely, calm experience in a beautiful setting. It was so awesome to see Kiwi up close, as well as all of the other native birds. Handsdown a highlight of our day!
The experience was amazing! We love the park. It is very knowledgeable and we learn a lot about birds and how different species are taken cared of for their survival in the nature. We enjoyed looking at kiwis, different birds. Everything. The show was also must see. It helps us understand them.
Great wildlife park! Many chances to get close to some incredible NZ birds and animals. Their Kiwi exhibit is stunning!
All well organised We enjoy day
We did this activity because our other tour fell through but this activity was super nice and fun. It's much cheaper to buy tickets through Viator than through the main website. When we got there, one of the conservation talk show just started (11:30) so we joined. It was nice listening to a staff talk about the local animals and showing some to us. We then made our way to the 12:15 kiwi encounter session towards the back of the park. Please note you cannot use your phones nor cameras because kiwis are nocturnal animals and can be frightened by the lights. When it was time, we went into the dark room and got to see 4 kiwis behind glass panels. Then we simply explored the entire park. Some animals like reptiles were hibernating since it's winter and cold here. Overall it was a nice visit other than the fact we couldn't take pictures of the kiwis but they have QR codes with professional pictures taken so it was still good. The staff were all friendly and it was a nice and relaxing visit that lasted about 2 hours. A must visit for animal lovers for a quiet and relaxing activity!

Privately run and doing their bit to save the Kiwi, didn't mind the entrance fee as for a good cause. So Kiwi houses and we saw 2 Kiwi. Other bird houses look a bit tired though.
Staff were very informative and friendly. We enjoyed the close encounter show and seeing native NZ birds up close. Set in a beautiful sanctuary.
Was very clean and facitiy was updated nicely...staff were freindly and loads of accessable infirmation
It was bit pricy that we only stay 2.5 hrs but it was good to know about kiwi . It was quite educational experience for my 9 yrs daughter
We were delighted to see so many birds and reptiles. And the highlight is the kiwis. You cannot take personal photos but we did ask via their page to send some and they did! A few things I was concerned about was that the Kārearea was in a small area and these birds fly high and long distances. Maybe it’s injured , I don’t know. Be interesting to know. The preschool next door is so loud, so don’t expect a peaceful Stroll! I felt for the birds too! In saying this, I think the group are doing a great job.
must see to view the kiwi birds, very educational and beautiful walk through the park. Honey tasting is great oo!
Kiwis are amazing creatures and boy do they move fast. A chance to see them in their natural habitat was a privilege and a pleasure. But don’t miss the talk on conservation as you get to come close to some of New Zealand’s other amazing creatures.
This was a great little park where we got to see the endangered kiwi. It was fun to learn about them as well as quite a few other birds and reptiles. The park is hidden and can be accessed on the way to the Skyline gondolas. Easy walking distance from town center. We thought it was worth the time.
Came here 8 years ago and returned here recently on our last day in Queenstown to kill some time. Still a great family-run and owned business with some beautiful birds and a great Kiwi encounter. The conservation show was really informative and the kids loved it, especially with the appearance of a tuatara. So glad it still exists and is still as lovely as I remember. Hope it continues for many years to come!
Had a great time seeing the birds and tuatara! I also really enjoyed the gift shop and cafe. Great place to go for a relaxing morning. Great for anyone and very child-friendly place.
It was amzing to see Kiwi birds up close and lear more about wildlife and conservation.
Had no idea kiwis were nocturnal before arriving in New Zealand and this sanctuary was a lucky find as they take their valuable conservation work very seriously. Saw a small sign on the way up to the cable car and visited after ice creams on our return. Very impressed with all the staff and their presentations on the wildlife in their care. It was magic to see the kiwis up close (protected by a glass screen) going about their normal business. If you are happy to keep very quiet and just observe these amazing creatures are fun to watch. It was possible to go into the accommodation block again and again if you wanted to spend more time there. Lots of other interesting indigenous animals to see and an amusing presentation about those who have arrived like possums and rats which are less welcome.
Only downside is that you can’t use a camera in the kiwi house
Very good information and the kiwi so beautiful show good with the birds , loved the geckos as well .
Finally got to see some kiwis! Beautiful nature park right in the city.
Loved Kiwi Park. Seemed a bit expensive but good value. Lots to see. We spent 3 hrs there.
This is quite an expensive way to see a Kiwi. Really that was the only thing worth seeing so make sure that you are there when there is a viewing experience. You can only see the Kiwis in the dark so you go into a dark room with a guide. But very expensive for what you do - the only consolation is that it goes to preservation work.
The Kiwi park was engaging and had a range of cool birds and reptiles, I personally felt like the price did not reflect what was available at the park. It being expensive expensive for what was on offer. I appreciated the knowledge of the staff and felt like their educational talks were engaging.
First time to see the cute Kiwi birds and other New Zealand native birds, the people working here are very professional, and the entire park is very well maintained, good job
This is a really great way to see and learn about many of the indigenous species of NZ. Of course there were kiwis and this is a rare opportunity to see them. But also the kea, tuatora and other birds were amazing. Highly recommend the conservation program to learn about what they are doing to protect these birds and reptiles from extinction. All 5 of us loved the place more than we thought we would!
Excellent facility and animal knowledge. Immersive viewing of live kiwis in their natural habitat was the he highlight of the visit.
It was a lovely visit. The staff were knowledgeable and the birds - especially kiwi and kea were beautiful.
No photos or Videos of Kiwi! The area is nice and you can see native birds close, but not too much. Just strolling around are short ways.
If you have any interest in New Zealand critters, this is time well spent. Don't miss the Kiwi house or the gamekeepers' talk.
It was a lovely experience like walking through a garden. If you like birds and nature, it the trip for you. I have bird watching my entire trip to New Zealand, and through my visit to Kiwi Park I was able to see the elusive birds that I didn’t want to miss.
It was fantastic to be able to see the Kiwis up close! Only a sheet of glass separated us. Fascinating birds and Kiwi park display them very well with a great knowledgeable guide talking through the information
Such a wonderful thing to see the kiwi up close, very active scurrying about, especially compared to Auckland Zoo.
Great place to see many of NZ’s amazing endemic bird species up close. Loved seeing the kiwis, weka, and keas especially
Well organized, informative experience in a lovely setting. One of the few places to actually see a kiwi. The guide was awesome! The conservation show is so interesting with a presentation of the history of wildlife in NZ. Several birds and mammals shown. Great for all ages.
When I came to visit NZ, I wanted to see a kiwi! This park delivered. It had many other birds and wildlife. The Tuatara was my second favorite. I was disappointed I couldn’t get a photo but understandable.
It was every educational to see the native birds of New Zealand and learn about the efforts to increase the kiwi population and release them back into the wild
Great exhibits allow you to get up close, multiple Kiwi displays, beautiful garden! Well priced with a good gift shop
A great experience. It is quite expensive, however, it is invested back into the park as they don't get any other funding from the government. The animals have lovely enclosures and all look healthy and well cared for. The shows are great and very informative. It was great to see the kiwis too.
Good to support Kiwi House and go visit this place. I learned a lot about animals of New Zealand. Recommend.
Seeing the Kiwis up close in the nocturnal houses was breathtaking, they were mesmerising to watch. The talks were great to listen to and very informative. Lovely visit
We were extremely happy with our experience at Kiwi Park Queenstown. It was one of the highlights of our trip to New Zealand! We did the Kiwi Encounter and the Conservation Show. Both were very informative and entertaining. Then we walked around the park and saw a lot of the animals/birds that we had heard about. We are a family of 5 - ranging from 35 to 70 years old.
