A fantastic way to explore Queenstown’s wine region! 🍷 We had such a lovely day on the Hop On Hop Off wine tour. The bus was efficient and right on time, and our driver was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and helpful throughout the day. It’s such a fun and easy way to visit multiple wineries around the region without the hassle of organising your own transport. We got to see some beautiful spots, enjoy some great wine and simply relax and enjoy the day. Highly recommend!
Fantastic wine tour with Mitch as our guide/driver couldn’t have been better. Awesome weather great small group and Mitch was fantastic with all info and getting us around
Unfortunately, our experience on this wine tour was quite disappointing. We were picked up at 10:30am, but most of the wineries weren’t open until 12pm, which made the early start feel unnecessary. The driver was also very rude and frequently made comments about everything we said, which made the atmosphere uncomfortable. Conversation with the driver was difficult, and we didn’t feel particularly welcome or relaxed during the trip. There was also no water provided on the bus, which was disappointing given that we were spending several hours on the tour. Overall, the tour did not meet our expectations, particularly in terms of the organisation and the driver’s attitude.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had the most amazing day with Mitch from Hop on Hop off Wine Tours in Queenstown! 🍷🏔️ Mitch was absolutely fantastic — friendly, fun, knowledgeable and genuinely made the whole experience so enjoyable. He had the perfect balance of keeping everyone entertained while making sure we got to experience the best of what Queenstown’s wine region has to offer. You could tell Mitch genuinely loves what he does, and his energy and personality made such a difference to our day. He went above and beyond to make sure everyone was having a great time, and we felt so well looked after from start to finish. If you’re booking a Hop on Hop off tour in Queenstown, definitely ask for Mitch! He was one of the highlights of our trip and made the day one we’ll be talking about for a long time. 🍷🥂 Mana Wave Thanks so much, Mitch — you’re an absolute legend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The trip was great. The instructions of where to meet were a bit vague. It would have been clearer if we had been told to just meet the bus on the street. We weee searching through The Station building looking for a meeting point. We loved the scenery etc but found ourselves worrying about when the bus would come to the pick up points. Had we missed it? Was it late? Do we just stand here and wait? Still a great and fairly inexpensive way to see the countryside. LOVED Ayrburn!
Nice afternoon out at some beautiful places. Did the half day tour and squeezed in 4 stops. The bus was very efficient and came every 50 minutes so it felt a bit rushed but waiting for the one after felt a bit too long. Could do with having a full hour at each place so you could relax a little bit and maybe have a glass of your fav wine after the tasting session. But otherwise lovely. Thanks to Sam our driver.
Pete the driver was great. Super informative and funny. Awesome. But the overall cost for what amounts to a bus on a repeating loop is a bit of a downer. This is not your big city style hop on hop off setup where a bus comes along every few minutes. Rather, it's more like taking the city bus across town. You need to be at the pickup point at the scheduled pickup time, or you're waiting 40-60 minutes until the one and only bus comes around on its next loop. This overall is an okay option for two people, but for 3 or more you're better off renting a car for the day, in my opinion, and designate a driver.
We thought we'd decide, which vinyards to go to, once we were on the bus... Do your research before time and make a flexible plan. It was a fun day with a great driver/guide.
Great trip. We had Frasier for all of our pick ups. Easy to plan and hit all of our wanted locations.
I had a group of 12 people and I decided to book a bus for a private tour. One of the highlights of our trip was the bus driver Pete. Pete was funny, very knowledgeable and an all round nice guy. For this, I will give 5 stars!!
Pete was an amazing bus driver he helped us get to everywhere we wanted to go. Even when we were getting our destinations mixed up. Especially the church for a relaxed vibe at the end of the day. He was super helpful and really nice! This is a perfect way to see the amazing wineries in QT!
As a hop-on hop-off service, you would expect full flexibility regarding start and end times. In reality, there is only one bus in the morning, with a second added in the afternoon, which leaves no real alternative for return times to Queenstown. The only scheduled return to town is around 5:00 pm, which is very limiting. This information is not clearly stated when purchasing tickets online, and as a result we had to pay NZD 90 for an Uber to return to town at 3:00 pm. Aside from this issue, the driver was very friendly and helpful.
Once you get on you stay there until the end of day. Just be prepared. Fun day, nice wineries. If you like wine, this is for you 😀
It was easy to get off our huge ship, get in to Picton and get on this pre booked tour. The range of places it visited was much more varied than just wine places. Drivers were knowledgeable and friendly. We did have to deal with people who don't understand queueing, but as there were plenty and frequent buses it wasn't a problem.
First, let me start by saying, our driver Keri made the tour one of the best we have taken. She was personable, helpful and when an issue went sideways at our first stop, she handled it with grace & humour. Her recommendations on what to do and see were spot on. This the second hop on hop off wine experience and it did not disappoint! Do it, you will not regret it.
great tour, drivers went out of their way to help us! good way to see different parts of queenstown and good wineries
We did the half day tour & would recommend! Loved: - Both drivers (Kerry & George) - Mt Rosa (1 - small great vibe), Nockies Palette (2 - beautiful views & scenery), the Winery in Arrowtown (3 - so fun to dispense the wine ourselves and I think a really fun way to start), Gibson Valley (4 - could take or leave but I think it’d be better if we did a formal tour with them) - we fit in 4 stops! Felt like we made good use of our time. Tour ended approx 5-5:15pm. - drivers offered to call and make bookings for tasting when we got on the bus - bus very comfy, not super windy or bumpy Of Note: - you get a timetable & map immediately upon getting on the bus. You need to be a bit flexible with the wineries you go to since you don’t have access to it beforehand. There must be some reason they don’t give it out but 🤷🏼♀️ - the stops are approximately 50mins so it’s fast!! You would definitely need to spend two spots for lunch in order to have enough time to get your food & eat it. Since we were the halfway, we ate beforehand and had plenty of time to get a cheeseboard, bread, fries, etc during one stop Overall really fun & would do again!
The driver for the half day tour (I think his name was George) was great - provided excellent recommendations, played great music, funny and prompt on pickup times. Met other travelers and had a great time exploring different wineries and having the freedom to choose where to go.
Had such a good day on this tour. The bus was easy to find, the driver was friendly and the whole vibe was relaxed. We got to hop on and off without any rush, and each winery had its own charm. Great views, great wine, great energy. Perfect way to spend an afternoon in Queenstown.
Great way to go winetasting from Queenstown. George was our driver and ne was absolutely incredible. Very knowledgeable and made sure everybody got to where they needed to be at the right time.
We had an incredible experience with the Queenstown HOHO bus! We’ve done a few of these experiences in Aus and now NZ, what a blast. Such a great way to see so many wineries covering the region in Otago (without the worry of having to drive or rely on lifts!). Our driver was amazing, friendly & very great at communicating the schedule. We even got a personalised service drop off in Arrowtown (where we were staying) given it was a quieter day. thank you so much to the Hoho team! We will be recommending to all travelling to Queenstown!
This was a great experience. Having the option to visit whichever wineries or taverns we wanted to was convenient as we could sample different locations without having to give it much thought. Our driver was fantastic and offered lots of information and recommendations about each stop.
It's a really fun wine tour! You can pick from 23 different stops and you can go to a maximum of 6 of them if you hop back on the bus every time it comes back. The only restriction is you can't go backwards on the list, but there are two stops that repeat. Most places have snacks and a few of the stops are taverns with full menus. My top 3 spots were: Mt Rosa: Had the best wine in several styles. The staff was really friendly and fun to chat with while walking through all of their wines. Nockies Palette: Easily the best scenery of the wineries. It's run by a painter and the whole place is laid out in a storybook/fairy tale style. Their wines are good too with the standout being an amazing Chardonnay. The Winery Arrowtown: Not actually a winery, it's a big tasting room with a bunch of automated wine dispensers so you can try a lot of things in small samples or get full glasses of the ones you like. You could almost do a wine tour with just this place.
You definitely should get the full day tour. Some wineries are a good way out of town. The driver, George, was outstanding, on time and entertaining.
Throughly enjoyed our day. Went to Aryburn, Nockies and Gibbston wines all excellent. Drivers were lovely. We will be back 😍
Had the best time and highly recommend and the best wines have ever tasted!! Best weather and perfect scenery very knowledgeable driver!
A fantastic way to see Arrow Town, Ayrburn and as many wineries, gin bars, breweries at your own pace. You can spend the min time at a destination or wait , have lunch and some drinks and get picked up on the second time slot and carry on until 5.30 when you are dropped back to the meeting place . Peter our driver was on time every time and was a great source of information. I would 100% recommend this trip. Best day!
Wonderful day out and worked like a dream. We picked this tour as one off us had done it before, more choices thsn any other tour. We went for the afternoon did Canyon, Aryburn 2x stops and then Brennan and back to town, fabulous day out. Drivers were great.
This was a great day out. I loved the itinerary and the craic was great. I’d definitely recommend to anyone who wants to really explore the area.
Pete, our driver, had plenty of local information which was relevant and interesting. Ayrburn was our favourite winery and Arrowtown was such a quaint place to visit with great coffee
This was a fantastic tour! Without it, I think I would have missed a lot while in South Island. George our driver was great company, the beauty of this region is beyond explanation. I stopped in Arrowtown, The Church and Airfield, I wanted to stop in Frankton thinking it was a different town but it was just Queenstown again. So I passed. It was the most unforgettable birthday ever. A lovely farmer allowed me to see his sheeps and cows in one of the stops. My conversation and the animals were an experience I won't forget.
Got picked up at Arrowtown at 9.55am. Checked out the museum and surrounding site seeing spots before being picked up. Headed to Ayrburn for my first stop. Really really beautiful place. Had a good Cinnamon roll and coffee at the bakehouse. Next stop was Nockie's Palette. Fantastic winery. The GSM was my overall favorite to drink. Spent several hours there drinking wine talking to staff. Definitely a must vist place. After Nockie's Palette went to Kinross to sample some more delicious wine. View was great everyone was enjoying themselves. Back to Queenstown while enjoying the view and talking to other guests. Great day. Great view. Great Wines. Great Vibes.
Overall, this is a nice way to get around to the wineries, and also stop at Arrowtown and the Bungy Jump to watch the jumpers. Be aware that the bus only goes ONE WAY. It's not like many Hop On/Hop Off buses that have several buses running at one time and you can get off and on for just a few minutes even. Each stop is about an hour, which is a good length of time for most wine tastings. It does mean that you'll likely only do 4 or 5 stops in a day, and don't miss stopping at the ones you want as you get to them. You won't be back. Our driver George was awesome and was basically our personal chauffer for the 5 of us on the bus. We had a tire blow out on the highway and he handled it expertly. Luckily we were near Gibbston Tavern, so 3 of us walked there for a beer! Just another travel adventure
Booked a private tour for 14 people. Company was easy to deal with.. great advice on where to go etc., bus driver Rob was friendly and knowledgeable. Would recommend when you visit Queenstown.
Great experience the staff worked extra hard to accommodate our schedule. Hop on hop off wine tours is highly recommended.
Third time doing this tour, find it absolutely brilliant each time, the drivers are always helpful and being able to see multiple venues throughout the day makes for an amazing day out.
Great way to visit wineries very well organised drop off and pick ups, and options to choose which ones to visit and how long to stay. George our driver was fantastic and provided great tips
We booked the Hop on Hop off tour hoping to get more of a taste of New Zealand’s craft beer scene and we were not disappointed. Peter was engaging and interesting and helped to customize our tour based on our preferences and interests. In our half-day tour we stopped 5 great beer places, 2 breweries and 3 taverns with great local beer selections. Fun way to spend a day in Queenstown!
Great way to get around the area. Best to plan out your stops ahead of time as you can only get in around 4 stops for the day. Our driver George was very helpful.
The drivers, Pete and Rob, were fabulous! They gave information on the history and the area. Great sense of humor and just loads of fun!
Booked a full day beginning at 10:30 am. Bus was on time! Nice way to see the wine region without having to worry about drinking and driving. The only downside is that you have to keep a close eye on the time so you don’t miss the bus pickup. We were able to fit in Arrowtown and five wineries but it felt very rushed. We bought a sandwich in Arrowtown and ate it later in the day.
Booked from Picton and most of the wineries didn’t offer wine tours. No information on the bus, no commentary. Basically a waste of money.
What a great day! The schedule is easy to understand, the drivers were polite and informative and I loved the stops I chose. Highly recommend for seeing a lot around the Queenstown area, and not having to drive. Arrowtown, Ayburn, Amisfield and Kinross were all lovely to visit, eat and drink wine.
Great tour. We had Pete as driver and was excellent and very knowledgeable. Gave us an opportunity to taste wine, eat cheese and have a good look around. Loved Arrowtown
Need to be given more suggestions on planning when and where to get off and for how long The driving was so fast because of the timetable and not enjoyable
The hop on hop off wine bus was the best way to experience New Zealand’s beautiful wine country, without the hassle of a potential DUI! We did a little bit of research beforehand and went to Amisfield (best wine), Gibbston Valley Winery and Brennans (beautiful orange wine!). The stop in Arrowtown for an explore was also a great way to ease into a day of wine drinking. Hot tip: we saw a newly opened winery across from Brennans called Waitiri Creek and what a surprise it was! It wasn’t on the list, but had the best views of the whole day and brilliant staff. The Chardonnay and Pinot noir is the pick of the bunch. If you’re on the tour, don’t skip this one just because it’s not on the map.
Had a brilliant day looked after and lead by George our driver. Good banter and informative information needed throughout the day to get the most value and memorable experience (keeping wine filled adults must be hard at times lol).
Bus driver was fantastic, she gave a great commentary and was very helpful. I would definitely recommend
The wineries were great. Just wasn't a big fan of the bus. It was continually running about 10+ minutes late which doesn't seem like a big deal but when you only get about 40 minutes at a vineyard, 10-15 minutes really cuts it down quite a bit. The drivers were pretty snippy to all on the bus. But, it was a very economical way to get to the vineyards if you don't have a car.
