Our guide Hanna informed us well about certain LOTR movie locations we visited with her. The trip did meet our expectations.

Had a wonderful morning tour with Hayden. Pickup was convenient and seamless and our group was small, making the experience more personalized and comfortable. I quite enjoyed all the little stops we made on our way to Glenorchy & Paradise, it was nice to break up the trip and witness firsthand some locations where the movies were filmed. Hayden has excellent knowledge of the behind-the-scenes involved in the making of the movies, and he shared a lot of fascinating insight about the native plants and animals, too. His wonderful sense of humor made the tour feel not only informative but also fun! He also expertly maneuvered the vehicle for some thrilling river crossings and exciting off-roading. The tour ran from around 8 am - 12 pm. I wish I had booked a full day tour; it is well worth the money for such an unforgettable experience. Thank you Hayden and Nomad Safaris!
Our family of four really enjoyed our trip with Angelo. He was informative and interesting and so much fun! We all took several LOTR photos opportunities (my 21 year old took a couple of photos from the Wolverine movie as well!). We were lucky enough to have great weather too. Highly recommend.
Brilliant morning tour with stops along Lake Wakatipu, in Glenorchy and in Paradise valley and the forest.
Friendly and knowledgable tour guide. He took time at each film location to go over the background information and camera angles. At the flooded Isengard film location, he brought some props to dress us up as a wizard/hobbit for pictures! Highly recommend.
Awesome tour! Peter was very upbeat and knowledgeable… not only about the LOTR but also local info. We had a great time and would recommend this to anyone.
The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly, and he did pick us up from our hotel. However, there were no drinks or snacks provided which was advertized and shown in the picture. They said the tour could be cancelled due to bad weather but despite heavy rain, the tour went on and it was too late for us to cancel and get a refund. With the heavy rain, you could not see much from many of the sites. The view of the mountains was completely washed out and we froze in the cold rain.
If you want to see all the places that were used to film Lord of the Rings, do it with this company Ask for Fin Was so
We had the best half day tour with Nomad Safaris. Our guide Justin was the best- we talked about LOTR books and movies, filming locations, other movies filmed in the area, general history about Queenstown and the surrounding areas, etc. He went above and beyond to get the best photos for us to bring home and was great to have as a guide. We were served biscuits, banana bread, and options of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate at one of our last stops. We then had the opportunity to put on elven cloaks and do some pretend sword fighting where the battle of Isengard was filmed. We were dropped off in Glenorchy, and Justin again gave us wonderful recommendations for lunch and what to do for a couple of hours until our afternoon adventure. We would absolutely book another tour for different filming locations if we go back to Queenstown.
A great tour! We got to see several of the locations where the LOTR was filmed and even act out a couple of scenes. And the tour was also great for fabulous scenery and informative information on the history of the Queenstown and Glenorchy region in addition to LOTR lore.
We thoroughly enjoyed this tour, both from the commentary of our guides, Justin and Ellen, on Lord of the Rings lore, and also for the spectacular scenery and information on the history of the Queenstown area. We highly recommend this tour.
Great tour of LOTR film shooting locations. Tour guide should not let a guest on the tour dominate the tour discussion.
We really enjoyed the Four Wheel Drive Lord of the Rings tour to Glenorchy. The drive to Glenorchy and beyond is absolutely breathtaking and one of the most beautiful scenic routes. We stopped a few times along the way to take in the views before continuing through the small settlement of Paradise, where we were able to see several filming locations from The Lord of the Rings as well as other movies. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable, which made the tour enjoyable. I had imagined there might be even more detailed information about the film productions themselves, but overall it was still a very pleasant and memorable afternoon in a stunning landscape.
So much information, beautiful and stunning scenery and real insights into LOTR production . South African Ben, Bengy, really knew his stuff and not just about LOTR. We visited Arrowtown and learnt about the gold and Chinese workers, saw the bungy jump bridge from across the valley - fab tour - would heartily recommend. Only minus - what happened to the cakes, Ben ? You mentioned coffee and cakes at the outset, but, the cakes failed to appear ! Ring of invisibility?
Michael was an excellent tour guide, telling us all about the flora and fauna of the area. He had a lot of jokes for us and took great pictures of the different areas: Dan’s Paddock, Mount Crichton trail etc. This was our last tour in Queenstown but second Nomad Safaris tour. Definitely recommend if you’re a LOTR fan. This time we were joined by two other couples that booked the trip so we had a full vehicle. The scenery was stunning of course. Great bang for your buck with tea, coffee, banana bread & biscuits break.
This trip was fantastic. As a Lord of the Rings enthusiast, this is a must. Our guide Tom was very knowledgeable and helpful. The scenery was incredible even without Lord of the Rings, but it was very cool seeing where everything was filmed. I didn't realise how much was filmed in the Queenstown/Glenorchy area, it was great. The weather was good and it was clear, so we had a lovely view overlooking the lakes and the Remarkable Mountains (that is actually what they are called). It was just me and my parents on this trip so it was a nice crowd size, and Tom (guide) was making jokes and informing us about the scenes and where we visited, as well as providing local information about the area. I would very much recommend this activitiy
Incredible tour to Lord of the Rings filming locations with Finley. Great locations + great introductions by our guide. Highly recommend it!
Beautiful scenery, we had a perfect day. Jodi was very friendly and helpful. I forgot my apple watch near Paradise village, but they found it and brought back to the city. Cannot be more thankful!!
Finn was the best!!!! This tour was one of my favorites in my lifetime. It was a beautiful day filled with astonishing beauty at every turn! Laughter filled the jeep as we cruised down the road stopping at many scenic views. Thank you for a wonderful experience Finn! 🤩
It was a fun outing. Beautiful scenery, lots of windy driving, but all part of the experience. We enjoyed the tea break. Our guide was an amazing driver!
Our guide and driver, Finlay, was excellent. It was fascinating to learn about how the locations were used and adapted to create continuity and a fantasy landscape. Also to learn about the filmakers' use of extras. Nice snack too.
Had a great afternoon on the Glenorchy tour with Dan. He had lots of interesting facts about the LOTR film locations and we had fun dressing up and acting out some fight scenes
Kelsey (our driver) was fantastic and made this trip one to remember(despite the unpleasant receptionists). This trip is exceptional even if you are not a LOTR fan.
On a beautiful day with crystal blue sky and a few puffy white clouds, the green fields and trees of Glenorchy contrasted beautifully with the soaring mountains behind sprinkled with snow. Jaw on floor moment. Phoebe was a wonderful guide - very considerate for me as I had injured my knee and couldn’t walk quickly. Fun, engaging and informative, I learned plenty about life in Queenstown as well as the fascinating stories behind the filming of Peter Jackson’s masterpiece. Nomad are famous for this stuff for a reason. Not to be missed.
Great tour guide and a wonderful trip. Telaxed pace snd stunning drive ftom Wueenstown to Glenorchy. Must do if LOTR fan.
Our driver/guide, Nick was excellent. I enjoyed the tour. The weather and scenery were amazing as well. Compared to Mount Sunday/Edoras, this tour has more stops, but many of them are more “look over there for something that was in part of a shot” and less immersive, if that makes sense. Still worth doing, but maybe not as high on the list as I was expecting)
AMAZING TOUR!!! We had Micheal as our tour guide and he did a PHENOMENAL job narrating our stops, adding comedy to the narrative, stoping at views and giving an inside into the culture in New Zealand. On the tour we -stopped and at various locations where Lord of the Rings was filmed -Arrow town -Off roading on a river and panning for gold -Skippers road (great views) Prefect half day tour HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
Had such a great time doing the half day LOTR tour with Aiden. He was very friendly and really knowledgeable on LOTR and New Zealand. Excellent way to get out and about and see some beautiful spots close to Queenstown!
If you love the movies, you will love a peak behind the camera. This tour will take you to famous scenes. Listen to the guides tell you how the scenes were set.
Our guide (Jenny (if my memory is correct, sorry if not)), did an excellent job of showing us the different locations despite the inclement weather. She was very enthusiastic, and knowledgeable. She told stories of the filming but also of her life and how they interacted. She worked hard to tailor the tour to the weather. The group all got on and chatted, so despite the views being obscured by mist and rain, we still had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Although the scenery was spectacular, our guide, Ginny, was excellent. Even if you aren’t a big fan of LOTR, this is a worthwhile trip.
I really enjoyed our Glenorchy Lord of the Rings tour today with our guide Michael. Knowledgeable, friendly, and really interesting to get insight to some of the local LOTR filming sites. Great for fans of the films to see where it all took place.
It was an unforgettable experience! A memory that will stay in my heart forever — a beautiful tour discovering the locations where some of the most famous scenes from The Lord of the Rings were filmed, accompanied by the guides’ descriptions and behind-the-scenes stories. All of this combined with an exciting off-road ride between the lakeside of Queenstown and the natural parks of Glenorchy. Our guide Jody was fantastic, answering all our questions and curiosities about the locations, the city, and New Zealand culture. Roger, the other guide, is a true expert in everything related to the film and cinema in general, having worked in the industry for years. Overall, it’s an experience I highly recommend to all fans of Tolkien’s and Peter Jackson’s works, but also to anyone who wants to discover New Zealand’s nature and admire breathtaking landscapes.
We had a wonderful tour with Jenny. With lots of information and insides from LOTR. Very nice conversations and super friendly. A super recommendation for every lotr fan and lovers of beautiful scenery.
Very good guide! She was very friendly and knowledgeable, both about Lord of the Rings as about many aspects of life in New Zealand
We loved our tour with Justin. He was incredibly funny, knowledgeable, and kind. We had a fantastic time touring around, taking photos, learning about both the area and even more about LOTR. Cannot recommend this tour or Justin enough!
Great locations and excellent tour guide knowledge.Kelsey made the tour fun and lots of laughs to be had by all. Having swords and cloaks to do a bit of role play with during our tour made it so much more fun.
Great experience. Jenny our driver and tour guide was really friendly and knowledgeable. Breathtaking scenery. So interesting to see where filming was done for The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.
This tour is great value - you get to see so many beautiful, scenic sites, but at the same time you also get a lot of fun stories about the movies filmed in these locations. A lot there for LoTR fans, but also many other films. Our tour guide Dan was very informative and friendly, he made for a great host.
The tour exceeded our expectations - our guide, Nick was amazing. He was friendly and warm - kept us and especially our kids engaged with LOTR facts and so many interesting facts about the landscape. We loved wearing the costumes and using the props for the memorable photograph/video session. The tour will be one of the top memories of our NZ trip!
Pick-up place : very easy to locate Staff: very friendly , Kudos to our guy Nicholas with his personal touch of banana cake, so delicious 😁and for keeping us safe & sound oh and entertained during the trip. Location: Scenic views ✅ Superb Must try.
The scenery on this trip is spectacular! Our guide pointed out plenty of interesting movie locations, and the mountains and forest were beautiful. Our driver was so friendly and knowledgeable. We forgot a charger on the vehicle, and everyone went out of their way to get it back to us the same day.
The guide was very enthusiastic, explained to us how the film was shot, took us to many places, took photos for us, chatted happily all the way, and finally gave us the Lord of the Rings weapons and cloaks, we had a very happy day.
Jenny was absolutely amazing. We had an incredible time and she made it so fun. She was also incredibly knowledgeable about the films, crew, and filming techniques, which made it an enriching experience. Her driving was tip-top as well! What a treat!
Jenny was our guide. She was fabulous, well informed on the Lord of the Rings sites and background. She was also very knowledgeable about New Zealand its trees, wildlife history, etc. One of the best guides we have on this trip. Highly recommend her and her tour.
Our travel guid nick was great. He knows just about every questions you can ask about new zealand. He took us to some beautiful locations and had alot of knowledge of the area
Nick was very personable, knowledgeable and accommodating. We had a great time being photographed in LOTR costumes. The tour exceeded our expectations in every way, even though we are not great LOTR fans.
Excellent, informative, well worth it, takes you to places your rental car can’t go Pick upon time from accommodation, excellent driver Dan, included many LotR sites with explanations, off roading along river beds, Arrowtown, Skipper’s Canyon and multiple viewpoint stops. Dan knew his stuff and was friendly considerate and funny. Definite recommendation!
A great day, Nick was an exceptional guide. Everyone had a great time and the group was super enjoyable to be with. Overall a great experience
Our experience was wonderful. Great info about LOTR but also lots of general info about the Queenstown area that added to our experience. Our guide, Gavin, was wonderful and exchanged lots of info about NZ issues as well as the NZ perspective on the wider world. We never thought that we would put on the costumes, but it actually was a lot of fun. Plus, we were unable to get reservations at Hobbiton, so this was our only Lord of the Rings experience in NZ and it was well worth it.
