Yesterday we took part in the 3.45pm winery tour, our guide was Guillaume who was just amazing! Very knowledgeable and showed us around the whole winery. Every staff member we saw and spoke to were very helpful and always had a smile on their face. We also had a cheese board and some extra wine which was very good value for money and of course tasted superb. Also a big thanks to George the winery’s bus driver who transferred us from and back to queenstown for the tour. Again he was very knowledgeable the whole trip telling us to look left and right out the windows to explain the scenery and history!

The hostess Melissa from Peru was very enthusiastic and very talkative and cleared all doubts....But some basic issues...The wine tasting inside the cave was done standing...The same glass was used for tasting all the wines..Should have been changed as the flavors get mixed..There were no snacks or drink to clean the palate. In wine tours we are to first sniff and enjoy the aroma and then the taste...Unfortunately the hostess did not do it....Overall a basic tour which should have been done seated and more elegantly...Looked like she was in a hurry looking at her watch many times....Most probably it was not Melissa's fault It must be the policy of the management
Solid day trip, Picked up from Queenstown (also had return) and then did a brief winery and wine cave tour before having the rest of the day on ebikes. Self guided cycle of the wineries nearby. Beautiful ride with cycle path. Mount Rosa, Kinross, Mount Edward and Gibbston’s all great wineries with tasting and food. Great day.
Comprehensive explanation of the winery and its expert production of fabulous wines in the South Island
La Pasamos bien! Una buena experiencia, buen vino, buena explicacion… the food was, good, but if you are planning to eat after the last tour, the restaurant is closed!
Such a nice experience on privilege tour. My wife and I certainly learned a lot about all wine history of the region. Quality and passion on how they build all stories related is touching. Thanks for the opportunity. To finalize, we had a very nice lunch with nice pairing wines.
Absolutely amazing experience! The wines were fantastic, the tour itself was unforgettable, and Jules was an outstanding guide — knowledgeable, fun, and full of energy. Couldn’t have asked for a better day!
Pick up and drop off was quick and easy, and George the driver was super friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The tour was really interesting, especially the wine cave, and Melissa the tour guide was great. Finished off with 4 wines to taste. Overall a fun and interesting experience.
Very informative and friendly winery tour guide. Very helpful wine selection staff - lovely venue. Only two - wife and myself - but was no trouble and had more personalised attention. Would highly recommend a visit to Gibbston Valley winery by all visiting Queenstown or Central Otago.
Nice place, accommodating people and good food to eat and drink. The food was great and the people were friendly and welcoming
A group of my friends and I went to Gibbston Valley today where we did a winery tour, explored the cave, and finished with a delicious three course lunch + wine pairing. Shona, Eliza, and Judit looked after us so well. Special mention to Callum for driving us to and from Queenstown!
Definitely take a tour, it is so interesting to know the history and how the wine is made! Had the best day with Alex showing us around! Thank you so much!
The tour was excellent, and Estelle was a brilliant guide. Estelle had good knowledge of the winery, we also signed up to the wine club.
Alberto was our guide and was very knowledgeable about the history of the region and the wines of course. Great guide and very well spoken. Highly recommend this tour and the of course the wines. Thanks Alberto for the tour! Great guide.
So glad we fit this into our time in Queenstown. Used the pickup service so that we could both partake fully in what they had to offer and happy we did! Jorge gave us lots of tips on what to do on the drive over (and also knew how to avoid the traffic). Sally was an amazing host for the winery tour and we learnt a lot about the history of Gibbston Valley. She is very knowledgeable and led us through the differences in the wines they produce. Couldn't help but work out how to fit a bottle in our bags for the flight the next day!
What a wonderfully informative tour. Our guide, Sally, was extremely knowledgeable about the history, growing, harvesting and making of the wine. I’m not a wine drinker but I learned so much and was fascinated by the process and the art/science that goes into wine making. Went with a family of wine drinkers if you are wondering why I was on a wine tour and not a wine drinker. Can’t say that I’ve become a wine drinker after the tour but I have profound appreciation for wine making and this vineyard in particular because the processes they use to make award winning wines.
Such a great experience! Short and sweet, and for a non-wine drinker, the wines were absolutely delicious!
The tour was amazing, our guide Minnie was really nice, the wines are magnificent and the environment pleasant, we have a lot of information and we enjoyed a lot.
An informative tour with an exceptional guide called Cathy. We visited from wanaka with family as a birthday treat while visiting family in NZ from UK. We all loved the tour and would highly recommend.
Really cool experience! We opted for a pickup from the CBD, and our driver, George, was so kind and pointed out some interesting places on the way to the winery. Highly recommend checking out the cheesery and have a meal at their restaurant (the quality of food is top notch). The wine tour itself was very informative and the wine cave is really cool (quite literally). Tasted 4 different types of wine, and it tasted so fresh.
Great experience! Loved the property, it was beautiful and the staff were all helpful. We had a winery tour with Catherine and she was really friendly and knowledgeable, helping us to understand more about the wine and the region. Would recommend!
It was a great tour and our guide Zack was fantastic and very knowledgeable. Jorge the driver was also fantastic and the customer service was amazing.
Unfortunately, my visit to Gibbston Valley was quite disappointing. I had high expectations based on the reputation of this vineyard, but the experience fell short in almost every way. No Real Tour – Just a Tasting: Despite being marketed as a tour, what we actually received was just a wine and cheese tasting. There was no tour of the vineyard, winery, or cellar, and absolutely no behind-the-scenes insights into the winemaking process, which was a major letdown. The whole experience felt very commercialized, and it didn’t live up to the immersive experience we were hoping for. Expensive and Not Worth It: The experience was overpriced for what was offered. We paid a premium price, but in return, we only got a few small pours of wine and some cheese, with little explanation or effort from the staff to make it feel special. For what they charge, I expected much more, including a proper tour and better service. Commercialized Feel: The whole thing felt very commercialized. The personal touch and passion you expect from a boutique vineyard were missing. Instead, it felt like we were just another group shuffled through quickly, with little care or attention to making it a memorable experience. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this experience. It’s overpriced and lacks the depth and personal touch that you would expect from a vineyard visit. If you’re expecting a true tour or insight into winemaking, you’ll be left disappointed. You can get much better wine-tasting experiences elsewhere in the region.
Very informative tour and tasting. We had e-bikes and also went to 2 other wineries in the area. We all had a great day out.
Such an amazing experience! The staff were so friendly and accomodating and our tour guide Zach was super knowledgeable and very happy to answer all of our questions. We loved the selection of wine we tasted and it was really interesting learning about the winery. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour and would happily go again! 100% recommend!!
This was our first wine tour and we didn't know what to expect. Our group of 8 ranged from 19 to 39yrs old and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Our guide was super informative and funny which set a more relaxed tone. The cellar was the highlight, with an interesting back story.
$25 wine tasting was a waste of time. Our group of six felt like we were rushed in that out of the place. The server seemed put out to describe the wines when asked. Worst of all, the tasting fee could not be applied to a wine purchase.
I had the pleasure of being with a group of American post graduate students from Virginia visiting the Gibbston Valley Winery as part of their stay here in Queenstown. We spent about 4 hours there, having lunch, listening to the professional and passionate Chris Keys talk about wine making and then touring the cave with Jake. The whole experience was so special and the way staff managed the visitor experience was benchmark "stuff." Thanks to all the wait staff as well as our guides Jake and Chris...a special day at a special place.
We had an amazing day at the winery. We booked a Winery tour including transport from Queenstown and it was perfect. Since we both could really enjoy the tastings (we ended up doing one extra tasting before the tour started) without worrying about driving. The hosts were wonderful and we learned a lot about their wines, which tasted amazing as well. We really enjoyed the tour and the day at the winery. 10/10 experience!
I took a solo day here and had a fantastic day. All the staff members are very informative and helpful. I did the wine cave and cheese tasting tour. Our host was able to explain everything well and appeared to have a passion for what he did. The wine is absolutely beautiful. Something for all tastes but the bubbles are a must try.
The whole package covered the pickup from the town, winery tour, and tasting. The driver George and the tour guide are amazing and considerate. They could answer all kinds of questions related to the town and the winery. The wine tasting can be customised based on our own preference, so we tasted 2 different Pinot Noir instead of rose. Thanks so much having us!
We loved our wine and cheese tasting. Our guide took us in the cave and explained all about the history of the vineyard, the area in New Zealand, all of the different wines they produce and co-produce, and how to pair wines with cheese. After our tour we had a wine flight and a cheese plate for lunch in their outside seating area. I highly recommend this place while visiting Queenstown.
Great tour host, who was knowledgeable and funny. He helped explain the winemaking process in an understandable way. Wonderful wine. Beautiful scenery. The wine cave is really cool.
Excellent tour with Brooke. She was very informative about the process of making the wine and we loved the wine tasting in the cave. We had a great time and included transport from Queenstown, which worked very well.
Friendly, informative & informative 1-hour tour of the vineyard, production area & large wine cave by an enthusiastic young guide Lucy.
Tasting was too fast (something like 3 minutes max per glass) without the classic see-smell-taste way but good explanation of the functioning of the property
Wonderful experience. Our guide, Lucy, was so knowledgeable and clearly loved her job and all things wine. She was so gracious in our questions and made the whole experience a joy. We bought several bottles of wine and she even gave us fabulous recommendations for dinner since the restaurant had already closed. The vineyard was beautiful and the wine cave so interesting. We tried 4 wines in the cave. Amazing experience. I can’t believe it was so inexpensive.
The cave tour was incredible, the wine is probably one of the tastiest we’ve had in the South Island, and the restaurant food is delicious - very worth a visit if you do the wine tasting/tour.
What an awesome place to sit in beautiful gardens and drink exsqusite wines and nibble on cheeses and chitneys.Highly recommend.
Booked for 2 and we were the only ones on this tour at that specific start time, which was excellent it ended up being a private tour with Maddie. She was very informative and well paced. Being the only ones on that tour, the cave experience was even more immersive an experience and wine tasting in the cave itself and all to ourselves was perfect. The pro.s of going to queenstown off peak. A good amount of crowd at the restaurants and seating outside, which were well set up. Very peaceful and would definitely recommend it. Dont forget to visit the cheese and deli shop. Amazing cheese.
The awesome lady there who hosted the wine tour was super friendly, informative and passionate! Answered every question we had and made the experience really great. Would recommend!
This is a gorgeous property with beautiful gardens, views and buildings. The cheesery is gorgeous. The wine cave is really amazing - loved our tastings in there. Very generous tastings with our tour group from Altitude - thank you for letting me sample those delicious bubbles. So glad we've got some of that on its way home. Excited you have a warehouse in Oz which makes shipping so so inexpensive. Loved our visit, look forward to seeing you again.
We stayed at the Gibbston Valley Lodge & Spa & decided to do a wine tour that included the caves. So worth it, Lucy was our guide & was so knowledgeable & we even got to try a couple of other wines on top of the 4 that were included. We have visited wine caves in Napa Valley & although Gibbston wine cave is smaller the history & story behind the winemaker & the location puts this on the list of wine caves to visit
A fantastic, must do tour. The genuine passion from the guide and his love for wine was evident! Would highly recommend to all friends and family.
Went with a group of four 22 year olds. Was a very interesting tour. Our tour guide (terrible with names but the woman from Seattle) made the tour even better as she super entertaining, knowledgeable, and adapted to everyone’s previous knowledge of wine.
Great hour or so with a very good guide demonstrating wine growing and production in the Gibbston and associated vineyard areas. Zac was interesting informative and very knowledgeable. The cave was a real bonus. Our only comment would be - some basic food with the wine we were tasting please even cheese and bread would have been perfect. All in all a great excursion, didn't take much time and was informative/educational.
A beautiful setting, indoor and outdoor seating. The wine tasting was very well organised and offered some quality wines. Worth a look.
My friends and I had the most beautiful time at Gibbston Valley Winery. The tour was very informative and Alex went above and beyond to look after us. The wine tasting was tailored to our own individual preferences and all of our questions were answered. To compare the experience to other wineries on our trip, this one really stood out. Thank you for a memorable experience, we would highly recommend a visit!
Really enjoyed this tour. What a great opportunity to see the wine-making process including different types of soil and grapes, fermentation and the aging process. Fantastic learning session on how to match wine with food.
Fascinating tour in a stunning location. Jolie a superb hostess & guide, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and clear to listen to and a world of information on a wide variety of subjects & every aspect of the wine & winery of course. Stayed-on for lunch after the tour & tasting on recommendation from tourists we got talking to in town and certainly weren't disappointed. Service, presentation (plating) and flavors world-class. Will certainly recommend & be coming back.
