Gibbston Valley Wines - Wine & Cheese Experience

Our guide was lovely but it was very expensive for what we got. I thought at $55 per person the tasting sizes would be more generous. The wine tasting were the same size as you would expect at a free tasting, and the cheeses were just a mouthful. The guide mentioned before the tasting about being shown around the wine cave etc, but that didn’t happen. At the end of the tasting we were asked what our favourite pairing was, and I thought we may have received a glass of that wine, but no. I wouldn’t recommend this.

We spent a really interesting two hour visiting the cave and trying out various wines and cheese - we have annabelle Spanish guide (Marina) who was very knowledgable around all things wine

Lovely way to spend an afternoon, the wines were delicious and so was the local cheese.

Melissa was excellent. You could tell she loved sharing her expertise with the group. She went above and beyond to make it special.

I expected a bit more from this place. It was a beautiful space nestled into the landscape that probably caters more to weddings or events, but the wine flight and cheese plate were just ok. Nothing exceptional. Can get better wine or less money at BWS.

We had the most incredible cheese and wine tasting experience at Gibbston Valley Wines, thanks to Melissa! She was absolutely amazing—warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the wines and cheeses she presented. Melissa took the time to explain each pairing in a way that was both engaging and easy to follow. Her recommendations were spot on, and you could really feel her enthusiasm for making the experience special. Every wine was beautifully matched with its cheese, and she made the whole tasting feel personal and memorable. This was truly a standout experience and one I’d highly recommend to anyone visiting Gibbston Valley. Thank you, Melissa, for making it exceptional!

We had an absolutely lovely time at the winery. Loved the wines and the platters and the atmosphere is something else: beautiful well-maintained gardens, lovely trees, friendly staff. Will definitely be back

Amazing cheese and wine pairing... would have smashed way more if it was available :) Winery region was beautiful and even rented an e-bike for 30 mins before our tasting

I was not expecting much, but this wine tasting gives me more than I expected! The wine and cheese tasting was one on one as the other person did not show up. The instructor gave me clear explanation on each wine of how to smell it and taste wine first and then cheese. Overall, it is fun experience. They also have transport from central Queenstown, and you can book it directly from their website, which save me a lot of time. If you have special needs, you can discuss it with the driver to see how to meet it. Perfect place to relax before my evening flight back to Wellington. I would definitely go back to visit when I'm in Queenstown next time. Keep up the good work 👏 🙌

We did the wine tour. Four wines and cheese pairing. This is new world wine. It is very good but don’t expect the depth and complexity of wines from established wine countries like France and Italy. The cheese is from their cheesery where you can buy it as well as chocolate truffle, honey, and much more. We ended up buying bottle and and one of the excellent cheese we tasted. The tour was also excellent mostly due to our guide, Hippolyte who was very knowledgeable and friendly - he is from Bordeaux, France where he worked as a wine tour guide for top wineries with Grand Cru. We visited their cave, the largest of NZ. From what we experienced, this would be the best tour on this area of NZ. Definitely recommended.

The wine tasting was amazing, great experience with all in the garden…. The cheesery was disappointing we were planning to buy some for the evening not enjoy with wine but the asian lady serving was rude and not interested in helping anyone at all.

We took part in a small tour with Zach who was delightful who talked about the history of Gibbston Valley and the process of vinification. It was an engaging tour capped off with some wonderful cheese pairings which was wonderful after lunch in the restaurant. Highly recommended.

I am not very knowledgeable about wine and cheese so it was educational for me. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I booked a tour with transport to and from Queenstown and I was very lucky because the driver went above and beyond by telling me fun facts about Lord of the Rings and showing me where there LOTR filming locations were (the ones that were around that area).

Great tour, Zach was extremely accommodating and knowledgeable on the paring of wine and cheese. It definitely elevated our appreciation of the cheese to go with the wine selections.

What an incredible experience. After doing various wine tours, this easily stood out as an exceptional and best experience. Jolie was absolutely phenomenal and made this wine and cheese tour the best we have ever experienced. She had a huge amount of knowledge, but knew exactly how to tailor it to suit our understanding and interest. She was so bubbly and personable and made us feel very “at home” to ask all sorts of questions during the tour.

So far the best wine tour we’ve ever been to. Zack was incredibly knowledgeable and opened our eyes to wine and cheese pairings and the huge differences we can achieve in taste through them. After the tour, we did our own little wine tasting in the sunny garden where Zack helped us pick out the right wines to match our palates. A truly invaluable experience. We recommend it to anyone who has a penchant for cheese and wine!

We arrived on a HOP-on, Hop-off wine tour and were greeted warmly by Zach, who offered us the alternative activities, and we decided on a wine tasting at the bar with Zach. Zach was very knowledgeable about the wines, and his obvious love and dedication to his role were very evident. After a good 40 minutes, we left with a few bottles and wines tucked away and, on Zach's advice, an appointment to attend the Wine and Cheese cave tour the following day. To our joy, Zack was taking the tour when we again arrived, and the group of 6 had a fantastic time and were very impressed with Zach's manner and knowledge of wine and cheese pairings. Thanks, Zach you are one of the many highlights of our holiday in Queenstown.

We had a girls weekend in Queenstown and cycled out to Gibbston Valley Winery for the Wine & Cheese tour. It was absolutely awesome. Very special to have a wander around the cave and get some great pictures. Zach our tour guide was exceptional taking us through the various wines and explaining the way the various cheeses changed the taste of them. Great value for money and would highly recommend.

Loved the unique experience of doing the wine and cheese tour in the cave where the wine is stored and hearing the winery's history. Very rustic! The wines and cheeses were fabulous and our guide Rachel was fabulous - relaxed, friendly and knowledgable.
