The road to Glenorchy is one of New Zealand’s most scenic drives, winding 46 km along the edge of Lake Whakatipu. With dramatic mountain views, native forest, and iconic film locations, it’s a breathtaking journey into the heart of the Southern Alps
Departing from Glenorchy, soar above the shimmering waters of Lake Whakatipu before following the braided channels of the Dart River and the sweeping landscapes of the Rees Valley. Enjoy spectacular aerial views of this remote alpine wilderness as you make your way toward the glacier for your unforgettable snow landing.
Heading towards the towering peaks of Mount Aspiring, you’ll venture deep into remote alpine wilderness far from the crowds. Your experienced pilot will carefully select the perfect spot to touch down on fresh, untouched snow atop a secluded glacier, giving you time to step out, take in the silence, and capture unforgettable photos of this extraordinary landscape.
On your return journey, relax as your pilot retraces a spectacular alpine route back toward Glenorchy. We did a glacier flight with Heli Glenorchy and every part of the experience from booking to the flight was amazing, the lady in the office was fantastic and our Pilot was 1 of 2 Matts flying that day, we were so buzzed we forgot to ask which one but he was so good that we decided he must be the best Matt! 😆 Flight was amazing, Matt was super friendly and informative. My partner and I booked this for ourselves saying "heck it it's a once in a lifetime experience" but we realised we lied to ourselves because we wanted to do it again the minute we got off. We'll definitely we going again with Heli Glenorchy as there isn't any part of the experience that we thought they could have done better. Thanks so much guys and we look forward to seeing you again!
