This was amazingly fun! Dinner was delicious, the boat ride was nice, and the show / shop was a great way to round this off!!! My husband and I LOVED it!!

Cool lake tour on old steam powered boat. Be sure to take a look downstairs at the workings. Buffet is a great mix of meats with every sauce you could want plus hot veg cold seafood, salads, sep cheese and also dessert bar. We enjoyed our meal so much we skipped the working dog show but others said it was interesting.
Wonderful nostalgic triton the steamer, the farm provided the best food spread we have ever seen. BBQ to fish to salads and sweets. Yum. Sheepdog roundup a bit of fun.
Wow! From beginning to end a great way to end our time in Queenstown travelling through the country. The TSS Earnslaw is a jewel of the lake. What a beautiiful, well maintained ship. The ship itself is lovely to behold let alone the lake and views all around as we made our way to Walter Peak for a buffet dinner. We were greeted very warmly and they were well organized getting us to tables, drink orders then advising us when it was our turn to get some food. The food was really great, definitely not standard buffet fare, dessert delicious as well. We were able to browse their lovely gift shop before the farm show (recommend if you have time before). The farm show was very entertaining with a shearing demonstration. The herding demonstration with dogs was also absolutely fun and it was all informative. Back on the ship and back into town about 9 it was a great way to end our time and would 100% recommend this to anyone thinking about it.
What a memorable experience! The buffet was delicious and offered a great selection of food. However, allowing a little more time to enjoy the meal and soak in the atmosphere would make the experience even better. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I would highly recommend it.
One of the best things to do in Queenstown! The journey over on the Earnslaw is beautiful, and the history on board is really interesting. The buffet dinner is incredible, all very good quality and delicious food. Loved the farm show as an after dinner treat too.
Very unorganised extremely crowded and the farm show is a miss for me did it in winter and it’s outdoors freezing if doing the dinner option staff were great just not worth the price for such a crowded thing maybe just do the cruise on the boat to experience that and miss the farm. Food was ok but nothing to rave about
From purchasing the ticket to devouring the dessert, the whole Earnshaw experience was thoroughly enjoyablable. The after dinner show and the voyage home we cannot recommend highly enough. The food selection was devine and catered to everyone -- especially the dessert bar! Special mention to Charlotte for going above and beyond. Thank you very much for a very memorable night. This made for a very delightful birthday surprise for my parents.
Wow what a spectacular evening. We booked the dinner cruise departing Queenstown wharf at 5.00pm for a buffet style bbq dinner at Walter Peak Station. The evening was a birthday treat (70th) which the Real NZ staff were aware of giving us a dedicated table both in the Earnslaw and at Walter Peak not to mention singing “happy birthday “. The food served was sensational, perfectly bbq’ed pork, lamb and venison. Great vege and desserts. i literally rolled out feeling so uncomfortable having gorged on so much great food, The farm show that followed dinner was entertaining and the Earnslaw voyage a delight.
Beautiful chug down the lake capturing magical vista with the opportunity to view exceptional & historic engineering aboard the Earnslaw, still coal driven. When pulling into the wharf, the Staff at Peak Station were on the foreshore waving us in, just fantastic. The food is excellent. The selection of NZ meat, cheese & fish clearly showcased. It was the best buffet quality food I have ever experienced.
Atmosphere and choices of food in buffets
It was a chilly but beautiful experience - the cruise, dinner and an education on sheep shearing. We were a party of 10, 3 generations and the kids and grandkids had fun. The food was excellent- the variety sumptuous. I would highly recommend this to big families going on tour.
Fabulous food, wonderful dog and shearing show, gorgeous location
A fantastic expereince all round. One of the highlights was the personal attention I recieved for having particular dietry needs. I was walked through the food avaialble to let me know what I could and could not eat. Attention to detail was second to none and the selection of food that I could eat was incredible. Thanks to all involved and the whole team that put these trips together. Huge thanks and appreciation.
Coeliacs…! You are catered for so well on this experience. We have one Coeliac in the family and she was so well looked after. When booking I alerted them to having a Coeliac within the group and when we arrived they sort them out and walked them through what was safe (which was a lot!) and what was unsafe. They made sure that Miss Coeliac went up first before everyone (to ensure no cross contamination) and encourage her to take loads of food to make sure she would be full and satisfied - which she did and she was very very full! The food was incredible and experience was definitely one of our favourites of the trip. It is worth it!!
This is a fabulous experience. Dinner is well organised and yummy. We enjoyed the sticky date pudding for dessert, it was the star as the other desserts weren’t great. The show after was excellent too. We went at night so didn’t get to see the rest of the farm but what we did see was beautiful. Having the staff waving to welcome you was a special touch.
The TSS Walter Peak Steamboat was packed for the evening cruise. Unlike other tours that I have taken in the day, this one felt overwhelming with the crowds. If not for the rainy day, I'm sure the views over lake Waikatipu would have been stunning. It was a nice buffet dinner at Walter Peak, with a wide range of roasted meats and sauces available. However, as I had just been to the stoker room, the quality of the meats paled in comparison. The saving grace for the dinner was definitely the toffee pudding.
Excellent trip over to Walter Peak, beautiful lunch and excellent farm show. So well organised and the property and grounds were stunning. I would go again for sure.
Relaxing cruise with beautiful views. Dropped off at Walter Peak for a scrumptious dinner!! There is sooo much food and variety to choose from. After dinner there is a farm show which entailed a good girl named 'Kim', she rounded up the sheep. There was a sheep shearing demonstration. We were given some free time before the cruise came back to pick us up. They have blankets avaliable, which was really helpful.
Beautiful evening cruise to Walter Farm, staff very friendly and helpful. Dinner was very good and delicious.
While the cruise is worthwhile to take, the quality of dinner is not so impressive. Some of the guests in other tables talked loudly which made us very uncomfortable. We needed to ask for change a table at the inside room. Not only our table, there were two more requests for changes from other guests. The quality of foods is average.
Worth it for the food and views The food was great - tasty, varied and plentiful. Cruise have a different view of Queenstown. Show was ok but we are farmers.
When we got to QT, we were advised to do this. However as a family with adult children, I had no real interest in visiting a farm with sheep shearing etc. So we just did a lake cruise, which took passengers to Walter Peak farm and back. One look was all it took to change my mind, so the next day we booked the gourmet bbq cruise. Again, not really expecting too much, we were amazed at the quality of food, the absolutely spectacular scenery from our table and the service. And we are tough critics! Would definitely do this again, just maybe earlier in the day as it was dark on the cruise back to QT. Well worth the money!!
Very cool steam boat tour. Very busy buffet with very average food. Gorgeous farm and fun to walk around at the end. Very nice dog trainer who spent time talking with the kids after the show. Overall fun afternoon out with the fam.
Lovely cruise across the lake. Dinner was delicious and the farm show very entertaining. Highly recommend!
A very enjoyable evening with delicious food. Very well organised. The steam boat was interesting and well maintained.
We had the most incredible evening at Walter Peak High Country Farm and Cruise from Queenstown 🌄🚤 From the moment we stepped onto the vintage steamship TSS Earnslaw, the experience felt special. The cruise across Lake Wakatipu was absolutely stunning — calm water, mountain views, and that peaceful golden-hour glow you just don’t forget. But what truly made the night unforgettable was the effort the team put into celebrating my daughter’s birthday. They surprised her on the boat, which completely made her day — she was smiling the entire time. Then at dinner, they went above and beyond again, making her feel so special. Dinner at Walter Peak High Country Farm was exceptional. The food was fresh, high-quality, and there was so much variety — something for everyone. The setting was warm and welcoming, and the staff were genuinely friendly and attentive the whole night. Between the breathtaking cruise, the amazing food, and the thoughtful birthday surprises, this was more than just dinner — it was a memory our family will always hold onto. Highly recommend this experience if you’re in Queenstown. It’s absolutely worth it.
Great evening. Lovely ride across the lake, stunning views as you'd expect from New Zealand. Great BBQ buffet with a lot of choice. Added bonus of sheep shearing and sheep dog in action! Nice gentle tour to soak in the views and fill your belly.
Food was great, show was good, had to buy expensive drinks. Too crowded on boat and too late for views, and farm.
What an unexpected surprise. Was truly a great experience. From the boat cruise to the buffet to the sheep shearing show. It was all worth it!
Excellent and informative boat ride. The meal was better than I could have imagined…so much food!! We enjoyed the sheep shearing and dog herding demo. There young gal was so friendly and charismatic. Cute gift shop, too. Fun evening for all!!
Such an incredible experience and very much worth the price. 4 of us (all adults) did the 5pm trip with dinner and dog show. The farm was stunning and the dinner first class. So well organised and so much food - you could top up your plate as often as your stomach allowed! Small & large groups are allocated their own table. Staff incredibly friendly. Can see why this experience rates so highly. Do suggest booking direct through RealNZ who own the boat and farm rather than a 3rd party. If considering, do it, you'll have no regrets!
This was one of our favorite activities in Queenstown! The steam ship ride over was fascinating, the Farm food was delicious, the staff was friendly. The sheep show was fun! All around great time!
Just an exceptional experience the minute we stepped on to the moment we disembarked. The ship the staff the food the show the stunning location. Highly recommended. In fact bucket list worthy recommendation.
Thanks for the booking. The experience of sailing on the iconic Earnslaw as well as assimilating the striking beauty of Walter Peak Farm along with the evening dinner was nothing but superb .
Such a beautiful place and the sheep shearing show was so entertaining! A definite item on your agenda if you are visiting Queenstown.
We had perfect weather for and afternoon evening return on a beautiful steamer. Dinner was superb and friendly staff. Would recommend to anyone.
A wonderful experience. The boat to the venue was great. The food was fabulous. The show well done. Thank you
From start to finish the cruise, dinner and farm experience was excellent. A must when in Queenstown
We took the old ship which was a joy to be on. The cruise was smooth sailing and lovely views .The dinner is fantastic! Plenty of choices to choose from and the quality is top notch. Service is great and the views from the restaurant are spectacular.
This was surprisingly better than expected, as I expected a poorly done tourist trap. This was indeed interesting as the ship itself was interesting and the dinner excellent.
We had an enjoyable time on the TSS Earnslaw while cruising on Lake Wakatipu. Once reaching the Walter Peak High Country Farm, we were impressed to find that we had a reserved table for our group (4 adults). The Buffet was plentiful and delicious. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. The grounds are very pretty, and it would have been nice to have a little time to stroll the property before having to walk over to watch the sheep shearing show. The show was educational and entertaining. The time in the gift shop was a bit short, before having to reboard the TSS Earnslaw steamboat to be ferried back to Queenstown. Overall, very nice evening.
It was a beautiful boat ride and the real steamboat was really cool. You can see the guy shoveling coal. Dinner was fantastic and everyone was friendly.
Amazing experience. First the trip on steamer Earnslaw, and then the beautiful gardens, dining set-up and service at Walter Peak. Despite in excess of 200 people attending dinner, the organisation and service could not be faulted. Plentiful and wide range of buffet food, without the usual scramble. The live dog and sheep farm show was also educational and interesting.
What a wonderful location in beautiful Queenstown for a cruise across the lake in perfect weather ! Stunning views 360 degrees . Fascinating to be able to see the engines in action on the steamship , feel the heat and see the coal fires burning . The Walter Peak high country farm served up a stunning selection of food- my favourites were the tender and tasty lamb and venison . Top of the desert treat list was Sticky toffee pudding - everything beautifully presented . Quite a crowd but everyone well spread and placed so not overwhelming . Something for everyone ( even vegan ) all in a large homestead farmhouse with Dave Dobbyn playing through the speakers. Mia the Working dog stole the farm show as the star , perfectly executing her sheep rounding duties without a care in the world for all the eyes watching her . Also a chance to take home a piece of freshly sheared wool off an obliging lamb ! It was all as kiwi as kiwi gets ! Loved it
What a fantastic evening we had. The boat is amazing and the trip over just beautiful. The bbq dinner was absolutely amazing and one of the best meals we had in queenstown. The sheep dog and shearing show was also a heap of fun. Couldn't rate the experience any higher
Fun boat trip on a vintage steamer to an idealized sheep farm where there is a delicious buffet dinner and a sheep herding/shearing show. Gardens surrounding the dining venue were stunningly beautiful. Boat ride, dinner and the show were the right length to enjoy without becoming tedious. Kim, the sheep dog, was delightful. Sight lines for the sheep herding and shearing demonstration could be improved It was cool on deck for the return, so be sure to bring a jacket.
An excellent “BBQ lunch” and sheep dog show at Walter Peak Station. Hardly a BBQ, an amazing buffet of BBQ cooked meats, salad’s vegetables deserts… make sure you arrive hungry food is superb! The farm show watching a sheep shearing and seeing the dogs at work is an experience to remember.
Excellent Bbq and sheep shearing/herding show Took a steamboat to get there very cool
The evening tour starts on the wharf at Queenstown at exactly 5pm so arrive by about 4:30 so as not to be at the end of the line. Its a line-up of passengers to board the steamer. Make sure to have your ticket with you (printed or phone). You can ride on the upper or lower deck ... the stairs are very awkward so I recommend the upper deck unless already full. We rode on the lower deck on the out-journey and the upper deck back .. iif you ride the upper deck beware the fumes from the coal fired engine are a bit overwhelming.. The steamer runs to exact times. On board there are drinks and snacks available to purchase, and free water for everyone. Its a lovely environment on-board and the views of the lake are wonderful. It takes about 45 minutes to reach the Walter Peak venue which is a working sheep station & a huge modern public restaurant where a delicious bbq dinner is available from about 7 to 8pm. Drinks are extra cost. Following the dinner there is a short , educational and interesting display given by a sheep sheerer and his border collie .. well worth the half hour it takes. Following the display the steamer returns to Queenstown with an onboard piano entertainer where everyone can join in. The steamer arrives back at the wharf at about 9pm.
