A fantastic day overall. The bikes were excellent and the journey even better. We stopped at all of the wineries and still had time to sit at each and enjoy their offerings. The tour, although self-guided is really well organised.

Full of personality, Mt Rosa is located at the end of the valley and is certainly worth the effort to visit.
Built in Wangaloa in 1894, this old church was relocated to Gibbston in the early 2000’s. Today instead of hymns and sermons it serves up local wines and good vibes.

There are several bike rental and cycling tour operators in Queenstown including Around The Basin located at Searle Lane. Opening hours are 9am to 5pm daily for those who want to drop by to rent bikes for the day. You can also reservations through their website in advance for tours which include transportation to/from arranged drop-off and pick-up locations near Queenstown. We recently participated in the Full Day Wine Tasting tour between Arrowtown and the Gibbston Wine Region and had a great day out. Pick up is at their HQ in Queenstown. We were then transported with other guests to Arrowtown where we picked up bikes, given instructions on how to operate the e-bikes. Staff provided map with listed wineries that provide tastings for walk-in visitors and cyclists, and guidance on how to make sure we were following the correct pathways along with phone numbers in case any support needs occurred during the day. We then began our full day cycling tour through Arrow Town, along the Arrow River, crossing suspension bridges and enjoying time in beautiful nature before arriving at the historic Kawarau Suspension Bridge where you can watch the world first and most famous AJ Hackett bungy jump participates before continuing onward into the Gibbston Wine Country. We made stops at the Peregrine Winery, GT Tavern for lunch, Brennan Winery and then finished up at The Church for 4pm pickup and return to Queenstown. Bikes were in very good condition, maps provided quite helpful in picking out several wineries to visit. Scenery throughout was amazing and staff very friendly and helpful throughout. We had a great time and would very much enjoy doing the same cycling tour again as well as trying others with Around The Basin Bike Queenstown in the future.
It was really well organised getting the bikes, simple instructions and then off we went to explore at our pace. Feedback on the bus back was that the E bike option definitely the go to fully enjoy. And do a little research on which places you might want to stop
What a great day!! You have the choice of a regular bike or an e-bike. After the guide gives instructions and you’re comfortable, you’re on your way!! You can stop at as many or as few wineries as you choose. And the ride along the way is gorgeous!! We only stopped at the Gibbston Valley Winery and The Church Cellar Door winery, which was a great place to end. The views were spectacular, the music was great, and the atmosphere was lively. It was the perfect place to relax and enjoy!!
Read the reviews and knew we needed to take note of signage. Spent 1hr in Arrowtown for breakfast at Provisions before heading off. Crossed the road too early after bunjy bridge and went off track. Realised and got back. Scenery is amazing and we loved the live music at Kinross. Finished with plenty of time at the final destination.
So much fun on e-bikes. Staff drove us from Queenstown to Arrowton to pick up bikes. Great guys, adjusted bikes for fit, gave us instructions for the route & pickup location. They were at the pickup spot right on time. Wineries were fun, able to get in 3 while not feeling rushed.
Not to be missed - but make sure you have a clear idea of where your going.. and book ahead for tastings.
Perfect day great people good bike and shuttle thank heaps
It was a wonderful day! The team at "Around the Basin" were fantastic and so organized. Upon arrival we were given details on how the tour worked. The shuttle bus to bring us to meet the bikes was punctual. The crew at the spot we got our bikes were so pleasant and helpful. They gave us instructions on how the bikes worked, instructions on how the e-bikes worked, (were very patient with those that had never ridden an e-bike). We were given the opportunity to practice riding at an open field - they were very easy to use! We were given a map of the trail and were on our way! We were told which winery to be at to meet the shuttles. Again very pleasant crew and punctual. It was an amazing day! Highly recommend!
Wonderful day out, with great views and great wine. Weather was a it average to begin with but became a great day by the end
Great way to see Arrowtown and Gibbston. We got breakfast in Arrowtown and did multiple vineyards in Gibbston.
Fantastic day biking experience in Queenstown. The team are awesome. One of our bikes broke part way. A quick phone call and our host turned up on the trail with a replacement within the stated 10 minutes.
This was our favorite activity of the whole trip. The weather was clear and perfect, and the scenery was to die for. A full day was perfect. We grabbed bagels and coffee in Arrowtown before heading out. Like others had mentioned, I wish we would have spent a little more time in Arrowtown since it’s a one way journey. The e-bikes are fantastic and absolutely the way to go! I’d never used one before, and they’re ideal for the hills and wind you’ll encounter. Because it was so hot, wine wasn’t really sounding good, but we stopped at Kinross which had been recommended for their pizza, and got cider, beer, pizzas, and then had a tasting flight before we left. All very good. Our last stop was at The Church winery, where the bus was to pick us up. This was the only negative experience we had during the whole event. The staff was so incredibly rude, particularly one woman. We had just arrived and sat at one of their outside locations. It’s very hippy-ish, with old tires and pallets as a table, scattered garden chairs, etc. One of our party went in the main building to find out if we order at the bar as in some locations, or waited for a server. She was treated very rudely, and the lady came storming out, saying we couldn’t just wait there for the bus. We tried explaining that yes, we were waiting for the bus, but we still had about an hour, so we were making this our last stop and wanted to order. We did end up getting drinks, but this lady literally would not speak to us the rest of the time. It was so uncomfortable. I’d recommend the biking wine tour in a heartbeat, but avoid The Church like the plague.
Good ride through the countryside. Friends completed the ride and I did not. Called for a ride and waited as directed but no one showed up. One heck of an expensive ride back to my rental.
We had a lot of fun on this self-guided tour. They make sure you are all set up and measured properly for on the bikes with instructions and maps to help you. The route to the wineries is amazing view, beautiful with fun bridges and solid hills. We did the e-bikes and have no regrets, without the assist it would have been much less “leisurely”. One thing is we did go on a Monday and a few of the wineries on the stop were closed so other days may be better to get to everything.
Pick up: straightforward Bike instruction: all good Bike trail: not so clear Landed up on a main road for 6kms or so, as not clearly signposted where one should go. Same applied to other parts of the route, where it was not so clear if one should turn left or right Eventually got to the wineries, cycled up some massive hill looking for Rockburn Winery (as it shows on the map). Googled it and found it was 1.35 hours away! Rockburn Winery is now Monte Christo (which is lovely) but they don’t tell us this before we set off
Great experience! The booking was a breeze, and included plenty of tips on how to get the most out of our tour. The briefing on the day itself was exceptionnaly clear and easy to remember. The bikes were top quality and top condition.
This was a great day. The team at Around the Basin accomodated us with a change of date due to weather . They provided the right amount of guidance to get us on our way . Highly recommend the full day wine tour . Do some research before hand and pre book your lunch and tastings . Kinross tasting was great value for money . All in all great day !
Fantastic day! Great bikes, helpful staff and beautiful scenery. We had the bonus of missing the track sign at the start of the tour and found ourselves at the top of Toban’s track in 3ft of snow. Awesome day!
So fun! We did the e-bikes and had such a great day. We are moderately fit and it would have definitely been a bit too challenging for us on regular bikes. Super helpful and cool staff
amazing day. Well organised. We took a wrong turn after the first bridge & ended up the top of a mountain. We were told this has also happened recently so maybe sign post after initial small bridge could be better. Visited Mt Edward estate & tasted some amazing wines. Overall great experience & service
This bike ride to the wineries was so much fun! It was so beautiful in the fall with the colors! I wish it was an hour longer but besides that it was amazing!! We did the regular bikes so it was a tough workout. The wineries were great too!
Fantastic!!! Electric bikes are a game changer. Love my bike “Edward”. The staff were friendly, funny and helpful. I felt very secure that they would help with anything. The valley and ride was beautiful. Spent lots of time enjoying the views. The bungee jump bridge was a hoot. Fun to watch the crazy people jump. The wineries along the way were peaceful, beautiful with great wine and food. Lovely day and a wonderful place. Highly recommend !!
Bikes + wine = perfection. We had so much fun on the trail and at the vineyards. The team was so easy to work with and very friendly. Thank you for a great day!!
Amazing day. All instructions very clear and provided in a humorous fashion. Fabulous day out with plenty of time for wine tasting and eating. A minor criticism is the lack of friendliness and interest in the clients from the two people on the desks in the store. They let the entire team down - they did nothing wrong but there was simply no friendly interaction at all.
This was a really fun day. It was so easy to get to the pick up point. We were dropped off at Arrow Town and fitted with our bikes. We were entertained with really funny New Zealand jokes as we were being given our safety and ride tips. I’m still proud to be on Team Australia! The bikes were in good nick and easy to ride- thank goodness for the e-bike which provided two angels at my back ( another joke!) The ride is incredibly scenic and very manageable for some one who can ride but only does it a couple of times a year. I really appreciated the flexible pick up points, especially as we simply could not leave one of the wineries- good wine, music and pizza. It would’ve been rude to leave. This was one of my favourite days in Queenstown.
Beautiful ride along the river to some lovely wineries. Although it was a wet day, we had a great day and excellent lunch and Pinot Noir at Kinross winery. Check in and bus drive could have been a bit more welcoming, but e-bike ride instructions very good. Finished at The Church in good time for one more and pick up.
It is well worth doing for the scenery and wine , try not to overdo the wine, and for Steve's safety brief, best ever
It would be sooooo easy to give this a 5-Star review. But that review would be based on the scenery and the wineries...not the company itself. First, the good: the bikes are in decent shape and they allow you to call at the end of your ride if you want to be picked up somewhere other than the final destination. That was hugely helpful, since we'd been riding and drinking a fair amount of wine, so trying to rush back to an arbitrary assembly point would have been a challenge. But... We stopped by the day before and asked if we could have a map to review that night. Nope. The rather curt counter-person said we could take a picture of the map on the wall, but no paper copy. Alrighty then. When we checked in, the same less-than-nice representative gave us a one-page info sheet (no map), and told us we'd get a map when we arrived at the trailhead. We asked if they had a restroom to use, but, no again, we should find a public toilet somewhere outside. Keep in mind it's a thirty minute drive to the trail head and they want you there well beforehand. So, be prepared. Eventually, we all muster into the van, where the driver says very little. None of your usual informative commentary, just 80s rock on the radio. We arrive and hear the usual amusing/informative banter from the person greeting us, but we notice, hmmm, there's no restroom again. We eventually collect our bikes and helmet (none of which fit on my adult-sized head). There's a pouch on the bike for a water bottle, but, you guessed it, no water is provided, either. But hey, we DID get a map. Off we went. A few other notes.... If you do this ride DEFINITELY get an e-bike. The trail is hilly with lots of loose gravel. It would be a struggle to do it without it. Also, if you do buy any wine, there are no panniers to put your wine in. So bring a backpack. A backpack would also be useful for bringing along, yep, some water, too.
This was so much fun! The e-bikes were a fantastic way to ride the wine trail! Would highly recommend this to anyone! 5 ⭐️’s
Spectacular views and ride - a highlight of our trip. Favorite of many bike rides. If you know how to navigate a bike (shifting gears frequently up and down hills while adjusting ebike speed), it's super fun. While i won't ding for one or two people's unfriendly demeanor in the office, it's disappointing when we've done so many tours and everywhere else and staff has been full of fun and energy from the start. These people are in the wrong jobs, and they likely know it as they're not happy. One lady with long hair and pretty bright eyes was super friendly. And yes, a bathroom at the office would be nice. Others say the same.
We loved it. It's was so much fun and bikes were great quality. The track was a little rough and was just gravel but the scenery was spectacular.
This was a great experience and great day out. Bikes were well looked after and no issues at all. Thoroughly recommend!
Great fun beautiful scenery and yummy wines enjoyed the electric bikes and the trail was very easy to follow
Loved the whole experience! Very well organised so the transfers went smoothly and the ride was fairly flat so we could have been on any type of bike. Wineries were lovely - surroundings, food and wine were all very much enjoyed!
Am amazing day! It has been a highlight of our trip! The views were spectacular from the start to the finish! From the booking to the check in process, to being dropped off to our pick up! The bikes were excellent and the winery recommendations were awesome! Would highly recommend this to everyone!
We hired the e-bikes which made the ride very easy. Very picturesque trails. Plenty of spots to stop and take photos. Sampled some great wine and food along the way. We did the full day tour which gave us plenty of time to relax at each winery.
This was SO fun. We loved the adventuring of the cycle and then the R&R of the wine, food, cheese and laughs at the wineries. We ended the day with a lot of wine bottles clinking our bags that we purchased. I'd highly recommend this but also recommend - lots of water, sunscreen and deep pockets for buying all the delish food, it's not expensive but all so good so you don't want to miss out on any.
The whole experience was totally excellent in all ways. The Nature, biking, wineries, vibe, weather, the service and the company. Couldn’t ask for more. Highly recommended!!
Beautiful scenery along the river biking to the many wineries. We chose to use mountain bikes instead of e-bikes and it was very doable. There were a few steep hills but manageable. We enjoyed all the wineries and had snacks at each place. Especially enjoyed the creamy mushroom & thyme soup at The Church! Our guides that got us to Arrowtown and back were great!!
This was great experience! We had an amazing day, the staff were very friendly, organised, gave clear instructions, and the bikes were well maintained. Best activity we did in Queenstown area, will definitely be back!
This was a highlight activity for me and my wife. We hired e-bikes which were excellent to help particularly at the end of the day when we were a lot of wine deep. As a thrill seeker had plenty of opportunity to jump the bike and be an absolute loose unit on the trail. Love it. The views were SO GREAT! We spent a lot of time enjoying the scenery and views. My tip is to bring sunscreen/hat as I forgot and had terribly chapped and sunburnt lips which I could have avoided. We made two for life friends, the wineries on the tour guide were incredible in both service and product. Such an incredible day!!! This is a must-do in Queenstown! (they will bus you for free to Arrowtown and get you home after the trip too!) Will be recommending to all my friends and family.
Highlight of our trip. Stunning scenery and easy ride with electric bikes. It was great to be able to go at our own pace. Thoroughly recommend this experience.
Absolutely stunning scenery, great wineries with delicious food/drinks available, easy to follow trail
What an epic day and way to explore the area. The wolf in Arrowtown does the best coffee and 100% recommend starting with that before jumping on an e-bike for a great self-guided wine tour in the beautiful landscape.
My husband & I were very pleased with the e-bikes we rented for the day. The trail was beautiful, interesting and safe. Instructions given prior to our ride were very clear & helpful.
I had a lovely lovely day!! Sure, I love bike riding! I ride all the time in my normal life. But you will love bike riding with this organisation. Well organised, experienced, friendly. In short, it's a fantastic outfit. Josh is a great host at the beginning of your ride. Well done, Josh!! Must be hard after the 100th time, but you make the info easy to remember!! Take an E bike, especially if you don't ride much, but if you are fit, you don't need an e bike, but it's fun!! Glorious scenery. Many photo opportunities. There is plenty to eat and drink on the way. We went to Mt Rosa winery. Fantastic! Stopped for a gin tasting. Equally excellent. I can not recommend this activity high enough. I would give it 10 stars I could!!
Fantastic day out. Weather was very average but that made the ride even more fun. Beautiful scenery and an interesting track made the day fly by. Take on board the companies recommendations for winery stops. Team was super helpful and accomodating. A word of warning to be prepared to get a bit muddy is the ground is wet.
Great set. Well organised full day experience. It was a fantastic day and all the wineries super close to each other. We loved it
What a great day. Super professional , well organized and a great trail. Only recommendations, if you ae doing the full day definitely use an e-bike. Much more hilly at the beginning then the description states, but still a must if you are in Queenstown.
