Fantastic experience using the E-bikes. Would have been much more difficult without the extra power so a good suggestion from other reviewers. The scenery was stunning riding along the gorge. Map was simple to follow and we got 3 vineyards in, all with different experiences (all positive). It’s worth bearing in mind that as of 2025/26 rule changes you do now pay at the cellar door for your tastings which varies between $15 $30 dollars, but you get between 3 and 5 tastings with lots of information about the vineyards so well worth it.

Fun way of touring the wineries! The first leg (from the farm to the first winery) was a bit challenging for someone not used to riding a bike (some steep areas or tight corners) but then flattened out and very easy after that. A really enjoyable day.
The driver and bike does are great but the receptionist were kind of rude. They're not helpful if you have any questions aside from locating the site.
Really great day out and would highly recommend! Nice to be able to choose which wineries to go to and a lovely cycle route- definitely recommend e-bikes as imagine quite intense cycling without and then less time for wine tasting!
Picked up & taken to bike track service, extremely helpful staff, great bikes and wineries. Most memorable of NZ experiences.
Around the basin. Very rude. Just got off the bus back in Queenstown and omg I didn’t know people could be so rude. Got on the bus at 3:52, 7 mins earlier than scheduled. We left in a rush to pick other people up from different wineries so we insisted to ask if we could quickly go in and get a bottle of wine at the time cause we had no hands to hold the bottles while riding the bikes, we got to the winery at 3:56 and we still were not required to be on the bus yet but as we insisted to ask to buy a bottle of wine and whilst waiting for the people to finish there wine tasting and board the bus we were immediately shut down and said if we leave the bus we would be left at the winery. We unfortunately did not get our bottle of wine. We then waited another 5mins for everyone to board the bus. Then on our way home the other groups on the bus were dropped to there apartments while we were not asked or instructed to provide our address so we could get dropped to our hotel.
We were able to move our reservation up a day due to predicted rain. The e-bike upgrade was very reasonable also and we were able to make the 60k loop to Arrowtown and back during the day ride. Manager of shop was very pleasant and accommodating before and after our ride. Strongly recommend.
Big shout out to our Welsh bike guide (very friendly and knowledgeable) who took us out to our pick up point on Nov 7. We did 3/4 day electric bike tour and my wife and I had an awesome day with the sun shining and fantastic vineyards tasting.
One of our favourite experiences in Queenstown! Such a beautiful place to explore and be outdoors. We had transport to the bikes and then free rein to get to as many wineries as we wanted to. The bike trail has incredible views and it puts such a fun twist on a wine tour! Cannot recommend this enough. If you’re in Queenstown you HAVE to book this in! :)
A brilliant way to spend a day in Queenstown. Encompasses all good things about the area, amazing scenery, beautiful wine, gorgeous food, lovely gin.
Pick up and drop off from central Queenstown makes this experience easy. After heading out to pick up our bikes, we were shown how to use the ebikes and given instructions to send us on our way. The ride is decent, some steep edges and narrow paths but decent quality the whole way. Important to note: there is a suspension bridge and its a decent height that may be difficult for people with any fear of heights or falling. Once you get to the winery areas there is plenty of options. Would recommend taking yourself a backpack if you plan on buying any wines whilst out.
Brilliant fun, thought 3/4 of a day would be enough, but would did less that 1/2 the wineries and would love to have biked more and then drank more! The whole meet at the shop, van ride to bike collection point, and the comprehensive safety brief were all well run and co-ordinated. Then we were off. Following the very clearly marked bike path, Criss crossing the river at times, the weather was perfect, the bikes were smooth and well maintained. We managed 4 wineries inc lunch but the day gets away with you for sure. If I'd had another day I would have done this again to get to some other venues. Have to peddle faster and drink faster or less maybe? We got the collection point, the bikes were loaded for us and all too soon it was back in the van trundling back to QT, full of tales of differnent wines whilst comparing overall speed and distance data on our phones, ever competitive!
Staff was very helpful and it was apparent they enjoyed their work. Great bikes! Trailers very scenic and easy on our E bikes. Wineries were informative and had great products. Really enjoyed the Church winery!
From beginning to end, it was a great trip. The pickup in Queenstown went well. The bikes were easy to operate. We stopped at the new Church winery, which is at the end of the trail. We were served some good wine and had great food enjoyed in an uncrowded peaceful setting. Josh picked us up on time and took care of the bikes. All we had to do was enjoy the trip.
This was a really fun day! The service provided by Around the Basin was super. Especially the last minute scheduling change. You meet downtown and they bus you out towards Arrowtown , then fit your bike and safety talk. Give you the map and you're on your way. With the 3/4 day, we biked up to Arrowtown and had coffee. Highly recommend this as it was the most beautiful part of the ride and shaded. Then returned and started the winery tour in Gibbston Valley. Great wineries and beautiful views into the river canyon. You really don't need the E-Bike, but they made it lots of FUN! Highly recommend!
We thoroughly enjoyed our day with around the basin. The electric bikes were the best ones we've hired so far and the guys were great! Fantastic scenery along the way to multiple wineries. An amazing service provided, we would highly recommend!!
My brother and I did this in march and had one of the best days of our trip, the wineries were amazing , sights incredible and the team were friendly and helpful, highly recommend this to anyone 😁 top tip is to go for the electric bikes !
You really don’t need the 3/4 day. 1/2 day is plenty. You also really don’t need an e-bike . It’s easily doable on a regular mountain bike. Beautiful scenery and good wine.
What a great experience this was. Easy pick up and drop off procedures as well as great knowledge of the trails and wineries by our driver. The wineries that we got to were all great and best represented the great wines in the region. As a warning to people thinking about getting regular bikes. It was very hard work and would probably get the e bikes if we ever did the tour again. That being said it was a very good experience and recommend this highly.
This was a top notch operation. We did the 3/4 day winery tour which we thought was a good balance of biking and wine tasting. We also took the e-bike option which made the day less taxing and allowed us to get to more places. The information at drop off was good, the staff were really friendly and helpful and picked up our wines from the wineries and us from our finishing winery. The trail is a fun, safe trail that is good for all levels of riding. You can visit as many or as few wineries as you like. This is a very fun way of visiting the Gibbston Valley wineries.
Great service from the moment we booked until we were picked up at the end of the tour. What a nice way to spend a day, cycling amongst such cool scenery and such different vineyards. We're glad we upgraded to ebikes, it'd be a bit tough on the legs using standard bikes. A little hillier than we had anticipated, but it was our first time cycling in a few years.
Such a fantastic day doing the 3/4 day Wineries Tour! Definitely recommend! Easy enough to do for beginners.
This was something I was unsure I was going to enjoy but it definitely exceeded my expectations!! The whole day was great and the guides were lovely getting us all started off! Would definitely recommend
Amazing bike trip over undulating gravel tracks for first 10km then as soon as vineyards start easy 1-2km between them. Went with 3 boys aged 8 and 10. Some of the hills were a bit scary for 8 year old but even walking them up and down we still easily made it to 4 vineyards! Would recommend as wine tasting is awesome ! And tracks not hard at all.
We had a fantastic day out on the trails! Around the Basin was particularly accommodating, as my personal bike broke on the way to the pick up point. They had a spare bike for me and delivered my bike back to Queenstown! Such a great day out celebrating a birthday. All the staff were incredibly friendly and made the experience even more memorable. Thank you! I'll be back :)
If we would have gotten the E-Bikes or choosen a shorter day this would have been a 5. The biking was a little more difficult than we expected and that caused us to walk a little more than expected. The trail had awesome views and we stopped for pictures our fair share as well, but it was more bike than wine for the first part and we were not expecting that. The wine though ... very very good!
This is a decent day to be had, we got in some exercise and we got in some wine. Where we went wrong was an understanding of the trails and our choice of bikes. The biking part is front loaded and the wine part is back loaded. The trail on the front is a little tight and has some serious hills for an average biker, we struggled a little and probably should have gotten the e-bikes. But we still had fun, enjoyed the views and wine and the company was quite easy to work with. So nothing bad to say about them. This was just a little understated in the description and we should have made better choices in our distance / bike choices.
We took the 3/4 day tour. Easy pick-up in town and fast bus-ride out to the drop-off point. Our driver Jase was informative gave us all the info we needed to have a great day. The riding was fairly easy with a few undulating hills, I had to get off and walk with my bike once or twice but my partner had no such troubles. We visited three wineries, could have done more if we rode a bit faster with less stops to take photos and watch bungy-jumpers! The scenery is just gorgeous on this ride and we only saw other bike riders on the path once, so relatively untouched and not crowded whatsoever.
This is a self guided biking tour. Awesome bikes and helmets provided. You depart from Arrowtown approx 930 am on a very well signed and beautiful bike trail down to Gibbston. On a slow pace you reach the wineries at about noon time just in the nick of time for a delicious lunch. Most highly recommend Gibbston Valley Vineyards to eat. All the vineyards are easily accessible from the trail. We had an awesome afternoon wine tasting and by the time we got picked up at the designated point 430 pm we had visited 4 places Coming from the USA this activity does require some level of fitness. There are hills, quick downslopes and sharp curves on gravel road along the trail so you have to be careful. Also there are beautiful suspension bridges but if you are afraid of heights then this is probably not the right activity for you. Overall had a fantastic time and would highly recommend it!!!!
