Ride the Gibbston Valley Wine Trail and choose from 10+ wineries, tavern and a gin tasting room. We advise visiting 3 wineries on our Half Day trip.
Bike over the Kawarau Suspension Bridge - home to the World's first commercial bungy jump!
Finish your ride back at The Church Cellar Door & Café, where your return shuttle to Queenstown will depart at the designated time. If you have time before departure, relax with a glass of local wine, coffee, or a bite to eat while taking in the peaceful vineyard surroundings. It's the perfect way to unwind and reflect on a memorable day exploring the Gibbston Wine Trail before your comfortable transfer back to Queenstown.

Even though it was mostly cloudy and quite cool, this was a fantastic experience for me and my wife. The scenery was spectacular and we stopped at two different wineries and enjoyed the wine tastings. A lot of the trail is alongside the road, but there is a fair amount of the trail that deviates from the road and goes down along the river. Once away from the traffic, and alongside the river, it just feels completely different and you're kind of in awe. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend it to anyone who is into this sort of thing. We did use the e-bikes which made things quite easy for both of us. My only suggestion to the bike shop was to have the option of paying a little bit more and having the helmets that can communicate with each other. We have them at home and they are fantastic. When we go bike riding. You can carry on a conversation. Even though your partner or friends are spread out. I think it would be a good option for the bike shop. Anyway, great experience and beautiful scenery and good wine. What else can you ask for?
Wine was delicious, cycling was scenic and fun. Could not recommend the experience enough to anyone.
Really great trail, excellent bikes, very friendly staff and flexible with finishing location. E-bikes were a great decision, worked excellently. Trail is beautiful and everything is well set up for the bike tour. Had trouble finding any information regarding times, apart from pickup in Queenstown. We were not sure what time we were getting picked up until the day before - default is 4:30pm. This made it difficult to book venues for our large group and we had to just make a decision, unsure whether we would be able to make our wineries or not. It also wasn’t clear how long it would take from being picked up in Queenstown to get to bikes and then from bikes to the first venue. This also made it really difficult to book our first venue and we ended up 30 minutes late. If you would like to do 3 wineries, I would recommend the 3/4 or full day tours. If you want half day, I would recommend just two wineries.
Had a really nice time on this bike ride, we loved seeing all the different wineries would recommend the e bikes it’s worth a bit extra
We had the best day ever. The bike ride through the mountains was great, and being able to stop at the wineries was very cool. I would highly recommend this adventure to everyone!!
The scenery was awesome The bikes were in very good condition, even if we all weren't! Mostly level gravel path with only a couple of uphill areas. The Church winery had very tasty Gamay.
A half-day ride by e-bike down into the Gibbston winery area was for us just the right amount of effort, as we neared the end of a very active New Zealand visit. First time on e-bikes, which was a revelation - also downstream, so the effort was limited - past the notorious bungy bridge, a stop to reinforce our lack of enthusiasm for that mad activity - and ended (for us) at the attractive Gibbston winery and a glass of pinot noir before our van ride back to Queenstown. Logistics organizing was smoothly handled - van ride to our meeting point, briefing on the bikes and routing, and meet-up management at the end. Others might reasonably choose either the full-day ride or other appealing and more demanding routes - definitely would endorse using this company.
The trail was beautiful! Would probably not call it easy though - I am a very active person and still found this more challenging than I would’ve thought. Probably would’ve gone for an ebike. The first winery was awesome! Second one was alright, the bus ride home was torture though. There were girls yelling at the top of their lungs and the bus driver did nothing to improve the situation.
Around the basin e-bike Queenstown half day winery trip Overall I felt the experience on this outing was Excellent, Enjoyable, exhilarating, and set in Beautiful scenery. We were fortunate to have good weather which was a big plus. There were a Variety of wineries to visit, including Brennans ( located about 1km or 2 beyond The Church, which was the pick up point at the end of this outing) and the Gibbston winery. I’d recommend both for pleasant wines and staff. The Bikes were in good condition except for one minor issue. My report on this issue was received with gratitude and an assurance that it would be looked at. A further important note about the bikes. There are a Variety of saddle types on the bikes, from the very thin bone hard type like on a regular road/racing bike, to wide well padded saddles and a range in between. Check that the saddle on your bike is ok for you before you depart and request a modification or alternative if necessary or desired. There was one small landslide partially blocking route, after wet weather in the previous few days. This was passable on foot and carrying or pushing one’s bike. It was in the process of being cleared when we passed. Three of the four of us really enjoyed the whole outing. One found the outing fairly scarey in terms of the proximity of the cycle path edge to a very high and steep valley side with falls a long way down to the river or valley floor very easy to imagine. In some places there was a fence at the side of the path, offering protection against a fall. However in most places where the falls are highest there is no edge protection. This is by far the biggest and most significant negative about this trip. While this issue didn’t impact on my enjoyment of the trip during the outing itself, I feel the fear is entirely justified. In places the path is a little narrow, and the edge is unprotected in these places. The height is very substantial. At bends, if you were travelling at speed (easy to imagine) the surface might not have the stability or grip to keep you on the path. I suggest that the path, in the interests of the safety of cyclists and any other users would benefit substantially from fencing along these edges to reduce the risk cyclists falling off the edge of the path. I don’t know if anyone has fallen off the paths here, and I hope no one has, of course. However it is not a stretch of the imagination to see it happening in my opinion, and I hope the issue is addressed, so as to make this ride safer, and keep the ride open for people to enjoy. I think this last point, making it safer and keeping it open is very important. This type of outdoor activity is very much part of the good side of things in being in NZ, a like me, visiting NZ on holiday.
The rain didn't hold us back, however, it is preferable to go on a sunny day. The bike company gave us a poncho which made a bit of a difference in the rain. First time on a E-bike and I thoroughly recommend them for going up hills. The rain didn't dampen our spirts and the Gibbston winery was amazing and a welcome relief. The scenery is quite impressive on the way. Be careful when you're booking with trip advisor as it stated there would be no refund for cancellation, so we took the punt and enjoyed the scenery and wineries, even if was a tad wet. The bike company were very accommodating in picking us up when we called it "a day".
Amazing day out. Bikes were awesome and the service was 10/10. We had one of the best days of our trip on this tour.
Loved the sceneries, although some parts is a bit scary for amateur riders like myself. The path could be a bit wider
Awesome trip. Well organized. First time we used e-bikes and they were excellent. Easy ride and we are in our 50s and had not ridden for years. Great scenery. Next time we would do the longer one as need more time if you want to do more than 3 x wine tastings. Staff professional and good humor. Thanks team.
This tour should come with a warning for anyone who suffers from vertigo. There are two suspended bridges to cross and most of the trail is along the edge of the gorge with a 100ft drop. The online tour description gives no warning of this. I suffer from extreme vertigo and ended up pushing the (heavy electric) bike for most of the tour. When we returned to the office to point out that a more helpful description of the surroundings would be a good idea for people with vertigo, we were met with a complete denial of responsibility or any sympathy, which seems consistent with other comments on this site. In fact, the manager’s reaction was “why should we be responsible for your vertigo” which frankly completely misses the point. On the plus side, the young guys driving the shuttle buses were great and the bike itself worked well (for the short time I used it!).
A great half day bike tour around the wineries. In retrospect we would have taken e bikes because there were a lot of inclines !!! And we might have managed more wineries Views were incredible
Really enjoyable afternoon on e bikes We visited 5 vineyards and had great fun Very much recommended
The bike trail is amazing with incredible views of the river. You also get to bike past people bungee jumping. Would recommend this trip to anyone who enjoys biking and wine. Or either one
It was absolutely stunning views and the weather was perfect. My only criticism is that the map was not easy to follow. Myself and other people experienced this on the trail. I was riding back and forth trying to figure out where I needed to e. I think it would of been better if a guide was with us. This would of enhanced the experience more and getting information about the wines is what I enjoy about the wineries but as there were so many people I did not get this experience. But overall I would still recommend to people but would caution them about booking a E bike.
Great experience. You'll get the bike and the breif at the start, then you're on your way. A lot of flexibility if you don't want to follow the recommended path. All of the vineyards we went to were amazing.
fantastic experience and amazing scenery - not too hard and even better in good weather! Vineyards are in close proximity and easy to find. Safe bike trail off the main road
A fabulous ride through spectacular country. Ran like clockwork. Very enjoyable afternoon. Would highly recommend. Thanks
Continuous Bike chain problems Uncomfortable seats Best place for lunch is Mt Rosa - probably should have been given more guidance re. Menus on offer.
What a great way to see the Gibbston Valley! Had an amazing day with friends & family exploring the valley & wineries. We hired e-bikes which definitely made it more enjoyable for the slightly less fit in our group aka me! Did tastings along the way. Highlights were Gibbston Valley Winery, Kinross & Mt Rosa. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a fun day out.
A fantastic workout in a gorgeous setting, with the treat of vino awaiting us at the finish line! Steve was informative on the drive out of town before setting us on our way. Really safe place to ride and see a stunning part of NZ. Hard to beat the wine at the end too.
Awesome afternoon visiting the wineries! Definitely recommend the E-bikes, veey relaxing and lots of fun.
Highlight of the trip! We had amazing weather so we really lucked out. fantastic wineries and bikes. I had no idea New Zealand wine was SO GOOD and Gibston Valley is SO GORGEOUS! it was a truly magical day! I recommend doing e-bikes and going to the furthest wineries first (mt Bella and kinross) and work your way back. The bike ride was amazing and trail easy to follow (separate from the road!). Drop off and pick up was easy and convenient! You went at your own pace and chose which wineries to go to which was great. I felt like the half day tour was the perfect amount of time. We had time to do 3 wineries and that was perfect. Fun fun!
The staff was great. The bikes were awesome. We had a beautiful day and the trail was fun to ride to all the winery’s.
We didn't go since it rained. Booking instructions were to call when checkin hotel. I did and was assured we could get a refund if it rained. To call that morning and decide then. But when I did, I was told no refund. Also they could offer no information on which wineries to visit or which required advanced bookings.
It’s such a beautiful trail. We had so much fun!! Our driver was great!! He was entertaining. I highly recommend this.
So much fun. Absolutely stunning scenery. Great wineries. Loved the e-bike! I want to buy one now. Highly recommend this tour.
Awesome - we now want to buy some e bikes. Next time we will do the full day as 1/2 day is not enough to fully enjoy the whole biking experience
The scenery was beautiful and the track had lots of variety with bridges and downhill rides. I loved it!
From the moment we walked through the door we got amazing friendly service and tips the whole way. We had an amazing time cruising along the trail on e-bikes. If you want a kick back day the e-bikes are a must!!
Not enough time. Managed 3 wineries but felt rushed. Arrived at the 4th just in time for our 4:30 pickup , however no flexibility to allow us to do our final tasting. The wineries close at 5pm, so seems strange to have a 4:30 pickup. The extra 30 mins would have made a huge difference and would have allowed us to squeeze in our last tasting. Do not book the half day and expect to get through the entire Gibston Valley. The E bikes however we highly recommend as a way to experience the wineries but you need more time than what this package offers. Always take the time to go to Chard Farm, great location, building, people and wine. A very personalised experience. I think
We have lived in Queenstown for 4 years, and today was the first time we biked the wineries in the Gibbston Valley, and we can't believe we have waited so long to do this! This is truly one of the best day trips to do while visiting Queenstown. Our driver, Hywel was lovely and made it super easy. We took his advice and made our first stop at Gibbston Valley for lunch, we then biked to Periguine for a tasting, followed by another tasting at Kinross. We didn't feel rushed at all and an extra bonus was that any wine we purchased was left at the winery for Hywel to pick up for us so we didn't have to carry it. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon. Jade, Jay, Saniya & Martina
Fantastic activity for all ages and fitness levels. We hired e bikes which were very easy to use and gave us the freedom to explore the wineries in the Gibbston valley without too much effort. We were able to fast at three wineries and enjoy lunch at one, next time we would probably do the 3/4 day trip so we could spend more time at each one. Thoroughly recommend doing this !
Such a great time! Thinking about doing it again! Favourite part was free wine :) wish I did the full day so I could of seen more vineyards. Such a fun way to do a wine tour! I loved it!!!
Amazing experience, well maintained bikes had a great day! Would recommend the e-bike and next time would do the 3/4 or full day to really explore on the bikes.
AMAZING!!! DO THIS TOUR Hywel Our driver was amazing, best part of my trip! The electric bikes were awesome and not biking on the road was a bonus
Called up and the lady was so lovely on the phone and we got in last minute. We got picked up in town which was amazing. Hamish was a great, safe, and informative driver. He helped us sort out our bikes and gave us tips on how to have the best day exploring the wineries. Such kind people and the most fun day! Thank you guys for being a great company that allows us to have such a great unique experience in the Gibbston Valley! 400 stars!
We had a fantastic half day cycling tour. Our tour guide was fantastic, friendly and very helpful with recommendations of wineries to visit. Although not all wineries were open due to the effects of covid there were so many in the region we still had plenty of options. The bikes were in excellent condition and we loved the service of being picked up and our tour guide was nice enough to drop us at the gondola after our day, he definitely went above and beyond with customer service! Would definitely recommend and we will be back again!
Great service and Hamish the driver was a top bloke. Good chat and great detail on the how to of the tour. Highly recommend!
Very friendly and professional. Pickup right on time, driver Steve was so informative and funny. Bikes fitted and off we went. We had the e bike so we could get to all the wineries. Loved them. still have to pedal and get the exercise but can look around and enjoy beautiful scenery. Everyone we interacted with was accommodating and readily shares stories. Great day. Highly recommend.
A Must Do In Queenstown Grab the E- Bikes as you get to visit a lot more of the wineries and extra time to enjoy them. This self guided tour is so much fun really enjoyed the scenery and wine tastings. You can purchase any wines along the way and the bus grabs them for you so you don't have to carry them on your bikes . You lose 1/2 hour getting to the beginning of the tour it would be better if the tour was an hour longer as I think the full day package would be too long .
Well organised and efficient. The journey starts in the town centre then drops at the bungy bridge. That was worth watching for a while. The cycle track is essentially downhill so pretty easy. One of our Party used an e-bike which was brilliant. We got to two vineyards and the tavern. All good places.
Well organised, friendly and funny staff, flexible to pick us up where we wanted (right at the end of Gibbston Valley). Explained what to do well and easy to deal with in general. Bikes were in good condition. We were lucky to be picked up later, 5:45 instead of 4:30, which gave us enough time to visit 5 wineries. Admittedly we are pretty picky with our wine tasting so didn’t take that long at each winery, but we did have a relaxed lunch platter at Gibbston Vallery winery as well. Might have felt a bit rushed with the regular pickup time.
We had a great trip, but we felt a bit hurried along the way. Wish it could've been an hour longer. Unfortunately, we were rushed and didn't have a chance to grab a leisurely experience at any of the spots.
This was one of the high lights for our trip, our guide was amazing, and the bikes were top quality. We really enjoyed ourselves and only wished we did the full day instead of the half! Bit on the pricey side, price doesn’t include any wines or foods however does include decent discounts at the various wineries/breweries! If you’re more into your beer/cider I would recommend skipping the wine/cheese and heading straight for the wood fired pizza at the Gibson Tavern then onto the Cargo Brewery to relax in the sun in New Zealand’s beautiful scenery!
Jason, our guide, drove 6 of us into arrowtown. He carefully set up our bikes, encouraged us to test them out then finally gave us bottles of water. We then took off. He met us several times along the way checking that we were all ok. We followed the arrow river across swing bridges meaning the scenery was awesome. We stopped off at the bungy bridge to watch the dare devils and use the conveniences. Our final leg was to the Gibbston Valley Winery. Jason was waiting for us and ensured we were looked after. The tour included wine tasting or a coffee. There was enough time left over to visit the cheesery for lunch before our departure. I would thoroughly recommend this ride to people of all abilities. After all you could opt for electric bikes to make it easier. Thank you Jason and around the basin bike tours.
