We were so well taken care of here. The staff's generosity made our memories of this trip even more wonderful. The room was spacious, exceptionally clean, and offered stunning views! Ariadna is always smiling and extremely helpful. Although we didn't catch the name of the staff member at the lounge bar, we accidentally captured her in a photo. While we were taking pictures, she noticed and paused, then proactively checked with us about any food allergies right after we finished shooting. It was such a thoughtful and caring gesture, and she also crafted the most gorgeous drinks! Though an issue with an overcooked steak at dinner wasn't fully resolved, I am certain it wasn't her fault (which I've mentioned in the restaurant review). Overall, her attentiveness and care for guests really stood out to me, making this trip truly unforgettable.

Extremely disappointing – not what you expect for NZD $400 a night I booked two twin rooms for one night at the Mövenpick Hotel Queenstown (formerly Mercure) through a third-party booking site. Unfortunately, the experience was so disappointing that I ended up cancelling the booking. The biggest issue was the condition of the bathrooms. The photos shown on the booking site appear to be of the upgraded rooms, which is certainly not what we were given. The bathrooms in our rooms were old, tired and, frankly, filthy. In one bathroom there was brown splatter on the wall above the toilet — I’ll leave it to the reader to guess what that might have been — and the grout was visibly covered in mould. For a hotel charging around NZD $400 per room, this is simply not an acceptable standard. If the bathroom being offered are substantially different from the rooms shown in the booking photos, that should be made very clear when booking. To add insult to injury, the hotel charges NZD $15 to park your own car in an outdoor parking area. Paying for parking is one thing, but being charged to self-park in an outside car park feels particularly hard to justify given the standard of the accommodation. To be fair, the staff were apologetic and did try to help. They attempted to find us upgraded rooms, but unfortunately only one upgraded room was available, which didn’t resolve the problem with having two rooms. Ultimately, I was so disgusted by the condition of the rooms that I cancelled the booking and left. I appreciate that the staff on the ground did their best to assist, but management really needs to address the disparity between the rooms advertised and the rooms actually provided, as well as the basic cleanliness and maintenance standards. At this price point, this is simply not good enough for a hotel carrying the Mövenpick name.
We stayed at Mercure Queenstown from 27 June to 2 July in a river-facing Queen Room, and overall, it was a wonderful experience that offered great value for money. The room and bathroom were both spotless, clean, and well maintained throughout our stay. Daily housekeeping ensured everything remained fresh and comfortable. A special mention to the bar staff—Adarsha, Maggie, Phon, and Margo—who were always friendly, polite, professional, and provided excellent service with a smile. Breakfast was served in the beautiful river-facing restaurant. The buffet offered a good variety of food, including a fair selection of vegetarian options, which we appreciated. Parking was conveniently located directly in front of the hotel for $15 per day. The town centre is around a 20-minute walk, making it easy to enjoy Queenstown while staying in a quieter location. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay. The hotel offers excellent value for money, and I would happily recommend Mercure Queenstown to anyone looking for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
The team went above and beyond to make our stay memorable and enjoyable. The room was spacious and the views were incredible. The lounge area was well-appointed and the facilities such as the sauna, pool and spa were outstanding. Located close to town, which was nice, although it would be a decent half-hour walk if we didn't have the car. Would definately recommend.
We stayed at the Mercure for 4 nights. The good: the hotel's location was excellent, away from the hustle and bustle of the CBD area, but still within walking distance. Views across the lake were also a highlight. The mattresses were very comfortable and there was adequate additional bedding. The room had both a split system and additional heating, however the insulation must have been pretty good because the room was warm enough without either turned on for extended periods. Water pressure in the shower was fantastic. Access to the sauna was also a nice perk. All hotel employees were friendly and approachable. The room was also relatively quiet with the exception of noise from the corridor. The not so good: our room (223) had a strong musty odour that didn't disappear even though we had the windows open for most of the day. Some of the glassware provided wasn't clean. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would happily stay at the Mercure again.
